Thank you, I am so bad with names, in person and in books! I think the authors first name was Dave or David... in the tribe, when someone is born the witch has a vision of the persons "geist" an example is The Big Mans geist is "not to be a shield to the king but during a battle he protects his stepson which breaks his geist and causes him to die. I wish i could remember the stepson's name as he is the central character!

Garrison Kelly (cybador) A wise author once said that charging ten or twenty dollars for a relatively unknown paperback book isn’t a good idea. A wise job coach once said that readers tend to look for a specific genre when surfing the internet for books. When I published Dragon Machinegun on Smash Words, I killed two birds with one stone. Not only is it affordable at a price of 99 cents a pop, but it’s also confined to sci-fi, horror, and fantasy stories. Below is the description of this anthology along with the link:

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

“How far would you go with the man of your dreams knowing a vicious old witch stalks him? What lows would you sink to in order to keep your best friend from becoming a mindless murderer? What would you do if an obnoxious debt collector tried to rip your innards out with crude surgery? How would you feel if you were held captive by a prom king with bloodthirsty creatures for body parts?

Dragon Machinegun is a collection of short stories filled with magic, horror, violence, monsters, sociopaths, and the occasional good guy just to make you believe for a short moment that you’re not living in darkness. None of these bloody adventures are for the weak-hearted or easily disgusted. Enjoy!”

Maz Marik (mazmarik) | 10 comments Hi,
I'm Maz Marik, from Threapwood, UK.

Am currently working on a fantasy/horror saga at the minute, called 'End Storm'. It follows a family as they try to reunite after a catastrophic event changes the world around them....

The saga itself will span over fifty years, although the origins go back thousands, but more of that when it is ready!

End Storm is out now, and the second book is out very soon indeed...

There are also three short stories which are FREE on some formats....

End Storm was nominated for the 'Apple Breakout Books' awards earlier this year, so check it now!

Ryan Alls (ryanjalls) | 68 comments Hi All!

My action/fantasy novel, Imminent Danger (The Bloodline Revelations) is NOW AVAILABLE!!! Listed below is the synopsis:

As a Weapons Master, Eli has the ability to summon any weapon that he has ever touched at will, and master it within the first few minutes of its summoning. Now old enough to join the Academy, Eli and his best friend Jude, who is heir to the Combat Specialist bloodline, believe that their dreams of becoming an Operative in Kismet’s armed forces may finally be coming true. However after a brief time at the Academy, Eli discovers that Kismet’s ruler is hosting the Trials of Magic, Might and Lineage—an ancient tradition that pits heirs of all three bloodlines in three rounds of sudden death. But when a powerful and faceless enemy rises out of the shadows of vengeance and treachery, Eli begins to believe that there may be more to his bloodline than he is aware of. Will Eli be able to master his abilities in time to survive the Trials, as well as expose and neutralize the threat that holds his city and the rest of Kismet in jeopardy?

I took a different route with this novel. I wanted the fantasy aspect to feel more like black ops meets Young Adult Fantasy.

Signy Cullen (signy_cullen) | 5 comments Hello all! Some interesting books here.

My name is Signy and my debut novel is a different take on vampires and werewolves called Farther Side of Away

God created Adam and Eve in the beginning as a werewolf and vampire, respectively. As punishment for the Original Sin, the generations that followed them would be weaker forms of their species. Eventually, humans took over and the vampire and werewolves were relegated to the shadows, all while anger and resentment towards a species they considered inferior grew.

After having lived thousands of years on Earth, Adam and Eve begin the war between werewolves and vampires that will see one species as the victor. As they wreak havoc on Earth, a terrible secret threatens to emerge and destroy what Adam and Eve fight for: peace in Heaven.

God and the Devil both warn of betrayal, but who will betray who first? Will the first people on Earth ever see the afterlife or will they be doomed to spend all of time on Earth?

It's available in all ebook formats (and PDF) on Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

Lita Burke (litaburke) Hello everyone. Please take a look at my new clockpunk fantasy story, "Old Bony Blue Eyes." In Old Bony, a wizard faces a peril-filled journey to Sir Death’s castle to win a powerful spell book for a love-starved dragon.

