They look pretty nice too. Might be easier to read as well.

The Lion's Share Hi Rel, is it possible if you could please do a Vertigo list? I'd love to know if they will be doing an American vampire deluxe at some point among others.

Is Vertigo solicited with DC's stuff? If so it should be included in the DC list when they bring out anything oversized. :)

Edit, it looks like no deluxe currently scheduled for American Vampire. They do have standard size HCs. The eighth volume is solicited for January next year. I would think it's ripe for a Deluxe based on how much material has already been released. But, DC/Vertigo is pretty unpredictable on what they release in Deluxe. Snyder is pretty popular though and it looks like DC is doing more Deluxe volumes than in the past. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. :)

Aildiin | 130 comments i think it's too early for an American Vampire deluxe.
They do that when they are trying to renew interest in some old classic of their catalog whose sales have started to slow down.( aside from Fables, every other deluxe was made for a serie whose printing was completed and whose sales was low ( Here have a nice quality deluxe edition that is more cost advantageous than the current HC editions)).
Fables is the only exception but Fables never had any hardcover release so the situation is different there than it is for American Vampire.
The deluxe sales of Fables are not cannibalizing the other sales either as they are way behind ( the next deluxe will cover 86-100, the last TP released was issue 150).

That sounds like some good analysis Aildiin. :)

For a non-typical read, I'm thinking about trying to pick up a copy of Peter Pan by Loisel. It was originally in French. It's a graphic novel pre-equal that shows why Peter hated grown-ups. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

If I pick it up I will let you know what I think. :)

It's amazing but very dark for a Peter Pan story.
I read the french version a few months ago.( being french I import a lot of french comics to the US).
Many french rank it among the best 20 french comics of all time.

message 108: by Sage (new)

Sage (thaczero) | 96 comments Wow that looks awesome!!! Thanks for the recommendation. My French is really rusty (been a long time). Does the English version do it justice?

I have never seen the english version so I don't know. My comment was based on the original french version.( I have the 6 books boxed set that was re-released last Chrismas en France, it's really nice)

The Lion's Share Has anyone read the 'contract with God?

Alistair wrote: "Has anyone read the 'contract with God?"

I've heard of it and want to read it but haven't looked for it yet. It's supposed to be good, but I'm not sure if that's because of the story or because it was a ground-breaker in innovative story telling (Eisner did a lot of that.)

I started looking around for Brubaker's Incognito. The hardcover is pretty expensive now. :(

message 112: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Hi guys. Is it worth getting y absolute or is it better to get the deluxe versions? I've never bought an absolute so not sure how big they are. Are they bigger than the dark horse library editions? Deluxe is much cheaper.

message 113: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I held up a Library Edition to the slipcase box for Absolute Transmet and it looked to me to be about the same size.

I'm not sure Y is worth it in Absolute unless you just like that size. If possible I would flip through and look at the art to see if you like it. It isn't highly detailed (like Top Ten or Transmet) so it doesn't necessarily need to be read enlarged. I have the deluxe versions (because I bought them before the Absolute was available) and I don't feel the need to upgrade.

My two cents...

message 114: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Cheers. That's what I thought. I'll get the deluxe s.

message 115: by Aildiin (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments Money wise it's hard to argue for the Absolute over the deluxe but the Absolute are indeed very nice books ( except some earlier ones where the spine was not so good).
I do however have 2 Absolute so far and I am really in love with them and plan to buy a lot more...

message 116: by J. (new)

J. Ritchie (jedwardritchie) My top 3 now are all OOP:

-Uncanny X-Men Volume 1
-Chris Claremont & Jim Lee X-Men Volume 1
-Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men

This is a random long shot, but I have a ton of original Star Wars CCG cards in mint condition, including ultra rares like Darth Vader etc. I'd be happy to barter with my Star Wars CCG for any of the three omnibus' above.

Is Sin City worth buying/reading?

message 118: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Bit stuck on what to go for for my next purchases. These are my choices

- Y the last man deluxes book 1-5
- Fables deluxe books 1-inifnity (no idea how many there are, not sure it's worth it)
- Batman - Snyder run. Think i might wait for deluxes but will that happen and will they do HC's for batman eternal??! Argggh!

Alistair, no interest in any of the five omnibus volumes coming out next week?

I'm a bit curious about Fables too but haven't tried it. I think I might try to pick up the first Blacksad HC sometime.

I've not picked up Sin City but the big damn copy has got the be the nicest way to buy it.

Hi Mate, which ones? I'll be getting green lantern, but what else are you referring to?

Aildiin, recommended i carry on with fables. I wasn't hooked with vol 1 but vol 2 was much better so might give it a go. It's a great idea for a story universe i must admit.

message 122: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

I've always been curious about Fables but never jumped in. Someday...

message 123: by Aildiin (last edited Aug 14, 2015 08:37AM) (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments For me the best Fables deluxe are volume 3 and volume 9.
Overall volume 2 to 9 are steady and good.
Volume 10 is a crossover with the Litterals and is really weak.
Volume 11 isn't out yet.
Based on the content of the current deluxe there are going to be 16 to 17 deluxe volumes but the first cycle ends halfway through volume 9.

message 124: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Wow! That's way too many books for my shelf. I think i'll pass.

message 125: by Sage (new)

Sage (thaczero) | 96 comments Ail is correct, the last Fables DLX was terribad. A lot of stuff from a Side story which they never bothered including in the previous HCs. Grab the first two or the TPBs and check them out. I quite like the series as a whole but know some people that were underwhelmed

message 126: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Next up for me will be

scalped book 2
Swamp Thing deluxe Snyder
Absolute Y

The Swamp Thing deluxe will be on my list when it comes. Batman by Snyder vol 7 HC comes out later today. Thinking about putting an order in that includes that.

October has some big books. :)

I forgot a couple for next month:
SHIELD Omnibus
Defenders MMW

And I'm probably going to get the hawkeye omnibus
instead of waiting for the V2 OHC in December. That's ridiculous to have to wait that much longer.

message 129: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Swamp thing deluxe
Southern Bastards Deluxe
and possibly the irredeemable definitive edition.

Southern Bastards Deluxe would be awesome. I have Volume 2 of the trades but Ive been thinking of upgrading instead of buying vol 1.

message 131: by Jesse (new)

Jesse A (jaathey) | 332 comments With Locke and Key Master Edition Vol 2 coming out soon(ish) Ive got to get Volume 1.

The Lion's Share You won't believe this but Amazon uk are at it again. They've got in stock new men omnibus first printing and astonishing X men's omnibuses!!! So I got th astonishing one. Weird! Really cheap like £48!

message 134: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Aildiin, you really ought to buy both Fear Agent Library editions as the same time so you can read it as one story. I bought the first one alone and lots of things were up in the air at the end of the first book and I didn't see how awesome it was until the second book began bringing it all together. :)

Alistair, I'm tempted to tell you to buy me a copy of Astonishing and mail it to me. Worth it at that price. Works out to about $75 American and shipping would probably knock me back another $20 bucks.

I think shipping on that weight would be quite substantial. I just did a quote for you...

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/price-finder

it would be £58.25 for postage to the US of A! Very expensive indeed!!!

Well poo. That is expensive. I've purchased books from England and it's been pricy to ship over here but that would be the most by far. I think about $25 for two hardback John Gwynne books a few months ago was my record for shipping.
