Natalie Herzer Hi all...
I'm new here, and glad to have found this group. I recently published an urban fantasy novel, book one in The Patroness series.
Blue Moon Rising
Description:
Maiwenn Cadic does not have an easy life. Not only does she try to solve magical troubles as a Private Investigator by day, but she is also the Patroness of Paris and kicks the ass of the shadows lurking in the night – and all of it in a world, where magic supposedly doesn't even exist.
When five shapeshifters end up dead, she knows it’s bad news and has to call in The Council, who immediately send their legendary assassin and shapeshifter, Kylian ‘The Killer’ Tremaine. Together they have to overcome their prejudices and obstacles in the form of a trigger-happy bounty hunter and a hungry rogue, and solve the murder before more bodies pile up.

Sample chapter and more stories are a available on my website.
I would be happy if you take a look.
Thanks

Melissa McPhail (melissagmcphail) | 4 comments Hello everyone,

I just discovered this group and it's wonderful to be able to connect with so many authors and readers. I would like to introduce my epic fantasy novel, Cephrael's Hand, which has won several awards for SF/F and was a Book of the Year finalist.

You can read about it here:Cephrael's Hand: A Pattern of Shadow & Light Book One.

One Amazon reader wrote: "Cephrael's Hand exceeded my expectations for a debut novel by leaps and bounds. The writing is elegant yet witty, the scenes and characters veritably leaping off the page. I know I am reading a good book when I am not only on tenterhooks to find out what happens next, but I find myself truly longing to meet and speak with (and sometimes to shout out to!) the characters. Add to that the richness and variety of the realms in which the story plays out; the juxtaposition of good, evil and unknowable; the mystery the author weaves in and about the characters' origins and intentions, the maddening contradictions and shocking twists and revelations... ah yes, truly a highly enjoyable, absorbing page turner that had me both laughing and gasping out loud."

I am always interested in helping other indie authors who want to exchange reviews.

Best,
Melissa

Lisa Ard (lisaa) | 24 comments FREE BOOK for you to read and review
For a limited time, I am giving away a complimentary epub file of my book Fright Flight for those interested in READING and RATING OR REVIEWING my debut early middle grade chapter book on both Goodreads and Amazon (and any other book sites you might like).

Why? Honestly, as a new author with a small publishing company, getting notice is the hardest part. You can help me.

You can read more about Fright Flight on Goodreads and see other reviews. I will say that this is the first book in a series aimed at kids 7-10 years old. It's short, simple and lends itself to exploring more about the characters, their adventures and dream seeking in future books.

I modeled the series for children moving on from Magic Tree House, Secrets of Droon, How to Train Your Dragon and Geronimo Stilton.

If you're interested, send your e-mail address to me via Goodreads and I'll contact you from my yahoo account. I have epub and pdf files available.

Read more about me, Fright Flight and the Dream Seeker series at www.dreamseekeradventures.com

Katharina Gerlach | 9 comments It's lovely that we're allowed to promote our books here. Thanks for the opportunity. Maybe, some of you might like my YA historical fantasy "Urchin King".

For fourteen years, street-urchin Paul's miserable existence has kept him safe from an ancient law that sentences all second-born twins to death. When he learns he is the younger twin of the mentally handicapped Crown Prince who's in danger of being killed for his disability, he agrees to play the role of the miraculously healed royal heir. Paul struggles to learn how to act like a born ruler, but finds that his greatest skill, getting by unnoticed, is now his greatest liability. He knows if he is discovered, he will be executed like all second-born twins.

Rift of Askrah Book 1: Fracture is an epic fantasy story about a world with a forgotten past. It centers around two nations, Draven and Rinh, which occupy an island known as Askrah.

Nihlen Draven is a prince, and heir to the throne of the nation of Draven. Marina is a street thief from the nation of Rinh. She is contracted to kidnap the prince, but the whole thing goes sour and they are forced to run for their lives.

Draven has fallen to Rinh, and the past of Askrah begins to resurface. A strange ability known as the Eye of Kings links Nihlen to this past, and he will have to unlock its secrets to save his family and kingdom.

James Pratt (jamesdpratt) | 2 comments Hi, my name's James Pratt. I have a number of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror short stories available both individually and as thematic collections on Amazon and Smashwords (including a few free ones!!!). The one I want to highlight here is a fantasy short story collection. The stories include two weird western tales featuring an ex-Confederate soldier lost in a very strange place, a monster love story featuring three very strange brothers, the adventures of a vampire and his melancholy ghoul sidekick, and a not quite Tolkien-esque tale featuring orcs and a rather scary elf. Here are the links to it:

Amazon - Imagine That: Tales of Places Strange and Fantastic
Smashwords - Imagine That: Tales of Places Strange and Fantastic

Comments and feedback are appreciated.

