LOVE Pippa!!! She's such an awesome amazing human as well! this was her first book as Pippa and it kicks off not only her Girl Band series but also her Copper Valley Thruster series.

I think that's about all the Easter egg stuff I know about Hottie. No one in this book is named after a reader or one of her admins or her favorite hockey player. I think the Settlers of Katan are further into the Thruster's series. I can't remember if she wrote them into this book. I do know that this was her "make or break" book for writing. The family had recently moved again and this book was a shower thought plot. LOL. Which - thank god. Otherwise Zeus and Ares would never have existed. Nor would George Cooney. Or Sugar Bear. Or Cod Pieces - the world's best fish and chips drive thru place. Nor are there mascot wars. Or angry ducks. ooohhhhh..... but there IS Bro Code. And I know the entire Pippaverse is waiting on stupid Cooper Rock to spill all of his "I don't talk to my author" secrets but *I* am waiting for Man Bun Davis to spill. It's because of 18yo hacker boy Davis that Bro Code had to break up. Changing their lives forever. And now he's some weirdo secretive persona who sneaks in and out of plots without saying much but leaving a lots of questions and a ton of change in his wake.

It is very obvious that I -
1- need more coffee
2- should really just open up my stupid outline and focus instead of selling you on Pippa's books LOL

Gemma and Easton had one perfect moment, but the outcome wasn't the same for each of them.
One runs away to make a better life, but fate had another plan.

Gemma had a terrible childhood and was never enough for anyone to stick around for, to stay through the good and bad or put her first above all. Despite all that she has made a name for herself and become what she had hoped to be.
Easton has essentially the perfect family. Loving and stable. Has never yearned for affection or to find his worth. He just belonged, always.

Together, these two found the love to beat all loves. It wasn't easy, but Easton allowed himself to be a safe place for Gem.

Review: I didn't realize this was connected to the Copper Valley series. I need to read all those now 😂. This was heavy on the humour and I wasn't sure about all the bratwurst jokes initially. As the book went on, I started to appreciate the jokes more. Pippa Grant is hilarious. I really liked both Ambrosia and Chase. However, the side characters also shone. I really just want to read more about Ares, Zeus, Eloise, and Willow.

Thrusty is AMAZING!

Eloise's book is The Hero and The Hackivist. If you think the bratwurst jokes were bad ..... Eloise and Rhett will push you off of a cliff with their back and forth 🤣

The "first" adult romance novel I that I "knew" my daughter read was the audio for Jock Blocked. We'd listen to it on the commute to her scout meetings. I lost track of the number of times I'd almost driven off the road laughing over that book (thank goodness it was back roads). The worst/best was the night I pulled up to the meeting site - my daughter was in Boy Scouts. It was an older troop. Mostly 7th graders and up. We still had the audio going as she "wanted to finish the chapter" the chapter that was on contained a collar that translated puppy barks. It was a gift from Eloise to Brooks for his new puppy. One of the scouts was waiting for my daughter and was giving her the "Come ON" annoyed boy face. She opens my sun roof (book on loud) stands up and yells "I'm just waiting for this chapter to end! It's hysterical! I'll be right there!" and then the collar begins translating all sorts of delightful things....while in a Drag Queen Bar. The meetings at that time were held out at a camp site about a mile hike from the road. I didn't realize that there were houses on the other side of the road from where our parking was. Until two parents stopped to listen to the book and I hear a voice from over the old rock wall - which I REALLY thought was just a relic - say "Can I get the name of that book? And the author?"

This wasn't the worst Pippa book moment I've had with her though. Coco Puff's collar was 8th grade and pre COVID.

Fast forward to 2021. Freshman year. The Hot Mess and The Heartthrob is due to publish. I was lucky enough to land an ARC. Hot Mess was like reading a love letter form Pippa to me directly. Ingrid's three kids were like reading my two splashed out all over the pages. I'd been reading pieces of the book aloud to my husband the night before. The hubs home office is right outside the daughter's bedroom. I was standing in his office door and we'd been talking about Hot Mess and the featured animal in it. We didn't realize two key things:

1- My daughter's Geometry class hadn't started, but it WAS an open chatting Zoom room. Her teacher that year was my old Geo teacher. He's also known my mom and my uncles since high school. This man KNOWS my family. It's ..... interesting some days.

