Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up to rain, stopped while i was going to the bus stop, but started while i was walking to the hospital and has barely stopped since, been pretty heavy at times. I got to the hospital early so had done some of the tests before my official app time - didn't get perfect on my eye test this time, but a well done (and today's woman had to move closer to check the bottom line too!). Was a waste of time though, no answers for my light sensitivity. He did put dilating drops in though, and took hours to clear, so wouldn't have been able to work. Got some stuff on the way home, then had a notification that my Amazon delivery was coming today and not tomorrow, so waited for that, then watched some TV in bed, before doing some tidying. Eyes still arent that comfortable

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up to the sound of rain, but fortunately didn't last and was able to get some washing done. Picked my sis up early so we could take some cardboard to the tip and go company shop, got some decent bargains, including more cat food. We didn't get all the cleaning done, partly because i forgot to wash the mop pad after mopping on Sat! Looks better than yesterday though. Went to cafe, had a cooler each and played a few games of Uno. My sis mentioned one of the local reservoirs was low, so we Picked the kids up from school and went to have a look, which was fun. Had to get petrol on the way home

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I’ve been busy, between cutting the overgrown plants in my new garden and emptying my old house plus several gym classes - currently I’m going to Zumba Mondays and Fridays, plus Circuits and Yoga also on Monday, a new Dance class on Wednesday and a stretch class on Thursday. Plus walking, though not as much while it has been so hot. I’m looking at getting some good walking boots and having a few days out, although I still have some cupboards and the loft to empty at the house.
It has finally gone on the market today.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, dry but overcast and muggy today. Work wasn't too bad and had a decent group of people for word games at lunch, though colleague who was WFH did better than 4 of us! They were setting up more roadworks when going to work, there was a lot of cars going home but moved quickly, though manager was out after work and messaged a while ago saying traffic wasn't bad so i had a warning for the morning. Forgot to say, was watching one of the caterpillars yesterday, it was fascinating watching it 'walk' up the stem. Two had a little tussle as well

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Walked to the Downs this morning. Still hot but I gather thunderstorms are forecast.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling drained and then traffic was bad, left at 7.37 and pulled up at 8.16. Bit of a stressful day trying to rearrange appointments to fit in urgent stuff but we managed it. Had 2 colleagues join at lunch for word games and added a new person to the WhatsApp group, up to 8 of us! Went a different way home and decided to pop in coop to check for reduced fruit, got some, so had that with baileys cream after my tea. Did the trays earlier and broke the bag bringing it downstairs, so glad we hadn't hoovered those on Wed, as I'll be doing that in the morning!

Startling - and a reminder to keep their house cat inside.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep, luckily my craft fair was an afternoon one. Got a washload done but not nice enough to peg out, and did a half hearted hoover of the stairs, so had time to relax. Went to chemist on way, they only sent 1 of the 2 items, so will have to ring GP on Mon. Craft fair went well, it was quiet, but did enough to pay the table fee and some profit. I had a go on the chocolate tombola and won 2 prizes, a prize on the normal tombola and a bottle of lemonade on the bottle tombola, plus cake, so a good day. Got a couple of bits from coop on way home. Lucy waa worrying today, she didn't get up before I left, and was back a while before she came down.

Wow, that must be a bit acary Alicia

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Re wild animals in the US and cats, my son in Connecticut has 2 house cats but he has bought a series of tunnels which go round 2 sides of the house and also has 2 little tents in it and so the cats can come outside in the tunnels but be safe from predators. The cats have been so excited doing this that they don't want to come inside and eat.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till Lucy woke me up at 6 got back to sleep till 8, but still felt drained, so only done the bare minimum today. Felt tired after lunch so thought I'd try a nap, typically it waa bed changing day and hadn't got round to making it, so had to sleep on the sofa, set an alarm for 1 hour and woke up 5 mins before the alarm, must have needed it, its rare for me to nap in the afternoon. Rained the majority of the day, so not left the house, been quite nice actually.