Here is the back cover blurb:

Wizard Kadmeion’s magician-for-hire business has improved, plus the harpies and certain fey-folk flourish under his magical care. All is well until a dragon named Lady Betrayal summons him.

Kadmeion owes the dragon a favor. He agrees to fetch the book Dragon Lore and cast its spells for Betrayal. Career-enhancing magic fills the book. If Kadmeion acquires it, then his reputation will bring wealthier customers.

Dragon Lore has a deadly guardian. To help their quest, Kadmeion, Bright, and Furgo first enlist the help of Luck, who they discover is no lady. Then they must convince the bickering egos of War to give them a weapon. The last task is visiting Death’s library, where a wizard may check out the Dragon Lore and keep it until the end of his days.

The problem with visiting Death’s island is coming back alive.

A wizard may roll dice with Sir Death for a safe return passage or fight his way out. Even with Luck and War helping, Kadmeion might not succeed. Despite their cleverness, Death’s blue eyes might be the last thing the wizard and his friends ever see.

Sara Bain (sarabain) | 22 comments Hello all,
I'm in the throes of promoting my debut novel The Sleeping Warrior, which can be described as an urban fantasy but is a lot more than that.
I've intended it to read like a crime thriller but developed a fantasy/paranormal thread through the narrative that, I believe, works really well.
It has been described as'a highly readable, very enjoyable and distinctly original work.'
I should be really thrilled if some of you readers and writers would take a look at the link to the book and perhaps give it a try.
Best wishes
Sara

Christian Clason (christianclason) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Christian Clason and I have been writing for several years now.

I have many books I have written. My greatest works yet have been fantasy, and they are co-related through the same series: The Were-Dragon .

Book 1 A Dragon's Curse (The Were-Dragon #1) by Christian Clason
After a traumatizing incident, Jason Hallson seeks out his own treatment for the psychological trauma. Leaving him unable to use his draconic abilities or use magic, he is rendered as helpless as any normal human being. In searching for a new meaning for it all, he meets a few friends with strange backgrounds. Ruthena van Dyke brings in more than enough trouble, being a runaway princess with her father chasing after him in suspicions of kidnap. Arida Sakyme, an odd forest wanderer, finds him amusing and the pair turn into travelling companions right away. Lakina Dupressa has a history of abuse and when she seeks his help, she is none to normal about actually asking for help. Of all the places a man could find the father he never had, Jason finds it in a simple rancher named Juun. Through it all, he has a mind for protecting these four, getting himself out of trouble, and survival in a world without his wings.

Book 2 Ambiguous Flame (The Were-Dragon #2) by Christian Clason
Jason's world is turned upside down by war and family conflict. His family no longer stands as the ruling family, but it still stands for something for its long and ancient lineage. Appointed the General, his fate of protecting and serving his country has come to be a reality. It is now or never for him. But what's more, there are others who join in the conflict. Old friends return into his life, dead family members return and new family members enter his life. But, should the conflicts be too much, if his efforts go to waste, Medelthia will fall to the army of the Jaycaten. It will take all of his skill, all of his learning, and every inch of his power to stop the Jaycaten from enslaving the people of Medelthia, and with his friends he might just make it.

Book 3 Devil's Grace (The Were-Dragon #3) by Christian Clason
Ruthena and Arida are in dire need of help, but so is all of Kadon. When war is waged on the country, Jason Hallson comes to help. Hindered by war injuries, he has trouble getting through a country of humans without suspicion. As if that were not enough of a problem, he has a small girl who calls him her brother and her guardian that he has to watch out for. Emperor van Dyke passes, leaving Ruthena van Dyke the Empress of Kadon. But in the midst of triumphs are losses, and Jason finds that the deities have bigger plans for him...and so does his real father...

Book 4 Taboo (The Were-Dragon #4) by Christian Clason
Jason discovers family he never knew before, and why they are the way they are. After meeting his spoiled twin, he finds himself many years before his own time. After meeting an assortment of new friends, Jason finds himself fighting old causes in new situations. A new background means a whole new assortment of people, which leads to new friends, new enemies and new lovers. Torn between many and his learned modest ways, Jason must sort through love, lust, hatred, and justice. And through it all, he must choose between living with constant fear of killing his own blood kin. And if he is to survive it all, he must discover himself before it's too late...

