The doctor is happy to have me play with the dosage. I tried 1/2 tablet every other day, but the variation in the hoped-for pain relief was too extreme; now I'm trying 1/4 tablet every day. Seems to be working.

Legs still swollen - can't really tell if that part's a bit better or not. I'll give it a few weeks - the extra pain relief is very welcome.

My brain feels stuffed with cotton, though - hope that goes away. It's hard to write fiction with it in this condition.

On another front, my assistant transplanted our 5ft coffee plant from its small original container to a much bigger one. Have to give her credit - we talked about my suggestions, but she basically did the whole job herself. Poor thing was SO root-bound.

She will be here one more week, and then go home for summer vacation - I'll have to do my own stuff until mid-September. Not looking forward to it - she's a real gem.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep. My hospital app has been changed to the same time at an entirely different hospital, this ones isn't as easy to get to! Was contemplating how much earlier I'd need to leave to let work know, then at lunch i got a letter from Opthalmology saying that there is no evidence of typical glaucoma, there is a suggestion of a slight asymmetry of optical nerves, so got a 6 month check for thaf, reason for the app is my light sensitivity so rang to see if i could drive and they suggested not, so think i need the whole afternoon off. Stopped raining just long enough for me to get to shops, got something for tea and favourite reduced sandwich. What I'd bought my sis was on offer again, so bought it her again, I'll probably find the first one now!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, we had a staff conference this morning which was interesting but the chairs were uncomfortable so struggled a bit. Thinking of ringing physio next week, getting some odd sensations in my foot when its flat on the floor. Nipped to Aldi for a couple of nice bits for the weekend, then called at a chippy on way home and got salt and pepper chips, too spicy for me. Went to make a cup of tea and realised I was supposed to buy milk! Really must replace emergency milk.

message 1554: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think it's well worth ringing the physio

Also salt and pepper chips are a bit variable. My daughter has one place she'll get them because they're right for her, but never bothers anywhere else

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a lie in till nearly 8am! As i have no plans and weather was rubbish, we stayed in bed till nearly 10am, then just lounged for a bit playing games. Did 30 mins of housework, then went to shops and got a hot choc, not been there for a while, so nice to catch up. Got back and showered while lunch was cooking, got to 3pm and realised i forgot to buy milk so had to go back out! Been nice to relax

AFTER the appointment - or not at all? Seems rather cavalier to do such a big change in your life over the phone!

I never meant to stop driving when we moved to California - drove up until the last day in New Jersey - and I have now been since Aug. 2018 without a car. I hate it. But obviously didn't need it?

I used to hop in the car and do things - now I rarely leave my office. Need to work on that.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up about 6 on the other side of the bed, not done that for a while! Went to the loo, hot back to sleep till Lucy walked in screaming at me at 7.30. Then after medicating her and going to bed watching TV, i had to make her get up at 10.30! Was supposed to be dry, but started raining so did some chores, it dried up about 1pm, so managed to nip to the shops. Decided after tea that my ingrowing toenail was bothering me, so thought I'd try and fix it in case that was bothering my foot. However, I don't think you are supposed to cut it to the point of seeing blood, when I dabbed at it, i could see my nail bed! Unfortunately I hadn't got all the nail, so had to dig a bit more, then put Savlon on it, and used some micropore tape to cover it, will have to keep an eye on it, and we have an event tomorrow so more walking/ standing.

Just for the appointment Alicia, that hospital is a distance away so didn't want to drive to find out it would affect my tests.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, toe hasn't been too sore today. Legs don't like me after walking up two steep hills! Event was good, got some tips for my job and some freebies, though did seem quiet. Popped in Lidl for yogurts, then realised as i walked in i needed my prescription so didn't go round the entire shop, got to the chemist in time to get my prescription and Popped in Sainsbury's and got bargains.

Good thing you asked - would have been inconvenient to discover it after they dilated your eyes, or whatever, and you couldn't drive home PLUS had to go back and get the car!

