Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I'm not getting notifications today for some reason! We're in second place now ladies :)
I'm gonna decide in the am, new Charley on Tuesday so I gotta take that into account!

message 353: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) The no notifications is driving me nuts. I am reading Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh book 7 in the Guild Hunter series.

Charley is my read for SS as we are on 68 :)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Me too Grace!
Well I don't care for this alternate this roll :(
I think I'll read The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter and just not read Charley tomorrow.

message 355: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) Yes that shelf is a bit odd, to me set aside would mean DNF.

I have never got to the second book in that series. I am up to date with Gin :) I am impatiently waiting for Charley, after the end of the last one, I have to read it tomorrow.

NayNay Stolen (Lucy Kincaid, #6) by Allison Brennan by Allison Brennan

Week: 9 (Sunday)
Spot: 76
Series: Lucy Kincaid #6
Read: 05.18.15
Rating: 4 stars

This is a very good series. It is well written, it has great characters, and is well paced. The mystery of the story is compelling and chilling with twist and turns that keep the pages turning. I thought that Lucy an Sean made a intriguing couple and their relationship really added to the storyline. Any fan of the suspense/romance genre would enjoy this series, I highly recommend it.

Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh #7 Guild Hunter Series
Rating★★★★
Finished 18th May 2015

This is one of my favourite series, and this installment didn't disappoint. I really liked the earlier story with Ash and Janvier Angels' Pawn and it was good to see their story progress.

They were working together, Ash for the Guild and Janvier for the tower to uncover what happened to a girl found in a mummified state in a dumpster. The story was good and I loved the glimpse of the other seven. I love Naasir, the dinner party was very funny. Looking forward to Naasir's story.

After the lackluster previous book, I was a little worried about this one. I've always liked Gideon/Lies so I sure didn't want to be disappointed. Well let me tell you my friends it was great! I lol'ed at the dialogue so many times. Scarlet was the perfect match for Gideon and while she annoyed me a little at the start of the book by the halfway point I was Team Gideon and Scarlet. Things were set up nicely for Secret's book and I can't imagine what kind of mate he'd have that wouldn't be an issue. Glad I put my reservations to the side and read this for sure!

Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton

Read: 3/21

Rating: ★★★★½

Ok so I think this book was a case of it came onto my radar through some challenge or another and the cover was gorgeous so, sure why not add it to my TBR. I'll get to it at some point. Now I loathe love triangles and I know these YA fantasy books always seem to feel the need to go that way so I've avoided it for awhile. But it's been tugging at me lately to finally crack and read it. Admittedly I'm glad I did. I have a weakness for anything playing off the Greek myths and this does an admirable job with it's play on the myth of Persephone.

The book is a little slow to start with the back and forth in time. The stories not told chronologically, instead we're with Nikki in the aftermaths of her decision and over time get caught up on the events that lead up to her decision to go with Cole to the Everneath. (By the way this book is getting the extra half star bump for the last like 10 pages.) This is a case for me in frustration. I dislike love triangles, I dislike them even more when I have a hard time choosing between the guys. Jack is your typical teenager. But his love for Nikki is genuine. Their mistakes and misunderstandings are understandable for a couple of kids. Cole is a little more complex. What he is makes everything increasingly more and more not simple. The way those of the Everneath survive makes his motives and feelings towards Nikki complicated and messy. I found myself sympathizing with him and yes still not wanting to hurt Jack either.

The world that's been created here is interesting. I find myself really curious to discover what the court of the Everneath is really like. Everything here takes place in the human world as Nikki looks for a way to say goodbye and maybe just escape her fate.

This story was a case of me getting more and more invested as time went along. The story was good, but not great as most of the back and forth was over the two guys. But as things began to pick up speed and Nikki actually owned up to what was going on and her time approached, well I got more and more invested. Even though I knew exactly where this train wreck was going it still got to me. Will definitely need to read the next book in the series and see where this goes.

I sure wish I had book 3 right now! The chemistry between Zack and Emma is awesome. And Zack....well he's extra awesome lol. While this novella shows our H and h meeting it's not necessary to the overall story arc. It does fill in the holes though about their previous connection in book 1. I've really enjoyed this series. It's the perfect blend of romance, mystery and paranormal. Can't wait to read the third one later this year!

Week: 9 (Thursday)
Spot: 80
Standalone: The Last Days of Henry VIII
Read: 05.23.15
Rating: 4 stars

This book was well written, I read many of books about Henry VIII and this was a great book about England and Henry's break from the Roman Catholic Church. He also talked about the consequences, and what effect it had on the king's subjects and how they dealt with it. I found parts of it sad, the author goes into detail about the king's executed victims, some where so young, most had unfair trials or no trials at all, and knowing some were even innocent. If you have any interest in the Tudor Era and of King Henry VIII, this is a great book to read.

This was an interesting read. I am not a huge fan of person POV and I really hate it when we don't know the name of our narrator. Despite that I enjoyed this story although it is at times a very bleak and depressing tale.

It is a beautifully told story and the second half the book was more enjoyable than the start.

Butterfly Hunter (Butterfly Hunter #1) by Julie Bozza

This is really sweet. Simple, but sweet. The initial attraction here, especially for Nicholas, comes a bit out of nowhere, but as a couple I like these two together. It seems a silly premise, chasing butterflies through the Australian Outback, but it's tie in to what's going on in Nicholas' personal life does work.