Matt Larkin (mattlarkin) | 26 comments Hi everyone! I recently released my first novel, Children of Sun and Moon.

It's epic fantasy in an Oceanic setting--something a little different.

The Lunar King bargained his daughter away in marriage to end generations of war between the two dynasties of the Skyfall Isles. The King sends his niece Chandi along as handmaid to his daughter. Chandi has two tasks: watch over her cousin, and spy on the Solars. Still seething over the death of her lover during the war, Chandi accepts the task he gives her. The Solars cost her everything she cares about, and now she wants nothing more than proof of their treachery so she can go home.

She knows little of spying, but the blood of the Moon God running through her veins gives her powers mortals can’t match, powers that let her slip into places she’s not supposed to be. Of course, the more she uses her powers, the faster she becomes a lunatic.

When she discovers a Solar soldier, Naresh, watching her, she decides to return the favor and stick close to him. But as he shows her the wonders of the domed underwater city, she begins to realize the Solars are not what she thought. Soon, she’ll have to choose between loyalty to her people and her own heart.

Charlotte Browne | 16 comments Hi all my book Coven is now available on amazon.com and amazon.co.uk as a paperback, or on any amazon store for the kindle book. You'll have to type in 'Coven Charlotte Browne' to find it. It’s a fantasy adventure story, here’s a description:

Coven is a story about a young woman named Katie whose life was turned upside down. After a series of tragic events Katie cries herself to sleep on her sofa, only to find when she wakes up that she’s in a whole new world. A place where the worst creatures from your darkest nightmares exist, all their efforts bent on killing her.
But fate it seems has other ideas for her as she quickly forms a friendship with a man named Bargo; who not only reveals to her why she is in so much danger, but ultimately who she is. Through him she learns that she is being hunted by an army of witches, wizards, werewolves, orcs, trolls, ogres and all manner of other dark creatures. That they themselves are governed by a ruling race of vampires, led by Cilia. From the moment she meets Bargo her name doesn’t seem to right anymore and she quickly shortens it to Kate. Kate learns of the Coven of sorcerers whose sole purpose it is to track down and destroy evil; and that she is destined to lead them to victory against Cilia and her armies.
Once united with the entire Coven Kate feels as though she truly belongs for the first time in her life. Along with true friends Kate finds true love with Balthazar a fellow Coventian. Along her journey Kate also discovers the truth about the deaths of two of the founding Coven members, and a secret that could change the fate of the Coven.

Check it out.

TANGI'S TEARDROPS

When Tangi's father dies, he leaves her nothing but three empty bottles. A kind uncle takes the poverty-stricken girl and her stepsisters in, and for a time life gets better on his farm. But Tangi remains a lonely outsider; her stepsisters tease her for her crippled leg, and the housekeepers use her like a servant.

Just before her thirteenth birthday, Tangi learns the truth about her father's strange legacy: the three bottles aren't empty any more. They're filled with all the tears she's cried since her father died, and her tears are enchanted. She must use them to travel to Rosevine, the world of her dead mother. Tangi not only belongs there but is necessary to keep Rosevine alive.

Tangi's tears will save Rosevine, and Rosevine will save Tangi from a cruelty-filled life, except for one thing: Tangi's lost the bottles.

Debbie | 102 comments HI,
my YA novel (sci-fi) Amethyst Eyes has been out for 6 months now, please take a look.

http://www.amazon.com/Amethyst-Eyes-e...

"The biggest thing on 15-year-old Tommy’s mind is convincing Mom to let him go to the drive-in, but when an accident claims his mother’s life and puts him in the hospital, the arrival of his estranged, alien father brings more changes than he had bargained for.
It doesn’t take his father long to figure out that Tommy knows nothing about who or what he is. Without any explanation, Tommy finds himself onboard his father’s spaceship where he is forced to trust a man he does not know in a world he knows even less about.
Adapting to his new life seems overwhelming, and his father’s solution may prove to be Tommy’s finest challenge yet…Jayden. A few months younger than Tommy, high strung and always in a mood, the doctor’s daughter definitely didn’t like being ‘told’ to help Tommy fit in. Jayden is not the most welcoming or patient of tutors, let alone a friend.
As fate would have it, Tommy quickly learns that none of these things compare to the peril that comes from being born with amethyst eyes."

Richard (ogresan) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Richard Parks, and my most recent fantasy novel, The Ghost War was published just last month:

"For the witches of Nyhelm, a witch-home is a place
of power, a fortress, and a sanctuary. It can also be a trap."

