Carolyn | 2078 comments My review of December Park by Ronald Malfi December Park by Ronald Malfi, way too long and more of a coming of age tale than a horror novel, but with lots of 5★ reviews.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments The skies of the Scottish Hebrides in Peter May's Lewis Trilogy mysteries are often as dark as the covers suggest, but the people's stories are fascinating. The Chessmen was the last, but a new fourth one just came out that I'm looking forward to. A trilogy+1?

Carolyn | 2078 comments Death at the Sign of the Rook (Jackson Brodie, #6) by Kate Atkinson Death at the Sign of the Rook by Kate Atkinson starts off with her unconventional PI Jackson Brodie investigating an art theft and ends in a Christie-esque type scenario with a group of strangers snow bound in a crumbling mansion. Lots of fun!

Carolyn | 2078 comments Hillary's Final Case (DI Hillary Greene, #17) by Faith Martin Hillary's Final Case by Faith Martin probably needs a new title as it's not her final case (since there are now 4 subsequent books), although it's a good one anyway and satisfactorily wraps up quite a few ongoing threads.

Carolyn | 2078 comments The Book of Witching by C.J. Cooke The Book of Witching by C.J. Cooke is an excellent historical tale based on the trial of a woman accused of witchcraft in the 16th century in Scotland. Woven in to it is a contemporary mystery relating to a Book of Witching. Perfect for reading at Halloween!

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments Why have I waited so long to read this classic? The Big Sleep is the first in Raymond Chandler's iconic private eye series featuring Philip Marlowe. I can sure see why it would have raised some eyebrows back then.

Carolyn | 2078 comments The Crowded Grave (Bruno, Chief of Police, #4) by Martin Walker The Crowded Grave by Martin Walker is the fourth book in his Bruno, Chief of Police series and life in his little French village is far from quiet with animal activists, a new magistrate and Basque terrorists threaten an important meeting between French and Spanish government ministers.
