Just cover the hole with melted choc to seal :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, slept through till 4ish, which I was impressed about as Lucy had jumped on the folded down bit of the quilt, so I only just had enough to cover me, and she wasn't for moving! She went to eat at 4, so I managed to get the entire quilt then. Managed to get through part of my to do list, but people weren't answering the phone! Had a meeting on Cyber Security this morning which was quite interesting, and a team meeting in the afternoon, not used to having so many meetings! Short staffed the rest of the week, so expecting it to be busy. Rained quite a bit of the day, so haven't left the house today. Was nice and bought the cats some new catnip toys from Amazon, most will be here tomorrow. Then realised we have a craft fair on Sun where a cat rescue have a stall and may well have catnip toys!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wow Desley, you're definitely busy, and I'm impressed you slept through Lucy hogging the quilt! Our kitties all end up sleeping in the kitchen but I try to make sure that they sleep in a room that is under or next to ours. First cat slept in the room above so he could hear us moving around and current cat sleeps in the room under our ensuite but both tended to wake me up to be petted about every 20 minutes when we attempted to let them sleep on the bed with us.

Just off to the gym in a minute, but I am probably going to try the eggs at some point ... :-)

Morning all!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening all, back to not sleeping well! Luckily it wasn't as busy as I thought today, but did end up with a couple of things that should have been straight forward that ended up being complicated! Dry but really cold today, nipped to co-op at lunch for milk, then decided to go to Sainsbury's after work to see if they had any reductions, but my Amazon parcel said it was 8 stops away - gave up waiting after 40 mins, nipped round, it came about an hour later! The catnip toys have gone down well, the girls haven't always been interested, but Chanel was flinging hers around (got a pack of 3, plus one to share), Lucy of course was more interested in the plastic it came in!! Had another last minute energy saving session this pm, only 30 mins, but haven't plugged everything back in 3 hours later.

I think I sleep better when I have a cat on the bed (unless Lucy is sleeping in a funny position or snoring of course, she has woke me up with her snoring before!!)

message 409: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments How is 'snoring' different from 'purring'? Please educate someone who has never had a cat sleeping nearby.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Snoring is inherently annoying (I am asleep and having a wonderful time and you aren't!) whereas purring is calming and vibrates at a healing frequency

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I think R described that quite well - Lucy's snoring is loud enough to wake me up and stop me going back to sleep, whereas her purr is quite soothing (although can be quite loud) - she mainly snores when she's sleeping in certain positions so I can move her head slightly to stop it.

message 412: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments My cat comes and sits on my desks and snores his head off. But it's actually quite a soothing little noise, it's more of a hum as he breathes out, with the occasional teeth rattle or snuffle than an actual snoring noise.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Thanks, all - good to know. I may have a cat one day, if I can offer it a proper home and care.

Right now, I can barely manage to take care of myself, and not annoy the husband TOO much; I'll postpone the cat part.

Yeh, they can be a lot of work. It does depend on their personalities. Our previous one was very laid back, this one is like owning a labrador that can jump onto the work surfaces. He's also rocket-scientist smart and appears to be impervious to any sort of discipline. But he is also a moron.

When I say rocket-scientiest smart I mean really clever but can't do the cat equivilent of boiling an egg.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, slept till 5, when got disturbed by Lucy. No real emergencies at work, managed to get a few things off my to do list and finished on time. Rang the vets at lunch, the prescription was done on Tue and left at my local branch, just no one thought to let me know! So plans for my day off on Mon have just changed. We were supposed to have heavy snow, did have some, but it has only stuck on the hills. Didn't go out at lunch though as it was miserable, but did go to the shops after work, as it was dry and sunny then.

It certainly does depend on their personalities, and they can be hard work, and would need more entertaining being indoor only.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments People here who have cats sometimes have a special netting put on their balconies so the cats can be outside for a bit. Depending on the apartment, some cats then have birds in nearby trees, etc.

It's better than being 100% indoors, I suppose, as the apartments are not that huge.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, struggled to get to sleep, then got woken up by my alarm at 6.30 - I remember turning it off yesterday morning, and don't remember setting it again! I didn't need to get up that early. First craft fair of the weekend today, it was in a church I've driven past loads of times and never taken any notice of! Weather was rubbish though, so hopefully that is why it was fairly quiet, though we did enough to pay for the table (they'd randomly put them over the end of some of the pews). They had a nice bake stall, came home with scones and lemon drizzle cake. Went to Lidl after, one of the things I had a voucher for this week was tealights, so thought it was rude not to get them cheaper (and they already had a discount). Got home, Lucy came to greet me, went to kiss her through the bannister, and she sniffed my lips (clearly thought I'd been out somewhere eating!), she was happy when I showed her the cakes I came home with.

