The first person to the end of their game board wins a prize (or if no one reaches the end, the person who is furthest along on December 20th at noon EST will be declared the winner).
Subsequent finishers receive varying levels of participation points depending on when/if they finish.
There will also be a consolation prize for the person who reads the most books on their board. There will also be a special consolation prize for the person who progresses the least on their board, but has read at least 3 titles for the challenge.
I made it to the halfway point of my first book and am ready for my next roll (I'm also firmly in the caboose, who'd want to leave with the cabana boys and the pizza).
Given I am sitting in the caboose... I don't expect to finish before year end but if I do, I see no reason I can't do another round of the board for myself - just not get or use any special advantages linked to rolls. After all, I was on Autodidacts for History Walk, and we did and entire 3rd loop just for ourselves! Whatever points I get or don't get- all the same.I will also say given my experience in another roll based game, the pace slows and speeds up randomly for everyone. You hit a section where the die give you nothing higher than a 3 time after time, and everyone around you seems to be only a couple rolls from finishing. Or you hit every slow read or chunkster on your board.
Amy wrote: "Ok - so who is in the Caboose? Joanne, Cindy, Theresa, Sue, Hilde, and me, although I am sitting by the door, because I read one book, and ordered another to soon arrive. May have to take my drink ..."Currently partying in the Caboose are everyone still on rolls between 1 and 12 - even if it is their second roll keeping them there. I have experienced the randomizer only letting you move 2, 3, or 4 spots roll after roll...you really NEED to hang in the Caboose then!
As of last evening, we have quite a crowd: Nicole, Lina, Hannah,
Doughgirl, Amy, BC, Cheryl, Chili, Theresa, BnB, Joi, Joanne, RachelN, Heather, DianeMP, Ellen, Sue, LibraryCin, MargieD, anaressa, Lize.
I hope JoAnne ordered enough pizza.
And HayJay - although I spotted her asking for a second roll. I asked for mine last week, and I have his number 11. The book should be coming from Amazon in a day or two but I am still stuck in.Aperigon.
The top number will keep creeping up....And you have to have posted your review of the book reading while in Caboose, not just get a roll taking you 'far' forward. More or less.

1-2 - Definitely staying in the Caboose with that roll! {Peeking around to see what's on the buffet table...}
I put a mix of books on my list - some I really want to read now, and some that I’ve been putting off forever. I’m getting a lot of the latter. I just landed on Anne of Green Gables. I am so not in the mood. Maybe if I read an edgy Tob book first, I’ll want a wholesome warm book after.

Thanks Anita.
Welcome to Subdue Caboose!Take a look around!

Even has Books and Bookshelf!

The Subdue Reading Nook is finished:
Furnished with 2 classic chaise:
After a long session interviewing that left me with an accelerated heart-rate (is it hot in here?), plus a mountain of drool rags, I introduce you to The Subdue Cabanna Boys!
First, meet Cowboy Tex
Next up is Firefighter Jose!
Last but by no means least, we have James, a debonair man about town who looks mighty fine in a tux.
I expect all to keep hands to themselves – gamers and boys! You are supposed to be reading! They have work to do - finding more comfy chairs, providing pillows and blankets, handing over travel cups when someone moves on before finishing their drink. And, of course, keeping the buffet, fridge, and bar well stocked!
My job is done. I've retired to the Victorian Chaise with my book and no one is to disturb me except James with regular refills.
While admiring Theresa's work on the caboose, I will request a roll as I am halfway through my current book.

Thanks, Anita! Technically, I wasn't (quite) at 50% when I posted... I was just commenting that I would be before I went to bed last night (and I was... just not online to request anything). Plus I haven't been online at all today until now, but I did finish my book today!
Not that a roll today or tomorrow would matter. I have a few books I need to get through before coming back to my next Subdue book, anyway.
ETA: I will try to be careful about how I word any additional comments next time!
The caboose looks lovely but the cabana boys would make it very difficult for me to keep my eyes on the book. Up here in the Second Class Lounge we get nothing but stale crackers and tap water in a dirty glass. I'm desperate to get up to first class where accommodations are supposed to nicer. I need another roll and a new bottle of Tums.
I just love the Caboose! I might just stay there forever, right by that fireplace - because I like warm. Cabana Caboose Gentlemen, fix me a drink. Apeirogon is taking a long time, and I am going to stay for awhile. My second Subdue book hasn't even shown up yet in the mail, and I need to start Island of Missing Trees by 1/22 as its my IRL Bookclub book on 1/29. I would have to get through Apeirogon rather soon and its sitting a top the Non Fiction Semi Chunkster This Will Not Pass! Who is hanging with me in the main lounge?
There with you Amy (reading for you darling, so it just seems right that we are hanging out)-I have moved the chaise to a nearby window, as too warm for me by the fire and I love gazing out the window while I ponder a book. Theresa may have a hissy hit-let me deal with her😉.
A 1-1 was rolled. Joy, after you finish your current book, you will need to move back three spaces please to your #38 book.
Joanne! I missed that the first time around! I am so delighted, and I can’t wait to see what you picked for me! Like this is gonna be so much fun to see what people do with this one. I’m really so tickled pink. Friends on the Subdue Train, my book to just arrive from the library and it’s nice and small and thin. Plus I hit 40% of Apeirogon! So there is light at the end of my tunnel! I’m inching closer to the caboose door into the luggage compartment. By the end of January, I will have asked for my third roll, and if I am counting right, I will have knocked off six candles! The more I get these birthday candles, moving, the more time I will have for Subdue, Trim, and Tag. It just happened to be a very full month, and I know I’m saying this on the 10th.
Nicole D. wrote: "I'll take a roll (I'm realizing why these books were on my tbr and not already read ...)"LOL. I know exactly how you feel! My last roll made me groan with dismay (I’m not in the right mood), so I’ll hang back and read something else. However I was really happy that it forced me to read the first book now, because I know I might never have read it otherwise, and it was well worth my time.
