Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep, luckily not a bad day at work as my hips and knees dont like me. Went to Boots for some stronger painkillers and got the whole 'these are only for short term, so can't sell you any more!' Didn't get any bargains either.

Sorry to hear about the leaks Alicia, hope both get fixed soon

message 1402: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments The outside leak was fixed by a lovely man - but it took the better part of the day - and the toilet problem will be fixed in ten minutes later today when he drops by with the right replacement.

It's just unfortunate that it cost me my energy on two of the vacation days BUT I had a great talk with the workman, who came from Michoacán in Mexico originally. He commented on the current political situation after it was clear we are both on the same side of the line. I always ask, in certain situations, whether Spanish would be a better option (though his English was perfect). Gives me a chance to let my tongue muscles do some work.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rheumatology face to face appointment, blood tests were good, back was more sensitive than i expected, but he said i don't need a repeat MRI. Then had to shadow some training, my hips and knees still didn't like me after the first lot, they liked me even after the second, then got caught up in traffic. Had visits to install equipment this afternoon, didn't go too badly but need a couple more joint ones. So feel like i didn't do much work! Luckily, the walking helped so not as sore as i was. As we were going to the car, the coffee shop ladies were leaving, they stopped, wound the window down and asked if they were seeing me tomorrow as they haven't seen me this week

message 1404: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Given you like walking, the fact that it helps is a really positive thing
As is the fact that you've obviously made friends with the coffee shop ladies.

A hint as to why might be the fact you refer to them as 'the ladies' rather than just 'staff'.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, forgot to mention that yesterday there was someone on the training course who was on the same course i did on Mon, she asked if i live in x, i said yes, then she asked if i went to x high school, said yes. Turns out she was in the year above me and thought my name sounded familiar on Mon! Such a small world. Had a few urgent stuff and a tough call this afternoon, was on the phone 45 mins and she cried a few times, but did end the call asking how to provide feedback as I'd been so patient with her. Had someone from another team thanking me and saying she doesn't know what they'd do without me! Went to coffee shop at lunch, let someone go in front of me as she knew what she wanted, said that i don't always pick mine, i like them to pick for me and favourite barista said that i make her week when i go, i did tell her i was very touched yesterday, its definitely worth going to an independent shop. She said loads of people recognise her when shes out, and i said that's the sign of good customer service. Remembered again this morning that i needed shampoo, popped in b and m but they had none, then had to go to Iceland as ive created a chicken monster, Lucy was just sitting in front of the fridge and fought coming to bed last night as there was none left! Roadworks had gone, so a nice journey home, went to the shops, got my shampoo and decided to treat myself to some curly fries, Lucy was very excited about those too!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy started screaming for me to get up at 6.30am and wouldn't settle with cuddles, gave up at 7am. Had a craft fair at a venue we've done before, hoover discs didnt sell, but new scents were popular, was our best of the year by 50p. And i only came home with cake, bought a raffle ticket as i like to support whatever cause the venue is raising money for. A dropped me off at coop, started raining as i left and not sure its stopped raining yet, it is windy. Did a couple of chores but knee doesn't like me still.

message 1407: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It's still windy but this morning was worse

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was a bit confused when i woke up as forgot to change the alarm clock, but fitness tracker automatically changes, took a minute to realise why they were saying different times! Still windy, but dry at least, i had a lazy start so only got one washload done. Went to shops for milk, got something reduced for tea, nut nothing for lunch. Will probably get a meal deal from Boots, there are new nail varnishes so that'll be tempting!

message 1409: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Desley can resist everything but temptation :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was nice driving to work without roadworks. Was one of those Mondays where there was loads of urgent issues! Went to Boots for a sandwich and accidentally bought the nail varnishes. Had a frustrating probation review, they had a copy of my OH report that I haven't seen yet! Glad i got those nail varnishes to cheer me up. As i was getting out of my car, neighbour and fluffy dog were walking across the top of my street, so had a fuss and chat, then bumped into neighbour with anxious dog (though he was in the flat), had a nice chat with her, and she told me what chicken she gets for him, will try some for Lucy. Didn't do all that well with bargains though

I have self discipline for some things Jim, nail varnishes just don't seem to be one of them! Really need to buy a new stand

message 1411: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Perhaps you could limit your nail varnishes to so many per nail? :-)

To be fair there are worse vices than having a weakness for nail varnish :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, colleague was not impressed at how many emails there were this morning, i had a quick scan and there was over 30 yesterday, couldn't have done that between us, never mind on my own. Had IT issues, first i couldn't get on one of our systems so I rebooted, but then my account was disabled, so had to use my mobile to ring IT, manager had to authorise it, so lost a bit of time, so then couldn't do something i wanted to do. It had an issue mid morning too, thought I was going to have to go in the office. Got some washing pegged out at lunch, but neighbours lodger knocked om about 4 to tell me my line was broken, fortunately fry enough to look clean after a shake. Will have to buy a new one tomorrow, and my sis can help me put it up. Went to shops after work and got bargains, turns outoney off vouchers work on reductions!