Book 5 Dragon's Love by Christian Clason
A dragon’s love can be more promising than a thousand kisses from an angel’s heart…

Fifteen years after the destruction of the Dormasks, Jason has built his family home upon the love and blood of his hard labor. The ungratefulness of his children is not reflected in his love for him, but in his ventures he finds that his actions must reflect the love for them, or he might lose them to the Eye of the Dragon. But, if he chooses to take the path that leads him to the Eye of the Dragon, he loses the love of his life forever.

These are just from my best series yet.

K.R. Cox (krcox) | 5 comments IF: What do you think is the purpose of Fantasy?

K.R.: I think getting to transport the reader to a place that is impossible in our reality is an excellent reason to enjoy fantasy. Science has taken us far, but experiencing the wonder of an enchanted object or transforming into a bird through a magic spell to soar, is something that is exciting to dream about. Imagination is fundamentally important, as without it, we couldn't achieve as much as we have - our
species I mean - and dreaming of the impossible, often leads us to find ways to make it happen in our world through creativity and ingenuity.

Fantasy is a driving force.

message 715: by Iscah (new)

Iscah Iscah | 9 comments I like that question, K.R. (couldn't find the question origin).

I have a different answer though. To me, Fantasy (and Science Fiction) deals with issues in hyperbole. They're exaggerations of life, our hopes, our fears, and desires.

Science Fiction tends to take science matters and run with them to their logical or illogical end.

Fantasy does this with things that aren't easily quantified or referenced.

Paul Monk (pcrmonk) | 6 comments My name's Paul, I've recently self-published Strange Metamorphosis my YA fantasy adventure novel. I actually started taking notes for this book back in 1992, would you believe? Now I'm learning the ropes of emarketing.

A boy facing a difficult life decision is magically and gradually turned into a bug by a giant oak tree, forcing him to take an extraordinary journey that brings startling changes to himself and those around him. Forced to carve his own path and follow his heart, he sets off and quickly finds himself teaming up with a wonderful group of insects, each of which has their own agenda. And with time running out and his existence in peril, Marcel must fight to the finish, or die a bug.

Stephen Holak (sholak) | 8 comments Hey peeps: I'm Stephen M. Holak, author of The Winds of Heaven and Earth, the first book of an epic / contemporary fantasy series Keystone, Lodestone, Clarion, just published last week for Kindle and print on Amazon.

I'm deep into the first draft of book II, which I'm targeting for spring 2014.

Here's the book blurb:
A North Carolina aristocrat investigating his pregnant wife's disappearance discovers his family is central to a magical realm's ancient prophecy.

When Jordan Parish's wife Melanie disappears a few days after the couple announces their pregnancy, everyone assumes the motive is ransom. But six months pass with no demand, and when the FBI discovers the only clue to her disappearance, a missing family heirloom worn by Melanie on the day she vanished--with Jordan's blood on it--the investigation turns to the temperamental and volatile Jordan.

Desperate to find his wife and clear his name, Jordan mounts an investigation of his own. What he discovers about the adopted Melanie's hidden past plunges him into the world of mystery and magic surrounding their families. And when Jordan and Melanie's brother Chase pursue strange assailants into a mysterious storm, Jordan is cast into a realm where he finds his child at the center of a struggle for power surrounding the culmination of a centuries-old Prophecy.

The Winds of Heaven and Earth launches a new fantasy trilogy, blending epic and contemporary genres in the tradition of Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever and Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber

Max Thomas | 2 comments In the outer fringes of the Brindell Forest a deer stopped in it's tracks and stood up straight. Flicking it's ears up and flaring it's nostrils. With it's delicate ears it can hear the faint drip drip noise of the rain falling from the leaves of the canopy above to the forest floor. In it's flared nostrils it can smell the sweet earthy green smell of a wet living forest. But there is something telling this deer that there is something wrong. It breaths in and out deeply flaring it's nostrils again taking in all the smells of the forest and the sent on the wind. This time it picks it up the sent of blood. The slightly metallic yet wet smell of fresh blood. And this time it also captures the distant scream of an animal in pain. The deer fleas. But we follow this sound out of the forest and come across a wooden farm building. The place stinks of blood and we can clearly hear the screaming now which is from a human female.

