Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Had Lyft scheduled to take me to CVS because my assistant called in sick.

Right in the middle of the nap I always take before I go anywhere, the phone rings - my husband picks up (thank goodness!), and it's the pharmacy telling me that my Covid booster at CVS has been cancelled because they ran out of vaccines! So I barely managed to cancel the Lyft - and went back to bed.

A whole working day lost to getting ready for something I carefully scheduled in advance - but they didn't. The excuse? They had used up their supply over the weekend - when the CDC also claims it's having trouble getting us old folk to get the 2nd booster for the season.

Sigh. Total waste of time and planning.

Things happen. I can't even figure out what I'm mad at.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, manic day at work, e-mails were coming through quicker than we could deal with them, feel like I got through a lot, but still had over 20 e-mails more at the end of the day than we started with! Got home to my new driving licence, which I'm glad about. Went to both co-op and Sainsbury's after work bargain hunting, did well at both, though realised I still don't like the co-op vegan meatball marinara ready meal, even Lucy hasn't attempted the leftovers!

Sorry that you lost a day Alicia, and will still need to go through it again when they have vaccines in. I hate when you have an appointment for a vaccine and they use them earlier, surely they should keep enough back for booked appointments?

message 453: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes you would have thought they would have allocated the vaccine to the appointments

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up at 3am and struggled to get back to sleep (yesterday was 2.30!), despite being really busy, have only got 4 e-mails less than we had when I logged on this morning, even worked a bit late too. And my part time colleague doesn't work Thu/Fri, so only 2 of us to get through them the next two days, maybe I shouldn't have told big manager that we would be fine in our meeting this pm! One of the things we sent out last week was a survey, and we are able to do them online for people struggling, I've done two with people today, both were really happy and gave nice compliments I was able to share with the team/management, then big manager thanked us all for our hard work, and that things like these compliments show that it is well received, so that was quite nice. Had a call from the solicitor today, but I ignored it as I didn't recognise the number, seems the delay is that they have accepted liability, but disputing one part of the cost, but then the e-mail I received seems to show I have to pay £59 for something, I need to find out if I'm going to get that back as well as my excess. Was raining hard this morning, but cleared up late pm, so went to the shops after work, had to chuckle in Sainsbury's, they had reduced some Muller Corners from £1 to 79p (still expensive for that time of day), but walked round the corner to see they were on offer for 60p, I know which one seems the better deal!

message 455: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I tend to pick up Muller Corners when they're reduced that much as well :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, busy day, but luckily not much more new stuff in, so the e-mails are down a decent amount, I did spend 5 mins getting rid of some that weren't urgent but they only took a minute each, so got the numbers down. Solicitors rang again today, the £59 has been paid by insurers, they are disputing £325 collection/delivery charge, as they feel my car was roadworthy enough to drive, the solicitor has spent 2 weeks trying to convince them to back down, as it isn't cost effective to go to court, but they have refused, she is hoping that the judge will just dismiss it once it is filed, I hope so too! Decided to check for bargains after that, but realised at the top of the street it was spitting, so went to Sainsburys but came back empty handed.

message 457: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments But if you drive a car in a bad condition, you can get a ticket!

Hope your solicitor gets you satisfaction.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up at 1.15 coughing, didn't get back to sleep till at least 3. Another busy day, was quite annoyed at my colleague, felt like I was left doing the majority of the work! Higher number of e-mails when I finished than we started with, despite working late again. Did get thanks from big manager for all my work this week though, she was aware a lot has been put on me. Went to Aldi after work to get the new limited edition Pina Colada Bailey's, barely made it there, had to cross a road, lights were on red, everyone seemed to have stopped, 4 of us got halfway across the road when a car went through, narrowly missing us! Got the Bailey's, they had some nice sounding ready mixed cocktails, had to remember I was walking back up the hill, but I will go back to get some of those. Got home and decided I didn't want to cook, so went to the other chippy that is walking distance, and got cheese and onion pie. A has just messaged and asked me if I want to go for a walk on Sun, still can't get over how much time she is willing to spend with me, given we never really got on when we were younger.

