But seriously, I do so many challenges that lead off in different directions and I don't keep up with some of my favorite series in this genre. This game gets me back to them without feeling guilty.

Category #1 ~ 18 Oct: Nat'l Food Day
Requirement ~ Read a book featuring any type of food on the cover
A Master list is in our first post above. I changed my Hi team message to this. Please do a Selection Post and a Completion post and I will gather data from them. Remember books have to be a minimum of 200 pages.
Besides satisfying the category requirement the book also has to come from one of the 5 R24 Shelves on the Announcement page.
I asked Sandra about those lists since the GR lists only show the 1st 25 pages. She said that you can also consider them as being on the GR list if they have the shelf listed on the book's page.

That's it for now. Let me know if you have questions or put them in the Discussion thread for the Mods to answer.

Review: Mia Malone has bought an old school building to fix up for a catering business and home delivered meal service. Her first catering client is a woman with many enemies who is murdered on the day of the event. The antagonistic cop harasses her and Cristina, her young helper. There are run ins with Mia's ex (Cristina's brother) and a new love interest introduced. A fun new series.

Review:
The bleat of a boat horn drifted from the river to mingle with the sounds of the Savannah waterfront.
Book seven of the Magical Bakery series begins with Katie, Lucy, Declan, and Ben celebrating the second anniversary of Honeybee Bakery. The waterfront is alive with street performers and Lucy's friend Orla is telling fortunes. The following day, Orla is killed in a freak accident that the police originally believe to be suicide. Lucy feels that something is not quite right and begins to investigate the death.
I enjoy this series and have been remiss in reading it for a while. Katie has fully embraced her life as a hedgewitch and uses her magic to instill a little something extra into her baked goods. Her fortune from Orla bothers her. Katie needs to learn more about the Irish Travelers community that Orla belonged to in order to understand the death. The various elements of the family's abilities plays heavily into the investigation.
I love the characters in this series. I really like seeing how Katie and Declan are progressing with their relationship. The house hunting thread ended the way I had hoped it would.
The Spell Club is a wonderfully diverse group of women that come together to help each other. I always pick up something new about each woman in each book.
The mystery was well done and I was looking at the wrong person as the culprit throughout the book. I enjoyed realizing who the person was just as Katie did.
The description of the food in the bakery always makes me hungry. I would love to have such a bakery near me, with or without the magical pastries.
This series is a fun paranormal cozy that I recommend highly.

Tonight, Bones hunted.
Wow! Just, wow! I didn't think I could love Bones any more than I already do, but I was wrong. I was late starting this series and can't believe it has been thirteen years since I first read Halfway to the Grave. Hearing everything from Bones point of view brought back great memories from the first book. In fact, I pulled it off my shelf and followed along as I listened to Bones.
I always remember when Bones first saw Cat and his reactions. I had forgotten some of the people from the original book and how they related to the story.
This is such a powerfully written book that gives me all the feels. I know I have a multitude of book boyfriends but Bones is in the top five.
I went back and forth between listening and reading this book. I had to stop listening in the car because the narrator's voice is very similar to a hypnosis series I use. Other than that, the narration was fabulous.
Being able to see and hear Bones total devotion to Cat was amazing. I can't wait to read/listen to the next book. I already have it in queue.
I highly recommend this book and series!

Review:
This book was actually better than I thought it would be. I decided to go with the audiobook version for this one which made for a pretty good time. The narrator was AWESOME and easily made Gitty my favorite character. She’s a ghost by the way… The plot itself took a little bit for me to fall into since it is about the southern belle/ debutante lifestyle, (which I didn’t think was still a thing) but once I figured out that it absolutely is still a thing today I was able to put myself in a “fly on the wall” mindset and really immerse myself in the story.
Overall, I really liked this one. I felt for poor (literally) Sarah Booth being in the predicaments she found herself in. Especially at the end. I just wanted to give her a hug. Le sigh… The mystery part of the story actually caught me off guard. I thought I had it figured out, but was completely thrown for a loop when the big reveal was… well… revealed lol
I’ll have to read/listen to the rest of the books in this series. If this first book is anything to go off of, I’m sure I’ll have a good time.

Review: A group of writers calling themselves the Science Fiction Romance Brigade came together to digitally publish a collection of their stories. I downloaded this for free in 2016 because of Linnea Sinclair and Marcella Burnard, whose works I have read and enjoyed.
The stories vary widely in length and complexity. Some are little more than a vignette. Others were OK. One, Prime Sensations by Liana Brooks feels like a book proposal with lots of promise. It has all the ingredients but lacks a complete backstory, most of the action and character depth. Burnard’s story was good but would be nice expanded to novella length.
Sinclair’s story about Sass and Kel-Paten could have fallen neatly into her novel about them. She’s the best. Too bad she doesn't seem to plan on writing any more. She is more involved in teaching the craft.
So, some good stuff. Some authors that look like they have potential. I'll be checking to see if they have done more.
