Ann | 219 comments I hope it's okay to start a thread? If not, sorry mods! Feel free to delete!

I'm so thrilled that DWTS has decided to continue the two-week-before-an-ousting thing. It's really only fair to let all dancers dance BOTH a ballroom and a latin before getting the boot. So, phew! (plus, fun to see everyone dance twice;>)

I was pleased to see Evan Lysacek do well - I'd expected that he would, and while he does have a lot to improve, I definitely think he'll be a top runner (if he can handle latin). I was surprised (pleasantly) by Nicole Scherzinger - I wasn't expecting much at all, but there's definitely potential there! Not sure she was *quite* as good as the judges made out, but still, I think the best female thus far.
Oh, and I thought Brooke did a good job hosting, too. It's probably nice for the contestants to know she's gone through it and can relate :)

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll join you! I am not sure what I think of the people yet, but I am watching. However, I can't stand Brooke...I wish she wasn't hosting.

message 3: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Yeah! Another fan ;D

Too bad you're not a fan of Brooke... you have my sympathies then since she'll be there all season... :\ Actually, Tom used to annoy me, but lately I've warmed up to him :)

And yeah, it's always hard to predict anything the first few weeks. I usually end up being totally wrong, lol!

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Ann, Oh yes, It's fine to start threads!!!

I don't watch this show but I'd think Evan Lysacek would have a big advantage. He does "dance" when he skates, although not with a partner. An ice dancer or even pairs skater would have a huge advantage.

Don't all those figure skaters take loads of dance classes as part of their training?

I thought the previous female host was terrible so anything would be an improvement on her.

I didn't like Samantha (previous host) either. I wonder why she left - was it her idea or was she let go? Anyway, I don't think Kate Gosselin will last long or Buzz unless they have a ton of fans. I'm not really as interested in watching the show this time. They have quite a few people I have never heard of.

I admit, I wasn't a big Samantha-as-host fan. Nothing against her personally, but she always cut people off... :\

And yeah, I do think the ice skaters typically take dance classes. So, I do think they have a huge advantage (but, so do the pop singers in a way, too). I think athletes in general have the advantage of knowing how to train physically hard, and knowing what their bodies are capable of. Of athletes, figure skaters probably have the best advantage (though, they also come with a whole set of "habits/training" that they probably need to un-learn).
For me, it's about who is the best, but also who grows because it really isn't ever an even playing field... I mean, you have someone who's an 80 year old astronaut against a pop singer/dancer? Not really fair - but, if they both improve, then I'll cheer them both on :)

Watching Buzz was kind of painful but I admire his spunk in taking it on.

message 9: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Ditto, Lee! He was so adorable. I got the sense he HAD musicality, it just can't really manifest itself in his body anymore ;) But, I loved his spirit and wonder if he'll stay around a few week because of that.

I don't think he'll last long with the sympathy votes but it is inspiring to see him trying to compete at his age.

I hope that he is around for a while, I loved watching him.

message 12: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Too bad Kate didn't get the hook! She always has such a pus on - she doesn't have a poker face! She must have a lot of fans because she really can't dance!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

She is such a grouch! Come on, smile once!

message 14: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
She was terrible.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I missed last night. What happened? How horrible was Kate? Did my Bachelor dude do okay?

message 16: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Kate was bad again; Carrie Ann said her dance was odd and strange. I hope she gets the hook tonight. The Bachelor had a cute dance using Walk like an Egyptian for the song. Buzz was stiff and awful again. He's worse than Kate but I like him better.

message 17: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I watched some of it and I agree. Kate was and is simply terrible. She needs to go!

Jake did okay, I think his scores were 7,6,7.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Results are tonight, right? My cable keeps going out and the schedule hasn't updated.

message 19: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I think so? I missed the results show last week but it makes sense that it would be tonight.

message 20: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Yes, the results show is tonight - 8 pm Pacific time.

message 21: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Can't believe Kate didn't get the boot! She has 2 left feet and is a bitch on wheels! Maybe people are voting for her so she stays on and further humiliates herself :)

message 22: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Yes it must be something like that. People like watching train wrecks. At least Buzz had some dignity. Oh well, she will have to go sooner rather than later.

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I don't watch this show, but I've seen the 8 kids, and they're adorable. Maybe voters are feeling sorry for the kids.

message 24: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments I used to watch Kate plus 8 and I would say that Kate seems to be a very good mother albeit with lots of structure but also with lots of time for kids to be kids. I do think she is a good mother. BUT - it seems to me that if she is not in control she becomes very nervous. I know she is estranged from her parents and I wonder about her childhood. She will never be able to relax enough to be a good dancer and she feels totally out of her element and without control - hence her meltdown.

message 25: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I heard Kate has a new book out and will have a new show on TLC this summer. So no need to feel sorry for her if she gets booted off DWTS!

