Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another day where it went from blue sky to rain in the blink of an eye! Had a lazy morning, then had errands, or doubt I'd have left the house. Got my new glasses, love the colour, but they can only be used for reading (and ironically, the only thing I struggle reading is the digital TV guide, but can't use them for that!), and I only need to wear my glasses for light sensitivity, so won't get used much! Trying them then putting my old ones on made me realise how loose my old ones were, commented on it, she immediately took them and fixed them, so when I got asked to do a review, I was happy to. Then went to Vodafone, nearly got a new phone, but when I tried to order through the app last month, it was stuck there and he couldn't cancel it, so had to put a request through, which will take up to 72 hours, so unless I fancy going in on Sat, I'm not getting it till next Mon! He was trying to offer me broadband too, must look up when my contract is up, as think that was £6 a month less. And gives me chance to get a new case for it. Had a little mooch, but town centre is dire these days. Got home with a little motivation, so have done some housework, things are slowly getting there

Sorry Alicia, should have just put treats! At least now I know I don't like it Jim, always like to try new things.

I'm happy to learn. It makes me feel like I have a cozy spot watching one of my first loves, UK writing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another day of mixed blue skies and rain, got fairly lucky walking to and from work, though didn't do as well with food, which combined with Lucy waking me up at 4.30 and not really getting back to sleep made it feel a hard day. Plus it's the day after a long weekend, we did better than expected with emergencies, but worse with ridiculous phone calls that took time away from what we needed to do, made worse as there was very few of us in. And had some really tricky things, just to make it worse, as we are short staffed. Hoping for a better day tomorrow, or colleague to have a better day, so we can clear as much as possible as I will then be on my own for 2 days. Went to the coffee shop at lunch and decided fairly quickly, one of the girls was sat down doing something on the laptop and actually turned round when she realised how quickly I'd ordered and commented on it! Decided as I'd had a rubbish day at work, I would see if there was anything nice in M and S, got some stuff that went in the microwave, wasn't too bad actually, got some boxed flavoured noodles that only take 1 min, will get some more of those for a quick tea. Did see a meme that resonated a lot, without typing it all, it's basically if you can't do everything, just do a small bit, 1% is better than 0%.

William Cooper Yes indeed Desley. The little things can add up. :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another miserable day, so haven't left the house today. Luckily nothing urgent came in, and colleague said she got through a lot of paperwork, and I did some during a meeting while they were talking about boring things, so hopefully in a good position to be by myself for the rest of the week.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, a bad night sleep, then woke up before my alarm! Day didn't start off too bad, till about 9.30, then it went very quickly downhill, me and manager had to try and deal with something tricky that neither of us knew much about, and the two people who do are both on holiday! Hopefully we muddled through enough. Pretty much everything I had to deal with today was messy and awkward and required asking people questions, which isn't good when you feel tired and headachy. Then had to work nearly an hour late to get tricky task finished. At least manager knew what I'd been dealing with today and why not much of anything else got done, am hoping for a better day tomorrow so I can blitz through things and maybe finish a couple of things I wanted to do last week (luckily not urgent). At least the weather was better today, didn't get out at lunch, but did go to the shops after work, and there was enough space in neighbours bins to get rid of most of my cardboard recycling ready for bin day tomorrow.

Jim | 21809 comments It does sound like a tough day. But as you said, at least the manager knew why

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5.30, so felt a lot more human today, and a nice sunny day. Didn't have many urgent things come in, so managed to get the e-mails from 87 down to 69, plus look at something I wanted to do last Fri. Did warn my manager that I can't guarantee I didn't forget something yesterday, which she understood. She did thank me and said she couldn't have got through yesterday without me, which is nice. Went to the coffee shop at lunch, wasn't sure if I wanted a hot drink, the new bloke convinced me to try an iced latte, with very little ice, then I thought I'd go quite plain and have vanilla syrup, he sold me on French Vanilla (can't remember how he described the difference), but it was really nice and now need to try it in a normal latte. Will have iced again though. Went the long way to co-op after work, only saw 2 goslings. Foot was bad though, was really painful on the way home and then was giving way a bit when I went upstairs to feed the cats. Seems to be better after resting.

message 660: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Sorry the foot hurts - not conducive to good sleep, either.