Ah, that's good Alicia.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Other friends have turned an appropriate door or window into the access to an outdoor enclosure they call a cattio - with shelves and interesting spaces for the cats to climb around, and their own door back into the house.

I suppose it depends on what can be done to the premises you inhabit - and whether you own or rent - I'd do that to our balcony it it comes to that some day.

One thing at a time - I need to focus on finishing the current book and trilogy.

I did ask the husband, and he wasn't all that keen on a cat - but he'd have to organize som of his stuff or it would be falling down.

We'll see.

Does Lucy eat cake? Harrison used to but he appears to have grown out of that now.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, second craft fair of the weekend, we like this venue, but were a bit hesitant as there was a new wax melt stall, so that made 5 of us, though at least we all do something slightly different. We were very close to the door, and did well (though I did contribute £4.50 to the total), more than double when we were there last month, so that's both stalls covered the fee and made profit, plus I think there is a chance two new customers this month might come back, one we see most months but has never bought, and the other is the bloke who bakes the cakes, so he is there every month too. I remembered one of the stallholders telling me they do vegi sausage, so had a sausage sandwich, which was really nice, they did a filled yorkshire pudding too, if I went there as a customer, and could sit in peace eating it, I'd have gone for that. Did also have a white hot choc with Bailey's. Only came home with wax melts and choc, no cake. Feel very tired now though, glad I've got tomorrow off work.

Yeah, Lucy loves cake, lemon drizzle is her favourite, she also likes salted caramel. She also likes christmas cake and stollen, though at least seems to have got fed up of mince pies.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I love that cats are so gloriously eccentric. Glad you had a good day. Exit your day off tomorrow and rest up.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, I felt quite nasally most of the craft fair yesterday, turned into a cold about 9pm, and woke up this morning with a sinusy headache. It was a lovely day though, thought I might have been able to do errands and a walk. Went to the vets for Lucy's prescription, decided to check it while I was there as I didn't know if Boots would give syringes with it, the vet has done it for 7ml once a week, which may be doable, as she currently has 5ml of water after her tablet, though she objects more to the water than she does the tablet! Went to Boots to drop it off, they will text me tomorrow when it is ready, but couldn't give me an alert for the tablets being in stock. Then went and dropped off my dress at Asda, and got a couple of bits, deliberately didn't get a basket, just used my shopping bag so I wouldn't go overboard. Got home and found I'd done 4k steps, didn't have the energy to go to the lake, so just went to the co-op the long way to hit my step count. Got home, and was making up my tablets while lunch was cooking, and realised I was supposed to have got my prescription, so after eating, I had to go out again! One item wasn't ready, so got them to give me what was, as my inhaler completely ran out, and I'll go back another day for the other item. Then decided I was feeling a bit ropey, so pretty much just did the washing up, and have chilled, so house doesn't look much better. Then had a nice bath and painted my nails.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments The end of that sounded relaxing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, had a bad night sleep. Luckily work wasn't too busy, we had a 2 hour staff conference in the morning in a venue that was a 15 min walk from the office (glad it was dry and sunny), though up a very steep hill! Pretty much got back as it was lunch time, decided to try a decaff orange latte from coffee shop, not sure I'd get it again, though it wasn't that bad. Didn't get my text from Boots, but decided to go and see if they could do it while I waited, which they did. Commented on the size of the box, turns out 'one unit' is classed as 4 x 100ml bottles, they weren't quite sure what to do at first, but turns out that is a monthly dosage for a human, so they said I could have all 4, as they couldn't use the other 3, and I'd pay the same whether I had 1 or 4, so despite it being £54, I should have a years supply. Downside is it still needs water after, left a message for the vet, in case it will be more (instructions for a human are a glass of water). Am going to speak to PetPlan to see if they will pay any of this, but relieved we have something, as I only have half a tablet left. Feel rough now though, glad I'm WFH the rest of the week.

