I loved Max Porter's latest novel, Shy and the boy for whom it is titled. Shy retreats into music at The Last Chance School to escape his memories. It's a wonderful, short gem of a book.

Here is my 4.65 rounded to 5 stars review of Breakneck
by Marc Cameron:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Marc Cameron has created another action-packed, suspenseful, and shocking crime thriller in this fifth book in the Arliss Cutter series. This tense, exciting, gripping, and high-octane book takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster.
Started rereading book 4 of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society series Ink and Shadows
by Ellery Adams love this series
Dorothy wrote: "Just started 'Old God's Time' by Sebastian Barry"I loved it, Dorothy! Hope you do too. 😊
If John Boyne had invented all of this, people might say it's too far-fetched, but, in fact, Crippen is based on a true story. A creepy 'doctor' and a curious tale.
3.5~4★ My review of Crippen
Fractured Oak is an unusual and entertaining mystery with an oak tree as a key witness who can't testify. Author Dannie Boyd mixes magical realism with a good police story and it works.
3.5~4★ My review of Fractured Oak
Here is my 4.5 rounded to 5 stars review of Loving the Wolf: A Fated Mates Romance by Paige Tyler:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Paranormal romantic suspense
Overall, this book is emotionally-charged, full of danger, and intense; with a terrific romance and nonstop action.
Aussie author Garry Disher can make even a bad guy (and Wyatt IS a bad guy) a compelling protagonist. Paydirt is #2 in the series but would be a good read on its own. Clever plot and dodgy characters.
4★ My review of Paydirt
Gabriel García Márquez's work is always unusual and intriguing. His short story, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is as thought-provoking as the title suggests. Worth a read. (He didn't win the Nobel Prize for nothing!)
4★ My review of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings with a link to the story online
Here is my 4.66 rounded to 5 stars review of Forgotten War
by Don Bentley:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This fourth book in the Matt Drake thriller series has an intensity that few writers can achieve. Overall, this fantastic novel is shocking, emotionally-charged, and riveting. Be aware that there is plenty of danger, death, intrigue, and violence in this story.
Before beginning reading our current April book, I read devil house by John darnielle; after I read the may selections I will likely read his other two previous novels. He is also the main singer and song writer of the band the mountain goats.
I am just about done with my 22nd for the year.
Here is my 3.73 rounded to 4 stars review of Rogue Rogue by Elle Kennedy: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a new adult novel full of angst and drama. There are plenty of secrets, unlawful activities, bullying and romance in this second book of the series. Once again, there are cliffhanger threads.
The Amazon Original Stories collection has been hit and miss for me. I was disappointed with The Days Before Us by Sejal Badani.
2.5~3★ My review of The Days Before Us
Just in time for his coronation comes King Charles, the attractive new addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I particularly liked the illustrations, many of which I've shared.
5★ My review of King Charles with illustrations

Here is my 3.81 rounded to 4 stars review of Bernice Runs Away
by Talya Tate Boerner:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
What a heartwarming and entertaining read!
Literary Fiction
I always enjoy acclaimed Aussie author Jane Harper's books, and I was glad that Aaron Falk's last outing in Exiles was such a worthy finale. I still hope she might revisit him one day.
5★ My review of Exiles
Author Ursula K. Le Guin is well-known to Sci-Fi readers. This very very short story is a shocker! The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas
4★ My review of ...Omelas with a link to the story online
I just finished reading “The Stolen Heir”, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to read the sequel. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I absolutely loved it, such a good book! <3

Here is my 3.23 rounded to 3 stars review of Just Add Coffee or Tea: A tea break read mix of my poems
by Julie McCarthy:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I needed a book of poetry for a challenge and selected this one. I enjoyed the diversity of the poems.
Another top Aussie author to add to my Tim Winton / Richard Flanagan shelf. I just read
Limberlost
by Robbie Arnott, and now I have to find Arnott's other books!
5★ My review of Limberlost
Acclaimed Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe is well-known in African literature for his novels and stories that include traditional tales.
Dead Men's Path
is one such very short story and is a delight.
5★ My review of Dead Men's Path with a link to the free story online. Enjoy!
Here is my 3.49 rounded to 3 stars review of The Ferryman
by Justin Cronin:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This post-apocalyptic science fiction novel is emotionally-charged, unique, intense, challenging, and thought-provoking, with fantastic world-building and great characterization. It’s creative and is captivating with its unpredictable plot. This was very close to a 4 star rating for me. The pacing in the first half of the novel is what lowered it to 3 stars for me.
I do love a good short story. Alice Munro's How I Met My Husband, like her others, is entertaining and easy to read, but there is always more to think about - good for bookclubs.
4★My review of How I Met My Husband
Treacle Walker by Alan Garner is a hurlothrumbo of a read, that's for sure. It's a wild world of folk and fantasy packed into a short book that was short-listed for the 2022 Booker Prize. Loved the whole experience. 😊
5★ My review of Treacle Walker
Just about done with Chicken Sisters. Likely about to begin The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.
Just finished number 24 for the year!
I had to check. I've read 39. I think this is the first time I've ever been ahead of you, Christine! I'm actually pretty far ahead of my goal for for the year at the moment. I'm currently reading The Wishing Game and The Housemaid. I think I'm close to halfway through both of them.
Here is my 4.28 rounded to 4 stars review of The Poisoner's Ring
by Kelley Armstrong:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This historical mystery with a time travel aspect is even better in the second book in the series.
Here is my 4.36 rounded to 4 stars review for Wolf on the Wild Side: Sexy Shifter Romance
by Terry Spear:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is the first book in the Run with the Wolf paranormal romantic suspense series. However, it is set in the same town in Colorado as some of the author's other series. Overall, the novel was intriguing, intense, and contemporary. It was well crafted, paced well, and entertaining; with the suspense that I enjoy in this genre.
Now finally reading The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan.
Jussi Adler-Olsen's novel Mercy is also known as The Keeper of Lost Causes. Police prefer to think of them as cold cases, and Danish detective Carl Mørck has been 'promoted' to the basement to reheat them.
4★ My review of Mercy
Whoo boy! Endgame: An Insurgency on Wall Street by Sheelah Kolhatkar is a cracker of a short story about the shortcomings of the Big Guys (my term), and how outsiders are challenging them. The author knows her stuff. Available on NetGalley until May 16.
5★ My review of Endgame:An Insurgency on Wall Street
