WHAT ARE YOU READING AND WHY!!
I'm reading the last book in Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series, Keys to the Demon Prison. I'm really enjoying the book and am sad to know this is the last one in the series. All of the books have been great reads!
Right now I'm listening to a book of short stories by Dennis Lehane - I like him.I've finished Cockroach by Rawi Hage - finished yesterday and attended discussion at HP Library.
(That's in Toronto - I'm a Canuck - get over it! Ha ha!)
Wolf Dreams - great story - being discussed at Middle-East/North African group right here at GR.
The Little Book - Seldon Edwards - good time travel book. I've listened to the audio, and am now reading text version with Jeff - our bedside read.

good point- thats why I prefer BBC adaptations- since they are more interested in staying true to the source material- have you seen Paul Scofield (sorely missed) as Martin Chuzzelwait?

I am currently reading 5 books at once right now :)Eldest by Christopher Paolini.
I am reading this novel because I enjoy good fantasy novels. I also like vampire novels, but don't include them in fantasy because (even though they are fantasy) fantasy is more for dragons, fairies, warlocks, dwarfs, and such in my eyes. It is a wonderful book so far.
It by Stephen King.
I am reading this novel because I just plain love Stephen King. He is my favorite author and I have liked all the novles I have read by him so far. Also once I saw the movie I had to read the book.
Beach House by James Patterson.
I am reading this novel because I also enjoy his mystery/murder thrillers. Also because it sounds like it will be a good mystery.
Halfway To The Grave by Jeaniene Frost.
I am reading this novel because I love vampire novels and because it was recommended to me by a friend. This book is wonderful so far and very hard to put down.
Disintegration by Scott Nicholson.
I am reading this novel because I thought it sounded interesting when reading comments about it on Amazon. Just started it and I am liking it greatly so far.
I know it is crazy for reading so many books at once, but as long as the stories are fairly different, it isn't easy to mix them up.

The Island of Dr. Moreau
I am still reading
. I'm really loving this book and only read a little at a time to make it last longer. I also recently started
by Christopher Moore. This is turning into a fun book and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Melissa, I enjoyed Practical Demonkeeping. Hope you like it. I'd also recommend Island of the Sequined Love Nun.I finished White Coat, Black Hat: Adventures on the Dark Side of Medicine last night. It was okay but kind of dry.
At lunch today, I started reading The Family That Couldn't Sleep: A Medical Mystery. I just made it through the Introduction and it was fantastic. I think I'm going to like this book.
Just finished Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution by, Michelle Moran Great Book!Learned alot and just love her writing! Now reading River Marked by, Patricia Briggs Love this series so have been waiting for this one!
currently listening to A Discovery of Witches by, Heborah Harkness narrated by, Jennifer Ikeda I've had this one on my radar since they first started advertising it pretty good so far!

But not because I love it. I am really trying to read it but I'm just not crazy about it. Maybe if I had found it when I was younger it might have a different effect on me.

East of EdenAngels' Blood
I am currently reading two books at once. Sometimes now I try to read 3 or 4! (so many books so little time)
Someone told me that Angels' Blood is better than Twilight (I am a Twi-hard and going to Forks soon) but I have to disagree.
Thanks Rick for inviting me.

I loved I Capture the Castle, there is also a movie version. They are both good. I recognized the author as the same one who did 1001 Dalmatians.

Marialyce wrote: "Hopefully I will finish up Keith Richard's Life today. It is quite the story!"The story of his childhood was possibly one of the best pieces of memoir I've read recently. I can't believe how likable he seems. The parts that dragged the most were the guitar lesson-y stuff. (And I used to play)
I know it's only one side, but wow Jagger is a jerk. I tend to believe Richards because he seems to overall have an affection for Jagger. (And, well, hasn't Mick Jagger always come across like a jerk?) And, well, just wow at how Keith Richards isn't dead.
I think it is amazing that he made it to his sixties still standing. They gave new meaning to sex, drugs, and rock and roll. (or maybe that phrase was made for them!) I do like Richards though he is in your face, a take me or leave me type guy.

