Keith Gouveia | 3 comments Hello all, I'm new to the group. Thought I'd take this opportunity to mention my latest book The Goblin Princess: Felicia Tiller-Sullivain

Little Sally Weber is your average eight-year-old girl enjoying her summer vacation, but when her mother is involved in a car accident, wrecking their car, she soon discovers the true wonders populated in New York City. Masked behind magic, fairy folk walk among us; work with us; govern us. Befriended by Jaak and his family, Sally's world is thrust into danger as she discovers there is someone else out there who knows about her newfound friends. A mysterious force threatens to unravel the century-old peace and bring about a second Goblin-Human war, and will stop at nothing to see his ultimate plan of revenge to fruition — the extinction of mankind.

The Goblin Princess was written for all ages to enjoy.

To introduce myself, I'm a Mechanical Engineer who writes fiction in his spare time. I've had numerous books and short stories published in the last decade and I look forward to doing it for another.

Everly Anders | 87 comments The Colors of Qua by Elle Lapraim The Colors of Qua

This is a story about what it truly means to be punished, and how sometimes redemption can only be found if you go after it yourself.

Sofia exists in a world between the living and dead, and she must help the souls of the deceased transition to whatever comes next. Although Sofia takes pride in her work, she still believes she is being punished for the secret she keeps inside. When she meets a man who can actually see her, everything changes. Now she must be willing to give up everything she knows in order to find the one thing she so desperately seeks – redemption.

Sapphire Hunting (A Young Adult Fantasy Adventure) by J. SenGupta

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy Adventure

Synopsis: Shadow figures are stalking the population of an English University town. A Physics student can sense the emotions of others. His two best friends notice he is coming home injured and distracted. He is looking for something. What he has already found is magic that connects this world to a sister-planet, and people who can help him.

Random excerpts:
The warm red behind his eyes glowed again; he opened his dry eyelids, his vision cleared. He shut his eyes, listening for the heartbeat that had led him this far. He could not hear it. Nothing. Or perhaps it was being drowned out by the thunder of the rainfall on the dark water. It streamed down. In minutes he was trembling. He opened his eyes, and looked in consternation at his blue fingernails. He breathed on them, clasped his hands under his arms. That made his skin sore. Between him and the fortress there was ocean. The high ground above the mad water stretched forward, twisting slowly. There seemed to be nothing to do but walk.
- excerpt from Chapter Two of Sapphire Hunting by J SenGupta

People do not really sneer at other people, James found. But there is a sort of non-acknowledgement, a way of looking over people. The first reason James remembered that day was that this time there had been a surprisingly direct look from Ablunson as he coasted by. On that one occasion they had met each others glances; James thought he saw a faint nod. He almost smiled back, but the moment passed quickly. James heard G. Ablunson get back to his conversation with a gesture towards James. ‘Hard-working type who will probably obtain a tolerable pass,’ were the words that James caught.
- excerpt from Chapter Four of Sapphire Hunting by J SenGupta

James could not back away from the Dark Man. The man revolved, and his body clarified, more solid now than smoke. With deep eye-sockets turned to James he hung in that same spot, behind the black iron post. Black on black. Still, inanimate. Not a man. A horrible thing. Quite, quite still. James held his breath.
- excerpt from Chapter Six of Sapphire Hunting by J SenGupta

Raise your hand and I will mail you a copy in your preferred format and request reviews only if you feel moved to write them. Reviews cross-posted to amazon uk or us doubly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Birds (J. SenGupta)

Greg Curtis | 91 comments Hi Guys,

I'm Greg, and I have a number of sci fi and fantasy novels out on the kindle. Two are traditional fantasies, Maverick and Of Dark Elves and Dragons, with funnily enough - elves, dragons and wizards.

http://www.amazon.com/Maverick-ebook/...

http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Elves-Drag...

I also have two sci fi books out as well. The first is Dragon (yes I know it's a fantasy name - but it seems I have a problem with originality when it comes to names, just ask my tabby cat Tabby!) I pity any children I might one day have.

Dragon is the story of a young man building a battleship to go in search of answers as to what happened to his family a decade before.

The other - And All The Stars A Grave, is a tale about a xeno-archaeologist who gets conscripted into an intersteller scientific expedition to hunt down an ancient race and somewhere in the middle of it all, accidentally starts an interstellar war.

http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-ebook/dp...

http://www.amazon.com/All-Stars-Grave...

