Melindam | 4427 comments I have to admit that I only saw Casino Royale & The Quantum of Solace.
I only read 1 JB book: Diamonds are forever.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments I've read all the original books, but none of the later ones written by other authors. Some are better than others, but they all entertained to some extent.

Ah... well crackers in bed... the crumbs!! But other than that... well I do have to admit that I do have a bit of a thing for Timothy Dalton in "Licence to Kill" hehe. In truth though, I just don't like Lazenby and I'm not much of a Roger Moore fan. The others though.. ;-)

The books, like Sammy already said, are fun!

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Melindam wrote: "I have to admit that I only saw Casino Royale & The Quantum of Solace."

"Casino Royale" is probably my favourite for some reason.

And I really like "Licence to Kill".

I watched them all again last year with a friend who had never seen them. One per week, and then off to cinema for the latest one. :-)

I've read 1 Ian Fleming (Dr. No) and in my view it was a poor 'procedural'. I made a mental note not to read others.

Sean Connery is my favorite bond...I'd eat crackers with any of the actors though.

message 314: by Melindam (new)

message 318: by Denise (new)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 271 comments Hi, everyone!

I'm Denise in California. I just recently finished my bachelor's degree after many years away from school. I plan on having time to read more now that I am not in school.

This is one of my favorite challenges and I'm excited to get started again.

This year, my goal is to reduce the number of books stacked by my bed. I plan on reading on paper more than I usually do, and I hope to pass books on before replacing them with new ones. Two books out before one comes in, I hope.

I look forward to getting to know you and working together.

Glad you enjoyed it! I thought it was really nicely done in the way he was nice about all the other actors. It could have so easily become a "look at me I'm better than everyone" book instead.

Denise (drams5) | 711 comments Sammy wrote: "I have a serious aversion to Daniel Craig... To the point that I actually stopped watching bond movies! :S"

Chrissie (haru_ran) | 149 comments Hi all, I'm Chrissie and pretty new to both Team Challenges and UNO in this case. I'm quite intrigued to give this a try but also a little nervous if I can be really helpful for the team. :s

Mostly I read by mood and pretty much always in my spare time (or lunch break for that matter). My favorite genres would be Thriller, LGBTQ+ novels of any kind (often Young Adult), Fantasy, Classics every now and then, and I love mangas.

It's safe to say that Oscar Wilde is my favorite author and I'm looking forward to read Collins' Complete Works of Oscar Wilde this year and the new thriller of Erik Axl Sund.

📕 Have you joined UNO before? YES, UNO is my favorite team challenge and this will be my third year playing.
📕 Favourite genre: Romance. Mostly any sub-genre of romance but not a fan of historical romance. Love suspense and thrillers also.
📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2023: Free Me (WITSEC, #4)
by Ashley N. Rostek. Fell in love with this series in 2022.

SO excited for book UNO! I think my favorite part is that it's a challenge to find my next read. I love that I have to choose for the challenge and not just blindly plucking one off my TBR list.

message 337: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Great questions, Mel!

📘 My earliest reading memory
Pollyanna (Pollyanna, #1) by Eleanor H. Porter - my grandmother had copies of Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables from when she was a child and I used to love reading the books. For whatever reason the Pollyanna series was my favourite. I still have her copies.

📗 My favourite book growing up

See above. haha. The other was Wuthering Heights - same reason, it was a copy from my grandmother's collection. There was also a French book I loved but I can't remember the name of it

📒 The book that changed me as a teenager

Tricky! I actually don't know... I don't feel like I read a lot as a teenager

📕 The book I came back to

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
took me a year to finish it originally. Then I ended up reading it two more times over the years. Love it

📘The book I could never read again
So many...! haha
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender comes immediately to mind.

📗 The book I discovered later in life
All of our weighty tomes! Including GWTW as discussed above

📒The book I am currently reading
Time of My Life by Myf Warhurst joyous memoir

📕 My comfort read
Agatha Christie is an easy go to. Same with Phryne Fisher or Daisy Dalrymple!

Daisy Dalrymple is a great comfort read. It has been my go-to Uno book to fill in for book series. I'm kinda sad because I'm on book 9 this year so it will be the last one to count.

hello, i’m grey! this will be my first time playing uno, i’m very excited haha! i really like romance, ya, fantasy, and mystery. i don’t really have any books that i’m looking forward to, mostly just working on my tbr :)

sorry if i don’t read as much as a lot of other members, i am still in school so i don’t have much free time. hoping that i can still have fun though!

message 341: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Karen,

Pollyanna is one of those books I have not read as a child (a Hungarian translation was not available at that time), but I may try it one of these days.

I read Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre at 13, I also came across them on my grandmother's shelf. :)

message 342: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie (haru_ran) | 149 comments I really like these questions, so here is my go :)

📘 My earliest reading memory
Lustige Geschichten by Vladimir Suteev
I honestly can't recall all the books I must've read once I learned reading but according to my mom and elementary school teacher I read all the time.
📗 My favourite book growing up
Das doppelte Lottchen by Erich Kästner
📒 The book that changed me as a teenager
Die Kastratin by Iny Lorentz
I think maybe this. I vividly remember the subtle LGBTQ+ scenes were my favorite.
📕 The book I came back to
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins
Recently gave it another try. It wasn't as awful as when I first read it but it won't ever be my favorite.
📘The book I could never read again
Das Bild by Stephen King
📗 The book I discovered later in life
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
My greatest discovery really.
📒The book I am currently reading
Die elementaren Strukturen der Verwandtschaft by Claude Lévi-Strauss Die Nacht gehört den Schatten Norwegen-Thriller by Daniela Arnold Verschwiegen (Forbidden Iceland, #1) by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir
📕 My comfort read
Christophs Street Day by Chris P. Rolls

📘 Favorite Fictional Relationship (Romantic or Otherwise)
The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses, #1) by Cassandra Clare
I just love Magnus and Alec so much.
📗 A book(s) everyone (including friends) seems to love, but you ended up disliking (hating) it
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins
I just don't feel the hype at all.
📒 A Book(s) You Feel Guilty About Liking
I don't think there is any reason to feel ever guilty about the books one likes (or even dislikes for that matter).
📕 Any books/authors that you feel you should really try, but have never got round to reading yet
It's more like I feel the need to read a few more classics and thus some authors would be on the list as well. Like more works of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, the sisters Bronte and the Mann family.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments One of my childhood favourites was a German one too! Momo by Michael Ende .
To this day remains one of the very few books I've actually read in German. And since I've not spoken/read German for a couple of decades now, it will probably stay that way, lol!

message 345: by Melindam (new)

Also The Neverending Story.

message 346: by Sammy (new)

Ah that's awesome!
Das Doppelte Lottchen had a few well done German TV adaptations as well that I enjoyed watching. But Erich Kästner had a hand for childrens' books no matter how you look at it. :-)

He was also the one who said: "Nur wer erwachsen wird und Kind bleibt, ist ein Mensch." Not a bad motto to have actually!

I've never read it but I remember that I was scared shitless with the movie o.O

Loved "All Dogs go to Heaven" though! (Mentioned as a scarring movie above.) Cried my eyes out every time but loved it.

message 349: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Love the motto, E!

Kästner just knew how to write about children to children.
Even as an adult I find his style and attitude very refreshing and I am so glad my son also enjoyed Emil. :)

I think we will soon start reading Das Doppelte Lottchen together as well. Very conveniently my edition has a yellow cover ;), but it contains the original drawings which I love.
