Congratulations for your little girl, Sara!!! BTW, I couldn't agree more with your previous post (message 96) about Eve and Roarke's committed relationship; the situation with Stephanie Plum, Ranger and Morelli had really pissed me of when I was still reading the series...

I really don't know how you hung in there so long, Mary. I don't like love triangles and that series is up to 19 books with it unresolved. I bailed after the first book.
I read the first 4, decided it couldn't possibly get any better (especially after I called my best friend and she said that it actually turned into a love triangle. GAG ME!), and so I pretend that's the end of the series. I remember Book 4 being REALLY good! Yay for Morelli!
I couldn't even finish the first book, because I found out about the love triangle(I'm a certified spoiler-addict!!!) and didn't want to waste my time...Sara, I've also done my fair share of pretend-its-the-end-of-the-series too!!!
Haha! For the first 4 books, Ranger is just some random periphery guy, without any substance, so it's easy to just ignore him and pretend it's all about Stephanie and Morelli! ;) And Book 4 ends really well, in a way that you can really convince yourself it's the end of the series! Haha! The whole idea of the love triangle pisses me off. Love triangles are for teenagers. But with two grown men? What kind of insecure men would those guys have to be to allow themselves to be strung along by such an indecisive woman? And it's not like they don't know about each other... I mean, MAYBE if each book took place in a single day, I could see her not choosing for 19 days, but I'm assuming each one covers at least a week or so. That's at least 5 months! That's just ridiculous. No grown man worth having is gonna put up with that crap! I'm kind of offended for men everywhere.
I just finished putting the final touches on an editorial I wrote on this topic. It will appear on my blog on Monday. Would love for you to drop by and share this point of view!

We just started running editorials every Monday in addition to book reviews and author interviews/guest posts.

Girls , I really regret it now, but I've read the first nine books of the series!!! I know that I should have just given up on them from the very first book, but I just kept on going because they were recommended to me by a very trustworthy reader! I still can't understand why she would ever insist on me reading them...
Oh, Mary! Nine books? This is a series where you should know by the end of the second book whether you're going to like it or not. STOP!!
I agree with Sara, time is too precious and reading should bring pleasure. Go, read something you will enjoy.

I know, I know! That's what I did! I returned the books back to my friend and now I'm reading books only when I double-check them with the reviews on GR. And needless to say I haven't read anything else of the same author and I don't think that I will ever do!
About the Stephanie Plum series of course!!!!! I would never ever talk like that about the In Death series or Nora Roberts, I love both!
I read 2 books of the Stephanie plum series and was bored with it! Couldn't bring myself to pick up more in that series when there are so many other great authors to spend my free time on.
Whew! I thought you were talking about Eve and Roarke:) Yeah, I read one book and it wasn't my kind of series. Lots of people like the series because it's funny and quirky. I like mysteries to be grittier and edgier so it didn't appeal to me. Plus, can't stand a love triangle.
Yeah with this series(Stephanie Plum series) I found out the same thing about myshelf! I can't stand love triangles either...
Yeah I think the in death series just spoils anyone to stephanie plum anyways... In death is funny and quirky but still adds the mystery and suspense a crime novel should!!
Vera wrote: "Yeah I think the in death series just spoils anyone to stephanie plum anyways... I was like, "Book 9 (Loyalty) was AMAZING!!! I can't believe she didn't like it!)
Well, after going back to see which is book 9, I can tell you that there is no way I would say something like this about it, or any other book of the In Death series for that matter! And she we were talking about the Stephanie Plum series, I wouldn't change the topic so abruptly... But anyway I'm glad we've sold this brief misunderstaning. So, we agree that none of us liked Stephanie Plum series andd we all love the In Death.

The thing is besides the stupid triangle the characters are all stupid. It is so unrealistic. I cannot relate to any of the characters.
I love the indeath characters. They are realistic and lovable. Even Mick in Betrayal. I got really mad at him, but in the end I really loved him.
Question about what book a character appears in: I'm re-reading the series and remember a boy in one of the books named Kevin ... can't remember if he's an orphan to begin with or his parents/guardians are killed but he is adopted at the end ... and can NOT remember the name of the book he appears in.Anyone recall?
He was found by Eve and Roarke beaten by his mother when they found Jennie dead in Vengeance in Death
And don't forget Dopey, Kevin's cat. I think it spoke volumes when he was willing to walk away from his mom, but Dopey had to come too.
Which is good! For someone who is not a 'kid person' I've always enjoyed Eve's interactions with children in this series ... it's managed so very well. Kevin was always one of my favorites and it was bugging me that I couldn't remember which book he was in.The other 'boy character' I liked (and of course can't remember his name at the moment) was the boy that sold Eve mufflers for Christmas presents as he was selling out of a suitcase on the street and took her to meet his grandmother who was raising him.
Jonetta wrote: "Tiko:)"Right, Tiko.
I always enjoy when characters from previous books appear, even briefly, in later books. Makes it feel more like the characters in the books are living realistic lives and the reader is more involved with the series.
I think its great how much I've learned about the criminal mind, the law process and the other eclectic things that pop up. Like today, with this *$%#@ who has sent letters with ricin in the mail. I know what that is thanks to a nasty little girl who slipped some in a hot chocolate.
Lol. This is true. I have been in law enforcement for 25 years and I have learned a bunch of stuff I didn't know.
That's right! I get so caught up in the Magdelana storyline I sometimes forget about the little bad seed.
I didn't know that Dawn. If its not too personal, do you think the bullpen is accurately represented?
Jonetta, I forget about Maggie! Is she Eve says "You were one of many." And then taps her wedding band and says something like "I'm the only"?
Not here in California. While there is an area for detectives it is very different also, I don't know a single lieutenant who has a caseload or is in the field.
Hi everyone I have a question. which book is it that Eve has her badges taken from her and she gets suspended?
