SPRING/SUMMER 2010: Leaderboard & Completed Tasks (Updated 8/19)
Just finished 15.9 (Young Authors). I read The Outsiders by SE Hinton. I read it in high school but I really liked it alot more this time around. I cannot believe that the author was only 15/16 when she wrote it. It had great characters who were definitely multi-dimensional and, I don't know, it just didn't feel like someone so young wrote it.

I have read two young adult books on my list: Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech for 15.7, the family matters challenge, and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry for 5.7, flowers on the cover. I really enjoyed all of the layers the authors use, and subtle questions about modern society they each provoke. I have also finished West with the Night by Beryl Markham for 10.4, the directionality challenge.

I replaced task 15.3, in the year you were born, with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. I cannot believe I waited so long to read it, such a great novel. It reminded me a lot of Ishmael and Haroun and the Sea of Stories, with their view on humanism and their incorporation of story telling. I want to reread Hichhiker's and contemplate all of the metaphors Adams fit into such a short amount of space.Tasks Completed: 14