Morgan was at this moment being born. His mother a dark haired women of short stature but lean and strong from the work she did helping her husband on there small area of land, was for all her strength dyeing. This birth was to be the end of her and Norman knew it as he held his wife's hand and he comforted her.
"Push love our son is nearly in this world"
Blood was pouring from her now. Her screams had now faded into horse roars and rasping fitting coughs for breath over the foaming blood coming from her lungs. her body now going limp no longer convulsing with the contractions. she had nothing left to give her son. She was to die and she could not free her son of her Womb. With a stab of pain she snatched a breath of air down into the depths of her body. She felt her son kick. She bit down severing the end of her tongue, screaming a primal scream which she did not know was in her. With one last tumultuous effort she pushed. As she pushed she heard the sound of her son crying. Morgan had entered the world as his mother left it. Her body now limp in Normans arms. Only the last whisper of breath slowly escaping her lips. To quite for any to hear. To hear her last word "Magic"

The new babe crying in the blood of his mother and the farther racked of tears from the loss of his wife, picked up the boy and said "I name you my son Morgan and the killer or my wife and do not take you into my house. You have killed her and I could not love you. But in you my wife lives on so I will give you a chance of the great future she would of wished on you."

Norman walked with his new son into the town away from the forest and up into Sha. Once in town he sold his boy to a merchant family, and went back to the farm. Coming again across his deceased wife he cried in pain and anguish. He lay down next to her cleaning her face and caressing her gently. He never rose again, but followed June into the next life.

The start to Morgans life was still to get worse. Once in the arms of the new Merchant family who bought and sold small live stock and moved them from the small out city's around Brindell to the main city Sha by the great mountain Shadin. The merchants moved by horse drawn cart. Three which they slept ate and lived in and two with the animals. No sooner had they left the first town that misfortune turned there way.

The Slate Road long ago named because of the old quarry long empty that was the start of Brindell Village where they had left. The road stayed close to the forest for a long while. The three men in the company sat atop the carriages with bows incase of wolves. The women walked with the animals bearing flaming torches to scare away wild animals. the few animals that did not walk along in the precision were in caged in the carriages, where the older children kept an eye on them and kept them under control if needed. Morgan was in the back carriage with the young and the Old. The grandmother( a title given to the oldest or wisest of the merchant clan) held Morgan tightly to her chest. She had long ago learnt to feel the Almoher.(the mother of the world. The Eda) and she knew that something bad was going to happen and she could feel the magic in the air.

Barbara McLaughlin | 12 comments Hello Fantasy Readers!

Welcome to my fantasy world, HEAVEN’S WAIT!

I am writing a fantasy/young adult series of a different sort. In contrast to the dark fantasy that prevails in today’s marketplace, my series takes place in a colorful world that lies somewhere between Earth and the gates of Heaven. It follows the journeys of a human soul, RJ, an unexpected visitor to this in-between world, and the quirky, cartoon-like inhabitants of Heaven’s Wait, the Vowellans. Together, they work toward discovering and fulfilling the Vowellans’ purpose in Heaven’s Wait.

Though, at a glance, the series appears to be written for a young audience, it does not speak exclusively to young people. Significant life messages and family situations that have realistic psychological depth are woven throughout the series, despite its overall lighthearted and often comical tone.

The first offering of the series, "RJ’s Story, Heaven’s Wait! Tales from Vowella", is available in eBook format at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view.... The second installment, "Innocents, Heaven’s Wait! Tales from Vowella", is currently with my editor. Once completed, both books will be published to Amazon in eBook and paperback formats. For now, reviews of RJ’s Story are welcome here on Goodreads. Please visit my Author Page. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Mark Boyd | 17 comments The Prophecy (A Dragon's Tale, #1) by Mark Boyd Greetings, I published my first novel last Dec. It is the first of a trilogy - A Dragons Tale. This is the cover info and also the endorsements from two other published authors.

