I really liked the finale. Makes me wonder what is gonna happen next season. Some people didn't like the way it ended with that little twist but I was okay with it - just curious about what's in store :-)

I recently wrote a letter to Dean Koontz and suggested he watch Fringe since he was such a big fan of the X-files mentioning it in his books and everything. Here was his response (with the words he underlined):

"Haven't watched Fringe, but then I've virtually no TV time these days."

message 669: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) He is quite prolific, it's not hard to imagine him busy with work all the time.

I was really pissed about the spoiler about a beloved character dying. That scene with Olivia in the future was bullshit, a cheat. Other shows do that crap and that's why I hate them. I expect more from Fringe. It was still a good episode, they didn't need to resort to cheap tricks to get their audience to watch it.

That's too bad, as his writing might benefit from the inspiration he could receive from certain shows, such as Fringe. By the Light of the Moon and Midnight sort of read like Fringe episodes.

Yeah. I guess I'd have to agree. It was a good episode, but nobody actually ended up dying. What did you think about (view spoiler)

I recently watched the 2 episode finale of Supernatural. I really got a kick out of the role of H.P. Lovecraft in the story and that comment something to the effect that Lovecraft wrote real literature just like Dickens and Dean R. Koontz :-)

Yes, I enjoyed that too, even though it was obvious they were taking a jab at Koontz.

I tried watching Twin Peaks last week by renting it from Netflix, but couldn't make it. I found it very boring and quit after the first episode. Afterward, I watched the movie that was released after the series was canceled, Fire Walk with Me, which fills in all the wholes and reveals the killer.

Did you like that movie even though you didn't finish the TV series? I may have to look for that after I watch the series. I'm saddened to hear that you couldn't finish the show and my excitement has been taken down a notch :-( Thanks a lot Jason!

message 681: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Sorry, Dustin, but I felt the same way and quit after the first episode also.

Jason, same question as Dustin regarding the movie. Also, can it be watched as a standalone, being I didn't watch the series?

Consider it payback for your stated reaction to the announcement of my gift from Koontz. :-P No, I didn't like the movie either.

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Jackie wrote: "...Jason, same question as Dustin regarding the movie. Also, can it be watched as a standalone, being I didn't watch the series?"

The movie was very bizarre--much more in line with Lynch's usual style than the first episode. It mostly made sense without having seen the series beyond the first episode, but isn't worth bothering with, in my opinion.

message 684: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) OK then, I trust your judgement.

Now what's this about a gift from Koontz? I've obviously missed something.

Jackie (thelastwolf) Going there now, TY

message 687: by Christine (new)

Christine Hey Dustin, I just wanted you to know that I loved Twin Peaks. When it came out on TV it was so different from anything else that was being broadcast. Its definitely quirky like only David Lynch can be. I am not sure I would still like it if I watched it today but it was very memorable. My son, who lives in Seattle, just went and visited all the places where it was filmed after watching all the episodes of the show. He loved the show and had a blast on his trip.

message 688: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) I didn't watch TV back then but so many people raved about it. I think if I watched it when it aired, I might have liked it. I've gotten used to faster paced shows, it makes it hard to go back.

message 689: by Christine (new)

Christine What was provocative back then, probably wouldn't be now. I think that is why people who watch Twin Peaks now would find it boring. We have access to so much more on TV whether its your basic cable or you have the premium movie channels. You get a lot more TV, good and bad.

message 690: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) That's true too. We have so much to choose from, the competition is fierce.

message 691: by Christine (new)

Christine I just wish we had more shows like Fringe, X-Files, Twin Peaks, etc., that showed imagination instead of these "reality" shows. To me those are boring and what why are they called reality shows. Tell me what's real about them?

message 692: by Jackie (last edited Sep 02, 2011 08:16PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Nothing, most of them are scripted too. The only difference I see is in how much the networks have to spend on them. I don't see why so many people watch them and it's ruined the quality of our television programming.

message 693: by Jaice (new)

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Christine wrote: "...Tell me what's real about them?"

The fact that they're boring and moronic is real (with the exception of The Amazing Race, which teaches a lot about geography and many global cultures). ;-)

Good to hear. Someone had recommended it to me since I like The X-Files. I'm not familiar with David Lynch's work, but when "quirky" "strange" and "different" are used to describe Twin Peaks, I figure it must be right up my alley :-)