I actually only published All The Stars a couple of days ago, and so am nervously awaiting the first reviews.

I urge everyone who reads this to do please take a look at my books, and let me know what you think, even if it's only about the blurbs and covers.

Cheers, Greg.

Robert Boyle (urgus) | 8 comments Hello all, I published my historical fantasy Urgus the Scribe in July:-
Urgus the Scribe by Robert David Boyle

This is a fantasy adventure set in a medieval--but not magical--world. It has large scale battle scenes (although much of the gore and lopping of limbs is left unsaid), but also humour and romance. And, there are serious themes underlying the action and humour, relating to the fragility of civilisation.

Scott Stabler (scottstabler) | 3 comments Hello, My first novel The Knights of the Dawn King by Scott E. Stabler came out early this year. If you are interested in Christian epic fantasy, please check it out.

The sun is setting over the realms of Un'Etheia.

The lands have forsaken the memory of their liege and drift toward an age of horrific enslavement.

Prophetic utterances are reaching fulfillment, while rumors of war multiply in the north and whispers of the Black Horde arise from the south.

The mysterious race of the First-Born gather to reclaim their ancient homeland, even as the ruling houses succumb to greed and power lust.

Over it all an ancient and dark force rises to crush the only adversary who would yet make a stand against the swelling tide of its evil designs — a once proud and honored knighthood, now fractured and held in little esteem, their allegiance to the true High King waning from within.

Thrust into seemingly random circumstances and prevailed upon by harbingers of myth and legend, one man is driven to desperate measures to save his family and in so doing learns the true peril facing the lands. Hounded across mountain and realm by unspeakable evil and fettered by a burden of shame and guilt, he will come to understand true friendship, sacrifice and courage, and will, in the end, discover his place within the decrees of a King.

The book's website (along with some fantasy artwork) is http://knightsofthedawnking.com

Natasha McNeely (nrfarrell) | 7 comments A teenager's taste of death.
A lover's fall from grace.
A spiteful ex's chance at revenge.
A fearful girl's moment of peace.
An ancient heir's breakthrough in magic.
A succubus' memories of a painful past.
A scorned son's night of fun.

Seven stories, seven topics. Seven tales fill this book and lurk in the darkest depths of fantasy. The dark is their common theme, while each individual story shows an entirely different view. The victim, the successor, the antagonist. Take a look through the eyes of each character and live their lives, feel what they feel, and find out what drives them.

Many horrors lurk in the dark. Are you ready to face them?

Greg Curtis | 91 comments Hi Guys,

One thing I'm beginning to notice on this thread is how many of us there are out there who are fantasy writers. And how many of us are self publishing. I've only been doing it for a year and a half, but I have to say that after the piles of rejection letters from agents etc, I'm glad I did. It's not just about the thrill of finally getting your book out there, it's actually quite liberating with your only critics your readers.

I've also just recently started building a blog, my first after the blog here fell over, and have to say that's been fun too. Clearly some of you are ahead of me in that area. So if any of you have a little time I'd love it if you could take a little time to check mine out and see what could be improved.

Oh yes those rejection letters, mine were emails from my literary agent (who was very supportive and nice enough to share my disappointment). What I love about self-publishing is that it gives me the creative freedom that I've always had with my art career. The drawback (and the biggest reason why I stuck with the submission (don't you hate that word?) process for so long) is not having that wonderful team of editors behind you. Not just to tweak and polish but to offer solid feedback on what works and what doesn't. That to me was invaluable. My sister-in-law (and ex-publisher of non-fiction) told me that the best thing an author can have is an editor who really loves their work. But given the state of publishing now-a-days it is growing ever harder for publishers to take on new writers. That's a shame, but let's face it, they can't risk it. I can understand why, I just wish it wasn't so.
Georgina.

Katherine Gilraine (kgilraine) | 9 comments Hi! I'm working on a fantasy series, and self-published from Book 1 forward. Unless I get an offer I can't refuse, I intend to continue as a self-publisher.

I went the self-pub route after a straight year of querying went nowhere in a hurry. The entire experience had paid off, though: I learned a lot about the book publication world firsthand, and the discipline involved in doing this many things on your own is a great way to learn the business aspects of writing. Because let's face it: writing is a business. Above being an art form, a calling, or a form of expression, it's a business, and it's a tough one at that.