Yes, unless you count housework, in which case very little MT!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, slept OK. Nice sunny day, had a full on, but productive lunch break, nipped out to get some milk, on the way back saw a cat decide to lie in the middle of the road to sunbathe, so went over and shooed it over to the path (fortunately was a friendly cat!), just as I'd got it on the pavement, a car came along! Then rang PetPlan, who said as long as there was proof I had a prescription to get Lucy's medication, I could claim what I paid Boots, so rang the vets to ask them to claim for the prescription I picked up on Mon. The main branch must have been busy/short staffed, got through to the branch I don't go too, but the receptionist knew me, as soon as I gave her the first line of my address, she replied with 'oh, how is little Lucy'! Told her the blood test story, they are going to do a claim, then I can put a second one in. Vet had rang during the morning, she said to get as much water down Lucy as possible, preferably min 10ml, but 15-30mil will be better - she hates 5ml being syringed down her. Then got a letter from rheumatology cancelling a telephone app for 13th April, and that they would do a review and maybe a telephone consult in May - I hadn't actually been told I had a telephone app in April!! Assuming that means my blood test in Dec was fine. Cold seems to have come out more today, not as achy, but that might be more only having done 2.5k steps rather than the 8k I've done each day the last two days!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Swallowing can become a real problem.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, struggled to sleep last night, seems to be a pattern of one good night followed by one bad night. Grey and dull today, so have only left the house to put the recycling out as it's bin day tomorrow. Cold isn't too bad, have been feeling a bit light headed today though and sounding quite croaky, at least work wasn't too bad.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, crazy busy day at work today, both morning and afternoon started with urgent issues and we were fully booked! Ended up working a bit later too. Went out at lunch, got a nice rose white choc mocha and some more cold tablets. Then went back out after work and managed to get some reduced aubergine pasta, probably better for me than the chippy I was tempted with! Ratty neighbour knocked on when I was washing up wanting me to look after the rats around Easter, which I said yes to.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments What would she do without you - you're so kind to her and her rats.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, busy day, had another craft fair, at a venue we've not been to before, a new person A was introduced to last month, this is her regular event, really nice bunch of stallholders (one we knew from our monthly event), another one that made profit, we both came home with cake and earrings. Dry day, but a bitterly cold wind, so not sure I'd have left my house otherwise. After we got back, I spoke to my nephew to secretly drop off my sister's mothers day present, so she has something in the morning, popped into Lidl for just a couple of bits on the way home, then treated myself to a chippy. They do a special, small fish, chips and side (I went for mushy peas) for £5, for 'small' it was a decent portion, still couldn't quite finish it, so not sure what they give you for the regular portions! Could only eat a small amount of my custard cream blondie after it.

Might have been better to check with me before booking it mind! Mentioned it to A today who laughed, with what happened last time!

message 433: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Are you seeing many people at the craft fairs?

Agree with you about chippy portions

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, been wet and windy today, so have only left the house to put the rubbish out. Felt better till about 4, probably because I felt better so did stuff (though only cleaner than it was, rather than a proper clean), and probably did too much. The favourite thing off my to do list was 'buy books'. Not been able to renew my driving licence online though, will have to go to the post office in my lunch break tomorrow.

The monthly one in Feb was quiet Jim, but the three we've done this month have been quite busy, think it helps that we do indoor ones, and all three have had refreshment areas (and both churches were really cheap, like £1 for tea/coffee), so with the weather not being great, it's probably nice for people to get out cheaply, the first church we were told had been quiet compared to usual, but we did well, and have certainly seen quieter. I'd be happy to do less in the summer months, last summer we found they were quiet with people going away, or if the weather was nice, probably taking advantage and being out rather than walking round a craft fair.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, forgot to say that we had the first go with Lucy's liquid medication yesterday. Between what she spat out and what was foaming round her mouth, I think we need to increase to at least 7.5m next week. Nearly got 15ml of water in her, she did stop fighting partway, so guessing it was getting rid of the nasty taste of the liquid. Better than I thought anyway. Busy day in the office, got a colleague off all week. Got told there has been another extension to the consultation, and that nothing is going to happen till June at the earliest, which explains the random extension to my contract. Had an early lunch to go to the post office to sort out my driving licence, luckily not much of a queue, can't say I'm impressed with the photo, but the lady was nice and told me my pic on my work ID badge was a good one. Wasn't happy at having to hand over my old driving licence though, even though I don't need it. Started to feel quite ropey mid afternoon, but decided to stick with going to Aldi after work, just in case I feel worse tomorrow (though still need hot cross buns from M & S, getting close to Easter now)

message 436: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I don't think I've ever liked any of my professional ID photos - they just don't care when they take them.

My last Princeton U. ID was taken on Ash Wednesday many years ago because I happened to be on campus for a service, and the woman who took it didn't even ask if I would like to wipe the ashes off my forehead (I had completely forgotten they were there!). So forever more, as I live in California now and probably won't be going back to that part of the East Coast, I have a peculiar photo.