I survived my annual cardiologist visit - excellent BP with no drugs - don't have to see her for another year. Nothing to worry about on the scans from last week. Glad to be done with those - I always worry they'll find something that will take a long time to fix. She even looked at my steps data from the Apple watch (nothing like your stellar numbers, Desley, but a lot for someone like me).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up early with cold feet, put some fluffy socks on, thought i changed alarms and got back to sleep, only to oversleep! Only by 20 mins fortunately. Got through a decent amount of work, nice day so got the washing out and have washed a blanket ready to put out in the morning. Went to shops but no bargains. Did some tidying ready for my sis coming tomorrow. A has put out the new summer scents, they have been really popular already!

Glad cardiologist app went well Alicia, and good you had some step data, its good to know how much you do when you don't feel you've done much

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Sunny today but thunderstorms possible later. Husband has all the medical attention not me so have ordered a BP monitor out of curiosity to see if mine is OK.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy had her booster this morning, didn't go too well, she has gone from 4.3kg to 3.6kg 🥹 vet agrees with my thought that it's likely her thyroid, we wouldn't be able to treat her for it though, so I'm not willing to put her through another blood test. She's happy in herself, bought her some posh food today to tempt her, and ordered a kidney diet and supplements. She seemed happy with the extra food/treats so far. Picked up my sis, she showed me some offers from company shop, so we went in, then popped to Asda Living for something else she wanted, called st Lidl for a salad each, had to take her fresh and frozen stuff back, so ended up only having 30 mins to clean which is disappointing, though fortunately I'd put another washload on before i left, so at lqast that got dry. We went to new cafe, got a cooler each, and had time to play 3 games of Uno before picking up my niece. Dropped them all off, did some washing up then went to shops and got sandwich filler and bread for £1.12 which will do lunch for next two days. An expensive day, but hopefully the bargains have offset the £60 I spent on food/supplements for Lucy. It did get up to £23, so not the best day for cleaning to be fair

I think a lot of chemists will offer a free blood pressure check. Might be worth getting one as a second opinion to make sure your monitor is OK? (and vice versa)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, apparently we've had some thunder today. Everything has been slow at work today, ironically i was the only one in the office and mine was the only one going slow! Just had a 10 min overlap at lunch to play word games with colleague. Got a message from Amazon that my parcel had been handed to resident, had no idea where that was going to end up, but fortunately on my doorstep! Didn't go for bargains tonight as had enough that needed eating. Gave Lucy a pouch of the new renal food, she woke up instantly and started eating before sitting up properly! She liked the tonic too, she should have 15ml, but started with 5ml just in case. Swapping her from 2 meals of wet and 1 dry to 3 wet with dry down all the time, plus treats, shes done OK today to say her breakfast was also something shes never had. Now that we have some renal wet, I've looked at other options on pets at home, need to check against zooplus, but looking like another £50 order tomorrow, good job I love her!

Carol Dobson | 626 comments A sunny morning so scuttled off to the coast on walk. Heavy rain yesterday; unblocked leaves in the drain with a long stick I keep by it for the purpose, but forgot the roof was cascading water from something blocked up there and managed to stand in what was basically a waterfall and became completely drenched in half a second!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, seemed to sleep OK but woke up with a headache. Set off 1 min later than yesterday, got to work early! My flexi is quite high because of the roadworks. Had a new laptop this morning, i ended up with a couple of things missing (annoyingly i kbew one was going to happen and he didn't listen), so had to speak to a different IT person. Got to have a brief lunch and word games with 2 colleagues. Got a few bargains after work and spent a fortune ordering various renal food from 2 sites, glad i got extra for my mileage now! She loves the tonic, licked the plate clean and seemed to be looking for more, so might up it to 10ml tomorrow, ordered her another 3 bottles (was cheaper than buying individually)

message 1571: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments good that you've found something she likes. It can be the biggest half of the battle