Calia is the child of a witch who lost her home and her life. In an effort to
protect their daughter, Calia's father kept the girl's identity as a witch
secret from everyone, including Calia. Raised as a hunter, she only learns her
true heritage at a time when her people are in danger of passing from the world
completely. There's a sickness ravaging all the witch-homes of Nyhelm, a sickness that spreads through the earth itself and leaves its victims catatonic, insane, or dead.

Calia joins forces with Taleera, a witch whose home was far enough from the
blight to escape the worst of its effects, but the sickness is spreading
quickly and even Taleera is running out of time. Joined by a rogue mythsinger
named Charre who sees the potential for a grand ballad in their struggle,
Taleera must fight the sickness in order to teach the ways of her people to
Calia before it is too late. Calia in turn must use her skills as a hunter
to track down and destroy the cause of the sickness, or fail and watch her heritage and
her hopes for the future die with the last of the witches.

My next novel, To Break The Demon Gate, is due out from PS Publishing next year in a signed, limited edition. I'll post more details soon as there are any.

Jo | 10 comments Hi everyone. I recently joined Goodreads and I've just realised there's a Fantasy group. I want to tell you about the novel I've published through Amazon KDP. It's called 'The Story Menders' by Jo Rowe and it's a sci-fi/fantasy novel aimed at anyone from 12 to 112.

You can read the first chapter and a bit on the amazon web page at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Story-Men...

If you want to buy my book, strategically priced at less than the cost of a cup of coffee, you can download it on to your Kindle or download the free Kindle reading app to use on your computer, iPad or android or iphone.

I hope you enjoy looking at my book. If you know anyone else who would be interested in sampling it please pass on the information to them.

I've started to write a blog, which is still a work in progress, which will give some background information about the story and about some of my other interests. You'll find it at:
http://jo.jorowe.com

I hope you enjoy the book, and would welcome tags, but not 'paranormal' if you don't mind, as I don't think it really applies to my story.

with best wishes

Jo

Victoria Grefer (vgrefer) | 45 comments Make sure to check out the website/blog for my new ya fantasy novel "The Crimson League." It's at crimsonleague.wordpress.com.

Set in Herezoth, a war-torn kingdom with a history of conflict between those born with magic and those without, “The Crimson League” is a story of adventure, grit, and sacrifice. Join Kora Porteg, a girl of humble origins, as she aids a resistance movement fighting to wrest control from a noble-born sorcerer who slew the royal family. Along the way, Kora discovers she is a sorceress herself, as well as the unwitting subject of one of her society’s oldest and often mocked legends. Though she accepts she can have no place in Herezoth after civil war should end, she fights alongside the usurper’s sister, a thief, a scholar, two telekinetic brothers, and other members of the group that calls itself the Crimson League. As their prospects deteriorate and numbers decline, the League has no choice but to make a final stand against its foe and the army that supports him. “The Crimson League” is the first in a series of novels about Herezoth and its magicked inhabitants, as they struggle to make names for themselves, or simply to survive, against prejudice and evil.

Interested in more? There are three ways to read the book: 1.99 on kindle, or available in print from amazon.com (currently on sale) or the publisher, createspace. Links to purchasing sites are at the blog!

Hello, my name is Jonathan Lake and I have recently published my novel on Amazon. Here is a brief book description:

Jody, an aristocratic teenager, falls into a deadened coma, after a surreal accident in the woods. Awakening, she discovers that she has gained an exceptionally powerful memory, which soon allows her to learn the violin at an extraordinary speed. Once her town becomes infected with an intruding group of seeming phantasms, she is swept into an adventure, together with ghosts from the present and past, to rescue her town from the intruders. Before Dark is a maze of political, financial and spiritual intrigue whose many conflicts, pursuits and legends will capture the reader in a thrilling chase until its dramatic conclusion.

Check it out, if you're into suspenseful, intellectual fantasy with surprising twists at nearly every chapter's corner!

Stephen Pearl (stephenp11) | 272 comments Hi. I just finished a great fantasy book, reading not writing, and I’m just dropping in the review here in case someone is looking for something to treat themselves with.

