The Empire State Trilogy #1

A Week in New York

Rate this book
Anna Kirby is sick of dating. She's tired of heartbreak. Despite being smart, sexy, and funny, she's a magnet for men who don't deserve her.

A week's vacation in New York is the ultimate distraction from her most recent break-up, as well as a great place to meet a stranger and have some summer fun. But to protect her still-bruised heart, fun comes with rules. There will be no sharing stories, no swapping numbers, and no real names. Just one night of uncomplicated fun.

Super-successful serial seducer Ethan Scott has some rules of his own. He doesn't date, he doesn't stay the night, and he doesn't make any promises.

It should be a match made in heaven. But rules are made to be broken.

A Week in New York is the first in a series of three novellas.

★★★★ ½! A Week in New York, book 1 of 3. Anna agrees to a week-no-questions-asked affair by serial seducer Ethan!

“He found his rhythm and I could do nothing but comply. Right then, I would do whatever the hell he asked me to do. And he was the sort of man who would ask for everything.”

Novellas in The Empire State trilogy should be read in order:
Part 1: A Week in New York
Part 2: Autumn in London
Part 3: New Year in Manhattan

A Week in New York (book 1) follows Anna Kirby in her attempt to escape a painful break-up. She’s traveled with her best friend and her boyfriend to New York for a week. While out for drinks she encounters handsome and sexy playboy and businessman Ethan Scott.

With a few stipulations they end up having a one-night stand with mind-blowing sex that leaves them both wanting more. Thanks to Ethan their paths cross again and they agree to no-questions-asked sex for the remainder or her week-long stay in New York.

The story goes on to follow them, getting so much more, in and out of the bedroom for the best sex of their lives and a budding romance doomed before it begun…

 photo tes1 H BS by sb_zpscl40ooxs.gif

Eight words to describe Ethan Scott: Charming, elusive, calculated, perceptive, reflective, commanding, non-committal and enigmatic.

“And I didn’t do real. Not with women. It was only ever sex. Great sex. Lots of sex. Lots of women. But nothing more. More than that was too complicated, and rule Number Three was I didn’t do complicated.”

 photo tes1 he BS by sb_zps69ojidx6.gif

Eight words to describe Anna Kirby: Sweet, easy-going, wounded, romantic, reflective, naïve, insecure and adventurous.

“She looked so incredible lying there, disheveled, only just recovered from having my dick bring her to her first orgasm, but still ready for my tongue to take her to her next.”

A Week in New York, told from dual POVs, has the perfect blend of sexual tension, smut, secrecy and a budding romance. The only reason I did not give it 5 star is due to the novella length. I can easily see this being a 5 star serial for me. Part 1 does not have a cliffy, but it ends as abruptly as it started leading us right to part 2 Autumn in London for the continuation of the story.

Entertaining plot! Excellent story-telling! Swoon-worthy Ethan Scott! Off-the-charts sex against furniture and walls! A very promising start to serial!

“The entire day could have been measured by how far away either of us was from our last or next orgasm.”

★★★★★ 5 stars....No Bullshit ;) ★★★★★

So,Since I've read the WHOLE series before working on this review, I may refer a bit to character development in Book 2 & 3...But Dont worry ! NO SPOILERS, I promise ;)

First of all the chemistry between these two ? OFF CHARTS ! And Ethan ! Jesus.H !

With that being said...A Week in New York is an amazing beginning to the Empire State series.The writing and the characters of the book had my attention from page One.

Even though the Friends-with-benefit Plot is quite over done in novels & movie now-a-days.I felt as if the author somehow managed give a fresh perspective to this kind of situation,by allowing both her characters to stay honest about where things were going with them..

"No Promises,no amigunity,no bullshit"

Book ONE is light funny,and fun with very little angst that saved for the last 5 percent...But beware Book 2 and 3 Have LOADS of the latter,as Ethan & Anna begin to deal with

Its true that while building a relationship,Lies have no place there at all...But what about white lies,those lies that you say to protect yourself from possible rejection ? Do they count ?

