Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I know...library books are always hurry and read. And somehow, no matter how long it is between requests, several will always arrive at once. I've also learned the rules of checking out series books. If you read the first book of (for example)a trilogy and then send for the next 2 the third will always arrive first as the second will be checked out by someone else already and it won't arrive for anywhere from 7 days to 3 weeks (at least). At least 50% of the time someone will be waiting for #3 so laying it aside and getting the second first is at best"difficult" if not impossible, on and on..... I think it's some kind of addendum to Murphy's Law.

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I'm reading Narrative Of My Captivity Among The Sioux Indians by Fanny Kelly. It's interesting, as it is a primary source, but I'm having a hard time reading and keeping the prejudice of the time in perspective.

I have well over 1000 books that I own- but I still take out new thrillers from Library- I also take out recent thrillers- and during Summer- they allow you to take out non 14 day books for 8 weeks at a time and renew up to 3 times

I don't think I can count high enough to enumerate all my books!!! And I just found another box in the garage that I had forgotten about. And I just got back from the main library with five more....its an addiction, but a grand one.

Desiree (divades112) I am currently reading "Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea" because it's time to put the tear jerkers aside and have some laughs. The last two books I read were "Night" by Elie Wiesel and "The Shack" by William Young. I'm emotionally drained lol

I wouldn't dare start counting the number of books I own. I am addicted to book sales and have a favorite used book store (Adams Ave. Book Store) which has a bi-yearly sale and cannot get out without dropping at least $100. The scary is, those books are mostly in boxes around the house. I am so glad to see others who have boxes of books around their homes as I thought I was the only one who did that!

With all that reading material you would think I would not need more (ha!) I just checked and I have 80 books currently checked out from the library with about 20 on order. Oh well, I guess it's better than drugs or drink.

I am halfway done with BEAT THE REAPER by Scott Bazell- and I must already recommend it to all as one of the most ingenius, laugh out loud thrillers I have ever read. It concerns a mafia killer in witness protection posing as a doctor- and is simply brilliant! Great plot, great characters and so so funny- the auther even has constant footnotes which are comic gems in themselves! Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am currently reading my first book by Canadian author Lori Lansens. It is called Rush Home Road: A Novel and was recommended to me by a friend as she is one of her favorite authors. I am trying to work my way up to her new release. Also, I am reading it for Task 15.9 of the Seasonal Challenge Group Summer Challenge because the title of book describes my love to be at home. Whenever I am gone, I always Rush Home.

Judith (jloucks) Just started Graham Greene's "Brighton Rock" (on the 1001 Lists). I have loved everything I've read by him, but the jury is out on this one so far...I'm only 50 pages in though...

I also just finished a book of essays I've had on my tbr shelf a very long time, "Extremes: Reflections on Human Behavior" by A.J.Dunning. Dunning is an MD, and he looks at the most extremes of human behavior (cannibalism, for instance) and traces it back through history, then feeds it through a filter of what modern science can tell us about it in the 20th century. Interesting stuff! Anyone else read or heard of it?

Judith......Brighton Rock is a very chilling book and quite good. It was made into a film in England with a very young Richard Attenborough as Pinkie.....see it if you get a chance.

A lot of the people I know who read her say that is her best one. I have yet to read it, though. Since I own a copy, I keep putting it aside for library books that come in, lol.

Melissa (lissieb7) | 52 comments I read The Other Boleyn Girl some time ago and thus far, this book is bringing back some of those characters and giving one a pretty good look at the consequences of actions and how a person's actions can affect others for quite some time to come. Hence the title, The Boleyn Inheritance. It is good so far. I like getting back into this time period.

I have quite a list of Greene's books that I really liked: "The Power and the Glory", "The Quiet American", "The Comedians", "The Third Man", "The Tenth Man", "Our Man in Havana", "The End of the Affair", "The Human Factor"...and others. Several of these you may recognize as film titles also, all quite good as well. I have "The Burnt Out Case" on my tbr shelf, which I heard is a four or five star novel also, and I know I'm forgetting a couple of other titles I either have to read or have read.

Probably "The Tenth Man" is the only one I suggest not starting with. It is probably his weakest work as it was more of a fleshed-out outline for a script than a novel in its inception.

I think "The Power and the Glory" is generally considered to be his best novel, and it is very powerful. I recommend him highly!

The book is loosely based on the Authors ancestors. I am about a third of the way through the book. From discussions with friends about the book, the author has really tried to give you a better understanding of the conflict and lack of understanding that existed between the aboriginals & the early settlers.

Hi, Jeffrey. I stopped surfing when I read your post about moving from Flagstaff to Phx. In June? Wow!
I have a dear friend who came back from Phx Tuesday visiting her mother who had knee replacement surgery. My friend loves Phx. But dear girl gets cold in 50 degree weather. She wants to live in Phx. Not me. BTW we live in Chicago.