My editor has been a godsend. I hired her for Book 2 and onward, and she's outstanding. Never once hesitated to rip me for a plot hole or a grammar error.

And thing is, as I discover, the self-pub fantasy series I had read so far were absolutely outstanding. There is a metric ton and a half of talent out there.

A.J. | 2 comments Whoever is looking for another dragon rider series now that Paolini has finished his Inheritance Cycle, check out The Silver Talon, an epic fantasy that chronicles the journey of a boy in his quest to right the wrongs within the kingdom.

Death and despair cling to the land of Farahdin, ruled by the tyrant king Contemno, but Arius' resolve pushes him past such obstacles. He searches for an opportunity to make a difference: and that opportunity soon emerges.

When a young woman is led to the gallows by a squadron of King's Men, Arius leaps into action, fueled by the legends of his childhood. But his success hangs in the balance...

His rescue attempt will unearth secrets about the land and about the king that run deeper than mere myth. He will discover the truth behind a magical scepter that can supposedly resurrect the dragons of old. With a small band of friends, Arius must learn to navigate this new and dangerous realm of magic, legend, and betrayal - for there is a biding evil in the land that is older and darker than the current tyrant king. Can Arius discover it and stop it in time, or will Farahdin fall to a fate even worse than Contemno?

In the midst of this changing world layered with enchantment and intrigue, magic abounds and permeates the very air. But the power that may ultimately save Arius and his friends might not be so extraordinary after all. In fact, it may be something that is within everyone's ability - magician, swordsman, and peasant alike.

Check out www.TheSilverTalon.com for more info!

Happy reading!

R.E. Washington (rewashington) | 8 comments Hi! I'm R. E. Washington. My epic fantasy book, Burnt Children, just came out as a double release with my urban fantasy, Stone Bearers. Here's a little about each.

Burnt Children by R.E. Washington
In Meli, if you're born with the wrong magic the Purifiers rip it out. They'll etch a black flame into your skin, labeling you a Burnt Child. Elaria is one of those Burnt Children.

She's not allowed to handle magical items and the only thing she can do is work with dangerous rokas stones that are likely to explode at any moment. But Elaria has a secret. She can see magic.

This rare ability draws Elaria to a strange locket that holds a dangerous mystery surrounding the leader of the Purifiers and a conspiracy that could change all of Meli. Soon, Elaria is hunted by Purifiers, befriended by a murderer, and haunted by the ghost of the very woman who doomed the Burnt Children fifty years ago.

All Elaria wants is to find a place to belong. But with a strange power growing inside of her, Elaria realizes she must choose between saving herself or saving the world.
http://www.amazon.com/Burnt-Children-...

Stone Bearers by R.E. Washington
There's a war going on and humanity is the prize.

Caught in a battle between two supernatural forces, five junior high students are killed. But Constance, Jonathan Avery, Maria, and Danielle return from the dead -- and they've changed.

They each carry a piece of a soul stone and with it they have extraordinary powers. Now they can summon weapons from thin air and even start fires with their minds. With these powers comes a connection they never wanted, and coming back from the dead hasn't wiped away the grudges between them. When one of them loses themselves to the power, they are soon caught in a battle against themselves and an enemy that wants to make sure that this time they stay dead.

Synopsis:

Fate hasn’t exactly been kind to twenty-year-old Alexandra. Unless you count the fact that she can communicate with animals, the only piece of luck she’s ever had was being rescued by a werewolf and landing in a forever home with an eccentric couple and their unusual pack of animals.

It’s taken twelve years to earn the official title of Shepherd but she’s now mostly trained, fairly effective, and the first female in over two centuries to hold the position as protector of animals. All animals...

The Territorial Council isn’t thrilled with her new title of Shepherd, but they don’t have any more control over the appointment than they have over her. All they can really do is wait for her to screw something up – which Alex is determined not to do. Everything changes when a chance encounter with a genetically modified Shifter leaves Alex shaken and initiates a quest to locate its maker. In a desperate bid to save her pack, Alex must infiltrate the Parallax Corporation – an international organization with their hands in everything from biomedical engineering to publishing.