Just took some extra stuff - maybe I'll get more sleep tonight.

Sounds like you have a good manager.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up feeling in the mood to do some housework, so decided I should take advantage of that! Couldn't do too much in one go without my foot hurting, so haven't done the entire house, but certain things have been done that I've been ignoring! I decided to go the long way round for milk at lunch, and got to the canal just as three sets of parents were taking gosling's in the water, all 3 were different sizes, but all appreciated food. A family walked past just as the third lot got to us, I offered the food to their little girl to throw in, which she loved, I thought she'd finished at one point, so I threw some in, then she told her dad she wanted to throw one more lot in and put her hand in the bag, he apologised for her being cheeky, I said the food is for the geese, it's irrelevant which of us throws it for them. Also finished my book and got 40% into a new one, so quite pleased with today.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, had a craft fair at our favourite venue today, did really well. Our first sale was a family, the mum and daughter had come on their own last month and wanted more, they brought an extra person this month who also bought, and when I said we are here every month, they said they will be too :-) then another woman who used to just walk past us, but then recently started buying, and has ordered some teacher gifts to collect next month, plus one of the staff bought all of the new duck shaped melts for a baby shower she is going to next month, which gave A an idea to offer personalised baby shower favours, will see if they are popular. Dentist rang while I was there, the dentist has had a bereavement so won't be in this week, so they've had to rearrange my app, which then meant that I could buy some wax melts, there are 12 in the new summer range I want to try, only bought 2 today, will get the rest at the next fair. Forgot to say yesterday Vodafone rang to say they still haven't sorted out the open order on my account, they've sent another request, but it might not be sorted till Tue. At least I have a new case for when it actually is ready, as if it's Tue, I'll have to wait till the week after.

message 666: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Glad to hear the sales are going well. Personalization is a good idea - people could order them for weddings or baby showers or birthday parties if you had some cards or slips of paper to hand out with how to contact you.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sounds like a good day Desley, I did a convention on Saturday which, sadly, didn’t go as well. But I did see parakeets flying wild in Watford so there’s that! :-) Had another attack of the voms on Saturday night but I’m hoping I sorted some of it out today. Also gradually sorting out the book, or at least books because I think there are two.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, bit of a frustrating day at work, despite there being 3 of us, we ended the day with more e-mails than we started, and despite being busy all day, I don't feel like I achieved much, though did have a couple of urgent things that needed doing, annoyingly one wouldn't have been needed if a colleague hadn't made a mistake labelling things, though they did apologise.

We have cards with the facebook page details on Alicia, tend to give them out to people it seems will order more, though this week we did leave some on the table. We are going to put them in the teacher boxes too in case people who get given them would like to buy more. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon MT

message 669: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Hope you find the recurring clientele that make it a bit easier - teacher boxes sounds like a great possibility.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, miserable weather wise and another day where I didn't feel like I achieved much even though I seemed to be busy all day. Went to the coffee shop at lunch, she suggested trying a lemonade syrup after she'd done my order, so will try that next week. Will be nice to try that how it's meant to be made too, think it is raspberry and pomegranate flavour. Finished early to take Lucy for her booster, she was fairly easy to catch and traffic was quiet, so got there early. Her actual visit was funny, I'd weighed her, then picked her up to put her back on the table, and she was really clingy, so held her while the vet was asking questions, and as she was so relaxed, the vet did part of the exam while I was holding her! She has lost weight, so need to keep an eye on that, and she did suggest keep trying to get the tablet form of her meds, and we did discuss some alternatives for her pain as she is getting worse taking her liquid Gabapentin, they no longer have anyone who can do acupuncture, but she suggested I could try the practice my old vet has gone to and see if she would still do it, they are further away though, so that would be a last resort. Got some more of her meds, but there was an issue with the pricing again, so this time they opted to just look at it tomorrow and ring me to pay over the phone. Unfortunately my sciatica wasn't great today, and getting the carrier off the wardrobe and taking her has made it worse.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, one of my colleagues had an appointment this morning, so short staffed, though there had been a mix up, so she was back earlier than expected. I felt more productive than I have been for about an hour, and then seemed to just be leaving messages for people and not clearing anything. Our weekly meeting went over as well, so lost some time then, so don't feel we've cleared enough for being down a person the rest of the week. My knee was sore at the beginning of the meeting, and we don't always use cameras, so was stood stretching and realised my ankles were swollen, no wonder my foot was painful (back was better though, thought of using some Voltorol on it last night!). Went to the shops after work, got some good bargains, then have sat with feet elevated. Vet rang this morning, turns out they've been undercharging me for Lucy's meds, I've been paying £20 and should be £55, they are just going to change it going forward, and I just got some money back at £20 a bottle, so should get most of it back at the higher cost, they are going to do a claim and see what happens. Vodafone rang just as my meeting started, so they left a voicemail, the only thing support can suggest is disconnecting and reconnecting my number, but that could take up to 72 hours, I think I'll wait till I've had my dentist app in case they need to rearrange again!

