Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through but felt shocking, didn't want to leave the house, but had to go for tests. Blood test was done quickly, was a bit surprised by her wanting my thyroid to be tested. I contemplated going to the walk in centre while at the hospital but A went about 8am and was waiting 2.5 hours, so i opted against it! Both said results should be end of the week. Glad i Popped to Asda, forgot they have a chemist so asked her advice, she said its looking well and on the way to healing, using hydrocortisone and arnica creams have helped it heal quickly. Didn't actually get much from Asda. I waa a bit worried about Lucy this morning, she seemed quiet, i gave her some dreamies, told her if she didn't eat them, she'd be going to the vet! When i came back down she'd eaten them, had a second lot, and has had biscuits, lik e lix, wet food and chicken, plus been outside a couple of times, so less worried. After some lunch, i spent the afternoon in bed watching TV, it was quite nice actually. Decided to pop to chinese chippy neighbour used to go to on way home from feeding sisters cats, disappointed i only had £5 on me, their vegi menu is much better, i just got chips and peas, peas were disappointing. Back is hurting again now, ready to lie in bed again. G messaged last night with a pic of a local reservoir and asked if I'd been, said it was the plan for tomorrow but not sure I'm well enough. Told her I'd had to go for tests and she asked if i was up for a walk today!

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Hopefully the blood test will be useful, Desley, and Lucy sounds as though she is much better.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling better, Lucy had an upset tummy and had some on her paws when i went to medicate her, so had to wash her paws forst, which she did not like! Fed sister's cats for last time and treated myself to a takeaway breakfast on the way home, then popped to coop, hot some bargains for tea and tomorrow's lunch. Did a couple of chores but also tried to rest, have finished my book. Lucy has had 4 lots of wet food and some dreamies, about to give her a 5th, she hasn't been eating as noisily (tried checking her mouth too!), not given her renal food yet. First washload dried quick so had put a second load on and decided to leave the line up as was going to peg them out first thing, was sat watching TV when heard the line break, neighbours friend hadn't seen the line across the street while reversing down! Been a bit breathless this evening, will monitor that

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I just had a horrible week with a kink in my left scapula region on my back - and then yesterday remembered an old trick from a PT person DECADES ago: she said, that for a similar back problem then, the solution is COLD. So got Amazon to deliver some cold packs yesterday, and am on my way to being able to sit in a chair again!

Apparently all our cold packs had leaked and been dumped years ago, because we couldn't find one anywhere in the apartment. They don't last forever.

Hope your back is better, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was up about 2am very warm, then again about 7am. Had a lazy start to the day, then gad to do the litter trays, needed a rest in between! Got up to 26 today, but couldn't enjoy it as was too hot anyway and still wary of ice-cream. Ratty neighbour came for a chat, started feeling lightheaded and sick while standing, so had to go for lie down. Temp doesn't seem to be coming down.

Carol Dobson | 626 comments You don't sound well, Desley. Hopefully it will soon pass.
Might a massage help. Alicia?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling rubbish so called in sick, which I didn't want to do as we are short staffed this week. Have done a couple of chores. Idiot neighbour annoyed me, he'd said on Sun he'd see if he had a spare hook so i could use a second washing line, he just decided to start drilling a hole in my wall at lunch with no warning, and he could see my car was there! Can't test it though, as i no longer have a spare line (and the one he put up on Sun wasn't great!). Must be feeling better, am bored! Ratty neighbour was going to shop and asked if i wanted anything, asked for a loaf of bread and she wouldn't take any money. We also had some rain today. Saw some videos of North Yorkshire fires, can't imagine that devastation

Carol Dobson | 626 comments A walk to the coast this morning in light drizzle. A high tide but the sea surprisingly calm as a swell was forecast.

Yes, maybe - but I've never had one, I'd have to get there or have someone come to us, and I can't bear being touched (my skin hurts).

When I learned that trick with the cold, I was driving to a local hospital three times a week for PT - don't even have a car now.

But I think it's improving with my home version - and I've found a couple positions I can sleep in.

It does make it hard to sit at my computer and write - hope I get rid of it soon.

I would love to be able to take the walks you and Desley manage!

Lacking in common sense; good intentions?