Anna was fantastic in Book One...But as I moved on to book 2 & Book 3 I started getting a bit frustrated with her and her insecurities...Not because she was being overly unreasonable but because I hated how her doubts kept hurting my Ethan :(

Would I recommend the read ?
Defiantly ! I feel like this series is one of those hidden gems no-one has quite discovered fully yet....

Will I be continuing the series ?
Irrelevant question since I'm through with it already ;)

Will I be reading more from this author ?
A definite yes, Excited to add more books to my TBR as always ! ;)

Well, this was ridiculous. Guy and girl meet in a city and sleep together, agreeing that it’ll be a one night stand and nothing else. It’s quite simple, there are a thousand books that start this way. And I loved some of them, so that's not the problem. The problem is I can't find a single thing I liked about this book.

First of all, they both agree that it’ll only be sex, but 24 hours later they’re on their way to a restaurant, holding hands ? He “never felt the urge to hold a woman’s hand before” and she “feels strange around him”. OH MY GOD this is so ridiculous

Then there was the writing… Maybe it’s because I just finished two books that were perfect is terms of writing, but this one made me roll my eyes SO HARD. There was no explanation to why they suddenly wanted to see each other again, just the cliché “I can’t help myself”. The sex scenes were quick and not sexy. The dialogues were boring.

When Anna Kirby takes a weeks vacation in New York with her best friend she just wanted a one night hook up to help her get over a recent break up. Successful business man Ethan Scott was looking for the same that night because that's just how he likes it, no complications just a night of sex. But one night wasn't enough for either of them and after deciding to spend the rest of the week with each other uncomplicated just got very complicated. Loved the characters and the sexual tension between Anna and Ethan, with an enthralling and addictive story line. Narrated by the brilliant and sexy Sebastian York and the talented Saskia Maarleveld.

Sometimes you get what you asked for...

I received a complimentary copy of A Week in New York for signing up to Louise Bay's newsletter. I was quite stoked about it and quickly downloaded this story and got started straight away. Now, being the sassy reader that I am, I went in completely blind. Even though I'm only a newly registered Louise Bay fan, I was completely confident that I would enjoy the story. Saying that, I probably could have done myself a favour by knowing that there was more than one book in this story. But, you take that risk when you go in blind.

I really enjoyed this story. A Week in New York is my type of guilty pleasure. A little like reality but with a touch of make-believe. It's the type of story where I can sit back and think...if I had a different life, maybe I'd be courted by a rich, successful and sexy man. I'm lured by the idea of fancy restaurants and hotels. I like the idea of being beautiful, having beautiful clothes and being taken to beautiful places. It just seems so luxurious and not MY reality.

Obviously, I choose to ignore the workaholic part of the rich, successful and sexy man. I don't acknowledge that being beautiful is bloody hard work and takes a lot of sacrifices (hair, beauty treatments, regular exercise, and a healthy diet). I forget that I'm usually frugal, conservative and hate food waste, and hardly blink an eye at the astronomical dinner bill. After all, it's not MY reality.

I finished the story and got exactly what I expected...which left me a little sad. The hero got what he SAID he wanted and the heroine got what she SAID she wanted...but...I wanted more for them. I knew they deserved and needed more. As luck would have it, there was this little treat waiting for me at the end of the story...

The series continues in Autumn in London

Guess what I'm reading next?

4 - No ambiguity. No promises. No bullshit. Stars!

Louise Bay has literally taken all the good plot points and character traits from some of my favorite romances and turned them into the Empire State Series.

There wasn’t much new or unusual about the story, (and this review is for all three instalments) but what I liked about Anna and Ethan, was that they were both established adults in their own rights. Anna was as confident as Ethan, and the drama and storyline was solely focused on them rather than secondary characters.

"I have rules…"

One lives in London the other New York, and what starts a one night with no strings whilst Anna is on vacation in the Big Apple, develops into one week of fun, but still with no strings. With Anna’s return to the UK they part amicably and go back to their lives.

But fate has other plans for this couple and the three novellas in this series chart the building of a relationship around a couple that are falling in love with each other, the best thing about it, I think as a reader you see that they are in love before they even realize it themselves.