In a time when dragons share the world with man there is a foretelling of a great king, one who is born of human-dragon-elven blood that will rule all of earth in a millennium of peace. The prophecy is an ancient story told to all dragon hatchlings from the Dragon Book of Lore. Born of old majic, through the centuries, it became just another story to give the young hope. The old believed…the young cannot perceive how it could ever manifest; who would ever want to be other than pure blood dragon? The prophecy existed in story only, until Anaterri Strayarth, a blue dragon living in human form and the daughter of Stragor Strayarth – Head of the High Council of Dragons, saves the life of Prince Leandro Sargovia with a transfusion of her dragon blood. The unification of human-dragon blood sets in motion the beginning of the once dormant tale and a love that transcends time.
Grand Magi Aloysius Alamaris, a black dragon hiding in human form, learns of the initiation of the prophecy and plots the ultimate destruction of all who seek to bring the prophecy to fruition.
Anaterri and Leandro are now pitted against the ultimate evil, fighting not only for their own lives but also the lives of their children…and they must insure the prophecy is allowed to manifest…at all cost.

Terri Valentine - Author of Storm Dancer and Sands of Time - The Prophecy by Mark Boyd is a heart-warming tale filled with love and adventure, joy and sadness. You will know what it is like to soar on the wings of dragons. A delightful adult fantasy novel.

Nancy Lee – Author of “Voices of Light – Conversations on the New Spirituality” and “Awakening the Mystic – Adventures in Following Your Heart”, Radio Talk Show Host of Lights on with Nancy Lee -
“The Prophecy by Mark Boyd is a wonderful story, crafted smartly by a new and upcoming story teller. I cried, I laughed, I cheered and I learned how to fly. The characters are rich and vivid. The tenderness touched my heart and the villains made me want to leap into the book after them. This is a book that is hard to put down.”

Book two will be out by Christmas of this year. You can view all three books on my website - www.adragonstale.net

I look forward to making new friends here and sharing stories. My dragon friends keep filling my head with their stories so hopefully I will keep writing.

DESTINY HAS CHOSEN THEM, DEATH WILL MAKE THEM PAY.

Death desires to rule as king of the gods, and is poised to ignite a war in the heavens that would consume all life on the distant world of Er'ath.

Brothers Coinin and Marrok are thrust into a world of magic and summoned to a secret temple, where an ancient mage brotherhood tells of a great destiny that has surrounded them since before they were born.

Now the fate of this world hangs in the balance, and it is left to Coinin and Marrok to seek the Swords of Cerathil and save their home from destruction.

Treachery and deceit haunt them, and their very relationship is put to the test, as the ultimate battle for survival begins.

---------

Underworld synopsis:

Several months have passed since his battle with Death, and now Coinin Wulf sets out to take the fight to the notorious dark wizard, Lordich Secracar.

Coinin finds himself alone and lost, desperate to find his brother, who is believed to have been abducted at the behest of Lordich.

Tied to his duties as Curator of the temple has stalled any search for his sibling, until the day Prentis, the temple architect, unveils a statue to Marrok that commemorates him.

Coinin, believing the Brotherhood think Marrok dead, demands that Archmage Menin mount a rescue.

Menin agrees and a search party is organised that leads Coinin, Jericho and others into a series of events that spiral into death and despair as they fight for survival against deadly enemies and impossible odds.

A twist of fate sees the brotherhood given an offer they cannot refuse. One that could see them finally triumph over Lordich.

Old friends are lost and new ones made in the race to save Marrok.

Book two in the Er'ath series continues the adventures of Coinin and Marrok Wulf, immediately following events found in Destiny of the Wulf.

Robert Italia

A Christmas story for our turbulent times . . .

When Christopher Russo was in middle school and struggling with an unhappy home life, his artist-mother gave him one of many secret family treasures entrusted to him: an ancient diary unearthed from the mountains of her ancestral Austria. “Use the Book,” she implored him one fateful night. “It will save you.” To escape their monstrous father, if only in their minds, Chris and his younger sister turned to their faith and added a fantasy story called FOREVER CHRISTMAS; a Victorian-era Dream World inspired by all the art and artifacts—the sacred and the unholy—so influential in their lives. But after a deadly legacy claimed his mother and his first true love abandoned him, Chris tossed aside his “childish” beliefs, turned to science for solutions, then rewrote the story to fit his enlightened views—and settle old scores with all who have hurt him. But the Book is steeped in Alpine legends, holds a dark secret, and an even darker power that takes control during the Holy Season of Magic. And when his story came to life . . . .