David spends his life leading groups/individuals out into the Outback on expeditions catered to their own personal wants and needs. Leading the son of an English earl on a mythic butterfly hunt is no different. Nicholas is looking for his dream, a mythic butterfly that gives him hope for the future. Together they are looking for a different path in both their lives.

So for once I didn't have an issue with the gay for you storyline. In fact it worked in part because David has never had any other relationships than with his ex Denise. He's been a one woman man his whole life and never explored his sexuality outside of his love for her. His budding attraction to Nicholas took him by surprise and kind of bubbled over him in a strange wave. I was less sure of Nicholas' attraction for David. Maybe because we're only in David's head I never really knew what was going on for Nicholas despite his saying that he fell for David basically at first sight.

I did enjoy the Aussie color in this story and because I'm a dork the little bits of scientific butterfly information. The world was well depicted. :)

As a whole this was an enjoyable read, quick and sweet, and light. I'll probably look for the sequel at some point if only to find out where things go next.

If you like PNR/UF and haven't tried this series yet…you should. What an awesome cast of characters! The action is nonstop and Rylee is just the best. I'd want her in my corner facing a crisis for sure!

THE M&M BOYS by Lara Reznik Title M
Rating★★★
Finished 24th May 2015

This wouldn't be a typical book choice for me but I needed a sports read for a challenge and this looked interesting.

I know nothing about baseball, I had never heard of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle was just a name I had heard at some point.

It is set in 1961 and follows Mantle and Maris and they try to break Babe Ruth's home run record. There story is told alongside that of a teenage baseball player, Marshall. The stars move in next door to him for the summer.

Marshall has a hard time with an abusive father and ill mother and his friendship with Roger Maris is the highlight of his summer.

Despite my lack of knowledge and general lack of interest in Baseball I found this an engaging and entertaining story.

Yes!!! Finally!!! This is it, the Ty and Zane book I’ve been waiting for! This was just plain perfect. For the first time I felt like all of the action, the emotion, the snark all came together in the perfect believable balance. And hey, on a side note, no one ended up in the hospital. ;) I’ve enjoyed the other books in this series and I’m certainly committed to reading it all now. But for the first time I really fell in love with everything happening and felt like I was right where I was supposed to be. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!!!

Zane is pissed off at the world and most specifically at his partner. Ty disappeared in the middle of the night to destinations unknown right after Zane finally got up the nerve to tell Ty that he loved him. Finally days later Ty calls to check in and let him know that his plans to be right back and explain have been derailed by another assignment from Burns. When Zane gets his own call from the man upstairs he didn’t expect to be sent off as back up to Ty, but he certainly isn’t complaining about the results. Between the two of them how hard could it be to bring one man in and back to FBI headquarters? When that man is Julian Cross and lots of people seem to want him dead, well a teensy bit harder than they were expecting.

First of all I love that this picked up right where the last book ended. I was SO MAD at Ty after the way he bailed on Zane. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! But then he was just so damn cute when he realized it was Zane in the airport and he was going to get his chance to apologize earlier than expected. Can’t blame Zane for eventually giving into all that regret. I mean begging was happening, groveling might even have occurred. Ty and Zane are just so perfect together that I even love it when they’re pissed and yelling. You just know they need to vent it all out and that there’s a part of them that’s enjoying the mad.

This was again one of the few times I felt like the case they were on was fully integrated into what was going on between them. Similar to their cruise ship adventure I really felt like both their relationship and the work stuff all went together. But unlike the cruise ship they weren’t spending loads of time together and being forced to confront their issues. This time the case had most of their attention but it brought how awesome they are as a couple into sharper focus. They just compliment each other so well.

So now I really need to go and read Warrior’s Cross! I loved Julian and Cameron and knowing there is a book out their with their names in it means I’m going to have to back track and catch up. Julian clearly cares about Cameron and I want to know their epic coming together story. Julian and Ty together just cracked me up. Talk about too much testosterone sparking around a room. I giggled every time Cameron assumed that Zane was really the more dangerous one. More obviously going to kill you maybe, but Ty’s got more avenues at his disposal. Zane’s just gonna shoot you, Ty…well who knows what Ty’s going to come up with, he’s devious.

I adored Deuce and his little girlfriend and I loved that Zane and Nick got to have it out a little bit so that maybe Zane can get some peace with Ty’s relationship with Nick. Plus knowing more about Ty’s past…DAMN! No wonder Ty’s so twitchy. He’s got a lot of past in his history. I love seeing how much he trusts Zane to have his back. Just had the hugest grin on my face when they first showed up at Cameron’s apartment and the way they handled that meeting. Back to back and steady and sure. Awesome!

Of course the intrigue and figuring out all the crazy details of exactly what was going on were wonderfully twisted and made the reading all the more fun. As much as Ty and Zane are the draw of this series it was nice to see a plot that really developed and went somewhere rather than just a convenient something to be a foil for these two men. All the characters were entertaining and it’s got to be a fascinating thing to be on a road trip with that handful of testosterone laden death machines. Poor Cameron if you’d come into that whole thing single I don’t know how you would have managed to choose. Sex on three sticks. :D

This one is going on my favorites shelf and so far will be the first Ty and Zane book I reach for when I’m looking for a re-read. Loved this!!! Epically good and I hope this continues on down the road.