"Sometimes I forget that I didn’t know you my whole life…"

This series is what I would call easy to read and stress-free, the author hit the pitch between the two of them perfectly, in that both are shy of commitment and as each new twist in the plot plays out one or the other of them steps further out of their comfort zone to embrace the relationship developing between them, it was a bit like a game of leap-frog at points with one of them always being a little bit further along than the other.

"You couldn’t be any more beautiful to me than you are now."

Low angst, high emotion and plenty of sexy times, this is an author who I am glad to have discovered. I may be a little late to the party, but let’s just say my one-click budget was totally blitzed this week in buying the rest of this authors books!

"I’m glad we found each other…"

A Week in New York is part one in a new trilogy by Louise Bay. This was a fast, fun, steamy read and I really enjoyed it. And did I say it was steamy because it was!

The story centers around Anna Kirby and Ethan Scott. Anna is on vacation with her best friend Leah in New York City. This is her chance to get away from her latest heartbreak and just enjoy some time with her friend. During a girls night out Anna meets super sexy stranger, Ethan. Maybe a vacation fling is just what she needs to get over her broken heart but she has rules. Rules she needs to keep in place so no one including herself gets attached or hurt. That’s fine with Ethan, he has rules of his own. He doesn’t date, no sleep overs and he doesn’t make promises of more to any of the girls he sleeps with. Anna and Ethan agree to a week of fun, just “enjoying each other’s company” if you know what I mean. ;) Feelings or attachment shouldn’t be a problem when they only have a week to spend with each other right, wrong!

I really liked the chemistry and the easy way Anna and Ethan had with each other. Louise did a great job of bringing humor into the book without making it feel juvenile. She really made the characters feel real. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book. I need to know where Anna and Ethan go after their week together.

This book was so good. The writing was great, and the duo POV totally believable. This is the kind of book I love to read - a well developed and interesting plot with amazing sex.

Anna is an amazing girl, funny, sexy and very sassy, but unfortunately her luck with men wasn’t great. Ethan on the other hand is a player, handsome of course, as well as knowing all the tricks of bringing a woman pleasure. I loved how they met. It’s funny how in some books I’d have found it very unlikely and annoying, but in this book, it was perfect. It fitted the plot perfectly. A one night stand is exactly what Anna needs and exactly what Ethan is looking for. They had instant chemistry, and the sex was way too hot. I loved how they broke all their rules and allowed themselves to take and experience they both wanted and needed. Even if It was only for a week.

The secondary characters were all great. Even though Ethan and Anna refused to accept it - their friends, Leah, Andrew and Mandy saw the potential of a great relationship there. Even if it was only for a week.

Although it isn't a cliffhanger, this isn't the end of the story. I can't wait to read the second book of the trilogy. I'm so ready for more than a week.

Favorite quotes:

“She lived 3,000 miles away and we’d known each other a week. She’d seen parts of me I’d never shown anyone, but we’d still known each other for a week. And I’d never had a relationship with a woman that lasted more than four hours. A week was a lifetime in my world, but in reality it was still a week.”

“No promises, no ambiguity, no bullshit.”

Oh my, this book is HOT! HOT! HOT! This is the first book I've read by Louise Bay and it did not disappoint. Now, I am officially addicted to her writing!

Not all writers have the ability to write steamy, intimate, erotic moments without sounding methodical. Louise Bay has a brilliant way with words, not just dialogue and character development but erotic scenes as well. Each erotic scene flows so well, has depth and meaning, revealing something new about the characters--that's difficult in such a short book.

2'5 Estrellitas.

A Week In New York is an addicting, romantic read that will sweep you off your feet.

This book was FANTABULOUS! Yes, fantastic and fabulous all in one! It was full of romance, some super sexy and erotic scenes, and kept me hooked to every single word on every single page.

Anna is trying to get over a nasty break-up, and in walks Ethan - a super hot, super rich man who can fulfill her every desire. But, she has rules! She isn't going to go into another relationship, since the last one didn't go to well. Yet, something builds between them - something hot and desirable. A Week in New York follows these characters and their antics while Anna is in New York (hence, the title).

