Dancing with the Stars Chat
Oh and I meant to say that I'm sorry Lacey is not one of the professionals. I always like it when she is participating because she's not a total skinny, minny like the other female professionals. It's nice to see a woman with a little more meat on her bones dancing with such flair, skill and passion.
Lee,Yes! I thought that about Martina's dress, too :-( I felt especially bad for her since apparently this is the first dress she's worn in like twenty years. You'd think they could have done something better for her. But, she still had a surprising grace to her performance.
I agree, I wasn't quite sure why the heart-throb got such great scores. He could sure shake his bum-bum, but I thought he struggled a bit with the more technical aspects of the dance.
Still, though, I think everyone performed admirably and I am so excited about the season :-)
And I SO wanted Anna's dress! It was so pretty and sweet.
Yes, Anna's dress was sweet. Usually they are dressed with as little covering them as possible and that was a nice change!
I really felt bad for Martina because of her costume but I thought her dancing was fine. I hope she makes it past the first few rounds. She's an incredible athlete!

Lee, I, too, thought that Martina's dress could have been better and it wasn't flattering to her. I'm hoping she makes it a few rounds, too.
I have watched Dancing with the Stars for many seasons. I was watching Cheryl Burke last night and I thought why does she wear the same type of costume every time. The costume she had on last night did not fit her music, something like Peta wore would have been better. I also find it interesting that she does not seem to use the props like some. Mark and Maria for instance using the table, slot machine and the projections on the floor and walls really tied it together and made it visually pleasing.Has anyone read Cheryl Burke's book?
No, I haven't read her book...I enjoyed Monday night, but not as much as last week. There were a few disappointments (like Jaleel, I was so bored by the dance, though the soda fountain beginning was cute) and I felt so bad for Martina and Gladys! Glad that Gladys will be back. I love Tristan and she has such a good attitude. Katharine was great again! And Maria was better, too.
And, oh, the costume Martina wore this week was even worse than the one she wore last week. I felt so bad for her!!! She looked so pretty with her hair and make up and then the costume was just awful. I wish she had been able to go out on a good note, good dance, good costume, but at least she remained classy throughout!
Only two things could make me miss Dancing with the Stars, and both those reasons spent the night last night (my granddaughters). LOL! I was glad I got to watch Monday night, but I missed the results show. I guess Martina got the boot? I sure was hoping to see her get more of a chance. I agree, Kathryn, that this Monday night wasn't as good as the first Monday. Oh well, at least there are some really good dancers to look forward to.
Kathy wrote: "Only two things could make me miss Dancing with the Stars, and both those reasons spent the night last night (my granddaughters). LOL! I was glad I got to watch Monday night, but I missed the res..."Well, that's definitely worth missing DWTS for ;-)
I'm sorry Martina got the boot too! She seems like such a great person.
And Kathryn, I agree about her costume, again! They really let her down. Her upper body and core is pure muscle but they don't seem to know how to dress her to give her a waist. The poor woman.

I agree with the comments on Martina's costume - they really let her down. It's always hard to be the first one to go...
Has anyone else seen the dissing that Tony has lately given Kate Gossett, his former partner and nightmare on DWTS?
Lee wrote: "I saw a short clip of that, Kathy. I don't blame him, she looked like a real handful."Yep, like I said, a nightmare.
Lee wrote: "Oh, it's Hollywood alright! But if you enjoy dancing it's fun."Yep, Lee, it's the dancing that I love, too!
I like watching the practice sessions almost more than the performances. It's fun to see the learning process.

Was sad to see Sherri go. She wasn't my favorite, but she seemed to truly love the show and love dancing (unlike, say, Melissa Gilbert)
Kathryn, I loved Sherri's enthusiasm, too. Melissa Gilbert gets on my nerves (and I think she gets on Maks' nerves, too). Overall, I didn't think this week was a great one for anyone, but there is still lots of potential. I think I'm liking the opera singer best so far, but several others are close.
I can definitely say I'm not a fan of rock week. I just don't think the music lends itself to ballroom dancing.
I didn't watch the results show but if Sherri was the one to go home, that's really too bad. She has a wonderful personality and really gives it her all. She will definitely be missed!