2- She'd heard us discussing said said animal, a feral turned domesticated squirrel, the evening before.

All of a sudden I hear her say "I really want a drunk squirrel as a pet."

I opened her door. Asked "You're on mute right?" and she responded with "No. Oh hey Mr. Math teacher! My mom is here. The drunk squirrel thing is from a book she's reading for her blog!"

And that is the story of how I wound up purchasing three copies of Hot Mess and sending them to her math teacher, her advisor, and her guidance counselor while she was in that class with the subject line of "Please read the attached book BEFORE we discuss today's Geometry lesson."

My children are going to be be the death of me and our bank accounts. Pippa will be rich.

Review: I'd forgotten how much I loved this series and I need to check to see if the last book is Gian's. It's been a long time since I've visited Bridgewater. This series reminds me a lot of Melanie Harlowe's Cloverleigh Farms with the small town intertwined families and overlapping story lines. It also feels a little too realistic for me at times as Bridgewater could be my home (and current) town. Minus the lake. Well, sort of. We have a lake, but it has an amusement park on it. No houses.
I liked the story as the angst is low. The biggest issue is really tied to Evie tying her own dreams up with her grief for the loss of her parents. She and Tris make a great match as they both are dealing with feelings of not being enough within their families, but for different reasons. The balance each other's drive and competitiveness out while also enhancing it for each other. Being in the same demanding business as your romantic partner can be both fulfilling as well as a nightmare. It's wonderful to have someone understand the demands and the quirks of your profession - particularly those which demand an intense amount of time. However when you are both setting up different "shops" in the very same areas in a smaller town - it can be rocky to navigate. Bella did an amazing job at writing these two into a realization that they are competing, but at the heart of the future - they really aren't. They really are going in different directions. but they compliment each other. Tris' family is like my overbearing overly large overly involved family AND my husband's crazy Italian family. Again, like Evie and Tris, we both grew up in this town. Our families knew each other. Something I was blissfully unaware of until I brought him home to meet my family. This book had a lot of weird parallels to my own life - other than I would never in a million years ever date a friend of any of my siblings. Or a sibling of any of my friends. This book is why I have a love/hate relationship with small town romances.

Eventually I will need to move over and read Cecelia's main works. I haven't read historical or period romances in a long time. Her writing style and character creation in her contemporaries is so rich though that I have a feeling I'm missing out on some great reads.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: This was a fun and low angst read. It's the kinda read that leaves you happy and sated.

Brae Daniels needs money. That's the main reason signing up for a dating reality show happened. She was determined to choose the worse guy for the show. She refused to pick someone with any redeeming values because she was not falling in love on the island. A handful of questions will seal someone's fate and her own.

Jude Soren was dared into this. Can't believe his friends would do this him. This billionaire swede is determined to not get picked. His replies to the dating questions were so funny and blatantly sexual. He just knew he'd get kicked off and then kick his friends to the curb!
His answers were perfect. He is heading to paradise with a woman he doesn't know, doesn't care to know and will never fall far, ever, so why bother.

This was pretty darn funny. The banter and chemistry between these two was the perfect spark to ignite something. Something that neither one planned on, but that pesky fate had different plans.