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
My goodness. I can't imagine living my life in such a public way.

Kathryn | 375 comments I love this show but haven't had a chance to watch this season yet. I'll be back to post soon--I hope to watch on Monday :-)

Hey Kathryn! I just wish that So You Think You Can Dance was on. I love that one even more!

message 29: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Ooooh, I love that one, too! I did various styles of dance for several years (still do ballet) so it's really exciting seeing dance featured on prime-time TV these days. Wish it had been when I was younger and more focused on dance!

message 30: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Oh my, I just saw this thread. I love Dancing with the Stars. I will say, however, that this season isn't grabbing me as much as the previous ones. Not sure why.

Joy wrote: "I heard Kate has a new book out and will have a new show on TLC this summer. So no need to feel sorry for her if she gets booted off DWTS!"

I'm having trouble stirring up the sympathy for her. She seems to do everything she can to be as public as possible. Her dancing....yikes!

message 32: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I didn't watch last night - how did everyone do?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Jake the Bachelor tripped, and Kate was hideous (but they gave her positive feedback because they recognize that she has no talent). I missed a few performances.

message 34: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I agree, Christine, that Kate was once again hideous. Jake has had his fifteen minutes of fame, tired of him. My favorite is Nicole Scherzinger and Derek. She is absolutely gorgeous and can dance, too. I think the judges are a little too tough on her, but that often seems the case for the better dancers. I like Niecy Nash and Louis together, seems an oddly good pairing. And, I, like everyone else am wondering if Erin Andres and Maksim really have a thing going on. As bad as Max is, he is still a hunk of a guy.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. Does anyone know if they have something going on or if they are just messing with us?

message 36: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments I haven't seen last night's performance yet but I watched a few online from previous weeks and I just can't stand Gossling!!! She seems like such an annoying and angry person and she can't dance at all--ugh! So it's completely un-fun watching her. Gosh, I sure hope Tony is getting paid handsomely for putting up with her!!!

I, too, wondered about Erin and Maks being an "item"

I think Evan and Nicole have the most potential right now, I think. I liked the Bachelor last week with the Egyptian thing but I think he has a lot of improving to do.

Ye-ah... when she was complaining about her life being in the news all the time, I just kept thinking that, if she didn't want that, why does she keep doing these reality shows? NOT that I'm excusing paparazzi or anything like that, but still...

message 38: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments My favs are still Nicole and Evan (and yes, the judges do often seem unreasonably hard on the better dancers). But, I thought both did a delightful job last night! Plus, I just adore Derek's choreography all the time, and Anna seems to be enjoying herself so much more this season (perhaps because she finally has a good dancer?) I do think Erin is getting better each week, and well, Maks is hilarious, so :) I wouldn't be surprised if they do become an item when the show is finished ;)

message 39: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I hope Kate gets the heave-ho tonight. She brings a lot of negative energy to the show I think.

Kathryn | 375 comments Joy wrote: "I hope Kate gets the heave-ho tonight. She brings a lot of negative energy to the show I think."

Me, too.

And, Ann, I totally agree--if she doesn't want the publicity, why is she doing all of this? :-/

message 41: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I wonder how much they get paid to do the show?

message 42: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I looked it up - The stars get paid $125,000 for the first 2 episodes and then $20,000 for each week thereafter. They also get an additional $50,000 bonus if they make it to week nine of the competition.
So it works out to a maximum of $245,000 after it is all said and done.
Kate is doing it for the money.

Wow, not bad.

message 44: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Grrr, Kate is still there. I was so hoping that she would go this week. I thought Adrian (spellings?)was so much better Kate. Well, it will be interesting to see if Kate can possibly get any worse, as I don't hold out much hope of her getting any better.

message 45: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I don't watch the show but you guys are making me really curious about Kate's dancing. Maybe Jon & Kate + 8 fans are voting.

message 46: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I can't believe Kate is still on the show! She can't dance and her personality can best be described as charm free! Oh well, there's always next week...

They have to be. Nothing else makes sense. It's like there is something wrong with the universe.

She didn't go???????
That is truly wrong.

Which one is Adrian? Is he the cute Australian actor?

Lisa, to answer your question, YES, she is simply awful. Stiff and stilted come to mind to describe her.

message 50: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) You guys are dangerous: I am trying to watch less tv, but I might have to watch next week just to see what all the fuss is about.