One year later, another holiday season approaches. Chris, now a high school freshman, is battling his sister’s failing health, his treasure-seeking father who doesn’t “believe” in doctors, and his guilt for a terrible tragedy—all the while haunted once more by visions from the Dream World that he can no longer deny exists. Despite all the misfortune, there is one last hope still echoing in his mother’s words: a permanent escape to that Dream World where they’ll be free of neglect, illness, and shame. But Chris must confront the horrors that await if he wants to recapture all the love he once knew—and save his sister from the legacy that relentlessly stalks her.

Beware the power of science . . . and the Holy Season of Magic.

Frank | 3 comments Hello everyone! My name is Frank Morin from southern Oregon. I'm a writer of all types of fantasy, although I'm new to Goodreads. Looking forward to getting to know the group.

While my agent is trying to find homes for a couple of completed novels, I've indie published Saving Face, a near-future urban fantasy/sci-fi novella. You can find me at www.frankmorin.org.

The short description of the novella is: In a near future where human bodies are rented, Sarah is one of the top-ten most requested models. But when her employer tries to force her to sell her body permanently, she has to fight to escape before becoming the ultimate orphan.

In addition to writing, my life is full with my day job as a software consultant, trying to keep up with my four kids and fantastic wife, enjoying the beautiful outdoors, reading, working with a local youth group, and tons of other miscellaneous activities.

Any recommendations for new members?

Laura | 24 comments Hi! I'm Laura Stephenson, the author of The Complete Guide to Being Evil. It's a quirky urban fantasy about an impetuous young mage who angers a local necromancer. He tries to kill her, and instead of leaving town or laying low, she makes a deal with a devil to win her little magi war.

I have a vlog if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Happy reading.

Some families are forged through marriage, through birth, or through adoption. But there are those – albeit few – that are forged by defiance: unintended by-products of a hierarchy’s oppression.

Walthis Crane was blessed with the ability to view the souls of those who walk among us. To this introverted billionaire, his anomaly displays itself as a soft glow emanating from us all. But there are those in which this luminescence does not simply present itself as a soft glow, it radiates profusely in signification of the gift they possess. It is these individuals Walthis is in search of, those who he feels are destine to be the saviors of the world. He discovers the first of these saviors embodied in a sprite, violet haired young woman by the name of Kira Harington. But where Walthis believes he has discovered the first ally in his quest to save lives, he soon comes to realize that this vibrant young woman’s ability only allows her to end them. Throughout the course of the tale, Walthis comes to the grim realization that in order to save the souls of the world, a great many may have to be extinguished first.

W.J. Lennox | 32 comments Hi my name is Wendy Lennox and I am the author of The Caves of Tavannar, the first book in the Crystal Keeper Trilogy. It is a contemporary teen fantasy novel set between contemporary Scotland and the fictional world of Galidom. This allowed me to incorporate Scottish characters, locations and dialogue into a story-arc which spans these two interconnected worlds. I am a native Scot myself, and was therefore keen that the tone of my book reflected my Scottish roots.

The protagonist in the story is Josie Jenkins, a troubled thirteen year old living in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Josie is struggling to cope with the fallout of her parents' separation and the torment of being bullied at school. The discovery of a family secret draws Josie into the strange, alien world of Galidom, where she finds herself at the centre of a dark conflict.

A sinister turn of events leads Josie on a perilous rescue mission to the Caves of Tavannar, where friends' lives hang in the balance and danger lies around every corner. Josie must find the strength to overcome her fears in order to prevent this fragmented world being torn apart once again by an ancient and powerful enemy.

The journey that Josie takes in the first part of this trilogy helps her to find the confidence and courage to face her own personal challenges back home in Scotland. As the story progresses, her character will continue to grow in strength showing the independent, humorous and spirited side of her personality, where she can finally let her own unique qualities shine through and is comfortable in her own skin.

It is my first novel, so if you would like to give a wee Scottish heroine a helping hand to get noticed, it is available as an ebook on Amazon's kindle store. Running a free promotion on the 7th & 8th of Nov. Would welcome reviews :)The Caves of Tavannar http://amzn.to/1dEF6g4