I dont make anything Carol, my friend does and I just go along, i enjoy chatting to people, stroking dogs and buying cake

The cats are safer when they don't roam free - a friend who moved to New Mexico had a spoiled cat used to doing as it pleased; it didn't come home one night, probably because of the coyotes!

I think once they're used to wandering, it is hard to retrain them to accept limited freedom, I imagine.

Daily napper here - and now I'm trying to get 1-2 hours' additional nap in the late evening; the only way I get enough total sleep is to start before the spouse - we enjoy watching something and commenting on it, but have gotten into the bad habit of doing that well after midnight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, left at 7.33 and pulled up at 7.48, so was at work for 8, even though roadworks were still there. Got through a decent amount of work, and had 3 colleagues join for word games, manager wandered up to see what we do at lunch. Popped to Aldi after work, walked over so i couldn't get too much, then popped to Sainsbury's for bargains, only got fruit. Lucy enjoyed her tea so much she got seconds, which has also nearly gone, bought her some turkey, see if she likes that. Rang docs, got my prescription sorted and nice receptionist is marking it as urgent.

Yes Alicia, its hard to take their freedom away, i think there were very few cats i fostered that had been stray/used to outdoors that i homed as indoor only

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Sounds like you're developing the mediaeval biphasic sleep pattern Alicia! With a first sleep, a wakeful break and then a second sleep.

We had the loudest thunder here yesterday followed by a brief monsoon-like downpour. Everything is cooler now - much more comfortable.

My daughter has got a kitten! So cute. She'll be an indoor cat but will get taken for walks on Arthur's Seat with a harness.

message 1670: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 626 comments It's very different having a cat in the US to here in Britain as there are so many predators there. The car probably poses the greatest danger here for a wandering cat.
I also find I need a set amount of sleep now that I am older and if I don't get it then I am nodding off all day as though I have jetlag. Very inconvenient.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a training course in a building I've nrver been to before, i wasn't sure about parking so went on the train so got to set off later, it was a 10 min walk from the station. Wasn't sure the course was worth it. Weather was too debatable to get the washing pegged out though. Went to shops after work, not much bargains. Think Lucy is preferring the cooler weather, she's not been sleeping under things as much

Aww, how sweet R

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep. Set off at 7.37 and pulled up at 7.48, however there was an issue where the roadworks had just been pulled down, there was a lot of water on that part of the toad - there were roadworks back by hometime, but still lots of surface water. Its colleagues birthday next week and she is off, so she brought in pastries for breakfast and someone baked a cake. Slightly less frustrating probation meeting. Went to Lidl after work for cat treats, had a text that my prescription was ready, so popped in chemist, there was a new girl struggling to find it, her colleague eventually came back with 2 inhalers, which i was happy about, however it was too early to order those so i hadn't, and no sign of my nasal apray, so going back tomorrow to see if they've found it, hope i don't have to ring again! I then went to Sainsbury's for milk and bargains but actually forgot to get milk till i was at the top of my street! Good job i have emergency milk in.

I read the last bit as 'Good job i have emergency milk to bath in.' :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Slept through till 5ish, then even though I didn't get back to sleep, i didn't want to get up when the alarm went off. Rubbish day at work, was trying to work out errors that were mainly 3 years old! Had a headache by end of day. Did get some washing pegged out, but forgot to pull the line down and neighbour had an Asda delivery, luckily another neighbour noticed and took it down for me. Had a nightmare at chemist though, took them ages to find my prescription then it wasn't made up, so had to wait for that. Then when he handed it over, he told me there was 2 items missing, one was the nasal spray i needed, and apparently he'd run out of them, so have to go back tomorrow. I rang doc when i got home to ask why i had prescriptions i hadn't ordered (and don't need!), seems the person who took my call ordered everything! Unfortunately I'm really sinusy as spray is practically empty.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till about 3ish, then struggled to get back to sleep, Lucy took advantage for cuddles. Risked setting off later, left at 7.47 and pulled up at 7.59. Was quiet in the office but got through a decent amount of work, found more historic issues. Rang chemist at lunch to make sure they had my prescription which they did. Actually had lunch by myself which was strange. Starting with toothache, so need to ring dentist. Went to coop after work and got some bargains for tea, plus my prescription.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, toothache got worse, had a bit of a rubbish night sleep, got up, fed the cats, and while drinking tea, felt tired so rather than ignore it, i laid back down and had a 1.5 hour nap! Couldn't get hold of my dentist, after having a drink, i walked round to try and see if open but they weren't. So came home and rang emergency dentist number, first woman couldn't help as system was down, so had to ring back, second woman could only get me one tomorrow afternoon, in a place 35 miles away! Google says 40 min drive, i took it and have contemplated all day whether i should just wait for my regular dentist on Mon, but checked a while ago for their opening hours and the consultation fee is higher than I've been quoted for tomorrow, so going to chance it, and taking sis and kids, she's really good at directions. I took advantage of being still helping pain to just do the essentials and have watched a lot of TV while catching up with games, then finished my book. Downside is i wanted to either go to lake to see cygnets or have breakfast

