This installment was a total roller coaster!! The highs were beautiful but the lows… gut wrenching. I felt every feel Penelope felt (almost). Poor girl goes through it in this one.
Once again Mimi did not disappoint. I’ve been taking my time reading this series, but this one makes me want to just binge the rest. The ish is about hit the fan!

Book: Shield's LadyJayne Ann Krentz
Author: Jayne Ann Krentz
Pages: 341
Read: 11/4/23
5 stars
How it Fits: Option #2: #3 on Stand Alone list
Review: Sariana, business manager for the Avylyn jewelry family, is trying to salvage their business after their prisma cutting tool is stolen. Her idea is to get a Shield, mercenary, to find it for them. But the Shield she gets has ideas of his own that include making Sariana his Shieldmate. These two are opposites with different agendas. What a great fun read. This is an early Jayne Castle/Jayne Krentz/Amanda Quick book with some general concepts and themes that morph into her Harmony series later on.

Review:
"My lady?"
Charlotte de Nay has made a good marriage after her years of study in Medicinal Arts. She is a healer without rival. Due to unfortunate circumstances, her husband of three years has the marriage annulled and Charlotte ends up living in the Edge. Eleonore Drayton takes Charlotte in and they build a good life together until Richard Mar shows up at their home half dead.
This is an amazing conclusion to the series. I wasn't sure if I would like the pairing of Charlotte and Richard but I was so wrong. Their relationship builds quickly as they work together to bring down slavers that are trafficking humans. Charlotte's healing talents also have a dark side and she is able to use them to her advantage.
I felt that this installment was darker that the previous books. I alternated between listening to it in the car and reading it every chance I had. I simply did not want to leave the characters.
The ending left me wanting more. There is a glimmer of hope that Jack and George will play a role in a future book as they were a key point in the story.
I believe I found a new book boyfriend in Richard. Charlotte has my vote for one of the best kickass heroines I read in a while.
This is an excellent series that I suggest reading in order for the best enjoyment.

"I hope this won't be engraved on my headstone," said the man sitting next to Bones.
This is the retelling from Bones point of view of One Foot in the Grave. It has taken Bones four years to find Cat. During that time he has taken assignments to kill her from a variety of people. Those presenting the contract are the ones that end up dead.
I loved when Cat and Bones were reunited. The heat between them is so intense that it is as if no time has passed. Hearing Bones point of view makes everything fresh and new. I appreciate that the author updated technology to match the world now.
I quickly became accustomed to the Will Watt's voice as he narrated the book. (I had to stop listening to him in the car in the previous book because his voice is very similar to a hypnosis series I use.) The narration made Bones more real and solidified his role as one of my favorite book boyfriends.
Cat and Bones are one of my favorite couples of all time. I adore the depth and strength of their love for each other. I love how well they work together. I spend a lot of time sighing as I listen or read.
Reading this book sent me back to the original to compare the storyline. Neither disappoint. I would strongly recommend reading the series in order. There is just so much goodness going on that you really do not want to miss a thing.
I highly recommend this book and series.

I also loved the EDGE series. And just started the Bones and Cat books. Read only the first one so far.

Review: Near her home, Mercy is met by the mutilated ghost of her next-door neighbor, Anna, stating her husband has just killed her. When Mercy arrives at the scene she finds the body of Dennis, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. This makes the end of a truly bad day, with problems in her marriage, in the Pack and against her Pack and now in her neighborhood. Eventually all end up intertwining to form a complex plot with Mercy being the focal point.
The major monster focus this time is a creature escaped from Underhill who can bite and take over control of someone and get them to kill increasing its power, eventually causing the victims death. Truly horrifying scenes ensue. As usual a gripping story and a satisfying conclusion.

A wonderful continuation of the Dragon Kin saga. This was a very well written (as usual for this author) tale filled with humor, action and sexual tension. When the smexy times did come, they didn’t detract from the story at all.
I’m especially eager to find out what it is about the kids that’s got people coming after them… whatever it is I know it’ll be epic!

Review: Emma Lee Raines got hit on the head by a falling plastic Santa, and now finds herself haunted by the recently deceased Ruthie Sue Payne. Being part of a family run undertaking business gives her lots of potential for a murder mystery series. This first volume is cute, with an unliked ghost who kind of grows on you as you learn more about her. The Sheriff is a high school crush and an accepter of ghostly connections. My biggest problem in this one was the theme of Emma having “funeral trauma” a diagnosis given by a doctor for her episodes of talking to herself. It just felt phony. Stress or trauma fits but adding the funeral just didn’t work. Will read more in this series.

Review:
Eve Langlais is one of my fave authors for a reason: I’ve yet to read a book of hers that I didn’t like. And this one was no different.
It was pretty easy to fall into the plot and figuratively become a fly on the wall. I especially enjoyed the banter between Naomi, Javier and Ethan. Those three had me snickering through the whole book. Her family also brought out a few chuckles. I can imagine how wonderful but exasperating it could be to be surrounded by so many brothers you love and want to smack fire out of at the same time lol
A good start to the series. I’ll definitely be continuing this one.

Review:
"I'm not a psychic," I say to the makeup girl.
Sasha Urban is a mental illusionist who wants to leave her day job as a financial analyst to have a career in TV. Her first TV appearance goes very wrong as she learns that she can see the future.
I really wanted to like this book. The premise sounded interesting. However, it did not hold my interest and I found myself putting it down multiple times. I would have given up on it completely had I not been reading it for a challenge.
The first three quarters of the book were quite slow, and I often found myself wondering what the heck was going on. The characters were diverse but basically forgettable. I had to go back and read a couple of chapters after not reading it for several days. Things would get weird just when I thought I knew what was going on. I was beginning to cheer the zombies on and hoped they would get Sasha. Sigh... The ending had some promise but I will not be reading the next book to see where it leads. Such a shame since the idea of using stage magic with real magic had such an appeal to me.

Review: Megan is a deputy sheriff in NM and an empath. She feels the emotions of the people around her and the desert patrols keep her calm. However, trailing a suspicious SUV into a ravine leads her to bodies and makes her the target of 2 gunmen. Her rescue by a Lion Breed and subsequent questioning of one of the gunmen finds her the reason they were there. She was the true target. As a result, she needs to work with Braden, the Lion Breed, to find out why. Very erotic story mixed with a thriller. I’ve read several of this series but not in order. They have a predictable plot and are very sexy for when the mood is right.

I’ll try to get my review from last week up tomorrow. I finished it Sunday but didn’t get to the computer before the work week started. I’m counting down the days (1326) until retirement. Sixteen hour days in the OR are for the young.