True, though it was only dented at the back, it was driveable.

message 459: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments If you had driven it, they might have said you had damaged it further - and refused to pay.

You have a hard time knowing what to do with these occasions. Not driving it seems eminently sensible.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, briefly woke up at 4, first time I go back to sleep quickly, then Lucy walked in my room at 5.10, screamed at me, then jumped on me and padded my bladder - she looked very happy with herself when she trotted in the bathroom with me! I tried getting back to sleep, but gave up around 6am. Weather has been mad today, alternating between blue skies, wind and hailstone, with heavy wind at times! Luckily I wanted to do some chores, so have only left the house to put the rubbish out.

it was driveable, I drove it till the appointment, then to the collection point, just seems ridiculous they are willing to go to court for £325!

message 461: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I hope the judge tells them so, too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, I woke Lucy up today! In a complete contrast to yesterday, we've just had blue sky and sun, which was good as I did my Sunday chores, then went for a walk with A and her sister to where her ancestors grew up (maybe great grandparents), they lived near one of the reservoirs, when it was still a village, they were the last to leave the moors and there is still some ruins and a plaque there, it was interesting and really tranquil, it's completely off the beaten track, will definitely go there again, don't normally hit my step count going round that reservoir, but walking partway then over the hills was over 8k steps. Then we went to co-op on the way back. Have done Easter/mini egg themed nails, will post a pic next weekend. Better start easter wax melts this week.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Sounds like a lovely walk.

message 464: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It does sound like a nice walk

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, had a rubbish night sleep, so been tired and headachy all day, which wasn't good, as it was a busy day with some awkward things. On the plus side, despite there being 3 of us working on the e-mails, we only ended the day with 4 less than we started, so made me feel better about not being able to get it down much by myself last week. As my boss said, you clear 5 and 10 come in! My nails went down well though. Worked late again, though part of that was a chat with my manager. Nipped into M & S, but no reduced food, then had to get cat litter from B & M, still not the one I normally buy, but they had a new one on offer, so have got that, and it was cheaper, so hope it will be good. Then decided to see if Sainsbury's had anything for tea/lunch, got a reduced quiche, was 69p, pulled 80p out of my purse and stood staring trying to work out how much it was, and how much I needed to hand over, my brain was so frazzled by then.

message 466: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Sounds like you're doing a lot - it's hard to start a day like that without adequate rest, too.

Hope the quiche was tasty!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another rubbish night sleep, got in the car and realised traffic was bad even for a Tue, and some of the schools have finished, radio said there were roadworks, but they certainly weren't there last night! Just got to the roadworks when had to pull over for an ambulance, then got to the fire station and had to pull over for a fire engine! Took about 45 mins to get to work and only live 5 miles away! We had our monthly team meeting this morning, wasn't as quick as hoped, but a bit jovial in places. More urgent stuff came in, so didn't get that far through my to do list, and more awkward stuff that will need follow ups, really should stop feeling that I need to deal with the awkward stuff as I'm a higher grade than my other colleagues. At least the coffee shop had a new syrup to try. Finished late again too, got home and realised I was supposed to go and pick up Lucy's medication, she poss has enough till next week, but don't want to risk it with the bank hol weekend, will have to go tomorrow instead, just wanted to do it while in the car. Got home, struggled to park due to being tired, so neighbour came out apologising that she was parked further forward, but her ex lodger was visiting, he passed his test 4 weeks ago, sure she was just bragging about him having a posh car, I was polite, but didn't really care. Then had to go to ratty neighbours to be shown what's what, I know she is away for nearly a week, but the amount of options she gave me to feed them, not sure how much they'll get.

no, quiche was bland, but only cost 69p and got two meals from it.

Jim | 21809 comments It's amazing how, when a drive to work or somewhere starts going wrong, it never seems to recover but stuff just escalates. Hope today goes more smoothly and don't forget the medicine :-)

message 469: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments 'Posh car' always makes me think of someone who now has to be afraid of the tiniest (and large) scratches of daily living - it's what we call an 'attractive nuisance.'