Hmm, it would be a high number Jim, don't want to count but minimum 80. But yes, its not the worst vice.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Still recovering from 'vacation' - I love to hug my kids, but it is hard on the ol' brain to have to switch every single little detail of daily existence.

Should be better in a day or so - my assistant couldn't come today because SHE was exhausted - so I got several hours of resting time back.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, managed to get a lie in today. Picked my sis up, we went to cheap shop, got a pack of 3 washing lines and other stuff, got back to find out it was too short, so went to hardware store where first line came from and bought another one! That is longer than i need so we sorted it out and i had the sofa covers ready to go on it, we did need to tighten it after. Didn't do all that good a job at cleaning, she wanted to declutter part of the front room more. Took her to my favourite coffee shop, she enjoyed it, then we had enough time to get to Aldi so she could stock up on heavy stuff while she was in a car, then i nipped to home bargains as i needed beans. Picked up niece from school and dropped them off, then came home to read. A rang about 6pm, she had seen a group of red deer, so came and picked me up, we got there and were watching them (two were just gazing at us), then a caravan spooked them. There must have been at lesst 10 and quite a few males going off the antlers, amazing to see.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, seems that colleague had a busy day without me yesterday. She had some electric issues this morning and a dentist app this pm, so was on my own a bit. Numbers didnt look any better at the end of the day, not helped by an urgent issue at 4pm! On the plus side, the lady from Fri did send her feedback, which was lovely and has been copied into some managers who have all congratulated me, needed that after Mon!

message 1416: by Alicia (last edited Apr 04, 2025 12:57PM) (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments That is lovely, Desley - nice to have your hard work appreciated and commented on.

We continue to be appalled by news from government.

It is profoundly embarrassing to see allies treated as enemies.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, another hectic day at work with issues late in the day, our engineers both finished late and numbers creeping up. Went to coffee shop at lunch, they have a new spring menu, colleague picked iced dubai chocolate for me, I'd have gone amaretto mocha. Had to nip to Iceland after work to get more chicken for Lucy, but did forget milk. Candle shop opened new cafe today, they are opening 11-7, so got my prescription then went to see them, had a lovely chat, place looks lovely though a bit pricey. Got a Yorkshire Scoundrel, mix of scone and rock cake, still forgot milk, good job i have an emergency carton!

message 1418: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments iced dubai chocolate sounds fascinating :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, sunny but very windy today, had a lazy start, didn't have many chores to do, so did most of them, then went to take plastic to coop and treated myself to some nice crisps and yoghurt, so then chilled on the sofa eating and drinking after showering and washing my hair. I had put some washing out when i got back from shop, it had been out half an hour when neighbours lodger knocked on saying the line had come down, hopefully it was just the weight of towels with the wind, but there were 3 pale towels that were dirty, so they will need rewashing.

message 1420: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Surprisingly windy at times.
Went out with daughters for a meal which was nice :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, got woken up by the alarm again, was confused for a moment as i didn't think it was Mon, but then remembered I had a craft fair. Got to stroke neighbours dog on the way. Craft fair was quiet and didn't take enough to pay the table fee, but i got a card and present i needed, lots of dog cuddles and some noce conversations. They had iced coffee as a special, do i had an iced bailey's latte, the person serving me hadn't been told or shown them so was a bit surprised but she gets excited when i have bailey's in my coffee/choc! Didn't get cake as nothing appealed, so after checking coop for bargains popped in new cafe, got a blueberry cheesecake crumble, and they said they can do all their food to takeaway, so handy if i want to get something from there for tea, they've not done too badly for the first weekend, there were people already there when i got there and people csme in while I was there, so think opening later will be hood.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Still trying to find a combination of external factors: what I eat and when, meds, Diet Coke for the caffeine, blocking the internet - something that will make it reliable to get the brain on for a usable while.