Review of Remedy by Heidi C. Vlach review by Stephen B. Pearl.
On rare occasions one is privileged to be present at the start of something spectacular. This, the first book by Heidi, may just be such a privilege. Heidi has an excellent grasp of interpersonal relationships adding a level of depth and reality to her characters interactions that one seldom sees. Her characters themselves are interesting “people” who you not only get to know but want to get to know. The affection, and in some places ire, they hold for each other resonates from the page into the reader’s heart. For myself I found a great camaraderie with Peregrine, a Korvie, an intelligent flying queasy dragon, who has traded a good measure of his health to do a task that needed to be done. Korvie are one of three intelligent races sharing the world that Remedy is set in.
Heidi has done a fair job of allowing the unique biology of her three races to affect their behaviour just when you begin to forget that you aren’t reading about Homo sapiens something happens to remind you of the differences that make the species unique.
The story lines are about duty and striving to do the right thing over the easy thing. Heidi doesn’t make her world overly dark or sickly sweet, she makes it real with people standing up to a horrific event that could crush them. Some fall, others rise and some are held helpless by their own pressing needs.
The writing flows well and draws you through the pages holding suspense until almost the end.
Now what cost the fifth star? This is Heidi’s first novel and it isn’t perfect, very very good though. Her world building could use some work using things like dogs and recognisable plant names kind of jerked me out of the read. There may be an explanation for why these things exist on a world of Korvi, Ferrin, and Aemat but I didn’t find it in the book. The climax came a little early leaving over long for the epilogue. I know some of the factors that lead to this. When one writes about a plague one is torn between the reality which is that plagues peter out and the desire to have a smash of an ending. Still and all it is what it is in the story. This second is a lesser fault because by that point I just wanted to hang with Peregrine and the gang for a few more pages, but the end could have been tighter.
That said I give this book a very strong four out of five stars. Heidi has great talent a fine voice and I hope a bright future as a writer. Anything I saw as a fault will be corrected by experience and as it stands Remedy is a fine work better than most of the fantasy out there and quite unique in both theme and voice.
Congratulations Heidi a well earned four out of five stars.

Remedy Remedy by Heidi C. Vlach

J.D. Hallowell | 62 comments I'm J.D. Hallowell, and my first fantasy novel, Dragon Fateis currently out on Kindle. It should be out in softcover and in other digital formats by the first of July. The second (and final) book in the series, Dragon Blade, is scheduled for release by the end of the summer, with a third book, set in the same universe but not part of the same story, ready to come out before the end of the year.

Dragon Fate by J.D. Hallowell is a heroic fantasy adventure in the grand tradition of the genre. Delno Okonan is a young former soldier eager to put the swords and strife of war behind him, when a chance encounter leaves him inextricably entwined in a tangled web of dragons, magic, and intrigue, as he struggles to find his place among dragons and men, and stave off a plot by renegade dragon riders that threatens all he now holds dear.

If anyone is interested in a review copy of Dragon Fate, please let me know and I'd be happy to send you one.

Julie Rainey Hello all,
The first book in my Lost Princess series is out Lost Princess: The Journey Home. It's a blend of science fiction and fantasy.
Synopsis:
Eighteen years after two caring strangers decide to take her in, Anne must face the harsh reality that everything in her life has been a complete and utter fabrication. With the help of her friend and Protector, she sets out on a journey back home, to planet she never even knew existed. Will she be able to defeat the terrifying evil that awaits her and uncover the truth about what's really happening there before it's too late?

Thanks,
Julie :)

“Fate was for emperors, fools and soppy lovers: - fate was the self-important egotism of those doing well, and perhaps most of all fate was the sheer unbearable arrogance of the living.”

A book which involves ghosts, detectives, banana skins and knockers!

Diane McGyver (dianelynnmcgyver) | 22 comments Hello, my name is Diane Lynn Tibert McGyver, and I just published my first fantasy novel, Shadows in the Stone. It is the first of four books in The Castle Keepers series. It's available at Smashwords and Kindle.

Website: http://dianelynnmcgyver.com

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00815FI6M

Cover Blurb: Things aren’t always what they seem to be in a small town in the Land of Ath-o’Lea. Magic creeps in the shadows, waiting to pounce...

Corporal Bronwyn Darrow vows he’ll never fall victim to love again after the woman he adored betrays him. He directs his energies to rising in the ranks of Aruam Castle, aspiring to one day command as captain of the guards. Although he treasures his home and family, he is blinded both by his desire to succeed and a mysterious magic lurking in the shadows of the ancient castle.

Alaura of Niamh, a half-breed enchantress with a deadly past, takes refuge in Bronwyn’s hometown. When the two meet, the spell which binds them is stronger than their fears of falling in love. As Alaura’s secrets threaten to separate them forever, outside forces attempt to shatter the security of Aruam Castle and eliminate Bronwyn. When an orphan weaves their lives together, they embark on a journey destined to either destroy or deliver them to the passion burning in their hearts.

David Berger (idavidberger) | 4 comments I'm happy to be a part of a supportive community of authors and readers. It feels like a branch of a family tree I've just discovered. I think I already posted a link to my book early on in this thread, but I just wanted to thank people for being welcoming. :)

I gave serious thought to it, but I just can't afford it. Too expensive. I really wish I could go though. :/

I even had somebody offer to sponsor a dealer table for me. But I would have had to buy two memberships to get in at $225 each. I just don't have $450 lying around (plus other expenses).
