The books are better. I do love medical thrillers (just wrote one myself) but prefer less verbiage & faster pace. In "The Surgeon," the author's making the point that the female surgeon is a...surgeon. And proceeds to give pages & pages of that particular surgery that sound out of a textbook. Ok, we get it, she's a surgeon, move on please?

I have never watched the show for that reason. I've seen several posters, and to me it looks like a cheap attempt at making the books somehow more sexual (Maura Isles posing on a scalpel? really?) I think it would ruin the characters for me, so I've always steered clear.

I've been reading her books for a long time and have been invested in the Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles characters since that series started. I tried to watch the show and it wasn't enjoyable for me because they aren't my characters. I could deal with minor changes, but the show writers have changed the very essence of the characters.

I'm very glad that you have confirmed my suspicions because I was considering watching the series just to see if it was really like that, or I was being a little too judgmental. From what you - and others - have said I don't think I'll even bother.

If you like the show then I suppose it's not much to sacrifice but I think that I would dislike it if their pictures and voices took over the beauty of Gerritsen's words.

Well, I've joined this group for a while now, but it's actually the first time I'm introducing myself here. I'm Clarina, and I've been reading Tess Gerritsen's books for a few years now, but I've only noticed and joined this group a few months ago. It's so nice to have place where Tess Gerritsen fans can chat together (although I haven't really done that much yet). Also, THE ACTUAL TESS GERRITSEN IS HERE!!!
OK, let me calm down...Alright. Before, my favourite book out of the ones I'd read so far was "Harvest". Then, not long ago, I read "The Killing Place/Ice Cold" and that became my favourite book. My favourite book now is "The Bone Garden", which I have just finished reading a few minutes ago. I really like how it travels between the past and the present and I really like how the past is described. I've still got "Bloodstream", "Gravity", and "Girl Missing" to read, and I also can't wait to read the new book! I might also read Tess's romance novels, although I haven't read many romance novels before.

Welcome to the group Clarina! I agree The Bone Garden is very good, but it's hard to pick a favorite so I chose my favorite Rizzoli & Isles novel - The Keepsake and my favorite Stand Alone - The Bone Garden. I'm not that interested in the Romantic Suspense novels, but always willing to give a Tess Gerritsen novel a try :-) We'll have to see if we can convince Tess to stop back in now that we have more members - I think she keeps forgetting her passwords and that's part of why she hasn't been back.

Dustin, the end part of your comment really fits in with your profile picture! I think the picture is very cute!

well we choose a group read every other month so you'll have plenty of opportunities to read 'em all :-) btw, are you counting the Romantic Suspense novels?

Yeah, I don't blame you :-) Stick with the stand-alone medical thrillers and the Rizzoli & Isles series - you won't be disappointed with them, but can't say the same about the Romantic Suspense books. Girl Missing though, is one you might want to try it was a bridge from the Romantic Suspense to her Medical Thrillers and I thought it was pretty good - lighter on the Romance aspect that the earlier ones :-)

Oh, you've just reminded me to reserve that book at the library! I was already planning to read it next, but the libraries that have this book are really far away.

:-) Welcome to the group Laura. Glad you decided to stop in and stay a while. You know Patricia Cornwell has a new book too called Bone Red. I haven't read it yet just put a hold on it at the library yesterday.

Sounds like you're on a roll. By now you may already be reading The Silent Girl :-)

Looks like a great group. I've read Tess for years. I just finished writing my own medical thriller and it's being considered at the Jane Rotrosen Agency. Starting the sequel now and in the process of writing a third.
Tess is my favorite author in this genre.
I have a journalism degree and write news features.
I recently moved to MS, and have two daughters in college.

Hi Brenda, thanks for asking. The working title is The Sacred Oath. I'm not sure of the publication because I have not heard back from the agent yet.

Nice to meet you too. From your profile you sound like a caring person to work with the kids. Thank you!