People aren't thrilled by those who not only HAVE a lot of money, but flaunt it - the cost of a Ferrari or Rolls Royce could be used for many other purposes.

I would avoid damaging someone else's car - but not everyone is careful.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, managed to sleep through till 5.15am, which was nice, so felt fairly human, not much new/urgent stuff came in, so have got through quite a bit, though to be fair, not much resolved, a lot of it was asking people if they could do what I asked them to do last week! Feel better about workload anyway, though have just remembered that there are things on my to do list from two weeks ago that haven't been done. Had a minor panic when I went to join our weekly meeting at 4pm, noticed that I hadn't seen my reminder to send my timesheet, it had to be done early this week. Big manager briefly joined, and did thank us for our hard work with the increased workload while down a person. Had to work late again, then as I was getting ready to go to the vets, it started thundering and we had hailstone, went anyway, turned to rain, then halfway to the vets changed to snow! By the time I got to Lidl, it was blue skies! Struggled to get in the tupperware container ratty neighbour had left the rats food in, was wondering what I was going to do, but got in just as I was about to give up. Treated myself to a mushy pea fritter from the chippy, was very nice, they also do a small fish/chips/side deal, and it is slightly cheaper than the other chippy, though they don't take card. Checked my payslips a bit ago, messaged my manager to say it seemed to have been accepted in time, she said she hadn't had chance to say a massive thank you for all my hard work, I've been brilliant and couldn't have done it without me, which was really nice and appreciated.

message 471: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Appreciation is appreciated - how lovely to get it. Being called brilliant is a nice extra. Congratulations on the results of all your hard work.

message 472: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think it's good the way they do appreciate you and thank you.
As for the weather, rain, hail, snow and blue skies, it's March :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments 'Febrero loco, marzo otro poco.'

February is crazy, March even a bit more.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up at 5.10 with a headache that hasn't really cleared. Had an urgent thing to do first thing, then nothing urgent had come in, so thought I was going to do really well and get the e-mails under 70, until 11.30, when I then spent hours dealing with finance queries that I really didn't have time to be doing, nor much I could do other than apologise and send e-mails for someone to resolve them. There were 4 things I really wanted to clear ahead of the bank holiday, I did it, but did have to work till 5.30, and had only had a short lunch. Amazon brought me a parcel today, it said they had posted it through my letterbox, turned out they'd posted it through ratty neighbours letterbox, good job she hadn't gone away and didn't need me to go in! Then after work manager sent us a message saying the colleague whose been off sick and now back has a new job, he is leaving next Fri, but sure he is off Wed and Thu though. Hoping the uncertainty of moving the department means they don't advertise his job, and we can just carry on as we are.

Yes, it's really nice being appreciated, my colleague who is off often tells me I'm wonderful. It certainly has been crazy weather wise.

message 475: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I hate headaches - can't think.

Good job!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, slept through till 6.10 and must have slept deeply, my back was stiff. Glad I woke up then, as Lucy walked in at 6.30 screaming at me. Started with a headache about 10am, but tried out my new headphones and seemed to get more housework done. Then met vegan friend for a walk and for her to collect her milk after, it tried raining as I met her, but then it passed, and needed sunglasses, bumped into a couple of people I knew, including Geoff the tortoise and his owner. As she was leaving, G rang asking if I wanted to go out, but just wanted to eat and finish my housework while I had some inclination! Have chilled a bit, and finished a book.

message 477: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments 'Finished a book' - the luxury!

Nice to hear about Geoff again.

message 478: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I loved the phrase, " finish my housework while I had some inclination! "

A life is a terrible thing to waste on housework :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up at 5.10, as I keep waking up around that time, I am wondering if that is just my body deciding that is the right amount of sleep, even though I often wake up tired/headachy, but then I rarely wake up feeling refreshed - think I might stop fighting waking up earlier than I need to, and just treat it as extra TV time. Me and C had our monthly trip out, we went for breakfast at the place we went to at Christmas, and had cheesy scrambled eggs again, they are lovely. Then we went to local market town as it was supposed to be a food market, was a bit disappointing, but got a nice dress and jumper from a charity shop for £6, so happy about that. We had a nice time and catch up anyway.

