MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments Hello Team,

I'm so excited for another round of Wheel. Music Wheel no less. My name is Lisa and I am one of the Co-Captains for this round.

I am married to my wonderful husband of 22 years and we have a daughter who will be 19 right after this challenge starts. She's in college so we don't see her much, even though she lives at home.

I work from home so I "work" about 12 hours a day, but that is total time in front of my computers, not actual work time. :) I am on Goodreads a lot and am a bit of a challenge junkie. This is one of my favorites. I have found a great team makes an ok challenge a great challenge so I'm excited to get to know everyone. I'm also on Turf Wars, Discover Italy, a few Halloween Monster challenges, Star Trek, oh and (MM) Bingo. Gotta love Bingo

My favorite Genre is MM Romance. It's almost exclusively what I read, but I'm always looking to branch out and for recommendations for my mom and friends, so if you have a favorite, let me know and I will take a look. What is your favorite genre and/or book? Do you read or listen or both? Are there narrators you just love?

I'm so excited to meet you all and have a great 10 weeks of reading with you all!

Tammie | 4553 comments Hey everyone…I'm really excited about reading and completing the wheel challenge with you all.

What do you think of our theme?...We're Team Classical...ok how many of us are classical music fans? Any favorites. I'm told 'everyone loves classical music'. Wondering if this is true. Does it only involve instruments...hmmm?

I live in the St Louis area and work in Real Estate…the crazy times have ended and I'm working at a more manageable rate at this time. Have had a bit more time to read recently anyway.
My husband and I are empty nesters and we love to travel.

I’ve done wheel several times…if you haven’t, I’ll encourage you to read the rules a couple of times. Questions…please ask here! Let’s discuss our best strategies and ideas. We'll be using a spread sheet to enter our books...and would love to help anyone learn how do it if you are unsure. Instructions for posting/linking books to the SS will be in one of the links above.

I think I’ve friended you all. I was happy to see most of you are already my 'friends'...looking forward to challenging with you again and I welcome to learn more about those I haven't challenged with yet. If you could post your wheel book list LINK here that will be helpful. Your captains will use this list if we need to track down a completion.

A few questions to chat about as we work toward our start in less than a week!

Do you like to chat about books? Share ideas and recommendations? It really helps our team if we're all engaged...not only will it help our team do well...it will be fun.

Do you all have any favorite classical musicians? I always think of Star Wars when I think of a favorite.

What book do you plan to read first?

Excited!!

**Don't forget to mark this thread for notifications :)**

Natasha | 1140 comments Hello everyone,

Excited for a new wheel challenge. I've done a number in the past. My shelf for the challenge is here.

I'm Natasha. I'm a librarian that works as a cataloger for my full time job and as a reference librarian at a university for my part time job. I'm also a part time professional nature photographer. I'm married and own many pets: two German Shepherds, two bearded dragons, a Western Hognose snake, and two koi fish.

My favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, history, science, medicine, physics, and literary criticism. I also enjoy historical fiction, young adult, historical romance, nature, sociology, psychology, and an occasional mystery. My reading has slowed down a bit in the past few years, but I've been trying to devote more time to reading. I'm hoping wheelathon can help.

I haven't listened to much classical music. I prefer rock and metal. I do love the harp though and melodic music as well.

I love to talk about books. One of my previous jobs involved preforming reader's advisory. I'm happy to recommend books for people in the genres that I enjoy. I'm also happy to receive recommendations. My tbr list my be way too long, but I'm always happy to add to it.

Everyone is welcome to friend request me.

Tammie | 4553 comments I’m not a classical listener either…at first I thought of Andrea Bocelli who I love…love but I guess that’s more opera

My fav is good ole rock ‘n roll…BonJovi, Queen, Bob Segar, etc
I used to be an avid concert goer…not as much these days.

Welcome Natasha!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Hello Team Classical! My favorite classical song is Claire de Lune. It’s beautiful!

I’m sitting in a school parking lot letting my 3 year old grandson sleep while I wait for my 5 year old granddaughter to get out of kindergarten. Then I go pick up one of my grandsons from his middle school, and then another grandson from his high school.
I just happen to be watching four grandchildren from yesterday through Sunday while my daughter and her husband are away on a trip for their wedding anniversary. Unless my grandson can help me when he gets home from school, I don’t have a computer, but I will post a little bit here from my phone and simply say that I have played wheels quite a number of times and I love it! I will also be going to Vegas on Monday through Friday, so this upcoming week might be a little bit spotty for me, but I am a good participant, and I will do everything I can to help our team succeed!

I love historical fiction, sports romance, mystery, psychological thriller, thriller, some fantasy (Jennifer Armentrout, Amy Harmon, Sarah J. Maas) and as little sci-fi as I can get away with! I’m definitely not a big sci-fi fan.

I’ll post my link to my wheels shelf later today when I run home for a bit so I can take care of a few things while hubby watches the kids for me.

Looking forward to having a lot of fun!

We own a time share and we can go all over the world with it, but we're going to Vegas because my brother-in-law live there so we're going for a visit. :) Our resort is Worldmark and Club Wyndham.

I'm glad we don't start for a little bit so I can read all the directions when I don't have to little monsters (I mean angels) running around! lol

hehe...rules are pretty much the same as they have been for the last few years actually.

