Laura,
My daughter and I also read that book together. Then we revisited it on CD a year or two later on a road trip. Isn't Igraine a great role model? We have also enjoyed sharing the Harry Potter books and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Yes, she really is! We are very much enjoying this book.

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments I just added The Golden Compass to my audio pile. I already read it, but after reading posts in the Extras! > Wizards Vs. Superheroes Vs. Vampires thread. I am curious. Still waiting on The Book Thief in audio. Wish me luck since these will be my first audio books! :-)

Heidi Good luck Laura :)

Becca | 1608 comments I just read Dragon Strike and for all the dragon lovers out there, I recommend the entire series.

As for Percy and friends, the third book has been my least favorite of the series so far except for the new gods that were introduced (I always wanted to be a huntress of Artemis), but I really enjoyed the fourth. I'll be reading the fifth soon.

Becca | 1608 comments I just re-read Seaward for like the fifth time. Really one of my favorite short reads of all time and I really wish Susan Cooper would write a sequel. The end makes me cry every time because I don't get to see what happens to West and Caly after they make their choice. I LOVE these characters!

The story is a follow-up to a previous book --Streams of Babel-- that I haven't read, but which I am definitely going to track down. It's principally about 4 teenagers who are recovering from a poisoning that took place in the previous book where terrorists dumped toxic bio-hazards into their small town's water supply. Most of these teens lost parents and friends, and they are still barely surviving on a pharmaceutical cocktail of meds that have some odd side effects. They are brought to a restored house to recover with the assurance that they are out of danger from the terrorists. 'Dogs don't return to their vomit', they are told. BUT unfortunately that doesn't turn out to be the case as they just happen to have been settled near the next target site.

Becca | 1608 comments I just read Poison Study taking the advice from others and reading it before I read Graceling. I LOVED it. What a great story. Kind of dark at times, and a bit predictable, but so darn entertaining. I really couldn't put it down.

message 110: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I really did like it a lot. Certainly not the most original book, but extremely entertaining.

Good to hear! I loved all the study books but Posion Study was the best for sure!

☼Bookish in Virginia☼ (ren_t) You guys are bad influences. I've added it to the stack.

Have you read "Soulless"?

It's a campy, steampunk sort of romp. I loved it.

message 113: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ohhh I am so excited to pick up Poison Study at the library tomorrow now!

message 114: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I just finished The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Mary Russell, #1) by Laurie R. King and recommend it for mystery lovers.

message 115: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I just requested it at the library Heidi!

message 116: by Heidi (new)

Heidi It was excellent - a near 5 star book!

message 117: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Whoever has it from my library better return it soon! On second thought, maybe they should take their time. Stinky tbr pile.

message 118: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep - all my hold books came in at once and now I have 9 books at home to read! Now my problem is what order to read them in :)

message 119: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I'm glad that I have people that have the same weakness as me!

Oh and Blomkis (I know I spelled that wrong) doesn't even have to try! The man is a chick magnet.

I know! It is ridiculous (and likely the authors wish for his own life), but the silly girl in me wants him to be with Lisbeth.

message 121: by Ann (new)

Ann I just finished Poison Study, which I loved and definitely recommend, and City of Bones, which left me disappointed.

Heidi Ann wrote: "I just finished Poison Study, which I loved and definitely recommend, and City of Bones, which left me disappointed."

Well Ann, since you disliked City of Bones (me too) I am totally trusting your judgement on Poison Study. I got it from the library yesterday and am now even more excited to start it.

message 123: by Susan (new)

Susan I just finished Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor and it was lame.....dont waste your time.

message 124: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Hedi start it! It's really good! When I thought of Valek, all I could imagine was Tom Cruise, because I read it around the same time I was watching trailers for that assassin movie he was in. I can't remember what the name of it was.

message 125: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Susan wrote: "I just finished Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor and it was lame.....dont waste your time."

Good to know! I read the description after you said you were reading it, but it seemed it could be either way.

