The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙🖤 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍 Character development: 😠😘🤓🥰 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Serenity (a.k.a. Ren) - she had lived on the streets for years, but was done with that life. On her 21st birthday, she goes to a bar for a drink, opening and closing the locket she was given by her mother the last time she saw her. When her mother told her to never take it off and to keep it closed until her 21st birthday. She didn’t know what her mother meant, she figured her mom would know when she opened it and come find her, but nothing happened.
The Heroes:West, Nate, Aaron, Marco - West is a wolf shifter and has auburn hair with strands of silver and forest green eyes. Nate is a bear shifter with a buff, brawny chest, dark brown eyes, rich chestnut hair. Marco is a jaguar shifter with blue eyes, spiky black hair and a sexy scar through his eyebrow. Aaron is an eagle shifter with broad shoulders, strong jaw, and pale blonde hair.
The Story: Ren was in the bar drinking her birthday away, waiting for her friend Kylie to show up, when guys started to hit on her like nobody’s business which wasn’t the usual for her, so she went to the bathroom and when she came out someone knocked her out and kidnapped her. She meets the guys and we find out she doesn’t remember much of her childhood and her mom disappeared when she was fourteen years old.
The guys tell her that they used to know her when she was young, that her mother suppressed her memories. They tell her that they are the alpha shifters from four different groups and she is a shifter as well. She is the last dragon shifter and they are her mates. Ren and her friend Kylie are first skeptical of the story but accept it pretty easily.
The story was good, this book centered around Ren trying to recover her memories and figure out how to shift into a dragon. However, I did find my mind wandering at times, then I missed parts and had to go back over a few parts. I don’t know if it was just my state of mind, possibly I have read too many similar books lately and am getting tired of it, or it might have been the story. So I am giving this book a lower rating.
This book was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Felicity Munroe and Joe Arden. I have listened to many books that Felicity has narrated, and I like her voice and her style. Joe Arden has a sexy gravelly voice which is very pleasant and works for just about any romantic Hero. So overall the narration was great, though I have to say I like it better when there is a different narrator for each of the main characters, as it was, it was sometimes hard to tell who was talking at any given time.
Third time is not the charm it seems. This is the third book I've read by the author, the first book of three different series and none of them grabbed me in anyway. They just seemed like boring repetition of the previous series. My fault though, I get suckered by the covers and then try to soldier on when they start to suck because I keep hoping they get better.
In this book nothing happens. Ren had been kept hidden for the last seven years. Before her mother disappeared she gave her a locket and told her to open it on her 21st birthday. When she finally does, she is thrust into a world she never knew and then she discovers she has mates. Now everything is complete in her life. Obviously she has to learn how to be a dragon, people are also chasing her with the intention of killing her so there's that. Her mates are all interchangeable even the ever present jackass that is a staple for every RH. I will be avoiding the next book because I can not see it getting any better.
I love a good shifter book. (I have read a lot) Dragon shifters are still pretty new to me but I find that I enjoy them and I really enjoyed this one.
This book is told in multiple points of view and I think that this is necessary.
I liked Ren, she is a strong female lead that has survived hard times and I liked the way that the story developed, from Ren wanting to celebrate her 21st Birthday, instead she is to discover that unbeknown to her she is a Dragon shifter, not only a Dragon shifter, but the last one. As a child Ren’s mother had taken her memories and in time she disappeared .
Ren doesn’t only have to master her shift she also has to mate with the alphas of the 4 shifter groups ( wolf, bear, jaguar, and eagle) to unite the shifters!
There is a threat to Ren, who as a Dragon shifter has enemies and they don’t intend to let the shifter survive.
This isn’t the only reverse harem book that I have read recently some do it well, others not so much! This one manages to fall on the right side between smut and steamy by including emotional as well as physical interactions and feelings.
This book evidently has more to follow. It will be interesting to see how the story develops.
I was given an arc of this book by the Publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I'm trash for fated mates. I won't even lie to you-- if someone says that characters are fated to be together, then I'm downloading the book and reading the whole series.
Ren doesn't know who she is and when faced for the first time with the world that her Mother ran from, she isn't sure who to believe or what to do. I appreciate that it wasn't a SUPER fast burn. Her mates have been waiting for her for sixteen years and you know they want to move things forward a little faster. They are respectful of her and her concerns. Which I loved.
It's interesting to see how the world building unfolds. How we get small pieces of the puzzle as we go along. I know it's a five book series, so I'm sure the majority of what's hanging in the air will be answered later... If I survive. HA! Can't wait to see the adventure that Ren and her guys go on. Also, this is a #whychoose, but I'm loving Nate and West...