message 672: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sorry the phone stuff is still going on Desley and bummer Lucy's meds are going up but at the same, time brilliant that they're not expecting you to pay for the previous ones they've undercharged.

message 673: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Good idea to wait until you're finished with the dentist. So confusing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Yes, I am lucky they aren't backdating the underpayments MT, I had queried when they changed manufacturer and it went down by so much, and was reassured it was right. And good they are happy to do a claim and see what gets paid, I'll just get told what the outstanding balance is at some point.

message 675: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments we've had that with vets, the manufacturer told them the wrong price, and then charged them more, after farmers had been charged based on the wrong price.
The vets kicked off and the manufacturer backed down

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up and my feet looked normal again, though were swollen again after work. Bit of a mixed day at work, started off well, but then got a bit bogged down and didn't feel like I'd achieved much (though when I said that to colleague on Tue, she said if I wrote down everything I had done, I'd be surprised, so at least it's only me who thinks I'm not doing enough!). Had a parcel delivered today, annoyingly they posted it through ratty neighbours letterbox and she was home late, but did tell me that I'm always welcome to check her house if I get told it's delivered and suspect it's through hers, which is good. Was sunny but windy, so did a little bit of a walk after work, and bumped into candle shop owners and had a nice chat.

message 677: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Tough one on the deliveries.

That's one of the nice things at our retirement community: 24-hour concierge and they receive all the packages, and notify us. We have to go downstairs to pick them up, but that's VERY minor compared to not knowing where they are.

message 678: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Hope your ankles are better, Desley. I hate the swollen feeling - it hurts when the skin gets stretched.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, today was a nice Fri where nothing much urgent came in, so could focus on other stuff. Still a few tricky things to deal with, and colleague finished early for a meeting. There has been an internal job advertised, in my wider team, but doing a different role, though despite me being on an agency contract, I am eligible to apply so think I should, I can always say no if I want. Foot was swollen by end of the day, so just had a little walk, did see goslings in the field, still seems like there are 13 of them. Did go to coffee shop at lunch, and it was the same bloke who served me and he seemed happy I liked his suggestion last week, though french vanilla wasn't as nice in a hot latte.

message 680: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Nothing like goslings to make you smile!

message 681: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments If the internal job makes you a full employee I'd go for it. They seem to like you so it gives them an excuse to keep you :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, started off wet, but fortunately dried up as there was a food festival in the village today which was outside, plus a craft fair inside. Felt a bit bad turning G down again, but she keeps asking if I want to do things at 10am, but I've already been up long enough to make plans by then and she didn't want to come to the food festival. Was heaving, and hard to get round things, didn't get a blondie as the queue for them was horrendous, but did get a nice crumble topped flapjack. There was a stall with nice homemade cider, decided to get that on the way back, but they'd pretty much sold out by the time I got back! Bumped into a couple of people I know too. Had a nice chat with my surrogate aunty at the craft fair, and met her daughter in law, who sews things and is starting doing craft fairs, she's coming with us to one at the end of the month. There were a few people that we've seen at other craft fairs, so had a chat with all of them, then when I went to say bye to my surrogate aunty, she said 'you really will speak to anyone won't you', so had to point out that I did know those people from other fairs! Nipped to the candle shop to have a little check of a product that we are thinking of making, and to get some bird food, it was really quiet in there, but one advantage was they were out of bagged up seed, she got the tub from the back and just filled my bag up rather than filling up a paper bag for me to tip it into my plastic bag. Got home later than planned, so couldn't be bothered washing my hair, and only did a half hearted attempt at chores, though did tick 'buy books' off my to do list. I did make the mistake after posting yesterday to check Amazon for lemonade syrups and seem to have put a ridiculous amount of them on my subscribe and save that is coming next week.