Yeah, I think I need to look for a new cleaner!

message 481: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes, Happy Easter

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Happy Easter everyone. Woke up at 6.10 this morning, and despite what I said yesterday, because of the clock change I was confused to what time it really was, so laid with my eyes closed till my 7am alarm went off on a device I knew had the right time! Craft fair at a new venue today, some of the stallholders I spoke to who have been before said it was quite, but we just about took enough to make profit (£3.50 worth! Though since we've got home, A has sold the last 14 hot cross bun melts and 6 of the snap bars to 2 regular customers) - she had more new scents today, seems I need a box of 20 melts, and the new fruit bag. I had a go on the tombola which was mainly chocolate and alcohol, said I'd be happy with either option, and won a litre bottle of Bacardi - not sure I like Bacardi, but for £1, I'll give it a go, and know people who I can give it to if I don't like it! Got presents for C and G, came home with some nice lemon drizzle cake and got free chocolate and bread, so quite a good day really.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, wet and miserable bank holiday, so we had a lazy start to the day, then the rain turned to drizzle just after I'd had lunch, so went to the shops, no decent bargains though. Got home and decided to watch a film (my plan was one a month, first one I've watched this year!).

Got round to reading MT's blog post earlier, rather worried about her.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Hard to write when you're not feeling well for whatever reason. We need all our 'wits' about us, lined up and giving advice. Or better still, arguing back.

message 485: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It was a wet bank holiday. Watching the traffic on the various websites the traffic was leaving the lakes and getting bogged down on the M6 from before 11am

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another rubbish day at work dealing with finance queries and not getting caught up on much, worked a bit late just to get the e-mails back under 100 ready for more to come in! Not fully staffed again now either. My headphones weren't that good at work, although the range is really good. Confused the staff in the coffee shop till she remembered it was Tue, I also remembered I have a loyalty card, she gave me 3 stamps rather than 1, which was nice of her. Went to M & S after work, they had reduced some of the hot cross buns, but they had sold out, then decided to pop to co-op to see what they had, got 2 lots of hot cross buns, plus some nice seeded bread rolls reduced, so that is breakfast sorted for a while, I even bought normal hot cross buns. Sinuses aren't great today, but at least the forecast rain didn't happen.

That is true Alicia, just hope she has seen we are thinking of her.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I'm sure she has - she is very good about keeping up with comments and readers.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep, and wet and miserable for most of the day. However, we didn't get quite as many phone calls/e-mails, so actually got some stuff off my to do list and got the e-mails down to 70 (we were at 98 when I finished last night), which is good as we are down on staff the next two days, at some point on Fri I will be completely on my own, maybe for two hours. Rain stopped by hometime, so went to check for bargains and picked up my prescription, which I'm not impressed with - I normally get a steroid nasal spray, it's unavailable and the alternative from the doctor is a hayfever spray, so not sure it will be strong enough.

message 489: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It was a miserable wet morning here as well.

Has the nasal spray been taken off the list or is it just unavailable? Somebody said they were tightening up on steroids?

message 490: by Desley (Cat fosterer) (last edited Apr 04, 2024 01:12PM) (new)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, even though the number of e-mails is barely less than yesterday, despite clearing loads, I do feel a bit more on top of things, and just hoping the colleague who is leaving does what he's been asked rather than what he likes to do. I did cry just after lunch though, I've been trying to get something sorted for someone, and when I got hold of her, she told me her dad died yesterday, hope I managed to end the call sounding professional at least! Feet have been really sore today, hopefully it's just the change in footwear with the weather improving. Was dry till about 6ish, so nipped to the shops at lunch. A messaged earlier, one of the people who bought 3 melts from us on Sun loved them so much she's just ordered a box of 15! And lives nearby, so easy to pop through her letterbox, hopefully she'll be another regular.

