Among Absolute, Omnibus, Deluxe HC, OHC, etc. :

What three books do you want the most?

or

What stories do you want to see collected in a nice HC?

Feel free to do a couple: one list for things you really want but maybe are out of print or out of your price range, another list for the next items you plan on buying. Maybe a list of things you would like to have but aren't a priority.

I'm planning on getting the Absolute Transmetropolitan too. It's just farther down my Buy Next list. Been waiting a long time to read that.

JLA by Morrison is one of my favorite reads from him.

Rel the store I went to today had the death and return of superman. It was $60. Pretty good condition but they used the old paper on it and it had yellowed a little.

The Lion's Share I'm still waiting on an omnibus for Aaron's Thor and waits daredevil. The only current one scheduled I want is Hawkeyes.

Anyone read it uncanny avengers omnibus? I hated vol 1 so stopped, is it worth reading the whole thing?

I'm actually going to get the Vol 2 of Hawkeye because I already have Vol 1. I'm really looking forward to that.

Same with you, I read Vol 1 of Uncanny Avengers and wasn't completely happy with it. It was choppy, writing and art-wise. Vol 2 comes right out of Axis which I didn't read either. I'm kind of done with new stuff unless it gets tremendously good reviews.

message 10: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share The annoying thing is that the Hawkeye omnibus does not contain volume 4: Rio Bravo! I don't get that!??

Glad you said that, we're on the same page, i'm not going to buy it.

My next purchase is Criminal deluxe vol 1 & 2. Have you read?

The Hawkeye Omnibus is 1-22, the whole series. Vol 4 was issues 17, 12-13, 15, 19, 21-22 according to Amazon, so I think you are ok. Vol 3 were the issues between those in V4.

Criminal V1 and 2 are on my list. My LCS has them so I'm going to see if they will cut me a deal. They are the next Brubaker books I want to read.

I liked the Uncanny Avengers omnibus. It helps to have read Remender's Uncanny X-Force as this continues some of the story threads. It's not a must have unless you are a big Avengers fan. It's far superior to the Axis event that follows it.

Not a lot of big things coming out this month now that I've already ordered Brubaker's Cap omnibus. I've ordered everything in my previous to-buy list except GI Joe Complete vol 7. Next month will be the Annihilation Conquest omnibus.

I loved the Uncanny X Force omnibus, but i don't think avengers can live up to that. I tend to avoid the big events, I think they are a waste of time, thought saying that, secret wars looks tasty with the Maestro in it.

That's great news, i didn't realise that. They numbered it really strangely. I'll look forward to reading that!

Uncanny Avengers won't be better than Uncanny X-Force but if you loved the former I think you'll like the latter.

Secret Wars has a little of something for every Marvel comic fan. I'm picking up Planet Hulk starring Steve Rogers. I'm think Old Man Logan will probably be collected in HC somewhere and I'll pick that up when it is along with the main event. It will be interested to see how all these other stories will get collection (or IF they do). Not sure they will fit in a normal companion book.

message 16: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share And did secret wars come out of hickman's avengers?

message 17: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Alistair wrote: "And did secret wars come out of hickman's avengers?"

Definitely. Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers. "New" is actually more important, IMO, and I enjoyed it more than Avengers.

I haven't decided if I'll pick up Secret Wars when it comes out in Omnibus/OHC. Probably, just so I know what's going on and how the new universe it set up.

message 18: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I think it is coming out of Hickman's New Avengers storyline which builds from the Bendis Avenger's Illuminati story. Not 100% sure since I am not reading the event as it happens. I'll pick up the OHC when it comes out later this year.

message 19: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Ah good I'm reading them on holiday along with the infinity event next month. Got to have something to read on the sun lounger :)

It's like $80 for 288 pages! Wtf! I'll probably pick it up when it reduces in price.

message 20: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Keep in mind that Avengers/New Avengers tell two parallel stories and are in sync. Halfway through is the Infinity event, then at the very end of both series, it leads directly into Secret Wars.

As Rel said, New Avengers is bout the Illuminati and details more about why the end is coming and what they do to stop the end of the universe. Avengers is more about what the rest of the team is doing during this time and how they deal with the end when it comes.

I'm not sure where the first OHCs are broken up. They may lead right into Infinity, or be a few issues short. I would hope they lined it up so you read the first OHCs, then read Infinity, then read the next OHCs when they come out.

message 21: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Thanks for clearing that up, as I was confused by the different titles as per usual.

Think I'll wait for the omnibus.

The Lion's Share Can anyone tell me how avengers time runs out fits in to the avengers titles? Is it after or during the other two Hickman titles?

Alistair wrote: "Can anyone tell me how avengers time runs out fits in to the avengers titles? Is it after or during the other two Hickman titles?"

TRO takes place in both Avengers and New Avengers. At a certain point in both titles, the story jumps ahead 8 months into the future and both titles focus on what the teams do just before they realize there's no hope. TRO is also the last of both titles. When TRO ends, Secret Wars begins. Hope that helps.

