Okay, I'm really stressing out listening to Vengeance in Death and just need someone to tell me it gets better. (Lie to me if you have to.....)

SPOILERS:

I'm NOT liking Summerset right now - does he EVER respect Eve?

And I wish Eve didn't have to deal with yet another old flame of Roarke's; one that he actually LOVED this time. I get that he has a past with numerous women, (if I'm not mistaken, at least 3 of the first 4 books mention a connection between him and another woman - be it sexual, more-than-friendship or a casual hook up) but I much prefer Eve's angst to come from her cases where the victims or villians are not women from Roarke's previous relationships. I remind myself that he hasn't loved anyone like he loves Eve.

Beeg - I think this whole incident is a defining moment for Eve & Roarke's relationship...& maybe a turning point. Keep reading - I think you'll enjoy the ending.

Roarke's women irritate me too. Also the way he just sort of laughs it off. I felt it was rather mean. It doesn't seem to bother Eve though and it doesn't reflect their relationship at all. I'm actually quite relieved to report the last couple of books I've read, I didn't have to sit through Eve hearing about how good Roarke is in bed from a wit/acquaintence. So that eases off some also.

Summerset must be doing something right if you love him by wherever you are in the series. Anything must be better than his present complete disdain for Eve. Ms Robb's portrayal of him is just brilliant. She's such a maestro with words. And Susan Erickson - she just gets better and better with each book.

Okay, now I don't feel like a complete wuss cos I'm not the only one feeling the burn of Roarke's whatchamacallits' presence. I don't mind (too much) meaningless past hookups; it's the fact that he loved someone else before Eve and that they still have an effect on him even now. His love for Eve is so intense, I don't want him to be intense over anyone else. LOL. Unrealistic of me, I know, and I can't help hoping that somewhere down the line he experiences some of the jealousy and feelings of inadequacy Eve has to deal with.

Beeg - I'm one of the few who has always liked Summerset - even early on. He was nasty to Eve in the beginning but I think she gives as good as she gets. And she loves to take jabs at Summerset. I think Robb's use of his character is perfect in the series...I enjoy his & Eve's banter. But for those who don't start off liking him, I found that as the series progresses, you'll find examples of how he does come to care about Eve, as she does him. Though neither wants to admit it! lol

Summerset really doesn't like Eve at the beginning. Later it becomes more banter and a contest of sorts. After Eve has a sort of light bulb go off and realizes what Summerset really is unhappy about and confronts him with it. It took me even awhile after that to warm up to him.

Yea - I get it about past loves. But she never really had any. She never thought twice about Webster, even though he did about her. She doesn't even have fantasies like others do - she's mostly like ewww whenever Peabody starts talking about things like that.

I'm on the audiobook of Midnight in Death now and wondered why it shows up in GR as #7.5? I thought it would be #8 as per your list - am I missing a novella, perhaps?

Midnight In Death is a novella. It appeared in Silent Night.

So I am 40 something percent into , and it's my first time reading the book. I'm loving it btw. But I have a question about Roarke. In the scene where Eve goes to check out his weapons collection, and pick up the .38 for testing, it says Roarke is pointing to the wrong weapon. Eve sort of hesitates then picks up the gun below the one he's pointing one too. So she picks up the .38 but it's not the one he was pointing to. What's that about? Does he not know the weapons? I'd find that hard to believe since he's a collector. I don't believe he's the killer, otherwise I'd think he'd be pointing out to her his next weapon of choice. I tagged the page because it confused me. Any thoughts ladies?

If I'm remembering correctly, he pointed to the "wrong" weapon. Eve never told him the specific details about the gun and the fact that he points to a different one is meaningful. He doesn't know which was used in the murder.

Am I getting this right all?

From what I remember she had told him the make model. But by pointing to the wrong one he was testing to see if she knew. Surmising that is she knew they had the weapon as it was something she probably wouldn't know otherwise. But that's just how I remember and it's been awhile.

Yes, he's pointed to the wrong weapon but Eve did tell him the model that was used in the murder. I just checked. So he knew had the .38 in his collection, but didn't point at it.

If she said that's the wrong one then that would point to the murder weapon being in her possession which she didn't tell him. Because the murderer would know that info so that was a detail they didn't immediately release.

I'm still confused. She told him the model of the gun. He said he had it, but pointed to another gun. She took the correct gun. What am I missing?

It proves she knew which gun it was. He was testing to see if she did. By picking the right gun that told him she had the mirder weapon. She wouldn't have known otherwise.

Oh, I didn't think of it that way! But why is Roarke testing to see if she knows the murder weapon?

Because if she knew what the weapon looked like, she had to have seen it, which meant to him that she had the murder weapon in her possession. So she knew that whatever weapon Roarke had was not the actual murder weapon - she was just trying to get information from him and see what he knew - so by picking the correct weapon she gave away information to him that she hadn't told him directly.

There are just soooo many. It's hard to remember. My brain kinda stuck on that point when I read it also, so I remember it a little better. The flower quetion that came up - I remembered - but for hte life of me couldn't remember what book or the details.

It's all running together after a point.

You explained it perfectly, Penni. And yes, they did a lot of "testing" each other in the beginning...feeling their way.

The immortal blossom is in Immortal in Death...but I don't remember if the pool scene is or not.

It was solved in another thread. It was the Venus blossom and the scene was in the pool in Survivor In Death.