I'm really tentative on this one, because it has a couple things I really don't like.
1 - Doormat heroine. She's fucking drugged and kidnapped, and is immediately upon waking panting after her kidnapper and telling these guys her life story. Not pissed. Not looking for an out. I get the blah-blah mate pull whatever, but I need a heroine that has a freaking iota of common sense and self-preservation. As it is, I do not for one second buy the backstory that she survived on the streets alone since age 14 - her character is innocent, naive, and in no way street-smart. She'd have been dead in a day. She doesn't hold on to her suspicion for longer than 10 seconds.
2 - Absolute shitbag male lead. I know some people like the douchebag alpha. I do not. We are not 5 years old. Boys don't get to pull our pigtails if they secretly like us, because they don't have the emotional bandwidth to process it. And frankly, having a FMC hurling herself at a guy who is a complete shit to her is a bad look. If she doesn't make West work for it, at some point, then I think she's worthless.
So I am really tentatively giving this 2.5 stars and cautiously moving forward. But it could get shitcanned at any moment, honestly.
It felt like only part of a book. I understand it is a series, but each book should at least feel like its own story, and this felt like only 1 part of a book. It left off before anything really happens to advance the story much, so I was disappointed in that. I'd recommend waiting until the author offers a box set of all books in the series and getting it on sale or something. I don't know that I want to bother continuing though after this.
This was amazing. I loved it. It was sexy and so much fun. I can't wait to read the next book. It's going to be a fun ride. An eagle, bear, wolf, jaguar and a dragon shifter oh my!
It's an easy read but there really isn't a lot to recommend it.
Good 1) Series arc was clearly established 2)
Neutral 1) Not a full story in of itself, more like the first part of a full story
Mixed 1) Female lead spent the majority of her time with her mind in her twat but did exhibit a backbone and agency 2) Love interests were poorly fleshed-out but what was there was distinctive and engaging
Mediocre 1) Outside of one, settings were conventional 2) Story takes place over only four days so a lot of it comes off as flimsy and rushed
Bad 1) Scant world-building 2) Plot? What plot? 3) Romantic relationships are manufactured by an intense lust-inducing magical draw 4) There is zero emotional relationship-building 5) The best friend was unrealistic and ridiculous 6) Things are said without any evidence or examples within the story (ie. 'The four guys here were sharing so much of themselves with me.' Seriously, you twit?!! They haven't even shared their LAST NAMES, let alone personal stories of their lives!!!) 7)
I'll give my full review after I've finished this series, but so far this first book has been entertaining. I like each of the characters and the dynamics between them. I like that it isn't a typical slowburn but also that it hasn't really rushed through the story. Like this first book only is a week in Ren's life. Can't wait to see what book 2 holds!
This could have been a really fun story but as soon as she's kidnapped, she's in lust with the dude and then the other dudes. There really isn't a romance here. There could have been something great, but there's no real journey or relationship development because of the instant attraction and horniness. Instead, the author uses one of the guys to be the grumpy, negative-motivated jerk who doesn't want her for no good reason. It's so blahhhh.
Was this a piece of art? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy it? Yep. Absolutely.
Probably would’ve never listened to the audiobook if it weren’t free on Audible, but I’m glad I did. Will definitely be continuing the series. Didn’t expect to enjoy reversed harem as much as I am, so that’s good. I’d take a little bit more world-building, tho!
The story is interesting enough, and it was included in my subscription. It's also quite short. Still, I had to speedboat up because I was a little bored after a while. so i won't be continuing the story. For those that love a good shifter/why choose romance, this is a good one, with 4 hot shifter male from different species and a powerful dragon woman. There's not enough spice for my liking, and there weren't enough battles either. But the various personalities and her BFF made it entertaining enough.
This is clearly the first book of what is meant to be a continuous story series. It does a really good job of introducing us to a world that couples old-world type paranormal tribes with modern concerns. There is definitely not resolution to the story by the end and I would warn against expecting some sort of solid ending going in to this book.
Ren is a woman who has learned not to trust just about anyone. The people she does let into her life have definitely earned their place. She was homeschooled and raised exclusively by her mother who suddenly disappears. Leaving her to fend for herself, Ren is forced to skirt the law to make money. She's especially geared towards being a thief, though, because she has strange sneaking abilities. Couple that with her love of getting air jumping off ledges and she's a unique type of girl. While celebrating her birthday she suddenly finds herself kidnapped and thrown into a world where shifters are real and Ren is attracted to a bunch of men she just met.