message 1677: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Hope you sort out your tooth, Desley. A 40 minute drive seems a long way to go when you are in pain.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up at 1.30 and 6.30 in pain, did Lucy's meds and fed everyone, watched a bit of TV then had a 45 min nap. Pain seemed worse this morning, did the trays but pretty much relaxed till i left at 12.30. Did get a call from the church we did a fair at last weekend, won a raffle prize which is being dropped off on Thu. We were looking on track till they shut the motorway at 1.30, then we lost time trying to find an alternative route, hit loads of roadworks so was 50 mins late and they refused to see me. Apparently they had rung everyone, and then she told me i should have given myself enough time, then she told me off for raising my voice! My sis mentioned about getting food, i was overdue painkillers by that point, so said we needed petrol to get home so she'd have yo get something from there, as sat nav was saying 1 hour to get home without the motorway. Got home, struggled to parallel park between neighbours, then neighbours lodger came over asking for help with his phone, told him to come back tomorrow, was not in the mood for that! So going to have to ring my dentist in the morning after all, might as well have just stayed at home, though sis was glad to get out.

message 1679: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 626 comments I was shocked to find someone in pain was treated so badly. Hopefully your own dentist will quickly be able to see you, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through and wasn't in as much pain, so asked dentist for an app tomorrow, got one at 11.55 tomorrow. They have started a new duversion for roadworks today, so set off at 7.30 again, got to work at 8, so going to try 7.45 on Wed. Coming home was a different matter, think thst took 45 mins, and that was just to Lidl! Had a frustrating start to the day but afternoon started better, one to one went well. Had a new person at lunch for word games which was nice, finished super quick then old colleague joined and we had a chat.

message 1682: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments What an odyssey! Hope it's sorted out soon - you can't function in that kind of pain.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a tickly cough that kept me up during the night and woke up feeling like I was starting with a cold. Went to the dentist, he did skme x rays and said that the filling had failed and there was an infection. Options were root canal and crown which could save the tooth for 10 years, or extraction which in the short term would be cheaper but with where it is, might need a denture ehich then was more expensive! So went with root canal, due to length of app, they couldn't get me in till beg Sept! Got a 5 day course of antibiotics, chemist had an hour wait so collected them after work, along with more painkillers and took 2! Had one of those days where i seemed to be busy, got interrupted loads, barely finished what I wanted to do and numbers were higher by the end of the day! Went to coop after work to get some ready made mash and had that with beans for tea. We seem to ge down to 3 caterpillars, but they've pretty much decimated the last plant, they dont seem to like my 'weeds' unfortunately.

I was told they could refuse to see you if you were a minute late Jim, but didn't care for her attitude, hence being told off for raising my voice!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through and tooth is less painful but cold is really setting in - there were times i was on the phone and was getting really croaky and feeling sick. Set off at 7.50, traffic wasn't too bad and got to work at 8.15, and coming home was much better. Had 3 colleagues join for word game lunch, it was really fun. And our pay rise has been agreed and back pay in August, that'll help pay for the dental work!

Jim | 21809 comments Gasser wrote: "NHS Dentist??? they still exist? where?"

