Oh Kristie, what a catalogue of catastrophes! The worst of course being not able to spend Christmas with your mum 🥺 I hope you can find dinner somewhere and that one day you can look back on this and laugh. *Hugs*

Hope you manage to find some food and catch up with some people before your drive tomorrow.

For those who don't, hope you have a relaxing and restful day :D

"Today is brought to you by the letters R and F..."

wow. it keeps piling on. hopefully, you managed --or will-- to get a bit of fun between the crazyness.

Sandra, it really does! It's like when you're watching a movie and think oh come on that much stuff never goes wrong like that at once. But, in this case it has. It has just been such a strange holiday.
Fortunately, we are both able to move past stuff pretty quickly so we're doing ok. Just masked up and popped by mom's house to drop off and pick up gifts. I felt really bad that we couldn't stay; I hate leaving her alone on Christmas, but she is going to get some rest and will hopefully feel better quickly. We are now trying to figure out something for dinner.
Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates! I hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Merry Christmas to everyone! The little bit of plans we've had, felt into the water.

@Kirsty: did you arrive safely home?

Between covid and respiratory infections it seems every second I talk to here is ill. The government have set up a national task force to prevent our hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. Why does that all sound so familiar? *groan*

I’m in the Georgia mountains but went to Nashville for Christmas to see my daughter. Got there just in time for the snow. Left yesterday to get back to Georgia and the snow followed us. Will warm up today and the snow will be a memory in time for us to head home to Florida later this week.
Audiobooks are fantastic for a road trip. I try to pick one that will entertain my h too as it’s the only time he listens to books. Yesterday we finished A Man called Ove.

I also spent a week sick before Christmas. I tested negative, so it was not COVID, but I felt very badly. I am still coughing a little. I think it was just a bad cold, since the fever wasn't that high, but I really felt miserable.

Saar - I hope your son is feeling better and your sister's treatments are going well.
Sandra - I'm glad you're feeling better, but sorry that you were sick for Christmas. That's awful. My mom was sick for Christmas. I felt so bad that we went all that way and had to cancel plans with her.

Glad you made it home okay, Kristie. After the past week, I was dreading a flat tyre or some such thing. But home safe :D

Weather is a little better today, so I plan to go to the movies with my kids (and my nephew, who is visiting).
According to the forecast we will be above freezing tomorrow for the first time in many days. Not for long, though, but fingers crossed.

We were at Christmas dinner with my family, including my brother who is Aus/American with family all through Michigan and his wife who is also Aus/American with family all through NY. And all of us, including them, were saying the same thing. It is so outside our comprehension. You guys are in awe of us and spiders or snakes, but that is NOTHING to these temps.
You guys are the tough nuts in North America.

It has been really cold where we have been as well, but the temperature seems to be all over the place. We had a high of 19ºF (-7.2ºC) the day our electricity was out. Our extended forecast has temps potentially getting as high as 69ºF (20.6ºC) next week. I am so glad to see the temps increasing. I am definitely not a cold weather person.

The Latitude of us in Canberra, is the same as Dallas. For him in Kansas City, it's the same as being in the middle of Bass Strait which is the body of water between Melbourne and Tasmania. Perfectly in fact, Kansas City is the same as King Island which is in the strait.
Where Shirley lives in Brisbane, is the same as San Antonio.

Drove up close to Montreal on the 25th and got a mix of everything on my drive but nothing really bad.

This weekend we will have temperatures we normally have in the autumn season. This causes a lot of damage to animals, like the hedgehog. It's worse for them if they are allready asleep, then wake up and then the temps are dropping.

It's the first time I have it. Secretly I had been thinking I might be immune and would be a very interesting medical case, but no such luck ;-)

It..."
I hope it is a mild case and you get back on your feet quickly. Around here, I am starting to feel like I am the only one that never got it. Or maybe I did and was one of the asymptomatic.

Lol Margo! Of all the times it could have happened it's right in the middle of a 2-week holiday. Worst timing ever ;-)

We went to a party tonight, and it was the furthest we have walked since we have had Covid (25 mins with hills). It was a thing.

I'm now starting to work on my lasagna for tonight, so I won't be around much today. I hope you have all a wonderful start of the new year, and that you get to spend time with the people who means the most to you, or at least some of them.

At everyone: merry everything and a happy always :)

I haven't had it yet either and when I was admitted to the hospital, it was to a ward that was on active covid outbreak, and my roommate had it. Most of my family and friends have had it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