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep, about 5 hours! So had a lazy start to the day, went to the craft fair and food festival, stopped at the top of my street to chat to 2 neighbours, one of which has recently got a cat 18 months after losing theirs so happy for her. There were quite a few crafter friends there, including Marvin, so got plenty of cuddles and chats. Saw a few people i knew around the festival but didn't get the lunch i wanted, the queue was ridiculous all 3 times i went. Got a couple of bits though, weather was hit and miss. Not seen much of Lucy, she's been under the bed most of the day, hoping that is just the booster. She gobbled up all 10ml of the new supplement and some treats, hopefully at this rate i might be able to take her back in a month and she'll have put weight on.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, got woken up at 5ish with rain, then Lucy came for a cuddle at 6.30, had to get up at 7.30 when my back was screaming at me. We had a lazy start and even let Lucy eat breakfast on the bed. She's eaten well today and seen more of her, we watched some TV in bed this afternoon, tried brushing more of her matts out, i got teeth round my hand twice, but she didnt break the skin, she is much better than she used to be. Quite a relaxing day, done some chores, and when I went to shops, i took my book and sat at the canal reading, but despite it being a sunny day, it was really windy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept ok, and had a decent day at work. Got shown something new today, seems very daunting! Pets at home delivery was supposed to be ready today, but wasn't, so not getting that till Thu, though worked out as Amazon delivery came, so can drop off friend's milk on way home. Then as i was getting changed the zooplus order came, so we now have a wide variety of wet and dry renal food, gave her a 'hydration pouch' and 15ml of her supplement for tea, plus some of the new treats and biscuits, gobbled that up and has eaten about half a pouch of a 50g adult pouch too, just cut a couple of matts out of her. Hopefully by jotting down about her eating it'll help, though im hoping this continues enough that I'll be taking her to be weighed next month.

Jim | 21809 comments Yes it does seem pretty positive for her

Mind you for sheer determined enthusiasm, we went for a walk yesterday and a friend's dog finished the day with us in the cafe, and got a dog ice cream.
Nothing, but nothing, was going to be left inside that pot by the time he'd finished :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Labrador, by any chance?

Met a Russian Black Terrier yesterday (it's basically a daily dog parade down at the harbour). Now that's a big dog! Couldn't believe it when her owner told me she was a terrier - they were apparently bred by the Russian military in the 40s and 50s. She liked me (I'm not a dog person really) and kept coming up and leaning her not insubstantial weight against me.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, fairly quiet today, though more IT issue even with my new laptop. Had issues with a delivery, they had tried delivering on Sat, apparently 'business was closed' even though I was at home, this morning it said 'driveway/front door unaccessible', eventually got delivered this afternoon, i was worried as it was cans of pop and the bottom of the box was damp, but seems to be OK. Went to shops after work, Lucy needed more chicken. Opened one of her new bags of biscuits, she enjoyed those, along with her tonic and a soup. Colleague found an offer for 1 year of puzzles through Telegraph for £1, didn't need more, but too good to turn down, shared with other people i play word games with, one seemed very happy.

Ooh, the new cafe do dog ice cream, Lucy hasn't been impressed with my yoghurt choices, but might get her a dog ice and see what she thinks

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, more IT issues, seems the new laptop has been updating to the new version of Office so can only process so much! Went to shops after work, and popped in cafe to get some dog ice cream for Lucy, it tastes OK to me, but she seemed disappointed, but happily lapped up her supplement! She can have it up to 3 times a day, tempted to give her 5ml in the morning with her breakfast. She has had a bit of an upset tummy though, so might need to slow down on the new stuff (last bit coming tomorrow)

Ooh, look at you getting in the newspaper R! Well done

Thanks Carol! I use acrylics, which can be a challenge outdoors as they dry so quickly :)

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Hot and sunny again. Not many walkers on the Babbacombe Downs this morning and no one on Oddicombe beach far below.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy disturbed me at 5 drinking, she came for a cuddle then was sick at 5.20. Traffic was lovely this morning, so got to work early. Had probation meetings today, got extended by 3 months and an action plan. Had a nice lunch playing word games, had to go and get Lucy's delivery after work, which worked well, as they put 3 more lots of temporary traffic lights on my route home! Was only supposed to be picking up her order, but spent £10 in Pets at Home, then got her some cat milk from Asda. Nipped to Aldi, got a few bits including some chicken! Dropped off my friends delivery (and bought her some of the new vegan choc from Aldi) and had a chat. New multivitamins have arrived, but Lucy doesn't seem keen, hopefully the other two will! Was 27 when i left work!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, more roadworks this morning, car wanted petrol too, but still got to work 10 mins early, so not done a grear job of getting flexi down! Played word games with 2 colleagues at lunch, was good fun, then went and got iced raspberry matcha, one of the new summer drinks. Nipped to m and s after work, got a couple of treat foods, then Sainsbury's had a reduced salad. Lucy enjoyed her cat milk this morning, opened a new bottle of her tonic, these came with a measuring cap, makes it much easier! She hasn't bothered with it though