Really hope you're getting better - this doesn't sound good, fever and all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, rang in sick again, getting a bit bored now. Doc rang this morning, they needed to make sn appointment to discuss my liver function results, guessing as it's not till 12th, they aren't concerned and it was high on a rheumatology test and he told me everything was normal. I had to ask about the other results, she didn't know why I'd had tests and just told that was the only thing I needed to be seen for. Asked if my chest xrays had come back and she said not, to ring back tomorrow. Had a shower and washed my hair, needed a rest after that, and went to shops in car, took neighbour in case i felt funny, forgot she faffs a lot in shops. Needed a lie down after that and managed to forget two things, she's kindly popping to Sainsbury's tomorrow for one, but wasn't that desperate for eggs that I wanted to ask a vegan to buy them. We had more rain today.

Carol Dobson | 626 comments You don't sound right, Desley- do you think you have caught a virus on top of other ailments? I am still struggling a bit after catching a virus when daughter and grandchildren visited about 4 weeks ago. I am fortunate that my walk is flat and not hilly as Torquay where I live is extremely hilly, and in 15 minutes I can reach the coast.

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Do you think that writing on the computer might have been the cause, Alicia? I had a frozen shoulder many moons ago because of sitting trying to write an essay for long stretches of time. It has taken me a long time to be able to write straight off on the computer and have always written in long hand and then transferred it to the computer (very laborious!).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, window cleaner came this morning, so decided to pop to the cash machine and nip in Sainsbury's, then treat myself to a coffee. Also realised that i should probably check with rheumatology if they wanted the doc to get involved with liver function as they were already aware, left them a message. Ended up chatting to neighbour for a bit, then decided i should do Lucy's tray before getting dressed. Unfortunately i went very breathless doing that, so rang GP and they hot me in this pm. Got neighbour to put my bin out for me. Rheumatology rang just before I went to focs, apparently its only slightly elevated and they don't worry about that! On the plus side, it has come down since Dec and I'm due repeat bloods next month. Doc thinks my asthma flared up, chest x ray is back and was clear, so she thinks its looking positive and just need rest and fluids. Discussed blood test results so cancelled other app.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, rang in sick again, think it was a good call, did flag late pm. Did a half hearted hoover of the bedroom and did cough more after that. Ratty neighbour knocked on as she was going to shops and wondered if i wanted anything, said no as i hadn't got cash yesterday, then she kept talking for ages even though i was stood with only my nightie on! Before I'd gone out, she rang and asked if i could get her something from Sainsbury's, that was another long conversation. Had to ring her in Sainsbury's as they didn't have what she wanted, and she was chatting away about doing an online hearing test! So was dreading taking her stuff, she found more stuff to talk about! She has pretty much split up with her ex, so this might be more often! Lucy waa odd at tea time, she walked in the kitchen screaming, thought she wanted food but by the time I'd put food down, she'd pood on the floor, and when I came back down from sitting with the girls she'd done it again, just in a different part. Only consolation is she picked the kitchen which is lino and not my carpet! If it continues, I'll have to put a tray there, but couldn't leave it when the girls are out! One of those has been sick, not what I needed really! Lungs have been hurting a bit

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, typically as i could lie in, i woke up about 5.30 coughing and gave up trying to get back to sleep around 7am. Had a lazy day, went to coop about 11.30, then decided to go to coffee shop, got an iced vanilla matcha, toastie and cake, got a free syrup shot next time in their giveaway! Vegan Friend popped round, she bought me cake to cheer me up - for once, she bought vegetarian not vegan, feeds 6 so going to take that to work. Not felt too bad, though starting to get nasally again. No accidents from Lucy, she has been eating a lot though

I more or less spend the days sitting - can't walk, can't stand much. Have done so for years. I'm working out the kink/pinched nerve in my neck back little by little - I think I got it because it felt good to crack my neck when it started - and I just made it worse.

It's the computer, or the chair watching TV (has heat and massage, so that's a plus - but I don't do anything just sitting there).

My mental health needs my online and writing communities - I'm hoping to get well enough to use our heated therapy pool, but that involves a LOT of extra expenditure of energy to get there, do the pool, shower, and get back, and I'm trying to finish writing Pride's Children: LIMBO.

Little by little - but not very exciting!

