Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Tammie, I think it's good now. I had 2 books that ended up not working for anything and I forgot to remove them. And I had 1 book that I forgot to add to the SS, so I hope it's good now.

I added a book that I forgot to mark as read and I read it on Oct 27th lol so I added Nutshell by Ian McEwan and it works for I, E, C, T, R and I placed it on line 114.

Might be able to fit one more in but not sure

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Oh my gosh, I have SO many books planned for another challenge that don't work at all for Wheels! Hopefully when I get into them there will be some character names I can use. We're heading home this morning so later tonight or tomorrow I'll look through unplanned books for E and U and whatever else we need. This word is hard!

I know right!
I found an L in Starter Villain yesterday...thank goodness! We are all going to have to try and bend a bit if we can for this next one :)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I agree, Tammie! I have added all my books I could find until I get home. We’re leaving for home soon and I am driving, probably the whole way. With no traffic or potty breaks it’s a good 5 hour drive, so obviously I won’t be able to check this thread once we head home. And don’t worry about my last book, Beautiful Ruins., because I have the audiobook too.

One more day Team Classical! Please try to have everything posted by noon (CentralUS) tomorrow. If you haven't already, please comment if a book is on it's way and is not on the SS already.
Thanks much!
See the timer on our SS for the deadline :)

Reminder...the official timer is 3 hours later...please note this for posting Round 3's books...I'll adjust once Round 2 is over :)

Thanks, Tammie, I loved CAKE books 1 & 2 and I am reading book 3 for this next round.

Plus, I posted my last book for this round.

message 214: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I posted my last two for this round that I finished yesterday and added some books for the next round. It's a heavy work and graduate school two weeks going into Thanksgiving so three may be all I can manage this round. Sadly the class I'm in now is a lot of articles rather than books.

message 215: by Tammie (last edited Nov 04, 2023 08:23AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Thanks everyone for getting your books posted...I'll be checking us in in about 3 hours so there's still time for more finishes if you like. We're currently in the #1 spot...we'll see how things shake out today. Follow here if you like :) Great Work!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Tammie, I'm confused about the time frame for reading books. Some people already read and finished Starter Villain and have answered the questions with a rating showing. Can we read books ahead of time like banking them? I know we can start our books prior to a round, but I didn't think we could finish them until the round began, so would you please clarify that for me?

message 219: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments We cannot bank books.

Having said this...for BOM...you could have started Starter Villain 2 weeks ago and finished it yesterday and be able to answer question tomorrow and that would be fine.

The rules for this challenge is that no books can be started until the Start of the Challenge...that was October 7th. This includes all BOM.
Any book finished, must be recorded in the round it was finished...no banking books for another round.

Does this answer your question Vicki?

message 220: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I'm glad to address any worry you see...I don't police other teams...but if there is something wrong, just let me know...PM me if you like.

message 221: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments That answers my question with one exception. If round 3 doesn’t start officially until today, how could we finish the book yesterday and answer the questions today? Oh jeez! Never mind! I haven’t looked at anybody’s spreadsheets on any other team or anything but obviously they could have used it for round two. Forgive me for being such a dork! 😂

message 222: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Thanks for taking a turn at dork...I'm next!

BOM are tracked separately...we don't earn those points unless the book is marked 'read'. Our team had none for this last round.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Lol oh good — I love dorkships!

message 224: by Tammie (last edited Nov 05, 2023 11:58AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments @Vicki a couple of things

I can't see a guitar on the cover for your Fiercely Emma book

also...there's been quite a bit of discussion in the captains thread regarding instrument cases...it's been decided that instrument cases are not be allowed to be counted as an 'instrument'...so The Unsinkable Greta James doesn't work :(

@ALL...we still need 7 instruments...calling on everyone to see if you can help with 1? I know with UKULELE it's difficult. Perhaps we can find a short U and we could all read for it :)
Thank you!

message 225: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 152 comments I can read Of Beast And Burden by Kelsey Kicklighter for instrument on cover

Of Beast And Burden (Hollow and Hill, #1) by Kelsey Kicklighter

message 226: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments If any of you have an audible subscription...I found a shorty that works for U and has a guitar on the cover. 5 hrs, 200pgs

Oh jeez, I'm so sorry! I must've had a brain fart because Emma has NO guitar! I might've had another book in that spot and moved it because I did switch a couple books around or I simply messed up. And it's too bad that the guitar case doesn't count but OK.

message 229: by Vicki (last edited Nov 05, 2023 07:46PM) (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Tammie, I also added book 4 of the Cake series (follows Fiercely Emma) and it has an actual guitar on the cover. As of now, I had to put in in a K spot, but I might find another character for another letter to help fill in some words above.

