Sarah | 395 comments Here's my superlative-laden review of Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. While it's not a mystery-thriller in the traditional sense, it does sit broadly within the genre. This book wasn't an easy read at times, but I found it extraordinarily evocative.

PattyMacDotComma | 820 comments I enjoyed Viet Thanh Nguyen's 2016 Pulitzer Prize winner, The Sympathizer, but the political and philosophical arguments got the better of me in his follow-up, The Committed. He's an excellent, smart writer - and funny (a Chinese guy called Le Cao Boi wishes he were American).

Carolyn | 2101 comments I enjoyed this cosy type mystery with interesting characters, The Shadow of Memory (Kate Hamilton Mysteries, #4) by Connie Berry The Shadow of Memory by Connie Berry. However, although it worked well as a stand alone, it is fourth in the series so now I really want to read the first three.
