I'm ready for my first roll! Late to the game, but still ready to play. Not in it to win it but just have fun getting to some books I've been meaning to read for years!
Kelly wrote: "I'm ready for my first roll! Late to the game, but still ready to play. Not in it to win it but just have fun getting to some books I've been meaning to read for years!"Ditto! I don't read very fast so probably don't have a prayer of winning, but I am using the game to choose some of the books that have been gathering dust on my TBR. And maybe have some fun in the game along the way :-)
A 1-1 has been rolled. I'm going to attempt to ascertain who the current leader is. Their next move will be to go back 3 spaces and read the book they find there. You must finish your current book and review it before you move backward.*****************************************************
Unsurprisingly (to me), Olivermagnus has the lead. Lynda, it appears to me that you finished your second book, and were awaiting the next roll.
So you should move back 3 spaces now, and read/review that book. Then you may go ahead with your new roll of 3-5.

Good thing all the books on my Subdue shelf are something I really want to read!

I'm joining you and Kelly on a slower trip through my game board and congrats to all the fast readers.
Rachel N. wrote: I'll join the not reading very fast group. I haven't even started my first book and some of you are on your third...."Ditto! I have a book to finish before starting my book for Subdue. I'm hoping to clear off some from the tbr, so it is much more for fun than a race.
I won't be able to start my first book until this weekend. Just finished a CHUNKSTER for my Feminerdy Book Club meet and discussion this weekend. Now have to finish a library book I took out for December flurries -- oops that ship sailed without me! So though I'm far from a 'slow reader' in most senses, I have periods of time with little to zero opportunity to read or too many reading deadlines creeping up on me. Then I can be bringing up the rear like a caboose!
Let's hear it for the Caboose Camp!
I am both unsurprised and blown away by how fast people are chugging through this. I am nearing the caboose camp, but do not want to be. Seems your mid brow reader is in the middle of the train and losing speed. I do however, intend to cross the board by the end of the year. I do see though that I am coming out very strong in January for Birthday Candles. Strong enough that I can slow that down for awhile and maybe knock a couple of these off in February.
I took a chance and put a nonfiction medical book on the list. I have a bunch and I rarely actually read them. It came up on my first roll! I finished it today and it turned out to be a great choice for me. The time element of the game kept me on track. So yeah!
I'm definitely in the slow start camp. And not at all surprised to see Olivermagnus take an early lead!
I am not surprised Olivermagnus is off to a flying start! If she ever wants to slum with the Caboose Camp for a bit - we welcome her with open arms! We have a lot of fun here in the rear where no one is paying us any attention!

I am such a fast reader I knew it might put me in the position of being pushed back. I am going on a family reunion cruise next month and having cataract surgery later this month, so I expect to leave the field to others soon. There are lots of other fast readers who will soon overtake me. I love the surprise of seeing what the dice roll land me on. The 3 moves back have me reading a new series that I really like so far so it's a good thing.
I'm also in the slow start camp - I made a start on my book yesterday, but at over 900 pages of quite small writing, it's going to take me a while to finish the book.

I have to look at what it is you are now reading - when I looked at yyour list when first posted, we share a lot of genres tastes - mystery especially. I filled mine with 99% lighter faster reads. I have heavy work and chunkster reading in first half of year at least.
Good luck with the surgery and enjoy the cruise!
A cruise for a family reunion sounds like such a good idea! No one has to cook or clean up - everyone can get together or go on separate adventures. I love it!

Slum it in Caboose Camp - lol.
I'm sorry about my 1-1 roll to Olivermagnus! The object is to get all of our books read on our list though, so "moving back" isn't like an actual game board, rather it forces the leader (in this case) to read a book they may not have rolled themselves? Newbie here!!
My first book roll is Democracy: An American Novel. There are many editions with many different page counts but the edition I have at home cannot be found on GR, is 190 pages, and was published in 1963. This is permissible, right? I bought this at a book sale years and years ago.
Here is a link to the edition I have: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363695817093
Hi Kelly,To be confident on the page count, we ask that you use the hardcover version as stated on Amazon. I checked your book, and it is 174 pages so you are good!
Kelly wrote: "I'm sorry about my 1-1 roll to Olivermagnus!..."No worries. I 'm enjoying the one I got sent back to and am halfway done already.
Rachel N. wrote: "I'll join the not reading very fast group. I haven't even started my first book and some of you are on your third...."I know, right!? Not sure when I'll start my first, but I have other challenges, too, so it takes time to get to them all!!
Anita, a new roll for me too please! Thank you!Shocked to be inching out of caboose camp. But I’m 70% through and my review will be written before Anita has a chance to say Randomizer. Which means I will be starting the Lager Queen by tonight!
I think I avoided putting any chunksters on this list, but I am reading some for other purposes this year. This is only one of the games/challenges I am doing this year and I don't know if I'll end up prioritizing one or just hoping they overlap enough times.

Wonderful. Thank you, Anita!

My book fits almost all of my challenges, however I just started and have 6 other books in the pile...slow and steady
Tien wrote: "I'm halfway through both my books - does that qualify me for a roll?"You need to be at 1.5 books completed before your request (basically a half book left to read before your next turn).
Thanks for the inquiry!!
New rolls for 1/6Amy 1-4
Chili 6-3
Hannah 1-2
Jen K 4-5
Linda C 4-1
NancyJ 3-1
Sabrina 6-4
Sabrina, your surprise advantage is an extra swap to use at your discretion.

There were 41 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
Joanne
So you get to move Joanne in accordance with the instructions to a new book. She will execute the move you choose on her next turn (after she completes the book she is reading now).
If you prefer not to do the moving, we can allow the randomizer to determine the move.

Question: how long after getting the roll with the special advantage that allows action involving another player does the person with the advantage have to decide how to use it? A day? A week? Before next batch of board moves recorded? Before next round of rolls announced?
Given player movements at the moment being pretty frequent, and where a player sits affects the decision by the advantage holder, I would think you would need a decision pretty quickly.
Say I got the advantage for 3-1 roll, and I decide to use it on the leader, whoever that is. In your example JoAnne is momentarily in the lead. But I know as soon as speedy reader Olivermagnus finishes and reviews her book she will move into the lead and stay there for a while. Can I wait until Olivermagnus moves into the lead before telling you my decision?
I think there needs to be a time limit to use advantages that affect other players.

Oh, I was just trying to figure out who is in last position, to bump them forward. I guess I didn’t read it carefully enough. I’m in the middle of something and I’ll be back in an hour or so if that’s ok.

🧙♀️How should I use this awesome power? Mwahaha.
Check your pm. 😁
Good questions, Theresa,I am going to expect a response quickly, within a day or so. I will reach out to the person via PM so hopefully reach them quickly too.
If they don't respond, I'll use the randomizer.
Please note the 3-1 role doesn't impact the person in the lead. It impacts a RANDOM player chosen by the randomizer.