The book is mega hot - there's sexy, erotic scenes that will get your heart racing! It's not the dirtiest or most R rated I've read, but it's still really hot! The down and dirty time is written well and will get you heated! There's more sex than romance, but it is a nice fit between these two characters. Their chemistry makes this sort of relationship work well, but that's because Louise Bay is a fantastic writer. She develops their relationship really well within the constraints of one short novel. I honestly can't wait to see how this pair develops in the future installments.

I also really enjoyed the references throughout this novel - they are romantic yet nerdy references that really added to the story. It makes it feel more real than it is.

My only con is - WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT ENDING?! A cliffhanger?! Louise Bay wants to kill me! I HAVE to keep reading this series after she had me fall in love with these characters and want to know what happens to Anna and Ethan! What a jerk she is! Being a good writer and making me want more!

I would highly recommend this sexy novel to anyone who loves romance and erotica. It's also a short read and highly addicting, so if you're looking for a simple novel to read in one sitting - you've found it!

Five out of five stars! Holy heck, that was hot!

I read this book from the anthology "A Love Thing".

2,5 🤔😔⭐️s

This was one of the first series I picked up when I started reading books written in English language. I was so excited with that I didn’t hesitate to rate it with 5 amazing stars.

4 years later I re-read it and noticed that character development was nonexistent as well as a connection between them, the plot was limited but the sex department wasn’t lacking at all…

I was really taken by surprise with this one. The blurb reads like so many other stories with that 'no strings, just sex' plot, but this was so much better than most of the others of that type I've read.

It was the romance that was paced perfectly with both characters fighting the attraction they felt for one another. It felt so authentic, like a fresh perspective on what's become, for me at least, a fairly over-used and often stale plot. I got the the feels from this, just so sweet and lively, and featuring some realistic, likeable characters.

The smut was incredibly hot and he is a dirty talker so I was happy as Larry. This is the first in a series of three and I'm really looking forward to reading more about them

I think that the title says it all!!

It all started as a vacation fling for Anna and Ethan is the hot stranger that ender in.

They both have their rules-rules that they both break eventually. The chemistry between them is great, with smart lines and some dirty mouth and the loves scenes are steamy!!

At least I have the second book to continue, because I definitely want to know if they will both admit that they have feelings for each other….

Wow! I loved the start to this series! Ethan and Anna are sexy, HOT, and fun!

After a bad break up, Anna goes with her friend, Leah, to New York for a week. There she meets a stranger at the bar their first night and ends up going home with him. It is one of the hottest nights of sex she has ever had.

“All night. We’re going to fuck until you’re sore and still begging for more.”

And since Ethan doesn’t do relationships and Anna isn’t looking for one, they come up with a set of rules and the decision to spend the week together.

Neither of them expected the chemistry or feelings that would develop throughout the week. The mind-blowing sex is out of this world!! HOT, HOT, HOT!!

“We need to get in the room,” he whispered. “Or I’m going to fuck you right here.”

