Thanks for your picks Bobbi. I'm sure I'll read a few that are from my TBR. Of the two new selections, I've actually read one of them but I'll take a look at the other. It's not my usual genre but it does sound interesting... and a little scary for an old married girl like me!

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm so glad! I really liked the trilogy!!

message 85: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments Hi LaurLa!

Thanks again for my picks this month. I didn't get to as many as wanted to but I did get to a several. Here are my thoughts. I tried some new books that I enjoyed but didn't have on my radar so thanks for the recommendations!

Betwixt (Betwixt & Between, #1) by Darynda Jones Betwixt - 4/7/22 - *4 STARS*
I really liked this. Defiance is a more mature (kinda) character. I liked the world that the author is building here, the characters, and the storyline. I really look forward to delving more in the series. I think the author really has another winner here!

Hidden Away (KGI, #3) by Maya Banks Hidden Away - 4/10/22 - *4 STARS*
I would have liked this one more if it hadn't just ended so abruptly. Garrett was a bit of an enigma to me so it was nice to see how he was with Sarah. We all knew that things were going to blow up in his face, but what can you do? Anyway, he went back to her and then bam the story ended. I felt like it need to be fleshed out a little more. I know that we will see more of them in future books but I just felt let down by that ending.

Up until then, I loved it!

Sweetheart (Busy Bean, #1) by Sarah Mayberry Sweetheart - 4/13/22 - *4 STARS*
So what I thought was going to be a fluffy, funny story about a girl who sees a crush - that happened to be her sister's ex - again ended up being a whole lot more serious than I thought it was going to be. More serious than I'm used to this author being. But I really did like the story.

I could definitely understand Beck's reticence after everything he had been through. I'm glad he and Haley worked it out. But, I really hated Haley's parents. I know they came around in the end but I felt like it was too easy. So glad she found someone who was finally willing to fight for her in Beck.

The ending was just way too neat for me. I don't know if it's possible to see that kind of turn around in someone so damaged but it was a nice HEA!

A Week in New York (The Empire State Trilogy, #1) by Louise Bay A Week in New York - 4/19/22 - *3 STARS*
I usually love Lousie Bay books and this one's premise was good but the dialogue was just a bit too cheesy for me, especially with the sexy talk.

The thing that saved it for me was the fact that there were Pretty Woman references in there and I adore that movie.

I was also put off by Sebastian York trying to do a British accent. I've criticized him before for NOT doing accents when he's narrating and now I know why he doesn't!

Payback (Harris Brothers, #6) by Amy Daws Payback - 4/18/22 - *4+ STARS*
Ok so this wasn't technically on the list, but I had the next one in the series on there so I had to read this one first! I wanted to love this one and give it *5 STARS* but I just couldn't get past what Allie did. The entire book it was such a black cloud over the happiness and sexy times these two had. So when it blew up in her face, I just want so raw from wanting to strangle her the whole book, I didn't know how to feel.

BECAUSE OTHERWISE THIS BOOK WAS FREAKING PERFECT! Loved it so much. Love Allie and Roan and was so bothered by the fact that she was ruined everything.

I know that was probably the whole point the author was trying to portray but it was just hard for me to see that a person who worked in PR would be that stupid!

Anyway, I love this Harris family. Seriously, I so do! Any time I get to spend with them is awesome. So I'll try to get over my issues with this facet of the book to appreciate this wonderful family and getting to spend time with them again.

The audio of this was fantastic. The epilogue was over the top Harris all the way too.

Blindsided (Harris Brothers World #2) by Amy Daws Blindsided - 4/24/22 - *4 STARS*
I liked this one but I was so mad at Mac when he screwed things up with Freya. I was so glad that his granddad got him to get his head on straight!

But, the friends-to-lovers trope coupled with Amy Daws and her hilarious dialogue and situations made this what I expect from the Harris Brothers and Company.

I look forward to the next book, but I'm a bit sad too because it will be the last one for me to read in the world that I've truly come to adore!

Two Witches and a Whiskey (The Guild Codex Spellbound, #3) by Annette Marie Two Witches and a Whiskey - 4/29/22 - *4 STARS*
There was a lot happening with this one! I was so happy with the way that it ended up. Tori is so cool and even though I can't believe half the situations she ends up in, I certainly wouldn't mind having her fight by my side.

I was disappointed that she didn't end up with Zach in this one. Is that a possibility though? Who knows when we will see him again but I'm definitely team Zach.

I'm interested in seeing what's going to happen with Tori's new mythical status. I feel like things are just beginning for her. I can't wait to continue with this series!