I thought rock week was a bust, too.
Joy wrote: "I think Jaleel was better than Gavin and by the way - who is Gavin anyway? :)"I'd heard of him before and knew he was a singer/musician, but never really listened to his stuff. It was nice to see him get more confidence on the show, and loved the whole boat/beach set up for the dance, but it was not his best last night.
Jaleel is not my favorite but I agree he should have been saved over Gavin.
Surprised, but happy, to see Gladys hanging in there. Would have been such a shame if she wasn't part of MOTOWN night!
I think Katherine had the best dance--it was gorgeous! She is amazing.
Wondering when Melissa will go home? Neither her personality nor her dancing is improving enough, IMO :-/
I think Katherine is my favorite right now, as far as dancing ability goes. I'm also glad that Gladys is still there, too, but I fear she won't last much longer.
Way to go Donald and Pita last night. Us Packer fans are so proud of you Donald Diver
I just watched the ballerina that was born in Sierra Leone, and her story is absolutely amazing. Her adoptive parents are to be highly commended for their love and generosity to reaching out to those children in need. Makela (spelling?) is a beautiful soul and dancer. Made the show exceptional tonight!

I, too, was sorry to see Gladys go. I loved seeing her (and Tristan!) on the show. They were such a class act and a couple of such a kind and bright spirits on the show. Honestly, her dancing wasn't quite up to the level of the others and I worried how she would cope with two dances a week, but I am glad she made it as far as she did (and to Motown week!) and will miss them!!! Hope she comes back to sing, and that we'll see Tristan in some of the pro dances.
I'm surprised Jaleel was the next to go - is Melissa Gilbert really better than him? Just sayin'...Here is an article about it -

I wonder who is voting for Melissa? Or maybe they are voting for Maks!? ;-> In any case, I, too, think she should have gone home. Of those in the dance-off, I am glad Roshon stayed. He seems to be improving whereas Jaleel seems to have reached his limit. My favorites are Maria and Katherine -- I thought Maria's dance was especially good this week. I loved Classical Night! :-)
Kathryn wrote: "I wonder who is voting for Melissa? Or maybe they are voting for Maks!? ;-> In any case, I, too, think she should have gone home. Of those in the dance-off, I am glad Roshon stayed. He seems to..."Yeah, Maria was good...
I thought Classical Night went very well indeed. I think that Melissa might be the next to go. I thought the judges' comments were rather harsh to her, though. In fact, sometimes it perplexes me how they are so hard on certain people and let others get by. I know it happens every season, but it still irritates me. Maria and Derek were amazing! I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't think Catherine's dance was that great. She was, of course, full of grace and beauty, but I didn't think it showed her dancing abilities off much.
Kathy wrote: "In fact, sometimes it perplexes me how they are so hard on certain people and let others get by. I know it happens every season, but it still irritates me."Same here!
Katherine's dance wasn't my favorite either, Kathy. I didn't really like the toga theme and I felt the dance could have suited the music a bit better. But, she is still amazing! ;-)
Lee wrote: "When Maggie saw Katherine and Mark dancing she said, "That guy should have his shirt on!""Haha ;-) Cute.
Lee wrote: "I thought it was pretty funny too. I didn't really want to watch him with his shirt off either."Me, either, actually. And those costumes were not my cup of tea! Too distracting from the dance. Her hair, OMG!!!
I agree. Her costume was way over the top and definitely distracting. I almost wish Katherine had been paired with someone else. I think she could have had better chemistry with a different partner.
Lee wrote: "I agree. Her costume was way over the top and definitely distracting. I almost wish Katherine had been paired with someone else. I think she could have had better chemistry with a different part..."Me, too. She is such a sweetheart, but I just don't think she and Mark really have good chemistry. Too, I like some of Mark's choreography and he seems like a nice guy, but I think he way over-dances sometimes and it doesn't make his partners look as good. I wish she had been paired with someone like Derek or Tristan.
He does seem like a nice guy and a very hard worker but I think he almost tries too hard. It seems like at times his choreography is overworked or something.
Lee wrote: "He does seem like a nice guy and a very hard worker but I think he almost tries too hard. It seems like at times his choreography is overworked or something."Frankly, I think he is the least attractive of the male dancers.

Jaleel was a definite surprise and the opera singer is adorable! Did anyone else think that Martina's dress made her look like a very strange tube with no waist? She is in great shape and I thought the costume department really, really let her down.
Gladys has the most amazing energy and attitude, a real joy to watch.
Gosh, there were so many stand out performances!
