Melissa | 3779 comments Looks like June BOM have been picked. The polls closed recently. Threads are not up yet but keep a look out. I'll update the beginning of our chat when they are. But in case anyone wants to plan to participate here they are:

Starling House by Alix E. Harrow Starling House

The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer The Wishing Game

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments and here I am having reread Boyfriend Material (one of my comfort reads) like four times since March.

Apparently I've been needing comfort. lmfao

Melissa | 3779 comments LOL my comfort read is the Darkfever entire series. I'm not sure what that says about me though hahahaha

I've read both of these already. I really liked The Wishing Game. I found Starling House to be different than what I expected but still enjoyable!

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments Sorry I forgot to include my Bookshelf link. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I'm on my phone so it's not convenient to make a cute link. It's called Book-Games.

message 57: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments @Melissa @ Stacey… I forgot about the Throne of Glass series… I need to continue on with it. I think I am on 5 or 6.....

I'm also terrible at finishing series (serieses?) And have the last book in the Throne of Glass series to finish. As a matter of fact I've never read the last Harry Potter book either.

message 58: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I probably start at least five new series for each one I finish… and then I get really frustrated because I never have enough time to finish all those great series I started.

I enjoyed Wishing Game too. I might reread for points I think it's been long enough. I'm interested in Starling House, it's available at my library so I'll join in for sure.

message 62: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @Christina - You read the entire HP series but not the last book!! LOL How?!

@ MH - I will usually keep reading series if I enjoy them but if not or they are just eh then I'll move on.

green | 18 comments Hi, my name is Sunny! I'm from the US and this is my first time participating in a Goodreads challenge like this, so I'm excited and nervous (hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the rules)

Here is the link to my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

The last book that I gave 5 🌟 to is One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. It was a funny book with a likeable protagonist, very easy to read.

I'm looking forward to reading The Sword of Kaigen, just because I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I read the Hunger Games when I was younger and I liked it, but it's not on my list of top favorites. It's been a while since I read it though, and I may like it more this time around. I do want to participate in the reads. I've watched the first movie but again, it was a long time ago.

Food-wise, I love crepes, pasta, sushi, and soup.

My favorite weather is winter. I love the cold.

Louise | 3330 comments Happy Friday everyone. Still recovering from the bank holiday weekend but looking forward to a relaxing weekend finishing some books before we start.

I read The Wishing Game at the beginning of the year and enjoyed it, I should be able to reread for points. Note to self - Do not finish until July 1st

Probably going to start with The Hunger Games first but see what fits my mood

Oh! I think I voted both of those. Off to reserve at the library. :)

message 66: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (glassmansion) | 3 comments Hello everyone! I am very excited to participate and to be on the District 9 team :). I am from Texas and have a 1.5YR son who is my world. I also work full time but typically have an audiobook playing in my ear until I can get home and get my nose into a book once my son is asleep in bed. I adore cats, have (4) currently and would love for more but husband has put a cap on that. I typically will read any genre if the plot sounds interesting enough but lately I have been a horror, fantasy, and a little romance sprinkled in.

Here is my shelf.

What was your last 5 🌟 book? Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young
What book are you excited to read from your TBR shelf? Evocation by S.T. Gibson and any Junji Ito manga I haven't had a chance to get to yet.
Have you read/watched the Hunger Games? Did you enjoy it? I have no read nor seen Hunger Games, sad I know considering the game we are in!
What is your favorite food? (Since we are the grain district!) My favorite food is anything with pasta, especially Ravioli!
What is your favorite season? ☀️❄️🌸🍁 I adore winter, but not the freezing winter Texas has been hit with in the last few years - we can't handle it down here!!

I look forward to chatting with everyone!!

I forget about series I started sometimes. It's not because they are bad just having to wait for the next book to come out sometimes takes forever and I forget. But I have a shelf that I named "series read" and I've gone back and made a list of series I have started and forgot about and am slowly going back and finishing them.

Love the series read shelf idea! I may try that. Right now I just have a shelf in my room that holds the next book in my neglected series -- and that's just the immediate ones I want to get back to.

And Kristen Ashley is also my go to when I can't find anything else to read. I can always count on her to get me completely wrapped up in the story. :)

message 70: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments I play the Novel Role-Playing Game in this group and that helps with me finishing series. I started a spreadsheet with all my book challenges (way too many) and included a page with all the book series that I'm currently reading (it includes how many books are in the series and how many I've read of the series so far).

Welcome Sunny and Kristina!

@Sunny - all you need to do is read and have fun! I love the snow but not the cold LOL

message 76: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments Are we planning to strategize on how many of each of the 4 categories we should aim for, or just read whatever?

Melissa | 3779 comments Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "Are we planning to strategize on how many of each of the 4 categories we should aim for, or just read whatever?"

I’m going to assume that most books will be able to fit into a couple of categories so I would say at least in the beginning we’ll read whatever we want. When the challenge starts we will have a better idea as to what to expect and where to plan for.

New challenge means new ways for the Mods to torment us 😂 so it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with!

message 79: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Less than 2 days away!!

Is anyone planning on reading a BIG BOY book during this challenge? I'll more than likely read the Throne of Glass series throughout and some of them are bigger books.

But I've had The Way of Kings on my TBR for years and I really think I want to read it during Book Games!

message 80: by Natasha (new)

What is considered a BIG BOY book? Over 500pgs? I've been debating reading When a Moth Loved a Bee which is 830pgs but it's the first book in a series and it came out in Feb 2023 and the second book hasn't even been announced yet, actually on the author's website under release date: On Hold, so I don't know if I want to start it. I think that's the biggest on my TBR list.

message 82: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Not me having started two books that are 600+ pages before the challenge started. What an idiot I am lol.
They will both be finished soon, likely, but won't count for the challenge. Sorry y'all.

I'll read more that length, though, during the challenge. I'm working through the Cosmere so..

message 83: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I think normally a BIG BOY is 1000+ pages but it could be different for everyone. If you normally read shorter books then 500+ is a BIG BOY to you!

To me probably anything over 700 would be a BIG BOY. Those 1000+ are not always easy to get through!

message 84: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Nick how could you!?!? LOL 🤪

I tried to read anything within the last 2 weeks and I could not get past the first couple chapters so I’m ready to start. I think my brain was so focused on this game it didn’t want to attempt anything else lol

message 85: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments I'm the worst lmao

One was a buddy read so its not QUITE my fault hahaha

message 86: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments My books are normally 300 pages or less. Many are about 200 pages. So a book that is around 500 pages is a big boy to me. With that said I might try to finish the last Throne of Glass book and maybe the last book in the Harry Potter series. Maybe. If I'm feeling them.

message 87: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Of course the first book I pick to log doesn't have page numbers listed. I'm assuming I go with the default version page number?

message 88: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments I also have The Way of Kings on my tbr…. I might have to read it

I can add a page count since I’m a librarian. What book is it? Can you link the version you’re reading?

I loved The Way of Kings! I didn't enjoy the second book as much (still three stars though). I'm hoping I'll enjoy the next one more.

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 76 comments Looks like I'm starting with an arc I just received.

When we finish a book are we just marking it on the sheet? For UNO our captains wanted us to complete it on the sheet and then do a completion post.

message 98: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments The sheet is fine. If you don't feel comfortable using the sheet you can post a completion post but we don't need both. One or the other is fine!