Review: It's been a long time since I've visited this series. I'd forgotten how wonderful the writing is. It took me a little bit to dig into it only as I was trying to place all of the AB players in my head. I love the NZ map and the Kiwi Glossary included in this book but what would have helped a bit more as an AB family tree with each couple's books noted! The biggest thing that I've loved about the New Zealand escape books is how both the male and female characters are always written opposite to stereo types. Hugh and Josie continued along with this trend. I loved watching Hugh fall in love with his half siblings without realizing that he was. I also really really loved all the crazy occupations that Josie had thought up for him prior to finding out he was "only" a rugby player. She's another one who isn't stereotyped. She has the mind of a writer, the soul of an actress and the work ethic of a true farmer. Her loyalty is fierce. I wasn't sad to see her "long term partner" go. I think we all knew that was going south right from the start. I also enjoyed seeing how playing the opposite of her true self started to eat at Josie. Loved that she had found a true family in her "small" fame on the "tiny" island. For all that everyone made sure to point out how much she was giving up or letting go, no one was pointing out what she would leave behind if she gave acting in Aussie another go. I enjoyed the fact that Josie treasures the simple yet most intangible valuables the most. I also loved that Hugh began to realize he does as well. Charlie and Amelia were written dead on for their ages. Amelia makes me think of my daughter when she's having a regression day. There is a scene where Hugh imitates Amelia's eye roll, stomp and fluff of the hands reaction. All i could see in my head was my husband mimicking our daughter's eye roll and dramatic head drop back when we "don't GET it". Charlie is the same age as a nephew and written perfectly for a bit of an introvert who has had a massive amount of upheaval in his short life. Overall this book handles parental loss and the seriousness of setting up a steady, secure, loving, and constant household for the kids really well. It's not heavy handed, but it is a constant and front of mind topic for the adults in their lives at all times. I loved seeing how many adults Charlie and Amelia had in their lives so soon after the loss of their parents. Even Aunt Cora's leaving, while abrupt wasn't a forever. She is written in softly in parts and strongly. These kids knew before the adults knew that the adults loved them. That bit of plot build was gold. I always start off slow when I read this series as it takes me a bit to "hear" the accent. I spent a good day listening to Dean Lewis as I read. This book will forever be linked to "Waves" for me. The live version. I needed a version where Dean spoke so I could hear the spoken voice as well as his sung non suppressed accent. In another life I'll make playlists for all the songs I've listened to in order to help me "hear" characters better in my head.

And ..... now I can't decide!!!!
My book will be one of these -
Risk Taker (Mixed Messages, #3) by Lily Morton
Jane's Review of Risk Taker

Rocket Science (Love Logic, #1) by K.M. Neuhold
Jane's Review of Rocket Science

Power Plays & Straight A's (CU Hockey, #1) by Eden Finley
Jane's Review of Power Plays and Straight A's

Power Plays & Straight A's I may hold off on. Truitt on our PtP team has also read it as has Kirsten. So this book could be used in either challenge for a different task.
I could also use the series rule to read Puck Drills and Quick Thrills which has been sitting on my Meet and Greet carry overs for two rounds now.

As always, your mileage may vary (and I don't have a review up because I read it before I started using goodreads regularly), but I did not think Rocket Science was even remotely worth reading--2 stars for me. And I LOVED both quick thrills and risk taker. If I have a reason to ever re-read, I'm going back to the 3 loosely linked series that risk taker kicks off.

Oh that one looks good too!! Amanda and Laks have also read it and rated it well. I'll shelve this one in case I need it for another task. LOL

One of the mods (forget which one) also had read the entire O'Leary series which I'd started last summer. I really need to make a better MM shelf for myself. I tend to read them in fits and spurts as I do challenges and then when I want to find one just because I can't find ones that I really like. O'Leary is a small town setting, The first one was an age gap with the younger guy being a widower. The Juxtaposition of the younger one having gone through slightly harder life experiences than the older man was a nice leveler. The author also used the younger guy's grandfather in a great way to bring the two gents together.

The mod shelves - I actually "borrowed" the links from another team's task list when I was looking through what others were doing for the choice tasks. Research for the win!!

Thank YOU for the thoughts on the books I was looking at. I've started Risk Taker and I'm loving it. I had been leaning towards Rocket Science as I love geek/nerd stories, but when they aren't well written it's slog and just bleh. Risk Taker started off quickly and the pace hasn't stopped. Its super slow burn and I'm ready to sit the two main characters down and scream at them.

