It's also about a bunch of people wondering what to do about their parents, and what to do about their children, and what to do about money, and what to do about God. There's also a few bits about Led Zeppelin, and a few bits about zombie movies, and one slightly disturbing story about an orca attack at SeaWorld which is mostly true, and which I witnessed as a seven-year-old Brownie scout. (Yes. I was a Brownie scout. Wanna make something of it?)

I'm also the author of the novels Josie and Jack and Last Seen Leaving, both published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Those two do

Oh, please, not another List

Yeah. Sorry.

Anyway, I just posted my quick-and-dirty reviews of the best books I read in 2012. Which doesn't mean that they were published in 2012, just that that's when they came to to the top of the pile. I recommend all of them wholeheartedly.

ETA: Okay, in retrospect this whole "scroll down" nonsense is confusing. You can find the books and reviews on my "best of the year 2012" bookshelf. Yo... Read more of this blog post »

More of Kelly's books…
“Logic is what the devil likes most.”
Kelly Braffet, Josie and Jack

“Did you blame the men who fired the guns, the men who built the guns, or the men who invented the guys? Did you blame the men who had put those particular guns in the hands attached to those particular trigger fingers? When Nick's plane crashed into the ocean off Honduras at a speed which turned the ocean to unyielding stone, was it Western Mountain's fault, for sending him out?Nick's, for going? Anne's, for letting him? Did you blame the human beings who had made such a world possible, or the world that had made such human beings possible?
The answer, she thought, lying now in her missing daughter's bed (Was it Miranda, for pushing a limit any time she saw one? Anne again, for uprooting her so callously, for failing in some way to adequately console her after her father's death?), was that you had two choices: you could blame everybody, or you could blame nobody.”
Kelly Braffet, Last Seen Leaving

“Human beings suck the life out of everything that's beautiful.”
Kelly Braffet, Josie and Jack