Arghh, the ending!! I need more, like, yesterday. What is going to happen with Ethan and Anna? Give me more, please!?! ~ Tiffany, 4.5 stars

~~~
A week of unbridled, uncomplicated sex? Is that really possible? In A Week in New York, the first novella in The Empire State Trilogy, we meet Anna and Ethan, two people trying to make that work.
Anna and her best friend, Leah, are visiting New York from London. Anna is working toward mending a broken heart from her latest break-up, and in order to protect her heart, Anna has a set of rules for a quick f*ck.
Ethan has a similar rule set, but he’s willing to forget all about them when he meets Anna. Always mindful of the week limitation, Anna and Ethan embark on a brief, intense relationship.
I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between Anna and Ethan is off the charts. I felt like I was a fly on the wall watching Anna and Ethan’s romance and relationship blossom. As a reader, you witness the two of them fight so hard to keep their feelings for each other buried, but you can’t help but root for them to pull their heads out of their asses and try to establish something more.
I found myself swept away by their undeniable desire for one another and how hard they each battled internally to keep their feelings masked. And, whoa, the sex scenes were damn hot too…
Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait until Autumn in London is released. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars
This book is the first part of a set of three novellas by Louise. The author is relatively new and has given us Faithful and Hopeful; standalone stories that consist of characters with cameo roles and need their story told.
This is about Anna Kirkby. She is Leah Thompson’s best friend who we saw in Faithful. Anna is nursing yet another broken heart. Leah has invited her to spend the week in New York as she wants to be kept company while Daniel is working. Anna jumps at the chance. Getting away from London, her flat and complications of the male variety, which I might add, she is not short of, could be the solution! Anna is beautiful, sassy and seems to attract the wrong type of men.
Anna feels this is a great way to get over her recent break up. It’s the ultimate distraction and she plans on having the time of her life. Even if it’s only for a week in the Big Apple, a summer of fun may include a stranger; however, Anna has rules. Protecting her heart and bruised ego is utmost. There is to be no information exchanged, no usage of real names and no stories about their lives are to be divulged. By fun she means no strings attached. Sex; just lots of it!
A mysterious stranger enters into the scenario. Ethan. He doesn't date, doesn't stay the night and makes no promises. He is hot and successful and just happens to spot Anna in a bar with Leah. He makes himself known where Anna instantly tells him what she wants and that there are rules. That seems to make a compatible arrangement but don't forget the saying; “rules are made to be broken,” right?
I do not want to give away the story but rest assured, Louise has done it again and created a fantastic read. Totally full of hotness and something you know in your heart maybe developing; nevertheless, Anna will be going back to the UK which is 3000 miles away. What more could possibly happen? I'm impatiently waiting. There is a song used during the story which I will not divulge, or what the scene is during the track, but I will say this, it’s one of my all-time favourites! As soon as I read it, I put the track on and went back to read that part again.
This deserves every one of the stars rewarded and more. Louise certainly can tell a story. Not only bringing us hot men, but also strong female characters that have the like ability factor. Congratulations Louise on your latest offering. You certainly have a real talent and I hope you continue to tell us great stories. Bravo; the bar has been raised if that was at all possible!
4.5
A Week in New York is the first novella in a romance trilogy by Louise Bay. This is the first book that I have read by Louise and I can already tell I am hooked on her writing. I want to read all of her other books immediately. Her author bio says that she writes the kind of romances that she likes to read- sexy and fun. That is a perfect match for me. I also really like that these are novellas. It is kind of like a romance serial but each of the books is longer. More pages to enjoy. I loved A Week in New York. I am so glad that I signed up to be a part of the second leg of the blog tour too because I already know waiting until December or January to buy the book will be too long for me. I need to know what happens next with Anna and Ethan.
