I believe in you, Peggy. EAT ALL THE HUMMUS! And you've just reminded me I have a container full of Toum in the fridge which is now calling my name...

I'm really interested though, as I can understand why don't have them nearby, but what do you have instead? I always find it fascinating how different parts of the world have different restaurants and specialty grocers.

Lebanese/Turkish, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese restaurants are the staples here in my city.

message 1003: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I do eat hummus almost daily, but supermarket variety, lol!

For delivery/take away we have Chinese and Turkish mostly, with Turkish being limited to stuff like kebab, shawarma, and often for some reason pizzas as well. Japanese has become quite common too in the last few years. There's an awesome ramen place which I did discover soon after it opened ;-)

We used to have Thai and Vietnamese, but no longer unfortunately. And we have a nice Mexican, but that's only for eating there. And similarly Greek and Italian (although Greek restaurants here mostly seem to serve Crete Platters and Athens platters and so on, which is all basically just heaps of meat. Nothing compared to the real Greek cuisine..).

This is just my medium-sized city though, bigger cities have more options, including Lebanese and Indian.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Janice, I never found a way to switch back, but after months it just switched by itself. Who knows.

message 1007: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think I'm the only one who got used to it really quickly, lol! It's not necessarily better but it doesn't bother me either. Have to admit though that I've used the website very little lately and have been doing most things on the app. Everything's better compared to the app ;-)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I dislike that it hides your review. Used to be, you'd see that up front and center. Now you have to click on "Write a Review". I have things written in Private Notes that I reference a lot.

It's still there, just harder to get to.

I can see my review of a book on the main book page without having to do anything. Or do you mean when you're still reading the book and haven't marked it as read? I don't use the review-bit while I'm reading so that doesn't bother me, but I understand that it's annoying when you do.

I just looked at one I finished, and yes, my review shows after scrolling down a bit. It must just be those on the wishlist shelve sand currently reading shelves.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm in London this weekend. We went to the Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighter drummer who passed away unexpectedly in March) tribute concert in Wembley. Wow, what an incredible experience that was! Not going to forget it anytime soon.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Awesome, Peggy! I saw bits of it in social media and it looked impressive. It was touching seeing his son playing one song with the band.

message 1017: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yeah, that was a beautiful moment! It was very impressive, especially their own set. Dave crying when he started the first song.. they always give 150% when playing and they played songs that have a lot of emotion in them anyway, but it was like they really poured all their anger and sadness in it, really paying tribute. I've seen many great concerts but this was very special.

message 1018: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments And being in that crowd of 80.000 people all there for the same reason was incredible too.

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments @Peggy: I've heard it was so impressive. I think it must give an enormous feeling of connection.

message 1022: by [deleted user] (new)

Peggy! So jealous! We tried for ages to get tickets - there were six of us trying all at the same time. In the end, we just had a party at mine and watch live. Such an excellent tribute. So glad you were able to attend and had a wonderful time :-)

message 1023: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments Anne, that's a great alternative and you got to feeling that you were there too in a way.

message 1024: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It sure did Saar!

@Anne: sounds like you made the best of it and gathering with a group of people sounds great too! We were super lucky to get those tickets..

Will you watch the LA tribute too?

message 1026: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I've ordered my ticket for Rammstein for next year. I've got the chance to pre - order it with the fan community, but there was only 1 sort of ticket (stand ticket) available, so I've ordered it and after payment and logging in again after an hour I see that there are now special tickets available to stand in the golden circle. A bit dissapointed, but it's allready a lot of money. It's a legaly ticket agency where the band works with, but I've heard some complaints about it, so I hope I'll get my tickets.

I've order a couple of weeks ago school uniforms for Sander on the website of Marcs & Spencer. Last week I've got my order, but it was wrong for half of it: I didn't received 2 sweaters, but got shoes and socks instead. The help desk was wonderful. They'll send the sweaters for free and because the postage costs to return the shoes and socks from Belgium to the UK would be too high, they asked me to donate it to a good cause.

message 1027: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Awesome that you go to Rammstein Saar! A bit strange that the other tickets weren't available at first, but to be honest, I'd rather stand a bit more to the back during a Rammstein concert ;-)

message 1028: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments It will be my 4th time next year :D Well, I stood in front 2 times and that was just awesome. The other time it was in a stadion (the same as next year), but I got a seated place and that wasn't so good. The acoustic, because of the concrete walls, were also not great. But, hey, I'm happy :D

message 1029: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yeah, I like to be in a crowd for the overall feeling (although I never liked when it gets too wild), but I don't like crowds anymore so I prefer the side. We had seats at Wembley and I like that you have a bit of room for yourself (and being able to sit down every now and then during a 6 hour concert was great too!) but it does feel a bit more passive, especially if it's still light outside.

message 1030: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I can imagine that you need a seat if it's a concert for 6 hours. I don't like crowds also, but with Rammstein, well, I do an effort, although I avoid moshpits.

message 1031: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Yahoo, I won the zucchini weigh-in this evening with a whomping 8 lb, 1.1 oz, there had to be an upside to losing track of a couple of them lol

message 1032: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's 3.7 kilos!!!!!!! No wonder you won, lol!

Jenn | 3029 comments And now Sean just left camping, which leaves my weekend wide open for canning Mock-Apple Pie Filling (AKA Zucchini Pie), I might need more jars . . . ? Lol

message 1037: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Sounds like it's zucchini chocolate cake time!! That is an impressive zucchini, Jenn. Not surprised you won!

message 1039: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, Fahrenheit by now I can kinda guess (or at least know what is really hot), but lb and oz makes zero sense to me and I really wanted to know this ;-)

message 1040: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments I can do height, as people here still talk about being 6 foot or the like. The rest of the imperial system is a weird sort of alchemy.

message 1041: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh yes, height, I know 5ft 5 inches is something average so I can make educated guesses from there. Same way I know 80F to over 100F is hot weather. But 8lbs without the zucchini context could have been anything between 1 and 100 kilos!

I know at her age it is not surprising, but it is still sad. I really liked her.

message 1044: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I have the same sentiments Sandra. She was queen all my life, and it seemed like she would be a permanent fixture.

Exactly.

message 1046: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I just saw that, and will admit it choked me up a little 😢 I’m not a rabid royal follower, but I liked her, and she is the only queen that I have ever known.

message 1047: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments She was the same age as my mother. It's been weird to see announcements posted from "King Charles". That is going to take a bit of getting used to.

message 1048: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19130 comments Janice wrote: "She was the same age as my mother. It's been weird to see announcements posted from "King Charles". That is going to take a bit of getting used to."

Yes, it is. As you said above, our entire lives it's been Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. King Charles will take a while to get used to. Then, we may have to adjust to King William some day too. It's so strange to think of the monarchy changing hands after all this time.

message 1049: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments Yes, it's not surprising at her age, but she managed to be 70 years on the throne. That's a big achievement. I agree that it will be weird to read/hear about King Charles.

message 1050: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments It will take some getting to. The National anthem will be another thing to change, and then the stamps, coins, bank notes......

She was so dignified in the face of a changing world. It will be hard for Charles to live up to her.