We haven't had a speck of rain all summer - last year it was all atmospheric rivers and snow in the Rockies. Crazy weather.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up about 5.30 again but got back to sleep till about 7. Nothing of interest only left house to peg washing out (and had to dash to bring it back in, started raining earlier than forecast!), done a few chores and just relaxed, had quite a bit of rain. Keep forgetting to say, our Sainsbury's (which is a local, so not massive!), has Christmas food in already! Not noticed any in coop yet, which is a bigger. Feel like i should be able to go to work tomorrow, still coughing if i do too much.

They are saying this could be one of our hottest summers Alicia, reservoirs are really struggling. I don't feel it has been that hot this summer, but a long time with no rain

It would be wonderful to be able to use the pool, Alicia, but would obviously be quite difficult. However it is lovely that you have a pool there so hopefully at some point you will be able to use it. Technology gives us all a link with the outside world and is so vitally important. It is difficult to imagine a world now without it. Writing is also important as it keeps the mind active and gives a fulfilling purpose in life.

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Xmas food already in Sainsburys, Desley! Good heavens!
I believe reservoirs are quite full here in the South-West so we are fortunate. The recent rain has evidently caused most of the coves here to be polluted. It is shocking how polluted beaches and rivers have become. I have only swum in the sea once this year -I find the water here too cold so it has to be a really hot day to entice me in.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had one of those poor night sleep where you wake up a lot, but don't feel too bad. Had a back to work interview, got through a decent amount of work. Should have had a catch-up lunch with old colleagues, but old manager had to cancel at last minute. Popped into a new discount store that opened near work, would go back, sis wants me to take her when she gets paid. Then had to pop to Lidl for yoghurt, did forget i was low on milk though!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Woke up too early to find AC wasn't working - the fan was blowing room temperature air noisily and uselessly (moving air helps, but not with that noise level).

Front desk didn't know anything about it at 8 this morning, but I called again at noon and yes, a circuit somewhere went early today, and now staff is going around RESETTING every thermostat in 250 independent living apartments.

I told them we did it ourselves, but this is an irritant - the temperatures have been over 100°F all this week, and I'm useless when it gets hot inside.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a one to one this morning which went fine. Had lunch with old colleague, we went to the floor above which is brighter, was quite nice. Remembered to go to coop after work for milk and had to do Lucy's tray, no breathlessness this time, though lungs/back have been uncomfortable today.

Hope Jim's OK, not heard from him for a bit. I'm not a fan of online shopping Carol, though can see advantages when it comes to heavy items. Glad you got the AC sorted Alicia

message 1779: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 626 comments 100F is very difficult, Alicia. Glad the AC was sorted quickly.
Lacking energy at the moment so tottered round on very short walk. Raining again but warmer.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Jim's been posting on Facebook Desley.

We've had a day of almost non-stop rain. The first in months. It's been a really dry year so far. Arthur's Seat was on fire a couple of weeks back.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep and been headachy all day. Someone on my team is leaving, so we had lunch at Nandos, it was really good fun, sat with someone i don't really know and manager who is off sick came, was nice to see her. Then had 2 visits to install equipment, they didn't go too badly, but got stuck in traffic coming home. Popped to shops after work for fresh air and got some decent bargains. We've had rain again, quite heavy at the moment

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Had nine hours of sleep last night - it took about twelve hours, consisted of eight sleep segments and three included small meals - and I'm almost feeling human.

Struggling and non-refreshing sleep are part of ME/CFS, but I'm finding ways to manage getting back to sleep quickly each time I wake, and have some hope it will help me have a brain for at least a few hours daily.

Carol Dobson | 626 comments Sleep is so important, particularly as we get older even when we don't have an illness. I find if I miss a couple of hours I drop off in the day and then don't feel good. Raining heavily here in the night so had to get up to shut the window. A couple of hours later finally got to sleep. I read somewhere recently that the army has a special way to get soldiers to sleep as they need to be fit to fight in the field and so need to be able to sleep almost anywhere. (it didn't involve medication). I can't remember the details now but will see if I can look it up.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5.30, and no headache but felt a bit off. Was only in half a day, which i was glad of as we had more IT issues, it has been raised with senior management. Did some chores before my dentist appointment, he said my filling coming out helped, so was only there 1.5 hours! Went to shops on way home, watched a bit of TV in bed as back wasn't happy, then finished my book. Have had some pain since getting back, similar to what i had initially. Got to wait at least 2 weeks for next app.