Seemingly just unavailable, I know a couple of other people on them and they have had issues too, though one said it has happened before, so wonder if it's the same supplier as Lucy's medication!

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Hi all. Hope you're all well!

Just returned from Cambodia. Very beautiful country and incredibly wonderful people. Unfortunately I got more than a little churned over by the sun whilst I was there (mad dogs, English fools etc) but at least the scars from the burns will be a reminder of a fine time had!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, luckily today was a nice Friday, and even though lots of calls and e-mails, I felt like the urgent stuff got done, and I got some of the less urgent stuff cleared from before Easter, even if I did end up working late again. At least I was only expected to keep on top of urgent stuff coming in, and got the manager who was looking after me ending the day by telling me I was a superstar. Was quite wet and windy at lunch, so didn't go to the coffee shop, but was just windy after work, so went to check for bargains, then got rice, chips and curry sauce for tea from the chippy, will get it again, even though it wasn't as nice as when I was a child!

I think that might be why the housework has suffered this week Alicia, too much extra work! Glad you had a good time in Cambodia Stuart, shame you've got so badly sunburned.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Lovely to read your posts again, Desley. Really enjoy them.

Funny what you say about the curry and chips not being like you remember as a child. For years, I swore that the best meal I ever ate was burger and chips at Hampton Court Palace when I was on a school trip at about thirteen. Me and my mate sneaked away from the group and went to the restaurant/cafe and almost missed the coach back to Romford. Got the cane for our mischief, as I recall. Maybe it was the sense of adventure and quaint rebellion that imbued that burger and chips with such fond culinary memories. Or perhaps it was indeed the greatest meal ever? Who knows?

Off to Woking this afternoon for football. It's not Angkor Wat, but I'll love it all the same!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up ridiculously early again, so had a nice lazy start to the day. Got a pass for the cheap shop I used to go to with neighbour that is membership only, so decided to go over, I needed to take some stuff to the tip, so did that first (and had to queue to get in the tip!), got petrol, went to cheap shop, it's hit and miss, and got some decent stuff for not much money, called in Aldi as had to drive past it to get home, and got a few bits. It was just slightly windy when I got home, so had contemplated going back out again (car said 16!), but after I'd had something to eat and drink, the wind had really got up, so put my daytime PJ's on and sat on the sofa with Lucy for a bit, then did a bit of housework. Rain started about 7, not sure when it is going to stop, but has got heavier.

Glad you like my posts Stuart. I suspect it might be the rebellion that makes you think of that meal so well! Hope you enjoyed the football.

Was pretty windy at Woking, too, yesterday. Got a day of sorting loads of stuff out before return to work tomorrow. Got some fantastic jump blues tunes up loud to see me through the day!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Hello peps. I apologise for my looooooonng absence. I have been so, so sick. I'm 16lbs lighter than I was 4 weeks ago and basically Montezuma has been avenging himself on my innards for 4 fucking weeks. Jeez. I had my second normal trip to the bathroom today. Who knew doing a solid shit could be such a thing of joy! Sorry I've blogged about it because I'm vile like that and it makes me feel better! Mwahahahrgh! I also managed to polish up and send in a short story for a humorous sci fi anthology. The only problem is it's not really that funny. Oh well.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Much appreciated.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, bad night sleep, Lucy woke me at 11.30am, struggled to get back to sleep due to the weather, just dropping off when a neighbour decided 1am was a good time to put glass in one of the bins! Struggled to get back to sleep due to the weather, then woke up about 6am. Had our monthly craft fair, there seemed to be plenty of people around, but we didn't take enough to cover the stall fee, despite my £8.50 purchase, cake man is poorly in hospital so no cake. Did come home with a bracelet and pair of earrings instead. Spoke to a few of the stallholders we are friendly with, and none did well, some even worse than us.

Sorry the football was disappointing Stuart, good luck with work tomorrow. So pleased to see you MT, was worried when I read last weeks blog post, only glanced at today's, but the glance seemed to show you were on the mend, which I'm relieved about x
