I had hoped to enjoy The Lullaby Man by Aussie author Anni Taylor more than the first in the series. It's set in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, a beautiful place. The author has lots of fans, so this might be just me.
3★ My review
No matter to which era or genre Kate Atkinson applies her considerable literary talents, she never disappoints. Shrines of Gaiety is enthralling and entertaining. 5 big ★s and apologies for the length of review.

Despite some iffy pronunciation, Dorje Swallow's narration of the seventh book of Garry Disher's Wyatt series is quite enjoyable. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I don’t usually read fantasy but this one was a goodie.
The Final Strife by United Arab Emirates author Saara El-Arifi* 2 Sep 2022 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ my review
I absolutely loved
The Quiz Masters: Inside the World of Trivia, Obsession and Million Dollar Prizes by Brydon Coverdale.Definitely recommend if you have ever enjoyed trivia or any of our Australian game shows over the years.
My review is here.
I didn't go to school in Australia and so wasn't forced into reading David Malouf's Fly Away Peter
. Which is definitely for the best because it's such a moving and important work and I'm glad it was a book I could choose to read and not be forced to by a curriculum.

When the Ground Is Hard. This was a great read by Aussie author Malla Nunn who grew up in Eswatini (Swaziland). This was a great recommendation by Caroline in response to my request for diverse Aussie authors. This is my review.
Banana Heart Summer. Another great read by an Aussie author Merlinda Bobis who was born and raised in the Philippines. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Here is my review
I'm late to the party with Less by Andrew Sean Greer, but with the sequel, Less Is Lost on the horizon, I thought I'd better get reading. Enjoyable and entertaining, 5★s

I didn't love the first in the first book in C.V. Chauhan's Inspector Sharma Thrillers series, The Dance of Death: A gritty urban police procedural, packed full of suspense but I'm willing to give the sequel a go, if just for the parrot.3.5★s

The Partisan has everything: hot war, cold war, spies, assassins, history, and real people who fight, love, and care. It's hard to believe it's Patrick Worrall's debut novel. A great story about a dark time in Europe.
5★ My review
Kathryn Hore's feminist western 'The Stranger' is the showdown we've all been waiting for. Absolutely amazing!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Catching up with my reviews,
The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley missed its mark with me. 3.5★https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm also trying to catch up on a significant backlog of reviews...Here are my thoughts on On Fairness, ACTU Secretary Sally McManus's powerful non-fiction novella (100pp) exploring the effects of neoliberalism and the importance of standing up for workers' rights and a fairer society. A thought-provoking read.

Here's my review of Daughters of Eve by Adelaide-based author Nina D. Campbell. It's a gritty and engrossing crime-thriller debut.

Here's my review of British-Aussie author Allie Reynolds's compulsively readable surfing thriller, The Bay.

The Thread Collectors by Shaunna J. Edwards and Alyson Richman.
A historical fiction set around the American Civil War and telling the story from the perspectives of Black and Jewish characters. This is an #OwnVoices work, and well worth the read.
