Title/Author: Summer Knight by Jim Butcher
Series: The Dresden Files #4
Date Read: 2/15/2022
Shelf: Alternate Reality
Pages: 446
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review: Wizard Harry Dresden is manipulated by the Winter Queen of Faerie to find who murdered the Summer Knight. With the murder against the Summer court, Queen Mab is implicated and Harry is more or less forced to clear her name. Wizard politics, Faerie politics, fae court imbalance, possible fae war... it's up to Harry to fix it to gain the fae support for the Wizard council. The good: Liked Murphy, Toot Toot and his pizza loving pixies. Lots of action and creatures to battle. I listened to this in audio and it's great having Spike (James Marsden) read to me! :) The not so good: Everyone loves Harry and I'm just not there yet. I have tried to get onboard with this series and 4th book in and still not feeling it. He's always over his head, his humor is corny and he comes off as incompetant and disheveled most times. I just want him to man up a bit and be more heroic, not so pathetic. He's got magical powers! He needs to pull up his big boy wizard pants and act like a boss!! He really needs to watch Witcher and Henry Cavill's Geralt...

Review:
I wasn't sure how much I would like this one. While Psyche was in the first book a little bit Eros was not. So there wasn't a previous introduction that made me interested in these characters. However, by the end of the book I think I like Psyche more than Persephone. I feel like she handled the situations she was thrown in a little bit better. The only reason this one didn't get a higher rating is that I don't feel like the stakes were high enough, or that the climax and resolution were as great as I wanted them to be. I am for sure looking forward to the next book in the series.

You are so right! I hope there is an improvement in the phone app soon. Everything I have to do must be on the computer. It takes long enough there. I cant imagine with a phone

Title/Author: Big Jack by J.D. Robb
Series: In Death #17.5
Date Read: 2/18/2022
Shelf: Favorite Couples
Pages: 309
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Visiting one of my all time favorite couples Eve and Roarke in NYC 2059. This series never disappoints. Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her team catch a murder of a young lady house sitting for her friend, an author that wrote about a 50 year old diamond heist with ties to her family. The "entitled" psycho is trying to find the missing gems and whacking anyone that gets in his path. The good: Peabody was a little extra extra in this edition. Love when she overshares and pushes Eve's buttons. The team moved quickly and I am several books ahead in the series, so it was nice to jump back in the past a little. The not so good: Roarke was pushed to the side of the story and felt like Eve just used him as another tool to solve this mystery, I like him more as an equal sidekick. Missed Summerset, Dr Mira, and the other regulars in this edition. I somehow overlooked this one thinking it was just a novella. Listened to this in audio, always good and just seems to go too fast. Loved binging this series over the past two years but now that I'm all caught up, I have 7 months until the next release. ~sigh~

I think I can see why this has a favorite couple, but I don't know if I agree with the sentiment based solely on this book. That doesn't mean I didn't really love this though! I was as huge fan of Kerri Maniscalco's other series, and I knew I would probably enjoy this one too. There was a lot of hype, and I feel like it lives up to it. I honestly went into this blind, and I like it that way. I didn't really have expectations except for that others really seemed to enjoy it. I just recently got the second book from the library so I'm hoping it'll fit for the next shelf.

Nina and Max met as result of a scheduling conflict. Nina rented a cabin in the mountains while Max was there and both intended to stay. For the most part I enjoyed this book. There were a few nuisances I found distracting. Max was a little too macho and domineering. Nina was neurotic and a push over. There were enough side stories going on to keep my attention. I may decide to continue this series

Narrowed it to these: The Name of the Wind (magic x1042); Kill the Queen (magic x205); Firelight (magic x143); or An Artificial Night (magic x138)... Taking for a spin and will post my final pick when something grabs me. Happy Reading!!

I haven't read any of these!

I haven't read anything by Sarah J Maas yet. Is she primarily a YA writer, or is this series more adult?

She has a YA series, that sort of gets more Adult near the end. [book:Throne of Glass is the first of that series. The other series A Court of Thorns and Roses is advertised as YA but it's definitely Adult, and House of Earth and Blood is also very Adult.

Title/Author: Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep
Series: Crown of Shards #1
Date Read: 2/27/2022
Shelf: Magic
Pages: 480
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is the first book in the Crown of Shards series. Lady Everleigh "Evie" Blair, is an orphan royal that is 17th in line for the Bellona throne. After a pretty bloody royal gathering, she becomes second in line to her traitorous cousin Vasilia, who killed her own mother, the queen. Evie reinvents herself by hiding with a gladiator troupe, becoming a skilled warrior as she plots revenge for her family. The good: Entertaining storyline and world building of magical powers, royal families, political manipulation, and lots of moving pieces. The hint at romance is very underlying. Not so good: Story drug a little in the beginning and took awhile to get rolling. Several story elements reminiscent of her Gin Blanco series, the main character has a perfect early childhood until parents are killed and becomes a tortured soul. Then despite being a royal, a gladiator, she cooks and feeds people. Listened in audio, same narrator as her Gin Blanco series. Already jumped on the next one, glad the trilogy is complete.

Review:
Characters: too many and difficult determining how there were related; Plot: confusing and difficult to follow; Ending: I was glad to get there. I love some of Maggie Stiefvater’s series. I haven’t read other books in this series. I couldn’t get into this book. I thought I would read it and if I liked it would start at the beginning of the series. I do this often. I check out what ever is available at the library and then start at the beginning if it is good. I couldn’t keep up with the characters, I couldn’t figure out what was going on at all. Maybe it was my ADD, maybe it just doesn’t work without the books that come before. I just don’t know what the problem was. Blue was an interesting character though I didn’t quite understand the hooves. As I moved more toward the end of the story It became clear that someone was going to turn into a tree??? What! Who wants to be a tree? Vampires, shapeshifters, coyotes, werewolves ok but trees? I do not know if I will come back to this series. Doubtful at this time.

Review:
I don't want to give too much away for this as it is a sequel. But holy Gods. I wouldn't even know where to begin. To keep it spoiler free, the beginning was a bit slow for me. I am not sure how I feel about some pairings in this book and I'm still holding out hope some of this will change. However, twists/turns, and the way this whole thing unfolded was amazing. The ending! I am at a loss for words. It's going to be a long hard wait for the next book.
