The structure of this novel reminds me of the 1939 War of the Worlds radio broadcast in that the novel is written as a series of news related interviews. The plot takes us to a Florida mega amusement resort, suddenly cut off from civilization and power by a hurricane. Those stranded at the resort resort to warring violent tribes, reminiscent of Lord of the Flies. While I struggled with my willing suspension of disbelief (issues of electrical power, how a hurricane could cut off a non coastal mega resort) it was a superior Halloweed read. Thank you Crystal!

Review: I decided to DNF this one because I felt like I was forcing myself to continue reading it instead of actually enjoying what I was reading. I just wasn't really invested in the storyline and was bored throughout the whole story. I also wasn't a fan of the relationship between the two main characters. I felt that their relationship was based more off of lust than love and I'm just not a fan of relationships like that. I think this just wasn't the right book for me.

Romance is a secondary plot line as main characters work slowly toward each other through series, not book. I like this series because of the tidbits of intellectual knowledge and language I pick up, as I enjoy the engaging story

This was a laugh out loud romantic comedy. I have not read this author before but now want to read more to see if her other books are as funny. The premise of this book is an older sister tries to sabotage her younger sister’s honeymoon because she thinks she has married in haste.

Lead female character, Amelie Hampton, is the columnists answeing lonely heart letters in The Marriage Gazette, after there were complaints at a marriage agency when she encouraged young women to seek love, not only financial security in their matches. Her professional path crosses with police detective Harold Radcliffe, sworn to remain a bachelor for life, wherein a murder investigation and personal relationship develop.
Firmly in that subgenre niche of historic, English, mostly mystery with a bit of romance, I enjoyed the book. Done as an audiobook from the ICU family waiting area, I could have used more humor...but that is not the book's shortcoming, rather mine.
Audiobook is narrated by Justine Eyre, whom I always love because of her stellar ability to do many distinct male and female characterizations with unfailingly perfect pronunciation.

Rating/Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In book 2 (of 6...only 5 in audio... arrgghhh) of Enoch's first contemporary romance-mystery series, our female main character (Samantha Jellicoe) honors her pledge to her new beau to go legit, and opens a security business. OOPS ! Her first client is murdered. Enoch wrote this series after many historic romances to mark the beginning of "no day job" period in her writing career. Very enjoyable. Not as funny as her historic books...but quite good.

Too lazy to find a beach book in all the Libby, Audible, HoopLa books I already can access, I picked this book via a Libby search for "beach," audiobook > 6.5 hours. It worked out well!
This book tells the story of a woman who is surprised when her empty nester stage marriage falls apart when her husband admits to have started a second family, days before they were to retire to her life dream...a SC beach house. She endures divorce, family issues with a mother and sister and buys a home on the beach on tiny Sea Grove island, SC.
Sub-genre: divorce fiction. Who knew that existed? Well, I do now.

This predictable story follows Angelique as she chases a London rake (Lord Faring, her love's cousin), rather than follow a parental edict to wait to wed. Not as funny as Enoch's later books, but still an entertaining Regency romance.