Yeah, downside is it isn't doing the same work.

message 683: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I think she may be envious of the ease with which you engage people in conversation.

My mother taught me, by example, but when I was a teen it just seemed so embarrassing! Her mother - my Mamina - did it, too - and they met the nicest people everywhere they went.

Now I do it, too - and it's even easier because my mobility device, the Airwheel S8 (bicycle seat on a hoverboard) breaks the ice everywhere. Everyone is delighted to meet Maggie (magnesium alloy frame, maglev motor), so I get to talk to all kinds of people when I go out (still rare because of the pandemic), and some of them will accept an offer to try riding. I'm a regular ham.

Too bad they don't seem to be sending them to the States from China right now - I think I could sell a bunch! Ebay doesn't have any.

Usually, you won't get any conversations if you don't start them - many people are shy.

message 684: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think you're one of those people who can just naturally talk to people. It's a real gift

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Thanks - I have often wondered if there is something that makes people want to talk to me, my home visits would often be lengthy as most people were happy to chat (not even always cat related!), which was a bonus once I learned how long to schedule them for! It's also helpful in my current job and with craft fairs.

message 686: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It is a genuine gift, more people need it. That way we'd have fewer lonely people. :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, didn't get on yesterday as Lucy was being clingy - not sure why, apart from putting the recycling out, the weather was so miserable yesterday I didn't leave the house! Was in the mood for some housework and not what was on my list, so just went with it - some parts are looking much more manageable now though, which is good. Nicer day today, though very chilly start and did put the heating on for a bit - colleague said hers is set at 12 and kicked in on Sat! Seemed one of those days where the phone kept interrupting me, so didn't achieve much. We had a staff conference in the afternoon for a couple of hours, which is too long for me to sit down, so felt very sore and sick after that. Did food shopping on the way home. Opened the door a while ago, there was a young looking black and white cat on the doorstep, which did not go down well with Lucy, she hissed and growled and the cat slinked off under my car, so she sat on the doorstep for another 10 mins intermittently growling, glad it realised to move and she didn't have to chase it.

message 688: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments You made me feel sorry - for that other cat!

Hope you're feeling better - maybe everyone would have benefited at that meeting with a break!

Woke to a very nice long comment from a reader - always cheers me up to have people take my writing the way I intend it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, one of my colleagues was off sick today, luckily nothing urgent came in, but we had some tricky stuff to deal with that was quite time consuming, so we didn't make much of a dent in things unfortunately, though I was really glad to get something sorted that has been hanging around since the end of last month. Nipped into B and M and Iceland on the way home, kept remembering things I didn't get from Aldi, which is frustrating! Might have to write them down and go to Lidl. Something has changed with my back, I noticed it back end of last week, now if I sit for too long, I don't get pain, I just go from fine to feeling sick with little warning, may just feel a little uncomfortable first.
ETA - forgot about my coffee! So I got them to make it with the Raspberry and Pomegranate syrup, the other girl hadn't heard this suggestion last week and was rather horrified, then apologetic in case I thought she was being rude and judgemental! I told her not to worry. I wouldn't have it again, it smelt nice, but I think the syrup was actually thicker, and had a bit of a weird texture and I was struggling to drink it, so not sure why, but it did curdle, which is a shame as I was tempted to see what it would be like in hot chocolate. I do remember buying a rhubarb syrup once that was thick and split in milk, maybe it's certain fruits.

Glad you woke up to a nice comment, always a good way to start the day :-)

message 690: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I suspect Raspberry and Pomegranate syrup may be a step too far :-)

Still keep reporting these experiments so at the very least we know what to avoid.
I must admit that if I'm sent shopping I demand a list because it's so easy to get distracted or overlook stuff.
Any idea how long you have to sit to get problems? It might be useful just to stand up and do something for a couple of minutes. I think that even with excellent seating people can still have problems

message 691: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments The amount of time I sit hasn't changed much (ie, all day), but I must be getting older because things are going numb or causing a migraine aura, even with a special seat cushion.