No combination seems to work - I guess I just have to wait until I get lucky, it turns on, and then not waste it.

All you people out there with usable brains: enjoy them! Not knowing when you can count on yourself and for how long isn't fun. I have books to write - and that only happens when it's on.

Of course I had to watch some of the MANY marches everywhere here and abroad yesterday. Quite impressive numbers turned out.
Apologies to all other nations in the world, including the island with only penguin inhabitants.

message 1423: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments You have to keep a close eye on those Penguins :-)

message 1424: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I must try Baileys in my coffee at some point. I wonder if it works when coffee is served hot, or only with cold

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, didn't get on yesterday, was a busy day with lots of urgent stuff and colleague was off. Today was better, was out this afternoon installing equipment, went well and did well, the colleague who went with me to supervise didn't need to help, made a mistake on the first one but picked up on it and fixed it. He thinks im ok to do them on my own, so going to try booking two in for Fri, though it was nice having company/support. Spoke to the lady who gave me the compliment, she thanked me again and said whenever i need another review to let her know! Weather has been lovely, got more washing dried, line stayed up but sagged a bit. Went to shops after work, contemplated popping into new cafe, but they seemed to be sat in conversation, but did give me an enthusiastic wave. My eye isn't very comfortable though, hoping its just dry, but might ring to get to check

I have it in my bedroom decaf coffee Jim, just need to pour it over the back of a cold spoon to stop it curdling.

message 1426: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments get your eye checked, they're important.
I'll remember the technique with Baileys :-)

message 1427: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Agree on the eye, Desley. When I was a young adult, I scratched my cornea with my contact lens, driving back from Acapulco - and had to wake my mother to find an eye doctor in the middle of the night, it was such excruciating pain.

Impossible to repair, and you only get two.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, been a hectic week, glad it's over! Been lovely weather though. Was out shadowing one of our fitters today, the first visit had a friendly cat, the second had 3 friendly dogs, then we ate our lunch outside as it was sunny and they lived in a nice rural area. The first afternoon visit was the lady who gave me the feedback, she didn't realise it was me at first, but when she did, she was hugging me, crying, holding my hand, stroking my hand, colleague got a couple of comments too and think she is going to send another email. Went to the shops after work, no bargains so went to takeaway and got jacket potato with cheese and sweetcorn. Turns out one of my neighbours moved recently and only found out today when new people moved in, then was stroking cuddly dog, they are going back to Russia on Tue, will miss them.

message 1429: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I'm glad you met - you've helped many people.

message 1430: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think it is good that the company 'lets you out' to shadow the fitters
Firstly it means the fitters get to know you and that builds up links there. But also it means that for both you and the customers, you get to know people as people :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a random craft fair today, was really quiet, two of us went out at one point with leaflets. Was seeming like it wasnt worth going to again (first event there), then at 1pm we had some decent sales (1 person spent £25!) and one while we were packing up, so ended up being best fair of the year, none of our friends did well though. I got a Christmas present for C, a new ring and some choc chip shortbread, so cant complain. Popped to Aldi while A packed up to get something for tea, then did coop after.

message 1432: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think there are two main problems with craft fairs (and conventions for selling books). The organisers can want too much per table, far more than is justified by expected sales. (£100 is a figure I see quoted at conventions where they seem to expect wanna be writers to pay handsomely for the 'exposure'. A more realistic figure is probably £10 because the author has travel to cover and perhaps even accommodation. )
The other issue is that customers are almost random.

One thing that just struck me, can you take credit cards at your stall, or just cash?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy woke me up at 3, she was laid on my stomach cleaning herself! Apparently got back to sleep but still felt drained. Have done some chores, but not many, weather was better than forecast but a cold wind, got my washing dried though. Went to shops and decided to treat myself to a french vanilla latte from new cafe, was OK. Just realised i won a bottle of alcohol yesterday.

Jim, we pay between £10 and £25 (rare to go for ones over £20, unless it seems worth it), as our average so far has been around £30, though now with a couple of items at a higher price point (wax melts start at 50p), it is increasing, though our monthly one, which has been going 10 years and has a lot of regulars, doesn't always take enough to cover the £20 fee, but not just for us. We do take card payments, not sure what fee it takes for each transaction but we wouldn't take as much without it, though we do some fairs where it isnt used.

message 1434: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It has to be a labour of love doesn't it
I think card payment machine is starting to be essential now

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Couldn't do what I do without being able to take card payments. Most people don't carry cash now (or only a token amount) and my hut is a long way from the nearest cashpoint. Also as any seller knows, if someone leaves to "get the money" there's at least a 50% chance they won't return.