Despite years of training and enough money from her live-in pack of misfits to finance a small country, Alex finds herself woefully unprepared to tackle the new threat. To make matters worse, Alex must work with a mysterious man who’s been trying to kill her since the day they met.

Together with her pack, Alex must learn how to stop the biological cloning and find those responsible for the plan before it really does become a global threat.

Don't sell yourself short, Lana. World-building is a fair amount of work, but if you have the imagination to plot a book and to write dialogue, it shouldn't be beyond your grasp to invent a world for the plot and dilogue to happen in. Now, having the patience to build a world is something else entirely! It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea.

Hi everyone,

My name is Michayla Roth, and I've recently published my first book Quest on Amazon. Here's the link, along with a short synopsis. Check it out, and hope you enjoy!

http://www.amazon.com/Quest-World-Her...

Two powers, two quests, two fates...two mortals struggling against the very forces with which they might have aligned themselves, had they been given the opportunity to choose. Two mortals, light and dark, locked into one intense battle. A battle of which the end has already been written in blood. A blood not their own, just as the battle is not their own. And yet, they must fight.
The year is 2E739, the second millennium since Euroclydonus, the last epic battle to shake Wundyrr's foundations. Two thousand years of peace--at least between mortal and spiritual elements--and now, the hidden script of a writing called simply "the prophecy" threatens to immerse the world of Wundyrr once more in a hideous battle, the likes of which could very well rival the infamous Euroclydonus.
Tiernan Lebonn is the single last link between Wundyrr and vitality. Should he fail in his impossible quest to seal evil once more within its fiery prison, the shadow will rise up to devour not only him, but also the world he calls home.
His counterpart, Shiloh of Cheokk, has been steeped in darkness since the day she was born and is bent on winning her own glory through the very disaster Tiernan is trying to prevent.
For either one to claim victory, they must completely lose themselves within the essence of their quests and trust that the powers to which they have surrendered will bear them up in triumph.
But as with any battle, only one can claim the victory. Or perhaps neither can.

Quest (A World of Heroes) by Michayla Roth

Thank you!

Michayla

Chris Galford (galfordc) | 28 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Chris Galford, author of adult fantasy novel The Hollow March. Available in both print and e-book forms, it is a splash of renaissance, revenge, and the ravages of war--the crack of gunpowder mixed with the flare of old magicks.

As for the blurb:

It is a time of upheaval in the Idasian Empire. As religious fervor stirs dissent among the people, and the winter winds loom, thousands gather behind their aging emperor on a march to war.

In the midst of this, young Rurik Matair blunders home with childish notions of revenge, and an unlikely band of sellswords at his back. The third son of a backwater nobleman, Rurik was destined for a life in service to the crown. But when he reached beyond his station, he was banished from his father’s house with nothing to his name. Tired and hunted, he returns after two years abroad.

Yet all is not as it appears. As Idasia’s brutal war threatens to stagnate, old rivalries rekindle. Other players shift through dark games behind the scenes, and old magicks rise against a tottering throne, stirred on by a woman with nothing left…

The Hollow March (The Haunted Shadows) by Chris Galford

Cheers!

Thirty-year-old Seth was an ordinary guy before the car accident.

Now he's been attacked, kidnapped and wakes up in a strange new world. While being chased across a kingdom by an evil wizard, Seth discovers an ancient dragon, and falls in love with a beautiful warrior maiden. Why has all of this happened to him?

Seth can control time.

He's also the last of his kind.

The question now is: with a war about to break out, an ancient evil resurrected, and a portal between Earth and Galadir rupturing out of control, can Seth learn to control his powers in time to save both worlds?

Hi Carinia! Welcome!

That facebook link doesn't lead anywhere. Do you have another, I'd be more than happy to like her page. Is Patsy on GR already?

Cheree Alsop I have finally become published! It's taken a lot of hard (fun) work, and I am excited to be able to share my writing with others! Please go to www.chereealsop.com or you can find my books on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. It would mean the world to me if anyone would like to read a book or two and perhaps give me a review. The following are blurbs on the books:

Galdoni by Cheree Alsop “This is the Arena, and here we live to die.” These are the words carved into a holding cell where genetically-altered gladiators, the winged humans called Galdoni, are trained to fight for the nation’s most popular television show. Kale, rescued by three high school students and nursed back from the brink of death, is given the chance to experience life as a human. When he is captured, he has to use what he learned in the world outside the Academy in order to free the other Galdoni and return to the human girl he loves. Galdoni will be a series. I have the second book in outline form and am excited to start working on it.

