Now starting BLACKOUT by Simon Scarrow. This is the first novel in the author's new series set in wartime Berlin that features homicide inspector Horst Schenke. The sequel novel is scheduled to be published just after Christmas, so I hope this first book will whet my appetite for more.

I'm currently reading Make Her Pay by Miranda RijksJust wanted something light for my last review book of 2023. I've bought four books recently and was gifted an interesting book by my Secret Santa so I will not be reading any review books in the coming weeks. That's not to say I won't post a few words about the books I will read first.

Now starting THE PRISONER OF GUANTANAMO by Dan Fesperman, a stand alone novel published back in 2006 that won the Hammett Prize for Best Novel and was shortlisted for the Barry Award as well.I read four other books by Fesperman last year and really enjoyed them, so I am hoping this one will keep the momentum going.

Completed Big Sister, Little Sister, Red Sister: Three Women at the Heart of Twentieth-Century China by Jung ChangIn a culture that values boy babies over girls, it’s quite remarkable to that three women in a single family had such close proximity to such incredible upheaval in the shaping of modern China.
I am reading
Echogenesis by Gary Gibson .... This is about a group of people who wake up on a dangerous hostile world with no idea how they got there. Already halfway through. AND
The Ark by Patrick S. Tomlinson .... This one follows a detective on a huge spaceship and he has to solve the case of a missing man when it is impossible for anyone to actually disappear. Its very good!! Already read 100 pages.

⭐⭐⭐ That first one is fantasy about a group of 7 people trying to save the whole world from these invading Pandoras and the second one is a werewolf story that takes place over 3 months. Next I will be starting on A Cat's Guide to Bonding with Dragons by Chris Behrsin
I read. The Underground Library. by Jennifer RyanIt is historical fiction, set in WWII London. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am 86 pages into Clan of Three Staffs by Chloe Garner
... Its historical fiction about a clan who breeds horses, sheep, goats + cattle. But they prize mountain born horses the best. Thing is they need a rare woman every generation to go take a mare up into the dangerous mountains to attract a mountain stallion. And she has to stay up there until the foal is born. Most women who try it never come back. They need these mountain born horses to get certain characteristics in their Hill Charger horses (which are big horses - they sound like war horses maybe) and by the third generation the horses are something else. And they dont want that. They also mention a few horses in here who have very smooth gaits. Riding horses. Lots of talk in here (ideas) about breeding. That you cannot only breed for big cows or cows that give the most milk - you have to also think about hardiness of the cow and their intelligence so they know how to handle predators, their health. And some people dont realize that. They think amount of milk is the only important thing. But a tons of milk cow is bad if it has soft hooves that leads to sickness! But I suspect the main female in here, Persephine, will be going up that mountain as she has no interest in getting married at all. But its a mystery exactly how a Hillsinger calls a stallion.