Reminder to all...books cannot be STARTED for this challenge until after the challenge starts. Once it starts...books can be carried over to other rounds if not finished...it's just the initial start we need to be cautious about :)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Hi all,

Excited to do this Wheel Challenge with you. Wheel is my favorite and even though I am reading less this year between work, family, and starting my doctoral program I am still working through books and am hopeful as things wind down through October that I will have a lot more time for reading!

I work for the Episcopal Church in Oklahoma where I am responsible for training, curriculum, and educational programming. I am married to a farmer and we live about an hour outside of OKC. I have a 16 year old step son and a 10 year old daughter.

If you don’t find me reading then I am usually in the kitchen, knitting, or desperately trying to convince myself I have a green thumb.

I read a lot of historical fiction, literary fiction, and the occasional mystery. I have read more rom-com this year to balance out all the non-fiction for school. I also like a good memoir, biography, history.

I am in the app (at a high school football game because our 16 year old is in the band) but I will post a link tomorrow!

Jax (jaxn) | 286 comments Hi everyone,

Sorry for checking in late. I just got home from a long trip.

I read a lot of non fiction. Lately it's also been a lot of sci fi and fantasy but those are new genres.

I'm in the Pacific Northwest and like hiking and road trips when not reading.

Looking forward to hearing what people are reading and hopefully getting some recommendations

Elli | 241 comments Hello!

I read most genres but my favorite genres are Fantasy & Sci-Fi.

Here's my shelf.

I'm in abit of a reading slump these days so I can't commit more than 1 book per week. But who knows, I might end up reading more due to this challenge. This is my 2nd time participating in Wheels & it's one of the few challenges that I will keep participating every year. :)

Tammie | 4553 comments Kate, Jax and Elli…looking forward to reading with you!

Everyone has their own pace for reading…when teams are formed that’s part of the magic…everyone contributes no matter how many books you read!

Elli when I’m in a slump I go to what I love most. Doesn’t necessarily work for everyone though :)

@Kate or anyone else with a green thumb…question about using stems to start another plant. I got a stem from a friend for a plant of hers that I love…I was able to get it to grow roots…I put it in water…but I’ve had it for months and the stem is just the stem…no more leaves are adding…do you know what I’m doing wrong or have any suggestions on how to get it to leaf out?

Cindy | 152 comments Hello everyone. My name is Cindy and I live in Colorado with my husband and 22 month old, with another one on the way due in February. I work in a hospital pharmacy. I listen to audiobooks at work and try to read books at home when I get a chance, sometimes I don’t actually get much reading done but I enjoy doing both ways. I pretty much read anything and everything. I have a really big TBR and it’s mixed with all genres. I don’t read too much horror though so I would say it would be my least favorite. I don’t really listen to classical music at all. This is my 4th time playing wheel and I’ve played every year since discovering it

I’m starting my search hopefully tomorrow…

@All…please share any great ideas with the team!

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments Hi team! Rebecca here from flooded NY and finally seeing the sun today! I manage and work in a research lab so my days fluxuate a lot between insanely busy and pretty mild. I always have an audiobook going....as long as I don't get too many interruptions from the 30 people in the group.

I love these challenges and cannot wait to dive into another one! I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old, so I definitely don't get as much reading as I like, but always try to squeeze in any amount of pages whenever I can, so it's hard to predict how much I can read in a given week.

I read a LOT of mysteries (especially cozies), thrillers, some HF and some romance. Since we start in October I anticipate mostly mysteries because it's spoooooky season. I also probably drink way too much coffee haha.

I love classical music. It's my go-to when I want to concentrate or read because I can't handle silence. The last year of getting my Masters degree, Spotify told me that Vivaldi was my most played artist hahaha.

So excited to play and chat books and everything else with you all!

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments Also is there a website that can determine % of a color? My computer is weird (old) and sometimes things look off. Such as this book looks dark purple on my screen, but I feel like it is probably black haha

Death and the Sisters (A Mary Shelley Mystery, #1) by Heather Redmond

And this has purple, but no idea if it's 50%
The Fragile Threads of Power (Threads of Power, #1) by V.E. Schwab

Rebecca,,,unfortuneately these don't meet the color requirements.
#1 isn't purple
# 2 would need to be at least 50% purple.

Both could be used for the spellout though...so if you want to read them...more than fine!!

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments Also another question about the round1 bonus...

During Round 1 books with one of the musical instruments on the list below (plurals permitted) in the text earn an additional 5 bonus points. Only one bonus word per book and a maximum of 10 bonus words.
You can find the same instrument multiple times. Plurals and possessives OK, but no other variants (bagpiping bagpipers without mention of their bagpipes are of no use to you!)

So we can find any of the instruments to get a bonus? It says anything from the list below and you can find the same instrument, so that makes it sound like everything is fair game, not just mandolin? Just trying to see if this makes sense outside of my *only 4 hours of sleep* brain.

Purple is personally my favorite color. What about everyone else?

Normally I try to check in every day or two and I still should be able to do that unless 49ers fans (us) get attacked by Raider Nation! lol Or the internet/laptop doesn't work. Usually we have no problem but haven't been to Vegas in several years. If you don't "hear from me" before then, we'll be back late Friday since it's an all day drive.
