I currently live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky so I'm in the Eastern time zone. I haven't played a round of Bingo since summer 2013. though I've lurked on and off ever since. I rather not take on the role of captain this round. so, it like the job's yours Shan ~A~.

Review: There was a small similarity between this story and another in the series, but the differences was enough for me not to be too concerned about that.
I absolutely loved both Canto and Payal. They both were considered less than by their fathers and sent to a place as children that no one, especially a child, should have to endure. Luckily for Canto he is a Mercant and once they found him he was able to thrive.
Payal, was accepted back into her family, but that wasn't necessarily a good thing. She had to learn to adapt to being in that household to survive, which means that she had to hide in silence to control her emotions.
The took care of each other as children, but never knew the other's name, so once they find one another again it takes effort for Payal to open herself to Canto because of everything she's been through.
Canto was patient and that paid off.
They had other pressing things to contend with also. They are both anchors for the psy net and they have their work cut out for them to figure out how to keep the psy net alive.
The thing I love most about the stories that Nalini Singh writes, especially this series, is the world building and the connection that the characters have to everyone that came before. It would really amazing if their was something similar to a family tree to show how all the characters are connected.
Our primary couple gets their "happy ending" but this story is far from over.

Nat is a lone werewolf. She was cast out of her pack. Now she sells antiques and (hoards) collects all kinds of Christmas/holiday decorations. She also has OCD. Complications arise when Thorn, her ex, arrives back in town.
I did like that Nat's OCD wasn't played for laughs and it was part of who she was. I didn't like how she was treated by her former pack, nor did I like how hung up she still was on Thorn. He had so much power over her even when he wasn't around and I hated that. I did think the werewolf turf war could have been better explained (my main issue is it was glossed over why Nat was a central target). The world was interesting (it's not just werewolves, but all kinds of supernatural beings).
Nat was an okay character; I felt she was judgmental at time and could have been more supportive of her friends. I hated Thorn. To really like a book (and want to continue to read the series) I have to like the love interest too or at least read something redeeming. Pass on the next.

If you are anything like me, your reading for multiple challenges and trying to make the books fit them all as much as possible.
I'm tracking our completions in message 14 and putting the link to the called shelves in message 9.

The Tecran kidnapped Rose. She is held for 3 months and during this time she befriends Sazo. Sazo, it turns out, is a highly capable AI and he finds a way to both free himself (with Rose's help) and rescue her. He deliberately jumps them to Grih airspace because the Grih are most like humans. Dav is the captain of the exploration ship that comes across the Tecran Class 5 battleship. The Class 5's are highly secretive, rare, and prized. It also turns out that AI's have been banned for 200+ years due to fatalities that happened at that time.
This was very good. Sazo was an interesting character and I liked his interactions with Rose. He grew and learned about empathy and the variables that come with life. This was very well crafted with the various alien races. There are plenty of things going on "behind the scenes." This was a nice, believable love story too with Rose and Dav. I think my only compliant is no "I love yous" were shared, but oh well! Roses growth and confidence was wonderful too.
Not sure if those characters will show up in the next books or not. Be interesting to see what happens with Bain.
And I have to say a thank you to SOS Bookshelf Bingo, for me reading this. I had this buried on my Kindle and who knows when I would have read it?

Review: The B Team are back!!!
This book is mainly about Baka. I loved getting a chance to go on the journey of his life. I've been intrigued by him from the beginning. However, I did feel that there wasn't enough emphasis on the romance between him and Heaven, since she spent the majority of her time with treating him like crap. But...she came through when it counted, so she was forgiven.
A side story to all things Baka was Elora and Ram dealing with Elora's pregnancy, but not only that. Elora has found wolves in the woods near their home and she goes about befriending them, without alerting Ram, because he is very overprotective of her since she's been pregnant. Turns out it's with good reason.
And lastly Storm and Litha, with Storm finding out something about himself from Deliverance (Litha's father) that he didn't know.
All of this converging together quite nicely to include the rest of the members of the B Team, while they have to come to the rescue of their friends and teammates. No real retirement for the ones who were supposedly out of the game.
I love that they always have one another's backs no matter what.

The Darkest Promise by Gena Showalter
From SOS Bookshelf
finished 2/4 ★★★

The Darkest Promise is book book 13 in the Lords of the Underworld series and it's unique because Cameo, keeper of Misery, is the only female "Lord". I listen to this series for its predictable stories. and I would consider it a "guilty pleasure.

Review: This story is amazing. Of course I saw the movie adaptation years ago and that was amazing, but experiencing ever nuance of this story just added an extra layer.
I didn't realize how thought provoking it would be. Would Clare had fallen in love with Henry if he hadn't been visiting her when she was an impressionable child? Was it actually fate? I kept thinking that it would have felt more like fate if Henry had never mentioned to her at, any time during their exchanges, that he actually knew her.
I also didn't realize how much foreshadowing their was. Especially when Henry says at one point, that if something happened to his feet he may as well be dead. I gasped when I got to that, because of course I know what happens in the future without reading it due to the movie.
Is everything in the book the same as the movie, of course not it never is, but things stayed close enough.
Regardless, of my thoughts about Clare and Henry being fated, I was so engrossed in their love story and Henry's traveling.
The only reason this was 4.5 for me was because I wanted there to be an explanation for how Henry ended up with the genetics to have this "affliction." What was the mutation since neither of his parents had it?

Thanks for the update!

Christina, how are things going with your Sci-fi book?"
I finished it 10 Feb. and I finished Etched in bone tonight. Posting reviews take me longer because in 2013 I had a stroke and I never regained full use of my left arm/hand. I'm right handed so writing out a review isn't a problem. transcribing it by hunt and peck is slow and frustrating because I think faster then I type. I forget to space between words, etc.

Sorry to hear that, Christina. Thank you for sharing that information with us. You totally didn't have to do that.

Honor's Knight by Rachel Bach February 10, 2022 ★★★★★

It's been so long since I read the first book, that I couldn't recall anything about it. Which turned out to be okay and I was still able to enjoy this one very much. Deviana Morris starts off with a large gap in her memory. She can't recall the cook's name even after it's mentioned and the mere sight of the man makes her physically ill. Devi can also see floating blobs no one else can. The ship's doctor can't figure out what's wrong with her. Eventually her memories are restored, and things start to fall into place and Devi needs to find a way to avoid being turned into a lab rat or a weapon, and still be able to help save millions of innocent lives

Loved the prologue (view spoiler)
Dina's Inn (Gertrude Hunt) needs guests to survive (and money). When George approaches her for help in holding a summit to broker peace between 3 warring groups on a distant planet, she says yes because the Inn has been short on guests and finances.
This was fun to read. The Inn is a living thing and interacts with Dina and her guests as needed. If you've read "The Edge" series, Gaston, George, Jack, and Sophie appear in this one. All 3 have seen and done things. George is now an Arbitrator (think planetary negotiator). This universe has several different types of aliens (you've got the vampires (Holy Anocracy), the Merchants (bipedal foxes), and Otrokar (the Horde), etc) several different realms/planets (?).
Dina works her magic and the result is a positive one. She also reconnects with Sean (the love interest) who needed to do something(s) to figure things out.