Heidi Peep wrote: "Hedi start it! It's really good! When I thought of Valek, all I could imagine was Tom Cruise, because I read it around the same time I was watching trailers for that assassin movie he was in. I can..."

Valkyrie Peep! By the way, the movie was ok, but the two hour show on the History channel about all the plots to kill Hilter was way better. Anyhoo, I have to finish Hunger first (before Poison Study) and it nearly 600 pages!

message 127: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) That's the one Heidi! I always have a mental picture of a character, sometimes a real person, sometimes not. I could not stop my mind from picturing Tom Cruise when I read it! Now, I wonder if you will too. Oh, and thanks for the History Channel show. I'll keep an eye out for it.

600 pages? Is it worth it? Or is it just filler?

Teresa (teresainohio) Susan wrote: "I just finished Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor and it was lame.....dont waste your time."

I agree I enjoyed one story the others were beyond lame.

that was my take on the book too.

message 130: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep - I will let you know in about 450 pages!

message 131: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I loved Valek from the start! And I pictured someone a bit younger than good ol' Tom. Maybe a younger version of him with better teeth.

message 132: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Becca! Hahahahaha! Valkyrie/Valek, same demeanor, both looked/sounded hardcore assassin, I couldn't help it!

message 133: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments lol, I didn't really like Valkyrie, so it definitely wasn't in my mind when I was reading it. Plus I don't think Tom is very sexy and the more I read about Valek, the sexier he became. I think I may have to mention him on the "who are you infatuated with" thread. He's hot.

message 134: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments P.S. I finished The Book Thief. It was a good enough story. I think it was more of a story to reflect on than to get into. I appreciate it more now that it's over, but I struggled to get through it. It's definitely worth reading though. Powerful lessons to be taught in it. I almost hope the author writes another story with Death narrating. It was an extremely interesting concept that I'd like to see expanded.

message 135: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Glad you stuck with it Becca! Sorry if you weren't blown away, but we all can't have the same reactions or that would be boring. p.s. I am listening to the author's first book on audio (I am the messenger) and really liking it so far, but it way different (and funnier) than the Book Thief.

message 136: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) How far into are you Heidi? Is he "working" yet?

message 137: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am listening to it on audio and the narrator rocks! I love him. Anyway, I am on disk 5 out of 7, so well over half done.

message 138: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments I'm so happy to see that a bunch of you have read and enjoyed Poison Study! I'll occassionally encounter a book that I obsessively love, and this one was one of them.

And Becca, I'm going to have to agree with you on Valek - definitely hot.

message 139: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ok ok I will read Poison Study next! Geez the peer pressure on here is out of control (jk:) I have 10 books at home to read from the library and just got notified another hold came in (the first BDB book). I can NOT handle looking at them all. I feel like they are mocking me, saying "Come on Heidi, skip work this week. Just stay here and read us". I need help!

message 140: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I always fantasize about doing that. But in my fantasy my bf is away and my fridge is stocked with all my favorite food already prepared and I have enough wine to last the week. God I am disturbed!

message 141: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jaimie that sounds even better - I need to aim higher on my fantasy thoughts!

message 142: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I've thought about asking for it for my birthday but decided that it might seem a tad selfish.

message 143: by Heidi (new)

Heidi But, when else can you be selfish and get away with it?

message 144: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments I am glad I am not the only one who thinks of skipping work in order to read! ;-)

message 145: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments This is true.

message 146: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments OMG, you all make me laugh hysterically. It would be nice to take a break from life and just read, but I don't think my son and hubby would be down with that. My house already suffers enough from my blatant neglect.

message 147: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Dare to dream Becca. Dare to dream.

message 148: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I just read The Warrior Heir and I would recommend it. I liked the story a lot, although I saw both of the big twists coming. I wish I would just read a book for once without analyzing it, then I might be surprised. Anyway, good book, good characters, and I'm moving the next one up my list.

I asked my boss since I am training this week and just standing around, can I read while I do it, he said no : (

message 150: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments The funny thing is I can read at work and do but when I get interupted to answer the phone I get super annoyed.