We've several practices in South Cumbria, and I know they were advertising for extra patients last year

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was up about 2am with my tooth, didn't get extra sleep with WFH as Lucy again walked in my room at 6.20 and screamed at me! At least got some washing done, bit of a faffy day at work and felt rubbish towards end. Had to get milk after work, ratty neighbour collared me on way so had to chat with her and felt even worse after that! Feeling sick, not sure if its the infection, antibiotics, cold or a bit too much housework/activity!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5.30, then Lucy wanted cuddles but at least didn't scream at me. Saw on the way in that they were doing some more emergency works today and tomorrow, wish they'd close it for longer and fix it properly, those works were apparently fixed last Fri! I got to work fairly quickly. Bit of a full on day, felt sick at first, got a bit better after eating, though that is hard with how bunged up i am. Tooth is much better, still a bit tender and a bit still in roof of mouth. Had to go to retail park for Lucy's food, decided to get a couple of bits, nearly got a reduced sandwich but decided to treat myself to a Subway instead. Traffic was bad coming home though and couldn't get throat sweets at retail park so nipped to Sainsbury's, think i over did it though, feel rubbish.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments We were without water and AC most of the day - not easy. I didn't even TRY to think. They're still working on it, but the AC is back, so we won't cook while sleeping.

Won't take them for granted for a long time now - I do NOT do well while baking.

I know AC is less common in the UK, so people have developed tricks when it's hot (as we did when I was a kid and we vacationed in Acapulco - fans and cold drinks), but I have none. At least the refrigerator still worked!

message 1692: by Carol (new)

Sometimes it seems that's all that happens in a day - and I like to hear about other people's days.

We have a trickle of water, and the AC is working (really necessary) - I was a lump of hot clay yesterday, and can't think when it gets that hot inside, AND it makes it hard to sleep, so I don't even catch up on sleep.

We did get some of the fans out we bought when this happened last year, which helped exist, but not think. They actually canceled dinner in the dining rooms - no water to be able to cook during the day!

Oh, well. I get to try to write again, the contractors are working on removing the air trapped in the pipes, and there may be a shower in my future. On a Saturday. And Skilled Nursing does have water - so the community members stuck there right now are having their needs met. California is strict about that.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling rubbish and failed at a nap, so worked out important stuff and just did those. It was vegan friends birthday yesterday, posted some choc through her letterbox and as she lives near coop, took plastic and accidentally bought a trifle (wasn't going to have cake this weekend). Still got a cold, last day of antibiotics and tooth isn't 100%. Forgot to say yesterday, nearly got my drink for free, favourite person was distracted and i had to remind her to charge me! With how often i forget to get my loyalty card stsmped, i probably was owed a free drink, but too honest.

Oh no Alicia, at least the AC is working agajn, and hopefully they fix the water pipes soon

What are you writing, Alicia? I have stopped writing and it is the first time in 20 years that I am not being creative. Am thinking about taking up painting again but it needs space and creates clutter.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up about 4 with toothache, then Lucy came in screaming at 6.10 - had to get up at 6.30 for craft fair, felt rubbish but decided to go, thought getting out and seeing friends would distract me, which it did. Not a great turnout and didn't take table fee. I didn't spend much though, cake man kindly gave me £2 for the tombola (even though I didn't buy cake today), and i won a bottle of Asti (never drunk it, but will give it a go). Got some bargains on the way home

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up to rain and wind, not sure we got the full storm, but enough that i waited in the car for a bit! Still got a cold and tooth still a bit tender. Had some training on our phone system this morning to help on Fri, seems a bit daunting. Colleague isn't going to be happy with how high the numbers have got, but can't be helped. Was dry and warm by home tome, went to Sainsbury's for bargains after work and did well. Got home and there was a pigeon all fluffed up on my street, it had a blue band on one leg and green on the other, so guessed a racing pigeon but it wouldn't fly away from me, just walked around then under a car, so couldn't risk letting Lucy out. Put out some water and a bit of bread, Checked again at 8 and couldn't see it round, luckily Lucy is fast asleep and not bothered by staying in.