And Emma has redeemed herself (and so have I) because the cover is 57.4% brown! :) There are a total of 6 books that are marked for brown and I know we can only have 5 but it's there in case we need it, unless you want me to remove the checkmark for brown.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Tammie, this month due to daylight savings, I have to be at my daughter’s house at 4:30 in the morning and once I get the three older kids to school, I just have my three-year-old grandson Julián aka. JuJu. My son-in-law doesn’t get home until 5:30 in the evening, so I have a very long day to be able to read because JuJu is really good about playing by himself and watching his “big show” (tablet) so I can pretty much read all day. And he & Lily take naps once I get her home from her kindergarten class and even if they don’t nap they go to their rooms and they have rest time. I’m just telling you all of this because I am on my phone today and most of the time I can update on my SS, but for some reason I can’t get back to my book section on our spreadsheet. I can only see the right side where it has the author’s name and series etc. So if it’s OK I’m going to just mark my books as I’ve gotten them read because I have three books going right now because I need to finish them up for Turf Wars. I am going to be pushing myself today to get them all read which I can do. I just can’t put them on the SS until later tonight or if I am too tired it could even be Thursday when I don’t watch them. So I am going to add them here as I get them read and if you don’t mind you can add my read date on the SS.

Trial by Fire
Read: 11/6

Thanks and sorry for being such a pain in the you-know-what!

Aww...I wish I had some of those grandkids...JuJu sounds like a dream!
Whatever you need...just post it here :) If I'm not around, one of the team likely will be and we can update you for whatever...we're not on a deadline this week so it's no worries for you to wait if you prefer.

I think we're going to have a lot more books this round as I know I'm reading shorter books so far to get the U's. I've been thinking about that...I know longer is better...but I'm thinking that at this rate with more it shouldn't matter...someone correct me if my thinking is wrong.

I've been reading way more than usual as I just haven't been busy with work...the real estate market is so slow for me right now. I secretly would like it to stay that way through the holidays ;)

I think longer is better unless you can get a hard letter.

Let's say we average 300 pages a book. So we need 2U books for 2100 pages. Now let's say we go to 400 pages a book. We get 2800 pages per 2 U. True, we read less books but that means we need less letter Us to spell out Ukulele.

We will get a lot of short U books but reading longer books for the other letters will take the pressure off finding U books and probably average out.

Also, for those who like fantasy, Ursula Le Guin's EarthSea Series (A Wizard of Earthsea are all fairly short fast reads.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Thanks, Tammie. And regarding the page count of books and how many U-books we need to read, my brain definitely does not work that way! I get what you are saying, but I never would’ve thought of it myself! 😂

It does not follow a list...good eye!

For this round, find musical instruments on the cover of your books (any instrument, just has to be obviously an instrument)

M Beal | 1680 comments I have a bunch of "U" books covered. I love Umberto Eco and will dive back into his works with no problem. If someone is looking for an interesting one with a 'U' may I suggest The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike, it is around 350 pages.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I finished my audiobook - The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough - this morning on the way to work and had totally forgotten that narrators counted. Nice surprise! Edward Herrmann is one of the best narrators and there is nothing like feeling Richard Gilmore is reading you a story. Started Under the Banner of Heaven A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer . I have two more commuting days this week so I should be able to knock it out via audiobook as well.

Thanks Cindy...I'll unfreeze that left/right I've got set up. I'm not enjoying it either. For now...go ahead and move your 'e' to the 'u' spot. We'll likely get to at least line 140.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Plowed through Under the Banner of Heaven A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer . Updated the spreadsheet and now onto Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer . Going to finish this book for school this week and just added it Jesus, Humanity and the Trinity by Kathryn Tanner . It's a non-fiction season for me for sure.