I'm going to save the CU Hockey read for further on in this challenge. It fits too many other tasks that we still have and I can use this book or Puck Drills, so I don't want to use this book too early in the challenge and then not be able to use it later on.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: Man, I really wanted to like this. I really did. I had this one on my kindle for a long while and finally gave it a go for a challenge. Not really a fan of daddy kink and this book just cemented that.

I didn't feel a love connection between Jasmine and Jafar at all. Their encounters were hot, but I just didn't feel the chemistry. This was smut filled, I can't deny that. I just wasn't feeling it, unfortunately.

Review: I pretty much give any book that makes me cry more than once 5 stars. That's my personal measure of a book. This read was one that I was sad to see end. I just wanted to keep living with Henry and Ivo. There is so much I loved in this book. From the broken family themes to the found family. I knew it was going to be gut wrenching when in the first chapter you have Henry running into an old photo of himself displayed in a random London gallery with Ivo's work only to come home to find a very very battered Ivo on their front stoop. The author handled everything that makes up Ivo's being with such grace and perfection. Another reason this is a 5 star read is that it meets my standard for proper portrayal of mental illnesses and proper treatment of them. Ivo is suffering from PTSD for sure, more than likely burn out, and is riding a very dangerous line of other lingering issues that more than likely would have sent him careening into an unintended death IF his boss hadn't pulled him from the field and mandated talk therapy. The author perfectly acknowledges in her story that a person may be required to go and meet with a person, but they aren't under an obligation to share with that person. Ivo is written as a very standard patient which made my heart both hurt and sing. There isn't a cure or a magic wand for everything. I enjoyed seeing him reach the point where he realized he had a separate person to leave all the scary stuff with who WASN'T Henry and that way it also left his mind a little less full. I adored how Henry is written as this incredibly sharp, intelligent lawyer by day - but once he's out of the office he is a pop loving, softy who is like a golden retriever set loose on the London gay scene. He's an absolute love. For all he also carries some serious trauma from his own messed up childhood (and should probably have his own Patricia {therapist}) he's somehow managed to find the space where he can let the bad things rest and just live. I very much want to know if Silas has his own book. I know the rest of the boys in the group all do, but Silas is a broody bit of a dark horse and I'd love to see what the author could set up for him. Landed gentry. Bisexual male who can't seem to connect with a fully in control of their emotions person, all alone on his somewhat large sea side estate. Yet - he also has a vet practice in London? That's a HECK of a commute there! This was the read I needed this week. I was getting bored with my standard stuff and nothing was looking "good". This book hit at the right time for me.

Review: This was really entertaining. Definitely a light read with lots of humour. I also appreciated the friendship Caroline and Simon built early on in the book and the tension between them. Caroline says what's on her mind, which was refreshing. The side characters were well developed enough that I'm curious to read the rest of the series.

~KarenH~ | 11343 comments Kat is away for the day today, but left next task info with me just in case, so here is your next task!

Task 6 - 18. Read over 750 pages in books tagged/shelved with 'favorite’.

Books selected for this task need to be tagged as ‘favorite’, variations of the work will be allowed. Combo tags will be allowed in context, ‘not my fave’ will not be allowed. Please include a link to the top shelves page showing your qualifying tag along with the number of tags and the page number of the top shelves page. The extra info is extremely helpful if the link is broken or the tag moves and both frequently happen! Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count.

I haven't checked your posts, Kat will do that when she's back, but she didn't want to hold you up for potentially a whole extra day.

The four of us COMBINED need to read over 750 pages of books that have a shelf marking them as "Favorite" and it can't be our own shelf.

So we all read a book we pick and if the page totals are 751 or more - we've met the page requirements.
And if they have any shelves labeled "Favorite" or a combo tag which includes "Favorite" then we've satisfied the task.

It doesn't have to come from the list I provided, that was just for ease of searching.

If you have something on your TBR and one of the shelves in the Top Shelves listings is "Favorite" or "My Favorites" or something similar to that it will count.
