Leslie Ann | 941 comments Finished a couple of books while I was in Chicago. One thing plane rides are good for : )

message 352: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments @Nick I read Question Not My Salt

I liked it , I don’t know what that says about me. It was gruesome and what a Thanksgiving dinner. Many horror books are not well written , but this one was.

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Welcome Roe, I missed the message that you were added until I saw your name on the ss. : )

message 354: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments No worries!! You do have me interested in Question Not My Salt!! Love a good horror book!

~ Finally got around to the buddy reads ! Hopefully those 3 comments are enough.

Also, do we want to try for 5 point books first on the Mini? I've found a horn book and a crete book, but feel like finding a cornupia book or one in Peru, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela might be easier and a book I would rather read.

message 356: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I agree shooting for the higher point ones would make the most sense but thats just my two cents.

message 357: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Found a book set in Colombia- so that was harder than I thought 🥴 but am excited as this is how I find great reads that I would never pick up otherwise

That is always the best!!! I needed a green book for something and I had one that had been on my TBR since 2014 so i thought there we go two birds with one stone- one of the best books ive read this yr! Only slightly mad at myself for waiting so long.

message 359: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Looking through my books for horns , if I can I’ll try to read Minotaurs A Technothriller (The Labyrinth Book 1) by John Triptych

But found some I’ve read which other might want to try
The Beast Within (Villains, #2) by Serena Valentino
And
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

If anything they might lead to other interesting horn books

Love it! 😊

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Found a book that has Cornupia in the title…. . That is the last one we need for that category

message 362: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Yes we definitely want to get the higher points finished first. So that should be our focus then the second tier as I think we’ve got all books covered for the 1 pointers.

message 363: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Great finds everyone!

It is the best when you find a book that you love from a random challenge or when you’ve finally read a TBR book and it’s amazing! I’ve done that before and kicked myself for waiting.

I should be finished The Hunger Games tonight and then I’ll be reading my Peru book.

message 364: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I am dying to know what Dawn thinks of Iron Flame! I was not ok and Jan feels like 30m yr away!

message 365: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 375 comments Roe, I'm about 100 pages in and I just keep screaming in my head "Communicate"!!!! really liking it so far

message 366: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments yes!!! Her stubbornness is frustrating after a while! She is clearly not a Virgo lol we address it and drop it!

message 367: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments My Google sheets is being annoying so I’ll finish updating and post here tomorrow with what we need.

I found these 2 books that have cow horns on cover and take place on a dairy farm if anyone likes cozy mysteries! My library has the first one so I’ll probably read that and see where it needs to fit.

Christmas Cow Bells
Goodnight Moo

message 368: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Mine has Goodnight Moo! Got it!

message 369: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments So we still need horns and farms, right?

message 370: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments yes and a few more for Crete

message 371: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments I hope everyone stays safe from severe weather this summer!

I borrowed Ariadne from my library. It appears to be set in Crete (or mostly in Crete. The summary suggests they might leave Crete at some point).

I'm really glad you enjoyed it!! And I did too. We're normal :D
It was JUST the right amount of bananas. It was so fun haha

message 373: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I added this to my TBR! Super intrigued!

message 374: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Me too! I can’t resist a bizarre book 🥴

message 375: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I will say I met my match in House of Leaves. It was beyond my comprehension.

message 377: by Roe (last edited Jun 10, 2024 01:22PM) (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Soooo if Melis reads Christmas Cow Bells for Horns and I read it for farm so i can read Goodnight Moo for horns is that cheating? I feel like nooo. Its the same book technically but different people read it.

message 378: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I've updated my planned books on the tracking sheet. I have two books that I'm currently reading and I'll have both of those finished before the end of round 1 but probably nothing more than that.

message 379: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @Roe- Not cheating at all! Different people can read the same book for sure.

@Natasha-that book works. It only has to be at least 50% in the place.

message 380: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Deal!
I gotta read the 1st one to understand the 2nd

message 381: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I’m the same way. I can’t read a series in the middle unless it’s a reread.

message 382: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments I finished my book for authors initials in Hercules , but when I went to place the date someone took my spot. I don't mind but I would like to have known. I was reading this book for this challenge. I would have dnf if I had know my spot was gone. So if you erase information and take a spot please let the person know. Many are like me and read for the challenge.

Trinia | 2503 comments Leslie Ann wrote: "I finished my book for authors initials in Hercules , but when I went to place the date someone took my spot. I don't mind but I would like to have known. I was reading this book for this challenge..."

Did they remove your book from that spot? 😳
if so, I would take it back...

yes, I can't it has already been added to the permanent sheet. Just wish I would of known, hate having to finish a 1 star book . I would of definitely dnf that one.

Guess I took one for the team.

message 385: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments 🥹 sorry about that! I know it’s never fun to read a 1⭐️ book with so many other good books out there
(Wasn’t me 😂🫢)

message 386: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I moved your book Leslie Ann. I figure it would be better to fill the spots with what has already been read. I’ll move yours back. No need to read a 1 star book for no reason. I’m sure Christina won’t mind.

I’ll fix it tomorrow on the main ss.

It is okay just leave it. Next time just let me know. I hardly ever give up on a book especially if it is for a challenge. I definitely have a competitive spirit and will read books to help a team challenge even if it is something I don’t usually read.
We have till the 15th correct? I will finish my last book for the mini most likely tomorrow.

message 388: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

We only have an 1 hour to update the ss after the deadline. So when you finish update as soon as you can. Thanks team!

message 389: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I understand! I did make a post that we had books to cover some spots that were being read for but it might have gotten lost with everything else going on.

Next time just jump in here real quick to ask if anyone has anything to cover, especially if it’s an ‘easier’ task. Don’t ever feel like you have to finish a terrible book!!! We can always figure something out.

message 390: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Yes we have until the 15th. There’s a countdown on the main ss but I’ll post later today. I’ve been trying to read instead of update but I’ll jump on later and do what I can to at least update the mini then Friday night I’ll get everything else on there.

Like Leslie said- please make sure all your books are on the spreadsheet as soon as possible! Once Round 1 locks we won’t be able to add any more books.

message 391: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Checked shelves , if I am blind please forgive me but I think these books are missing on your shelves:

Sam - Finlay Donovan
JL- The ballad of song birds

LOL I'm competitive too. I always end up signing up for more books than I can read because I get so excited!

message 397: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @sam - please add Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice to your book games shelf. Thanks!

message 398: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments This is still what is unclaimed. Please shout if you can read something to cover!

Horn on cover x1 (animal or musical horn works!)
Set in Crete x3
Set in Peru, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela x1

We're so close!!!

message 399: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @ Trinia - If Something Happens to Me is on your book games shelf but it looks like you started reading it on April 22nd. Can you double check? If that's wrong please fix the start date and if not please remove from your shelf.

If I've already said something about this sorry! I'm trying to double check everything. Thanks!

message 400: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @Dawn - don't forget to do your third DQ day for Starling House!