One more thing to watch out for, and deal with before it takes over.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, had my fillings done today, and realised after about 25 mins that I actually can't lie in one position for that long without my back complaining (often forget that, I must toss and turn enough in my sleep for it not to be an issue), so did regret doing them both in one appointment, but I hate dental needles. Annoyingly, the one that has had a hole the longest has been built up a bit, so is causing a bit of an issue eating, and he warned me that one might be sensitive as it was near a nerve, both have been sensitive to cold. I was freezing while they were doing the cold air stuff in my mouth, actually walked home shivering, put a hoodie on and fluffy socks as I didn't trust myself to have a hot drink. After an hour, I made a coffee, left it 10 mins and then drank it through a plastic straw from one of my mason jars! Was an interesting experience. I managed to get something done that I wanted to do on Mon, and had one person grateful that I googled a number for him, but other than that still feel behind, we were fully staffed today, but back down to two of us now. Did a little walk after work, there were 13 goslings around, so gave them a bit of food, but two adults got really angry, one got dunked and not sure I saw it come back up again! Then noticed there was one in a field with parents, so that is 14. Got a couple of bargains in the shops too. It started raining while I was going to the dentist, but think it has been dry other than that.

Depends on the day really Jim, but sometimes I can't sit through a 45 minute TV episode, though the recent 'fine to feeling sick' have been after a couple of hours and worse if either Lucy is sitting on my (given she does weigh 5.2kg), or if I'm sat slightly differently to accommodate her.

message 693: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Dentist stuff is hard - mine here has a whole bunch of supporting pillows available, but I STILL get uncomfortable fairly quickly, and it HURTS.

Are you done with it? That would make it a bit better.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments As long as these settle down, then yes, I don't have to go back for 6 months

message 695: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Yay!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another bad night sleep, two in a row. Then a rubbish day at work, pretty much everything I picked up this morning had issues and there was an IT gremlin affecting pretty much everyone in the team for the first couple of hours. At least the afternoon wasn't quite as hectic, though still didn't finish the first thing I started which was really tricky, it got to the point where I didn't have the brainpower to finish it. Not sure if I've got my colleagues cold, or if my throat is sore from the dentist yesterday, but that hasn't helped my mood either! It was dry at lunch but couldn't be bothered going out, then it started raining about 2pm and has barely stopped since. I did go to the shops after work, but it was a quick walk round just to get out of the house.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, slept through till about 5.30, then turned over, seemingly went back to sleep and then suddenly thought 'that was a long hour' - I had turned the alarm off yesterday, so rather than waking up at 6.30, it was nearly 7! And of course I had to wash my hair and go in the office - managed it by only doing one shampoo rather than two, and only having half a coffee! Phone hadn't fully charged, and when I went to brush my teeth, I hit one of my newly filled teeth with the brush, which murdered! Then had to wait for the bin men to move from the top of the street. However got to work at same time as colleague and her puppy was in the car, so got a little fuss, which was nice. Day didn't go as badly, though did have to reject quite a few things this pm as they weren't right. Was on my own for a couple of hours while colleague was in a meeting, but luckily it was quiet. One of the girls is leaving today, so we had drinks after work, though I drove home, fed the cats and changed first, and was happy to find the car park we'd used last year that charged us is now free for 3 hours. I left just after 8 as my throat was starting to feel like it was closing and as football had started, it was loud so had to shout more, which meant I had time to pop in Lidl for a couple of bits, though suspect I should have bought cat treats - think I'm just going to start buying them every time I go in. When I was driving down my street, I saw a lovely plaque outside my house, but no note or message to say who it was from - I know who I suspected, so did a round robin message and G owned up to it.

message 698: by Jim (new)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, wide awake at 5.30, gave up at 6am, but started to feel drained by 8am, but couldn't get back to sleep so just had a bit of a lazy start. Rain was forecast at 12, took me till 11.40 to get enough motivation to go to the shop and it started raining part way there - luckily fairly fine, it turned heavy after I got back. Just been alternating between resting and sorting the kitchen