I just finished reading Haunted by Barbara Haworth-Attard. Excellent little ghost/murder mystery! Now, I'm reading Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.
Truer words have not been spoken. So little time for all the books I want to read. Keep plugging at it and loving every moment. I find my self wanting to finish to start the next one. Sigh. I love stories.
And I just keep adding and adding more and more to my TBR list! Will I ever get them all read? Maybe not but I do enjoy trying!!!
Jane wrote: "And I just keep adding and adding more and more to my TBR list! Will I ever get them all read? Maybe not but I do enjoy trying!!!"How true......and I am even re-reading old favorites while there are so many on my TBR list. What is that about? Maybe this is how hoarders feel......I need more, more, more when in reality I don't. Or maybe it is just that, like true friends, the more you have, the happier you are. Whatever the reason, books make me joyful!!!!
Reading 'Lincoln and the Baltimore Plot 1861: The Pinkerton Papers and Related Documents' edited by Cuthbert in 1949. Fascinating read about the plot to assassinate Lincoln as he transferred trains in Baltimore on the way to his inauguration. The Pinkerton's had to assure Lincoln's safety, in Confederate stronghold Baltimore, in the ten blocks from one train station to another as he made his way to D.C. for his swearing-in.Just to think it was published less than 100 years after the Civil War gives me shivers. So happy to now own a copy - plot basis of my NEXT novel.
Old-time blue cloth cover, 161 pgs, 6x9x.5. Musty. Cannot find this book in the upload-cover database ;d

It us fairly interesting but it is kind of lawyerly. It is very readable but it is presented almost like it is a brief. And that may have been how he approached it - as a legal argument.

Yes, I love it so far. I love the way he discribes things! I havn't read a novel with beautiful discriptions in a long time. Love how the story is taking form too. I am currently on chapter 4. That is awesome that he is part of our group. Would love to complement him sometime soon :)
I'm reading Weekends at Bellevue because it's the book chosen for my book club. But I'm finding it really disturbing. I can't decide whether this psychiatrist is impressively honest or stunningly narcissistic.
I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert because it's this month choice for my local book club. I was very curious about this book since a it was made into a movie starring Julia Roberts. I'm about 4/5 done with the book; so far I've enjoyed the "eat" part, got kind of bored with the "pray" part, and - so far- am entertained by the "love" part. I've read varied opinions of this book in the James Mason group; I'd say I'm with the people who weren't "gaga" for the book...but it's okay. I plan to see the movie as soon as I finish the book.
I didn't care for Eat, Pray,Love I tried reading it but it never hooked me in from the beginning. I heard that the movie is better, heck it's Julia Roberts, does she ever make a bad movie? Mystic Pizza comes to mind, but hey we can't win them all.
I just finished reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. It had been sitting on my shelf for a long time. I'm not sure how it came to be there. I don't remember buying it. But then a friend told me that it was the best book he had read in a long time. I'm still processing the thoughts Diaz stirred up in me. It is an extraordinary, provocative work about Santo Domingo post-Trujillo. So much more to say about it, but I need more time to sift through my thoughts.
Marialyce wrote: "Hopefully I will finish up Keith Richard's Life today. It is quite the story!"I just gave up on it. I was about a third of the way in, but I just couldn't sustain any interest.

Bought it because so many people have been talking about the book. It's already a few years old... but I'm always behind the times anyway.
I finished
and really liked it. Thank you to all of you who said such wonderful things about Christopher Moore's books. He is certainly not my usual kind of read, but I loved the story. I was drawn in and couldn't wait to see how it ended. I enjoyed the characters and loved the humor. I will definitely be reading more.
Still reading Wives and Daughters up to the the final chapters of the book. Maybe 10 chapters away, hopefully.
I am currently reading Murakami's The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.I love how he uses memories and dreams as a way of story telling. He makes it seem as if the quirky and most odd things seem normal.
Anyone here reads books by Murakami?

I read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and enjoyed it, as well. I have also read his book on running, which wasn't as good as I had hoped. I have Kafka on the Shore on my TBR list.
