Kate | 8205 comments Anyone see the last Chronicles of Narnia movie?

message 902: by AnQi (new)

AnQi (anqiyu) | 57 comments Nope I haven't. The special effects and stuff like that look pretty cool in this one though. :)

I'm currently reading Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. It was really cool, since I met the author a few weeks ago, and the whole time people were asking him questions I was like "Huh? What happened?" I finally picked it up on Wednesday. I've finished Legend (Drenai Tales, #1) and Belle: A Retelling of "Beauty and the Beast". After finishing Ship Breaker I think I'll start either Eragon or The Icebound Land.

yes and omg is caspian soo ridiculously attractive or what?!??!??!?!

message 904: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Maybe. Wasn't really focused on that. I was surprised at how close it was to the book, even with the humongous addition that they added to the story.

message 905: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I just realized that this should probably be in the "movies" section. Ooops.

message 906: by AnQi (new)

AnQi (anqiyu) | 57 comments That's sounds really interesting. I'll have to add that to my to-read books.

I'm currently reading The Icebound Land by John Flanagan. I finished Ship Breaker, and I've dropped Eragon because I've already read it and I have tons of other books I need to get to. I want to read Flipped, Beastly, Oath Breaker, or The Book Thief next.

I'm almost half way through Reckless by Cornelia Funke

message 908: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments What do you think?

message 909: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Honestly-I hate it.
Well, hate is a strong word. I am really, really not enjoying it. Ive got a page worth of notes-me venting my frustration on a poor piece of paper-that I will use in my coming review.

message 910: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I feel bad for the paper, but I know what you mean. I didn't hate it, but it just wasn't up to her level, and felt too much like the Inkworld.

message 911: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Yes! Thats what I'm thinking. Its like a much less detailed, cheap copy of the Inkworld.
Also, there is absolutely no chemistry between Will, Jacob or Clara. I couldnt care less about them. It feels like a cheap movie, with an awful script, and terrible wooden acting.

However, the idea behind it is pretty cool-looking for objects from fairy tales etc...

message 912: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I agree wholeheartedly. So much potential gone to waste...AND it's the first in a series. Maybe the next ones will be better?

The annoying thing is, my two favorite books by her, Dragon Rider and the Thief Lord, are the only two that are not part of a series. I know that because of how they ended, sequels aren't really an option, but I would love to see more of any of the characters from them.

Jordyn (golden_reason) I just started the hunger games! Finally... Now I can see what all the fuss is about( no effence )

message 914: by Diana (new)

Diana I started reading Cat Among the Pigeons by Agatha Christie and so far it's really good.

Now I feel as if I shouldn't read Reckless- but of course, I'll try it, just to see what it was like...

I loved Dragon Rider and Thief Lord! Dragon Rider was actually the first book I've read of Cornelia Funke. I love that her writing has a sense of magical and fantasy without making it too dark like most fantasy books today.

message 916: by AnQi (new)

AnQi (anqiyu) | 57 comments I'm currently reading The Icebound Land by John Flanagan. I got bored of Ranger's Apprentice a long time ago but at the urging of a friend I picked it up again. :) After this I think I want to read Flipped, Beastly, What My Mother Doesn't Know, or whatever else is next on my to-read list. :)

message 917: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I was wary of reading Reckless–but I felt like I had an obligation to read it. I'm hoping that the rest of the series will be better, as she distances herself from the Inkworld.

I agree with what you mean about them not being too dark, and I also like the fact that they exist in our world without being too ridiculous. Most real-world-fantasy, with the exception of Harry Potter, which almost doesn't count, doesn't feel realistic. Either magic is widely accepted or it's too much of a novelty, but not in her books.

message 934: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I just finished Torment. Omg. I have wonderful thoughts about it......
*SPOLIER(kinda)*

I think Luce was bad angel.

*SPOILER OVER*

Does anybody agree?? I have more thoughts, but that's the main one.

message 935: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments I am reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, and I feel like I am discovering uncharted islands or something.

Not only do I have three bookmarks going at all times, but also tucked inside the from I have difficult and obscure vocab used and a personal essay about Wallace's childhood (which really does have a lot to do with the book). Never had so much fun with a book before.

message 936: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading The Blue Sword. (again) AWESOME BOOK!

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments BLUES SWORD IS AWESOME!

I just finished Airman (again) and now I'm reading River Secrets.

message 938: by AnQi (last edited Jan 14, 2011 08:02PM) (new)

AnQi (anqiyu) | 57 comments I don't know. But I do know that Torment was an excellent novel, and it was a book improvement from Fallen.

I would recommend Cate of the Lost Colony which is a beautiful historical fiction novel about the mystery of Roanoke Island.

message 939: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I love Fallen and Torment. Passion, here I come! And then Rapture >.<
