I mean spend a lot of time at your desk, on your computer (or at your notebook) writing. Butt on chair. Every day no matter what. Also learn how to push forward your story, how to research, and how to practice writing. Don't confuse one with the other. But write every day. Write what you love, because you can research what you don't know. And... get a good crit group of intelligent, supportive writers and meet regularly. Classes are good places to meet these potential group members. (less)

Hello!

Hello and I hope to meet fellow Sherlockians, mystery buffs, and those who love Victorian thrillers. When I read a book set in the past, one of the delights for me is the research, the sense of time and place: the technology, the foods, the news events, the social trends, the weather, the clothes, I want to be transported. In ART IN THE BLOOD,set in 1888, Holmes and Watson encounter Bohemian Pa... Read more of this blog post »

“It is well known that in exchange for visionary powers, artists often suffer with extreme sensitivity and violent changeability of temperament. A philosophical crisis, or simply boredom of inactivity, could send [Holmes] spinning into a paralysed gloom from which [I] could not retrieve him.”
Bonnie MacBird, Art in the Blood

“He looks a bit mad!’ I remarked. ‘Or perhaps ready to embark on some shady diversion.’
Holmes turned to me in amusement. ‘Possibly. One never knows with an artist.”