Shadows (The Shadow Series) by Cheree Alsop Shadows takes place in a world where two different races gain strength from either the day or the night. Duskies, born as the unwanted offspring from mixing the races, are raised as slaves and protectors from the monstrous Sathen. One girl, a Duskie named Nexa, is given a chance to change the fate of her people when she saves the life of a prince and in return wins his heart. Shadows will be a series. I have the next six books outlined.

Silver (The Silver Series) by Cheree Alsop Silver, book one of the Silver Series, is a coming of age story about a teenage werewolf whose father is murdered. He has to come to terms with his new life, new school, and new friends while trying to prevent more killings. Attempting to make peace with the territory’s pack and falling in love with a werewolf hunter’s daughter make his new situation even more perilous.

Black (The Silver Series) by Cheree Alsop Black, book two of the Silver Series, is about a werewolf raised through the atrocities of a werewolf fighting ring. He is rescued and given the chance at a new life, but haunting reminders of his past follow him as he tries to make a fresh start. He has to confront his dark history in order to protect the girl he loves, or let himself be swept away into the pain and humiliation of the arena once more.

Morgan Nyberg Thanks for the opportunity to promote my 2 YA ebooks. Neither are typical of the fantasy genre but both contain strong elements of magic and mystery. "Galahad Schwartz and the Cockroach Army" won Canada's highest literary award when it was a print book. I'll post the cover images and the Amazon blurbs.

Bad Day in Gladland by Morgan Nyberg The events of "Bad Day in Gladland" take place during a time of strange “plagues”. Glitterville, where the Bugg family resides, completely disappears, consumed in a Plague of Daytime Darkness. The family’s old butler, Bentley D. Kreppit, and the 2 children, acrobatic Athena and brainy Odysseus, along with Odysseus’ pet rat, Defoe, narrowly escape. They travel from town to town, hoping to find the children’s parents. To earn money they put on shows featuring the acrobatic skills of Athena.

Bentley keeps a journal as they travel, relating one particular adventure: the making of the film "Bad Day in Gladland" by Prodigious Productions. At Prodigious Productions they learn of other plagues, such as the Plague of Getting Lost, the Plague of Anti-Gravity and the Plague of Flying Fish. Events turn dangerous (and hilarious) when the greedy director of the film company, J. Metropolitan Nash, and his scheming assistant, Perfidia, become convinced that one of the actors knows a recipe for creating gold. It is up to Bentley, Odysseus, Athena and Defoe to save the day.

Galahad Schwartz And The Cockroach Army by Morgan Nyberg "In this warm and graceful story, the author achieves an artful blend of the mythological and the earthly."
From the citation for the Governor General's Literary Awards (Canada)

Young Galahad lives in the South American jungle, where he plays with snakes and crocodiles and where magic is an everyday occurrence. His parents are adventurers and Nobel Prize-winning authors. But when they fail to return from an expedition in their hot-air balloon Galahad must leave the jungle to live with his grandfather in a North American slum. In this alien and fascinating world he encounters both evil and magic.

Join Galahad and the other main characters - his street-musician grandfather; blind and wheelchair-bound Wheels; Slim, who owns a tattoo parlour - as they confront the evil, power-hungry exterminator, Creetch, who has invented a spray that makes people disappear. Cheer for the unlikely army of cockroaches, flies and pigeons who fight for our hero in his darkest hour.

Sandra Almazan | 18 comments Hi Everyone,

I published a new fantasy short story yesterday. It's called The Book of Beasts, and it's available in e-book format on Amazon, B&N, and Smashwords for $0.99. Here's the description:

Jonur, a biology student at the University of Selath, doesn't believe in demons or magic. He thinks there's a rational explanation why almost nothing lives in the area around Lake Forsaken. As he and his partner collect samples from the area, they become sick themselves. Then Jonur encounters a foreign girl with a stranger book. She claims the area is poisoned and that Jonur and his partner are now affected. However, she plans to use her book to create an animal that can neutralize the poison. Who is this girl? Can she and Jonur work together to fulfill her plan, or will she let him die?