She's not only exposed to shifters, but apparently she is a dragon shifter herself. Nobody's sure why she can't shift, but she is the only person left alive who can unit the shifter races. So - what else can get thrown on her shoulders? Well there's this sudden polyamorous coupling, finding her mom, juggling a "normal" friendship she's determined to hang on to, and running from killer vampires. Oh, and the fated mate drama just keeps climbing. I almost feel like this book ends suddenly, having only learned a little bit about Ren's history, eagerly on the way to find out what happened to her mom.
Honestly, I was skeptical. I've heard of Eva Chase for a while and found a whole bundle of the entire series on audible so why not? I was surprised by how fun and addictive this is. There's actually not much romance but more focus on Ren's past, and her learning about her being a dragon shifter which is fun. She's not an exact damsel in distress, she's loyal to those close to her and is willing to try and learn to get stronger to find her missing mother. I like that it didn't take her forever to decide that she will join the guys and accept her place as basically shifter royalty. I love her bestie Kylie too.
The dynamic between her and the 4 guys is good. I already know I will like West and Marco the most. Marco is like the lighthearted mood maker, while West is the wary cold and distant character (he's super prickly on the outside and probably takes a couple of books until he warms up to her, but for me, he's the best one). To be honest, the other two Nate and Aaron are alright. They have a few standout moments here and there but I don't really care much for them so far.
Overall, it was action-packed, quick-paced and shocked me with the writing and plot. Usually, I would cringe trying to read a lot of paranormal romance heroines but thankfully this isn't one of them
This book was meh. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I got bored a couple of times and I don't know why, but it feels super rushed and at the same time like nothing's happening. It's weird.
The characters were ok too. Kylie is too much of a cliché to be that entertaining, Ren's alright and the guys are just meh. Marco's kind of playful, Nate's protective and I love him for it (but, otherwise, he's pretty forgettable) and Aaron could be cool but he's just bland, like a beautifully cooked dish that has no salt and no flavor.
West, on the other hand. I fucking hate West. I understand being distrustful or careful but that doesn't excuse being an asshole. I know that if I was in Ren's situation not only I would be way more scared and way more whiny about everything, I would 100% hate his guts. And the fact that Ren's so understanding doesn't sit right with me either (and having her hate him could lead to a delicious enemies to lovers dynamic, so missed opportunity there) but oh, well.
Not going to lie, I was rolling my eyes. First, Ren gets kidnapped and taken to the manor, but doesn't really freak out. Second, there was no reason for the friend to come with Ren and the guys on the "adventure" (even though it was barely the beginning of the adventure). The friend was so pointless and I was annoyed. She's not a shifter and she doesn't have a prominent roll. Maybe it was for the main characters girl best friend but it felt annoying in this one. Anyways, I didn't really like any of the guys except for the panther and maybe the eagle. The bear was protective and the wolf was so combative with Ren. Like West (wolf) had the most interaction with Ren and they argue. It just got old real soon. I just think that Ren was a stupid character. There I said it. In my opinion, she was a flat character and the plot was flat as well. Overall, sorry, not going to continue however, it was a fast read which is surprising with how much I didn't like about it.
Books like this are such a guilty pleasure of mine!
Sometimes I don’t want to read something that will make me think and try to remember all the intricacies of a story line. This is so simple and easy to read and I vibed the whole time hehe.
Whilst not my preferred genre I do enjoy the occasionally RH if it is done well and this one was. Where I struggle with RH is when the girl is just not special or awesome enough for me to buy that not only would a whole host of guys fall for but she is so amazing they are willing to share her. Then there is the telling they all love her and vice versa rather than the showing as there is just no enough time in the story to develop meaningful relationships with more than one guy. This one suffers from none of that. The whole shifter structure/culture set up for her to have multiple mates meant that I could accept their willingness to share. Then whilst she is drawn to all of them she is buildng distinct (rather than interchangeable) relationships with each and some are progressing faster than others which is why it works.
I'm not a huge fan of instant love, but it's a thing in almost every paranormal book so I try to overlook it. But that was my only complaint, this was a great read, tons of action, a crazy adventurous ride, one strong willed woman, and four fabulous shifter men. I loved Ren, she is a very strong and conflicted character with so much heart, that shifts into the only remaining dragon known. Eva Chase sucked me into this story from the very start, and I could not put it down! I want more West in my life....yum, can't wait to start book two!
This book was slow going and a treasure hunt. We have some more info than we started with, but not enough to keep me interested.
Her mom went missing seven years ago, told her not to open her locket until her 21st birthday. And she opens it and gets accidentally kidnapped by one of her mates assistants.
The story is pretty drab, but the mates make me interested in the story. It’s pretty basic though with mild bread crumbs of what happened to her mom.
The place it ended wasn’t that great. It was a cliff hanger, and didn’t tie anything up. I don’t like when books do this.