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was 21 when A picked me up at 8.15 am, its 9.05pm and phone showing its 25! Craft fair had had 50% cancellation last night, so was only 5 stalls, we got 2 tables as there was enough space. It was quiet again, but took more than last month, including the first sale of the new scented keyring. New summer scents launched today, i want 10 of them! I hadn't got round to getting cash, so A bought me cake. Done a couple of chores when I got home, did something i never do and put my washing out at 6pm for a couple of hours, its fairly dry! Didn't get any bargains, so decided to treat myself to a chippy tea, Lucy was happy.

Jim | 21809 comments Yesterday was interesting, it was Dave Day, and tens of thousands of motorbikes rode into Barrow, some coming from as far away as London. The M6 ground to a halt.

We had to get home along the M6, but delayed leaving by an hour and whilst there were holdups on the traffic warnings, by the time we got to them, they'd evaporated so we had a good trip :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy tried getting me up a couple of times this morning, but managed to ignore her, and slept till 8, which is a rarity. Lucy has been quieter today, she barely ate till about 3pm, but seems to have done OK since. Cooler today and windy, which was good for my washing, still very humid though, so decided against hoovering. Went to shops and got some reduced veg to make a curry for tea and tomorrow's lunch.

Dave day sounds interesting Jim!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments We got to see the newest member of our family via zoom: our son Tim, wife Savannah, and the baby, Sylvie (who autocorrect has already messed up to Sylvia). They're in Colorado, we're in California. I doubt I'll see her much in person - but digital is a lot better than when family had to wait until we sent pictures.

It had been a week, and we hadn't heard much in the way of details - they had to stay a couple of days for the baby, just in case, but everything is fine, and now they have to figure out how to get sleep, as she seems to be nocturnal.

Glad I'm not back in those days! First for both sides of the family, and a late baby already (we did the same thing to our parents, so we really can't complain, can we?).

Made for a long week, but the smiles are worth it.

Because it happens 'in town' and we're out of town, and also it happens along the A590 (and we're down along the coast) it hasn't really impinged on us. This year I noticed it because it was a moving traffic phenomena that we timed our journey to avoid :-)

Even out of town, we could here the concert in the town centre, if we went outside

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, forgot to mention yesterday that when i was pegging the washing out, something caught my eye, i have 2 'weeds' outside that have 7 caterpillars on, will have to watch where i walk. Lucy was a nightmare to get to bed last night, she drew blood! Then wanted to have cuddles. She's been more interested in food today. Work was hectic but felt like i achieved a lot. Had a meeting this afternoon, its kind of a review to see if you need anything to grow, or stay where you are, was very positive. Popped in Lidl on the way home for a special buy but they had sold out.

I have always appreciated that Zoom gave us free 40 min. video calls - very kind of them. I also have Facetime on my iPhone and Mac Air, so it is almost as good as being able to visit (especially for someone who is chronically ill as I am - travel is a nightmare).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, a lot cooler and quite wet today, Lucy has been brighter and screaming at me for food. Busy morning at work, then finished at 12.20 for my hospital app that i couldn't drive to. Got on the bus with one of my neighbours, had a bit of a wait for the second bus, and 20 mins before my app, got a call cancelling it and asking me not to attend! Jumped off the bus to come home and let work know, I'd got off at a shopping precint with a pet shop, so bought Lucy some more food, had a wait for the bus home so had a little wander round the shops before coming home. Ratty neighbour knocked on early evening, shes noticed more caterpillars, so we walked up the street, some of the yellow plants have loads, one had about 20 on and was stripped bare! No idea how much in total, i have 12!

Sorry Alicia, forgot to say congratulations

Not at all - thanks! It's just I didn't think we were getting grandchildren - and then they surprised us and their siblings a few months ago. I like that kind of surprises.

I don't get out much, so don't usually have much interesting stuff to share. If the researchers ever find a cure, I have a lot of catching up to do. Maybe even traveling, and seeing in person some of the wildlife walks you've written about. Meanwhile, there are photos and zoom.