First rain in weeks here today! We've a fine run of sunny dry weather. Wouldn't stretch as far as "warm" yet.
And all the traffic is still going along my street. Emergency gas works have taken six weeks - due to be finished this week, hopefully!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, not as nice as it has been, but the forecast rain held off. Had a few meetings today, but did clear some of my bitty things. Went to b and m and Sainsbury's after work, went to put food in fridge and realised i forgot to buy chicken for Lucy, she's just going sitting in front of the fridge, she'll be disappointed.

message 1437: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments You should always buy what you like WHEN you see it.

That way, you won't regret not getting the green vase from Guadalajara 50 years ago - never found another like it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, weather turned today, wet and windy at times. Had a visit this morning, the bloke was a heavy smoker so needed to get changed when I got home and regretted washing my hair too! It was bouncing down when i left, and had forgot to buy milk so called in coop on way home, got the limited edition pizza i wanted to try reduced, so happy with that. Got through a decent amount of work too and looking forward to a long weekend.

message 1439: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes I picked up a full salmon side half price this morning. It's amazing the buzz these little wins give us :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, weather was better than forecast, and despite being on duty and having loads of cases, i cleared most of them and felt like I'd done really well. Went to coffee shop at lunch and tried the new amaretto mocha as an iced drink, a lot stronger than ehen it was hot. Went to m and s to see if they had anything nice, then Lidl for some bits over the weekend, then decided to see if coop had any reduced bread, which they did. Ratty neighbour is back, she intercepted my delivery, probably to have chance to chst, but she knocked just as id got on, Luckily Lucy came demanding food. So looking forward to the long weekend.

message 1441: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Good to get on top of things :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling drained, so had a lazy start. Planned to rest today and do chores tomorrow, but forecast tomorrow was worse, so have done a little bit today, been raining since about 2. Have only left the house to put the rubbish out, not bothered me actually.

message 1443: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It wasn't much of a day, and you were better off keeping off the roads.
Somebody was driving up to help me give a vaccine to some heifers, and they were bringing the vaccine. A trip which should take an hour and a half to three and a half hours because the M6 and then the roads off it which lead to the Southern lakes were just snarled solid. So we ended up dosing heifers in the rain :-)

message 1444: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Good Friday service this morning - and my alarm failed. I got up at 10:18, and barely made it downstairs by starting time, 10:30 (I'm usually there early).

Good service, well attended, and moving, as always.

The rest of the day has been meh - I guess the energy got used up in the quick start. But our resident who arranges these works very hard at it - puts out a schedule AND calls everyone the day before - so I'm glad I was able to move that fast.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up still feeling tired, but not as bad as yesterday. Did a decent amount of housework, then went to shops for bargains. Then got to chill for a bit, have done something to a muscle and feet are sore with limping.

Wow, thats ridiculous Jim! Sorry you overslept Alicia but glad you made it to the service.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a craft fair today, we did well, only £3 was on melts, the rest was on car air fresheners, we had one woman who decided that her kids could all have a car air freshener instead of an egg, her sale paid for the table! I got cake and fudge (shared the fudge), and got a cute handmade doorstop with a little mouse on it for the girls room, which Chanel has investigated. Got home and ratty neighbour had intercepted my parcel so had to collect it, then she got talking, including asking me to look after the rats next month! Think shes lonely already. Finished the book i started yesterday

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

message 1448: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments yes happy Easter
I wonder if your ratty neighbour's loneliness is anything to do with the rats? I'm somebody who can be sensitive to the smell of rodents generally

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, typical bank hol Mon weather today! Went out for breakfast with C, we went to a cafe at the lake we haven't been to as limited vegi lunch options (the cheese and onion pie is no longer vegi) but their breakfast options are good, we got there just at the right time, there were a couple of free tables, but while we were there they had to turn people away. Got to stroke a couple of dogs too. Managed a little walk along the front before the rain got too heavy. Nipped to Sainsbury's after, they had reduced hot cross buns to 90p and got something reduced for tomorrow's lunch. I'd gotten up a bit earlier to do a quick hoover of the front room before showering so just had a bit of washing up when i got home so time to chill.

I think its just because she likes chatting to people Jim

message 1450: by Jim (new)
