Yeeees, but what a different kind of story! ;D

message 18: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yes, the story is fascinating. I even like some of the “research” information. Some of the poems are pretty good. I am just after the part where Pessi attacked Martti and he now has eight stitches in his head. I’m not sorry that I paid $12 for the book.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments If you are into a diversion for Sherlock Holmes, I definitely recommend Bonnie MacBird's Sherlock Holmes Adventures. #1 is Art in the Blood. The first four have top hats on the covers.

I have read the first two books, but forgot to add the series to my list.

Thank you for the reminder!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Re your Mars Vacation and your post for the monthly challenge.
Did you enjoy A Princess of Mars? Are you going to read the others? I did not know that they were available in audiobook. Who was the narrator? John Carter's story always fascinated me. I think I first read it in middle school - a long time ago. I have read them several times over through the years.

If you ever get a chance, you should read the Pellucidar series books too. :o)

I have never read the Kim Stanley Robinson Mars Trilogy. I always found his writing long and dry.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I do not understand anything you have for these posts, but I love to come and look at your book titles!

I'm kinda surprised that you have found your way to this collection of threads. The entire mess is my worksheet for challenges I have taken on.

I thought I had them under control, until A group started SPACE and STAR TREK themes in August. I became a hapless joiner!!!

Glad you stop in with me occasionally. I enjoy seeing your name pop up.

p,s, If you click on the pictures in messages 8 an 9, it will take you the challenges and my related books.

The version of A Princess of Mars? that I listened to was Narrated by: William Dufris. I really wish I could have gotten the Scott Brick version, he has become one of my favorite narrators. I wasn't bowled over by the story but I gave it 3 stars. Its age shows a lack of sophistication. BUT SO WHAT, it was short and a simple escape. I will read the rest of the series, not all in a rush. Good short challenge fodder!

In contrast Kim Stanley Robinson Mars Trilogy was overly scientific and lacked adventure. I think it was written with an ecological agenda, not just a Sci-Fi escape. The back and forth character debates are what kept me reading. (Sort of like paper or plastic? Both sides of the argument.) Bottom line, I am not likely to read him again. I see that you feel the same!

I WILL give the Pellucidar trilogy a try. Thanks for the recommendation

Roz | 4528 comments I'm with Cherie when it comes to visiting your thread. I don't understand all (maybe any) of your symbols, but I'm fascinated by the organization. It makes sense now that you revealed that these are your worksheets for challenges. You may be a "hapless joiner", but I've always admired your prolific reader status. I come over here often to see what you're up to, reading-wise, and always leave with a much bigger tbr. Thank you.