Glad to see you are OK Jim. That sounds interesting Carol!

message 1786: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Hi Carol
I remember being told that the infantry can sleep anywhere and use anything as a pillow, but it helps if you've been busy for the last thirty six hours :-)

message 1787: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I'm living proof you can get your sleep in short chunks - last night it took me nine segments to get 8h 24min of total sleep.

In between there were three small meals, eyedrops for the spouse, a pain pill, bathroom trips, and me just putting myself back to bed, doing a short breathing exercise, and going back to sleep.

It's more than I usually get, so I'm almost human.

The key for me is not allowing this ridiculous way of life to stress me out - I just do it. I know the LAST segment is very important, and have the luxury of being able to keep going back to sleep (most days), but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't HAVE to live this way.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, temporary filling has pretty much all come out, so toothache has gone! Despite being short staffed, we had an easy day. Cough was back and back had been sore, hoping just from dentist yesterday. Popped in m and s after work, got some bargains, then had to drop off some cat food for my sis and got some choc as a thank you for feeding the cats. She was holding the oldest as i got there, who immediately climbed on my shoulder and went to sleep! Youngest came on my knee too, so got a pic with both of them, told them they both missed out while they were away, they could have had cuddles!

Thanks. And you're exactly right. If we have to do something when we're older, and we know how, we just do it and get on with whatever else we're trying to do. Calmly, serenely, and without too much of a fuss, which would only waste time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep and had to ge up at 6.30 for a craft fair. This is one we did last year, a church that has stalls as part of rushbearing, so the tables are over the edge of the pews, they are not designed to be sat on for hours! Back and knees do not like me. Didn't do as well as last year, not enough to cover the table fee, but we are going to give the Christmas fair a go. I did come back with 2 pairs of earrings, some cute book ones and some glow in the dark purple ghost earrings. Went to shops after work and got some bargains

message 1794: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Desley, Do you bring a support pillow along to these fairs? Carol Dobson | 626 comments Best to be as comfortable as possible or that can lead to ailments. Sometimes we walk to tennis courts and sit and watch the tennis on very hard benches. Am thinking of taking cushions, the problem being that I would have to carry them and it all makes a very little excursion somewhat more difficult.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5.10, got a bit more sleep before my 6.30 alarm. Medicated Lucy with no issues, but no sign that she had drank or used toilet overnight. Her appetite was fine, and i had syringed some water in her after her medication, but didn't leave till I'd got her to drink some water on her own. Was just finished setting up when our crafter friend who moved arrived, she'd travelled up for a different craft fair which got cancelled so thought she'd see if they had space for her, they put a table up, then someone rang our other crafter friend who should have been at the other fair, they found her space too, but she wasnt in the same room as us. There was a sweet stall that had things labelled as vegi/vegan, i stopped myself at 4 bags, hoping they will be back in Nov. We did make our table fee today, but overall, made £1 this weekend and only because someone overpaid us, or we'd be 50p down. One of the stallholders we are friendly with and buys from us is getting married in Nov, she has invited us to the evening reception, we have a fair that day but might go for an hour- its at the place ourmonthly fair is, so will end up there 3 weekends in a row! I didn't buy much, but a nail varnish brand that does interesting things like marble effect top coat had a sale, so bought a few, and enough to get a mystery free nail varnish! Went to shops after, no bargains. Lucy had eaten more food and drank some water while i was gone, not sure she's had a wee though, told her if nothing by morning, I'm ringing the vets. She's had wet and dry food, demanded chicken and helped eat my cake! Gave her painkillers this morning and she seems less wobbly

No, but great tip Alicia, I'll do that for next one, i get picked up for that fair as A has to drive my direction for it, so won't look odd walking round with a cushion!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, we went upstairs to watch TV in bed an within 5 mins, Lucy had had a wee, and i heard her eating and drinking a few times during the night, and had used toilet, so feeling happier. She's drank a decent amount while I've been at work and since I got home. Couple of urgent stuff at work and colleague had issues ringing people. Popped to Aldi after work for some special buys, not good enough date's to stock up. Think we have new cats in the neighbourhood, had the door open for Lucy and 2 different cats tried getting in! Very tired today

Did a bot of housework at lunch and after work, but doesn't feel enough. Went to shops after work for milk, no bargains. While doing Lucy's tray my finger felt painful, looked like a bruise on the joint, but palm side, is a bit swollen but not painful, have put some arnica on it.