Oh, well!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, wet and miserable day and quite headachy. Heard back from PetPlan, the claim for her blood test was under her hip displasia, this was done under her IHC, so classed as a new excess and both combined will be under it, so not sure I can be bothered to claim for her meds now - even if I get the tabs and claim for those too, will be under my excess. Went to M & S, got more hot cross buns, and discovered they still do the mushroom pate I like, now I need some caramelised onion chutney.

Have to say I just don't like pics of me in general Alicia! ID pic for last place was worse, I'd arranged a photographer for pics of people I needed, then at the last minute, someone else decided to get pics of everyone who was in that day, so I wasn't prepared hair and makeup wise, and had to live with it for years.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, wet and windy today, had a weather warning apparently. Nipped out at lunch to get milk, and it wasn't nice, but rain got heavier during the afternoon. Have to go in the office in the morning, we have about 1200 letters to send out, a couple of people from the other team are helping, so we are hopeful we can get them all done in the morning, then I'll be able to WFH in the afternoon. At least it means I can pop in B & M for a couple of things I thought I'd have to wait till next week for, and maybe get petrol too.

That is a very good idea Jim!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, started feeling rough again at 11pm last night, couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to take any tablets though, and was then up at 5am. There was kind of 6 of us stuffing envelopes (1 was doing the printing, then joined, one got interrupted part way through), it took us till just after 1pm! They are done though, and we are now waiting for the calls complaining about the price increase and people sending surveys back that need something doing with them. And short staffed for the next two weeks. Got my stuff from B & M, but felt too poorly and hungry to get petrol too. I hate having such a late lunch, really throws my afternoon. Even though it was raining and I felt rough, decided to go to the chemist for the rest of my prescription and figured while I was out, I'd see what reductions were on offer, came home with quiche for tea tonight and lunch tomorrow. Didn't come home with my prescription though, apparently manufacturing issues, so they are going to let my doc know they haven't dispensed it, and I'll have to ring them and ask for an alternative. Another energy saving session this evening.

message 443: by Jim (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Jolted out of my usual routine: had to pick the husband up at noon from the hospital in Sacramento (cardiac catheterization). There will probably be another procedure in a couple of weeks.

My assistant had said she could take me, but woke up with a sore throat, and didn't want to expose us to a possible bug, so I ordered a Lyft, and went on a nice round trip ride. About a half hour each way. That was most of my energy for the day, but may try to get a little writing in (now that I'm not worried about him) after a nap.

Bright sunny WINDY California day, nice temperature. Minor slowdown on the trip each way - Road Work.

I so rarely get out, that it's a big deal.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, bad night sleep and really busy day at work - supposed to finish at 4.45, finished at 5.25! At least someone I had to arrange something for at short notice told me I was wonderful. Lucy popped her head round the door and screamed at me at 5.20, she wasn't hungry, she just wanted to go out (and not for the toilet, she only uses her litter tray). Had what we thought was an emergency come in at 4.40, but luckily turned out to not be quite as urgent as thought. Been quite wet and miserable most of the day, so not left the house other than to put rubbish out.

Hope OH will be OK Alicia, hope you enjoyed your trip out, sounds like nice weather for it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, woke up about 5am really thirsty, got a drink and went back to sleep, but that meant I woke up later than usual, then rather than being productive between getting up and going out, I did one chore and just lazed around, though given how hectic the last couple of days have been, I may have needed that. Took my sis and the kids out today, the weather improved, so we decided to go to local market town, take the kids to the park and have a drink at the cafe across, run by the people who own the candle shop, then get a few bits. Started raining on the way there, but stopped by the time we got to the park, so kids got to play, at the cafe we just got a plate of fries and a plate of cheesy fries to share between us, and couldn't manage them, the portions were massive! We are going to try other stuff next time. Kids had ice cream too, I bought a ferrero rocher cheesecake to take home, though was so rich I could only eat half. About 8pm, someone from the next street came round to let me know my parcel had gone there, but it was too heavy for him to carry, so had to go round in the rain in my dressing gown to pick it up!

message 447: by Jim (new)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep, and Lucy woke me up at 7.15. By the time it stopped raining this pm, I was partway through the housework, so didn't want to stop to go for a walk. Lucy spent most of the day in bed, she even slept through me hoovering the bedroom. A dropped me off a couple of sample wax melts this pm, looking forward to Blueberry Cheesecake Icecream.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening all, busy day at work, people started getting the letters we sent out on Sat, so have had more than the usual amount of calls. Got through some of the stuff I hadn't finished last week, but the amount that came in today was more than double that, so at least I don't need to worry about being bored! Ordered some more biscuits for Lucy Sat evening, they arrived 5 mins after I got home today, can't fault that for free delivery!