What I liked about Ethan was how he didn't even bat an eye about losing his rules for Anna. She is the girl that got under his skin and made him want more. He is a very casual guy, and normally that is enough for him, but the more time he spent around Anna you could see a shift in his behavior. Technically it happened rather quickly in the book since the whole novella is only 112 pages, but it didn't feel too quick. I thought Louise Bay did a fantastic job with her character progression and pacing. The whole thing felt very natural.
Anna has been burned in the past- although she never really told Ethan what exactly happened with her ex- and so all she is looking for right now is casual. She was more determined to stick to that than Ethan was, which I found funny. This story kind of reminded me of Elisabeth Grace's Indiscretion series, which I absolutely loved. I want to get a little more into Anna's romantic past in the next installment. I want Ethan to be able to pull it out of her, but that is the only minor complaint I had about the book. It was the perfect story to get lost in for a quick romantic fix. Once all three books are out, I can easily see myself going back and re-reading them all right after another. They are that good.
Short steamy story with two awesome characters. This book captured my attention from the start and so kept me wanting more.
Ethan Scott has rules. He doesn’t date, he doesn’t stay the night and he doesn’t make any promises.
And Anna has is own rules that there will be no sharing stories, no swapping numbers, and no real names. Just one night of uncomplicated fun.
But rules are meant to be broken....
“You’re so beautiful. Like a perfectly wrapped present that gets more exciting as the layers come off.”
Super hot, fast read. Loved it! Most of the time when I read it, I had a smile on the lips. Anna is adorably funny. Great couple.
No promises, no ambiguity, no bullshit.
2,5. El caso es que creo que es problema mío pero estas historias con tanta carca erótica repetitiva y similar no es lo que más me gusta leer últimamente. La historia es básicamente eso y dos personas que se atraen mucho desde el minuto uno. Te diré que si te gusta este género, adelante. Reseña completa en https://www.lanarradora.com/2020/03/r...
goshhh wow...
a random unplanned one night stand turning into a fling.
I cannot ask for more anna and Ethan's story seems good on reading but why do it has to end on a cliffhanger..
I so badly want ethan to run back to London for anna and ask her to actually date him.
I'm excited to read the second book to see where this story is heading.
«No promises, no ambiguity, no bullshit» -Και κάπως έτσι αρχίζουν όλα…
Το A week in New York είναι αυτό ακριβώς που λέει ο τίτλος του, μία μονάχα βδομάδα για τους πρωταγωνιστές ώστε να γνωρίσουν ο ένας τον άλλο και να ζήσουν την αμοιβαία έλξη που νιώθουν και εξίσου λίγος χρόνος για να τους γνωρίσουμε, αλλά που πετυχαίνει να μας κάνει να τους αγαπήσουμε.
Η συγγραφέας δεν μας δίνει πολλές πληροφορίες για τους ήρωές της, αλλά αντίθετα αναγκάζει τους αναγνώστες να έχουν μια σχέση με εκείνους, όπως έχουν οι ίδιοι οι πρωταγωνιστές μεταξύ τους. Μια σχέση στην οποία ανακαλύπτεις ότι δεν χρειάζεται να ξέρεις πολλά πράγματα για έναν άνθρωπο ή για τη ζωή του, αλλά αντίθετα αρκεί να περάσεις κάποιες στιγμές μαζί του, όπου τα μικρά πράγματα και οι μικρές ενδείξεις που σου δίνει μπορούν να σου αποκαλύψουν αυτά που θες.
Ο Ήθαν και η Άννα είναι απίστευτα συμπαθητικοί, ερωτικοί και μάλλον υπερβολικά προσγειωμένοι. Ώσπου οι άμυνές τους καταρρέουν...
Το πρώτο μέρος του The Empire State trilogy ήταν εισαγωγικό και ήταν μια θυελλώδης γνωριμία στην οποία ζήσαμε τον Ήθαν και την Άννα, νιώσαμε τα συναισθήματά τους, αλλά δεν μάθαμε περισσότερα πράγματα για τη ζωή τους. Είμαι σίγουρη ότι αυτά θα μας αποκαλυφθούν στο δεύτερο μέρος, καθώς έχουμε και αλλαγή σκηνικού και… Ηπείρου.
Είναι γεγονός ότι στο δεύτερο μισό του πρώτου μέρος ήθελα λίγη περισσότερη εξέλιξη, αλλά αυτό δεν μου στέρησε ούτε μια στιγμή την ευχαρίστηση της ανάγνωσής του.
«My beautiful Anna, i ‘d never break a promise to you» -Και κάπως έτσι οι πεποιθήσεις των ηρώων ορίζουν την τύχη τους…
Suelo poner dos estrellas cuando he sido capaz de terminarlo aunque no me guste, no es que me moleste o no me gusten las escenas de sexo en un libro, es que aquí son innecesarias cada 5 líneas, no hay otra cosa, no hay conflicto, no hay nudo, es una sucesión de hechos que se relatan con muchísimas escenas de sexo que no son ni siquiera originales, repetitivas hasta las saciedad, en fin a 2 * no llega
5 Crazy Ass Stars!!!!!
Louise Bay, I luuuuuuuvvv you! This was a fantastic start to what I can already see being a great series. I absolutely loved it. I LMAO when I read "vagina farmer". That's classic! Ethan has definitely made it to my BBF list! I can't wait for the next installment!