Hickman did a great Nick Fury run called Secret Warriors. It was collected in omnibus (it's expensive now), in standard size HC, and I think there is some sort of large ultimate/epic collection TPB. It's worth checking out. There is also a Shield run where half of it was put out in OHC but there has been a pause in finishing the story. The first half is awesome and I'm impatiently waiting for it to be finished.

As far as my buying next list goes:
GI Collection vol 7
Annihilation Conquest omnibus (in June)
Absolute Y the Last Man (in July)
East of West HC (in July)

message 29: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Yeah i own the secret warriors omnibus, it's awesome. I think Hickman's best run was Fantastic four.

My next purchases are

East of west deluxe
BPRD 1946-1948 HC
Hawkeye Omnibus
Locke and Key slipcase set.

Volume 1 of the Locke and Key master edition is coming out soon. I haven't read Locke and Key but I'm thinking about picking up this volume 1 to check it out. I'll pick up Hawkeye too but it's a couple months out IIRC.

message 31: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Yeah same here. I'll read vol 1 first and make my decision.

message 32: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Have you read any BPRD?

message 33: by Relstuart, Mod+ (last edited May 26, 2015 08:52AM) (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I haven't read BPRD. I'm a bit reluctant to pick it up because I already have such a long list of books in my wish list. I've heard good things. I do like the look of the Hellboy Library Editions too but I haven't dabbled in those yet either.

Edit: Vol 1 of the Locke and Key master edition is available on Instocktrades.com. It will be a couple weeks before I'm ready to make another order there though.

message 34: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share IMO BPRD is better than the Hellboy stories. I've got the plague of frogs omnibuses and vol 1 is excellent. Looking forward to reading the others. Beautiful hardbacks as well.

Well, I was going to pick up Fear Agent but Iron Man Omnibus by Layton is going OOP so I might go ahead and pick that up, right before Absolute Transmet in a couple weeks...

message 36: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Ok, I changed my mind. Bought Fear Agent 1 and 2 as well as Astro City Parallel Lives. Next week: Absolute Transmetropolitan. Also grabbed Invincible Ultimate V2 HC for relatively cheap. Slowly going to get those volumes.

That will probably be it for this month.

I thought the Iron Man Layton omnibus was good. One of the better classic Iron Man books available. But, Fear Agent was really good so I'd rank it higher than the omnibi. Please let me know what you think about Fear Agent. The first half of the saga was good but the second really tied it all together. Love how well done the Library editions are.

That's kind of what I was using to decide. The only reason I was going to jump on IM was the thought that it was going OOP. I think there are enough out there for me to wait a month.

message 39: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I've never read any iron man. I've never been attracted to his stories.

I've got both fear agent library editions. I think I'll save them for a rainy day. :)

message 40: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Also, please check out BPRD!

message 41: by Sage (new)

Sage (thaczero) | 96 comments I enjoyed the IM by Layton. Felt weird though as I felt like I was reading a Burt Reynolds superhero story. Also was slightly disappointed at the Demon in the Bottle storyline. I thought (for some reason) that it was a lengthier arc but really it was only a few issues (if that).

Also annoying that in almost every issue they felt the need to dedicate four or five panels to Tony running around trying to suit up while nobody sees him.... but that's older comics for you!

LOL, I know what you mean. It's worse later when Tony has the curly mullet.

I think Demon in the Bottle has been misrepresented. It's significant because a super-hero realizes he's an alcoholic and this is probably the first time it ever happened in comics, but the story around it is kinda lame, I thought. I reread it recently and it's not really a story arc about his alcoholism, it just happened to reach it's climax there.

But when I look back on my favorite Iron Man stories, the Michelinie/Layton team is what I think of, particularly Armor Wars which will hopefully be in the V2 omnibus.

I've been thinking about trying the Aaron version. I haven't read GR since Danny Ketch was introduced. Never could quite "get" the character.

The Lion's Share Who's Danny ketch?

Alistair wrote: "Who's Danny ketch?" He's the third iteration of GR (Johnny Blaze was the 2nd and probably most well known.) Ketch's version came out in 1990 and was pretty popular at the time. If I remember correctly it spurned 2 additional series, one of which had Blaze in it.

That $60 price tag looks pretty decent for a new Absolute. :)

It's been over a month since I've made an InstockTrades order. I just ordered the new Locke and Key Master edition and the Dial H Deluxe. I'll post what I think of them once I have a chance to read them.

Anyone read Grayson? The first HC is out now and appears to be pretty popular.

BZ, if they have it for free to check out at your library I'd be curious to hear what you think of Deadly Class by Remender. I think there are a couple of TPBs out.

message 50: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share No I've no read hardly any DC Lately. I'm mostly reading image and marvel. Seems a bit weird to give him guns seeing as batman taught him how not to use them.

I've read deadly class both volumes. Vol2 was a bit off let down for me. I hope it picks up again.
